I have been to taste of texas only once but during my visit, I was well impressed by their amazing steak and service. I am originally from New York and it was wonderful to try delicious food from Texas. The only con is the price but it is well worth it! I recommend taking your family for a nice dinner here!
The salad bar has been revamped but still lacks much. It offers mostly the basics while charging almost $10.00 for it. The steaks are great, the breads are great, the deserts are great and the service is great. I've been a fan for at least a dz yrs going there several times a yr. Hope to see it continue to prosper. I don't understand the negative reviews. I can only believe it must be for the o...
This locally owned restaurant has been a favorite in my native Houstonian family for over a decade. We always go there for special occasions (birthdays, graduation, etc.). Sure there are no reservations, so you have to wait, but they have a huge comfortable waiting area with a bar, popcorn to snack on, and plenty of TV's to watch, if you're not the type to converse with your party. The price...
The place is a tourist trap, plain and simply put. The steaks don't come near Pappas Brothers, Flemings, Capital Grill and etc. The salad bar is the only redeeming value. It's amazing the place does so well, except for the fact it plays off the TEXAS motif. Don't waste your time or money, you can get the same quality at Salt Grass for half the price. YES, I said Salt Grass, that Fertittatiz...
This place is too expensive in light of the quality of food. This place is oddly popular, making the no-reservations policy tremendously oppressive. And it's very "suburban" in the worst ways.
This is the best restaurant that we have been to in Texas and the California Bay area. Yes, it will be a little more expensive, but it is of the highest Quality. It is hard to cook an almost 2 inch ribeye perfectly and they did two for us. The crew was great and quick to serve. I judge a restaurant's cleanliness by how clean their restrooms are. TTR was one of the best in the cleanliness, w...
If I were rating the food, I would give it 4 stars; however, my latest experience was so bad that Taste of Texas has lost a lifetime customer.
Website says "family-friendly," but it is NOT. If small children are a problem, this term should not be used. Apparently loud obnoxious salesmen are not a problem, because the table next to us carried on as much as they wanted.
Great place to take out of towners to show them some Texas history as well as an enjoyable dining experience. Although the food is very good, I've found the steak, at times, to lack flavoring that I've noticed at other higher end restaurants. Overall a great place to dine. Great service.
The angus steaks were cooked great!! I ordered the 16oz. ribeye with Texas Au Gratin Potatoes and green beans. Quality Food and huge quantity. They also have an awesome salad bar, very fresh. I visited Houston Saturday and ate there. I returned Sunday before I left town. Manager and staff were very welcoming and made you feel at home. The service and food was Top Shelf both days...World Class St...
Taste of Texas is one of our favorite eating establishments in Houston PERIOD! We love the salad bar and the food is always perfect. The staff is amazing. The prices are steep, but we go prepared. We love to give TOT gift cards during the holidays too.
Simple and to the point....a group of us went to celebrate my Nephew's Birthday...it was very early 5:30.pm...They told us we would be on 2 different tables...no problem....What they did not tell us the Tables would be far away from each other....!!! We left....walked over to Papasitos...we were seated in about 20 min....Had a GREAT time.
I will never return to Taste of Texas....
Your restaurant is the best. My family and I celebrate B-days and anniversaries at your restaurant. Every Time I mean Every Time we are satisfied w/the food and service.Thank You for providing such a service.
Four of us went to Taste of Texas as a treat to celebrate my raise. We chose Taste of Texas for the quality of food we remembered from a previous visit. Last night, 1/10/09, was not a treat. There was a male employee at the front door, I'm not sure if he was a host or a manager, but he dampened what could have been a nice evening. We waited for a table without complaint for an hour and then saw t...
i made reservations there for my mothers birthday on the 29th of december a monday! There was absoultly no parking what so ever! the whole parking lot was full and had a lines of cars following the others around the parking lot in circles!!! with 3 cars coming to the party it was impossible so i found one parking spot in a parking lot behind the restraunt to get in a hear that they have no reserv...
Taste of Texas is below average based on the available steakhouses in Houston. Their strongest suit is the decor and overpriced wine list which carries some very nice labels, but at a premium price. Steaks are not on the level of Capital Grill, Pappas, Morton's, Ruth's, and etc. They rank somewhere between those mentioned and the Texas Land and Cattle, and Saltgrass quality. It is a great pla...
I am not much of a complainer but this is by far the worse Steakhouse.
To make this review short and strait to the point; I went to Taste Of Texas Monday night with friends, and waited for 1 1/2hrs to get a table. When I ordered the Cowboy Steak (24oz Ribeye bone in) med-rare it came out med-well. For a $40 steak I expected great steak. I complained, and the second time around it came out RARE...
Taste of Texas is most definitely the best steakhouse I have ever been to! My husband's company Christmas dinner was held there this past Saturday. As soon as I heard where the dinner was to be held, I looked the restaurant up to read the reviews. There were several mixed reviews so I wasn't expecting to be totally wowed. It took a while for us to be seated (about an hour and a half), since they ...
Yes, the food is great, the decor is very pleasing. However, DO NOT complain or face being thrown out. My husband and I were longtime patrons for years and then our last visit was shocking. My husbands salad dressing was spoiled and we told the assistant manager. He only had a salad and appetizer for dinner and simply expected to get the price refunded for the salad, no more since it was inedible...
I have never had a bad experience here. We dine out and entertain often. This place is great to take out of town guests if you want to show them a little bit of Texas. Its not overkill...but warm and inviting..like a nice upscale hunting lodge. Mounted wildlife, crackling fireplaces, fully bricked interior, and a wine cellar to die for. They offer fabulous, high grade meat...you can even pick out...
well I unlike my husband ordinarily don't fancy steakhouses but this one has impressed me i am an avid cheese eater, I love the STUFF!!!! they have huge cheese blocks at the salad bar, so I definetly would recommend the salad bar. We did also try an appetizer we tried the jalapeno and cheese stuffed shrimp, they were delicous. My husband tried the new york steak and I ordered the hamburger. we s...
I've been going to the Taste of Texas (ToT) since 2004 and always felt they had great steaks. My wife had never been to ToT, therefore we decided to go for dinner to celebrate our anniversary. Throughout the years, I always talked a good game about this place, but became concerned when my wife mentioned the negative reviews on this website. Well......... we went on a Friday night and only wai...
My husband had talked up Taste of Texas for months, but since it was a little beyond our newlywed budget, I did not have the chance to eat there until my sweet hubby splurged for my birthday. I was so excited, and eager to sample such a highly recomended restaurant. To make things festive, I dressed up in a formal dress, and hubby wore his tux, and we went out on the town. We were seated promptly...
I went to this restaurant one time and one time only back in 2004. I accidentally somehow signed up for a newsletter, that I get a few times a year. I've called and e-mailed and everything else but they just won't remove me from their mailing list.
I thought the place was loud and busy. It seemed to take forever to get seated and then served. There's better places to go.
I feel sorry for...
The owner of the Taste of Texas" has a 30.06 sign posted on the front door. This sign prevents law abiding customers who are licensed to carry a handgun concelaed from carrying in the place of business. It does not prevent criminals from carrying handguns in the place of business.
Therefore, No matter how good the food is, I will not spend my money at an anti gun rights restaurant. Especiall...
I love this place. The steaks are AWESOME and the service is great. You can walk up to the butcher counter and choose your own steak.
Unfortunately, the average wait to get a table is just a little over an hour if you have 4 in your party. Anything over 4 and the wait increases by about 45 minutes to an hour. I have come to accept this as part of the dinning experice at the Taste of Texas so I...
I'd heard about this place for years and finally had a chance to dine there with friends and was sorely disappointed. We were there on a Tuesday night and it was very crowded and loud. Cocktails were watered down and the service was chaotic (waiter was watching a movie on a child's laptop at a neighboring table). I ordered the porterhouse which was the toughest steak I'd had in years. I would h...
I use to be a big fan of this place.. I love the salad bar and soups and my husband loves the steak. The customer service is usually great except when i called to make reservations for 2 for 730 the hostess was like you dont need to make reservations then when i asked her "are you sure? is it normally slow?" she yeah its busy but you can come in and wait, and im like i just asked you to make res...
This is one of the best steak houses in town serving Angus beef. The salad bar is second to none. The atmosphere is more family style than stuffy steak house.
More than $10 per drink is simply ridiculous. It took the guy about 12 minutes to make 2 margaritas and a pina colada-that's inexcusable. That ice shaving machine you've got is silly, slow, and loud, especially since bartender is inept. My wife complained that her drink tasted like ice water, but when she saw the look of disgust in my eyes when I thought of going to get the drink remade and miss...
The food, the service, the atmosphere is very very good. The salad bar gets a little crowded, but the wait is well worth the array of choices from salads, cheeses, and my favorite, breads. The waitstaff was polite, very helpful with selection choices, and very attentive. Worth the price.
We first tried Taste of Texas when a friend from out of state visited and wanted to go. We were pleasantly surprsied then, and have been thoroughly pleased ever since. Being a meat eater, and a huge fan of steak, I won't settle for the run-of-the-mill (fill in your own chain steak house here) steak. The steak is phenomenal, and the rest of it is great (but you really go for the meat). It is e...
I have been to this restaurant before and had a fairly decent experience, this last time I do not know what happened. The service was good and the waitress was really attentive, however I have had better FRESHER food at a steak house. The lobster sucked, was over cooked and had a nasty charbroil taste to it. The steak was full of fat and not cooked properly. Lets not talk about the stuff they try...
I'd been wanting to try this place, but am so sorry that I did. The experience begins with a nightmare of a parking lot. It took my husband 20 minutes to find a spot. The worst part, though, is the food...it is flat, boring and completely without flavor. The salad bar is tiny and uninteresting, the prime rib thin and leathery, and the sides completely tasteless. Even the cheescake tasted fro...
I hate getting dressed up to eat but I love excellent food. Taste of Texas is the answer to this dilemma. It's so good, I stopped swearing off red meat. The prime rib is divine. DIVINE. It's perfectly roasted, tender, juicy, and melts like butter in my mouth. I don't understand how people order an appetizer, with a salad bar and bread bar, it's enough to almost make me full. I can never finish th...
If you are looking for atmosphere and an excellent steak, Taste of Texas is the place. The decorum is Texas flavor with a flair. This place is a wonderland at Christmas. I absolutely love it!
The food is exceptional quality with home baked breads, fresh salad, fantastic burgers and totally attentive service. You can even choose your steak from a special display window at the back of the resta...
My friends and I love a great steak and we have been here a couple a times and it was good I was not all together please with the wait to be seated and we had a reservation for a birthday. the service is good once we got to our seats. I think for the price you pay that when you take the time to make a reservation you get seated when you get there not 25 min and they could make the bar more acces...
This restaurant is a great value for the money. You can even choose your own steak from the display case by the salad bar.
I went here because I got a gift certificate- I wanted to try it because I had never been here. Walking it, it was a bit surreal- I have never seen so many people waiting in one place. That said, there is a great waiting area with snacks and drinks, and the numbers go up on a screen so they are not constantly yelling out people's names. We had to wait, but they have a nice bar area and we were ac...
The food here is wonderful! We went early on a Friday night, so there was no wait. It did get crowded, and loud. I didn't mind because the food was so good. The salad bar is great, and the mozzerella bread--to die for! Didn't get around to dessert, but they looked good. Maybe next time!
This is simply the best steak in town. I love the food here and the restaurant has a great atmosphere to eat in. If the steak doesn't impress you (which I doubt will happen), then the salad bar has to. This place is one of the best places for salads. They have a very courteous staff and incredible food, what more can you ask for? Well, they let you tour the place and many schools have field trips...
My steak-eating friends loved this place - the beef was apparently top-notch (they actually allow you to select your cut of beef if you are so inclined) and the side dishes were delicious according to them. You can order a very small cut (6 oz) if you don't have a huge appetite.
I really enjoyed the salad bar they had here - it was excellent for a steak house salad bar.
This is a fairly cl...
This place always have great food and service. They know how to treat their customers the right way. I am a bit frustrated at the increase in the prices as I'm sure most customers are. I think I'll lay off steak for a while until the prices come back down. A great place for having a good time.
PROS: Great food and service
CONS: expensive price
Anyone that wants to complain about a wait at the Taste of Texas, go to another steak house then and let me have your table!! The wait is long because the steaks are exquisite and everyone loves them. Nothing can compare to their filets, bacon wrapped with some garlic butter, its well worth the wait. Some people complain that their chicken dishes are sub par but guess what its a steakhouse, why...
Salad bar is great. Not too big, but great variety, a cheese block, fresh breads etc. Very much a "Big Texas" kind of place. "Yihah" and red scarf is compulsory for new guests.. a unique gesture to welcome the guests..
I dont know what the Californian is whining about. This place has one of the best steaks anyewhere in the country. It does take time to get in, if the food was so bad, I dont this the line would be so long, it isnt like Bruce Willis is in there with a harmonica, its good food, thats why people go...
i was visiting from northern california and wanted to get the authentic texas experience. service was absolutely horrible here! basically, had to wait for an hour before seating. then, the hostess made us wait another 15 minutes after our number was called because she was busy chit chatting with her colleagues. After we were seated, the waiters had to "change over responsibility" for some rea...
I personally LOVE this place. Very good quality steaks...even well done is tender. Salad bar is WONDERFUL. Not too big, but great variety, a cheese block, fresh breads, homemade butters, etc. Very much a "Big Texas" kind of place. Not dainty and prissy. Great tasting side items, yummy desserts, and just a fun (and loud) atmosphere. Not for a romantic quiet date. Waiting area has sodas, tea, chips...
As many people have said, make sure to be watching for your number or else you will not get seated. The salad bar was nice, and my steak was really good. The atmosphere is very much like Saltgrass, as was the meal. I would say that it is a good place to eat, but for the price I would much prefer other steakhouses in Houston. I dont like the fact that you cant make a reservation for small parties.
My mom really should have complained on Mother's Day after sitting for close to two hours in line, after her spinach stuffed chicken was "disgusting". She refused because she didnt' want to ruin the reputation of this classy restaurant. Its self evident that they take pride in their food and service, but that chicken did taste terrible. I had the prime rib and thoroughly enjoyed it. I love this p...
We love Taste of Texas. Before you eat they have an excellent waiting room with popcorn, chips, etc so the kids won't get hungry. Awesome salad bar, great steaks, and better desserts!
We love to go there! My kids enjopy the playground and I enjoy the tatmosphere. The staff is friendly and I love the fact that it is verry nice Even though we miss them on Sundays, we are at church
I'm confused? Someone recommended this restaurant to me, and when I got their excited for a good meal, I was dissapointed. What was supposed to be a nice steakhouse, I felt like I was at steak-n-ale.
You haven't had real steak unless you've been to Taste of Texas! Not only does the decor and ambiance reflect everything that is Texan, but the proves to be more than worth the trip! With the choice to select your own piece of meat or have the cook choose, you can't go wrong with anything on the menu!
My family judges all steak dinners by the Taste of Texas dinners. You can even pick out your own steak if you so desire. The salad bar is first class; all ingredients are fresh; fill your own basket with biscuits, cornbread or rolls. Enjoy a roaring fire during cold weather, an assortment of Nutcrackers and other decorations during Christmas, and much ado about Texas history during any vis...
During our visit we were eating and also feeding my 6-month old niece. In the middle of feeding her we were asked if we would take her to a section next to the bar because she was being too loud, "but not to worry because there is air conditioning over there." We had a few problems with that: 1. The manager was extremely rude and condescending, 2. That section of the restaurant is a next to the...
FABULOUS SERVICE....INCREDIBLE FOOD....what more can you ask for??? You will wait for a table, but definately worth it. The steaks have the best flavor, and can be cut with a fork. A MUST EAT PLACE IN HOUSTON!!!
If you live in Houston or are just visiting, Taste of Texas is a must to try. They maintain a high standard to serve only the best steaks-angus beef. Waiters are very personable and attentive. The salad bar has a great variety of dressings. I love the honey butter and apple butter. They do not take reservations, so go early on weekends or better yet, go on a weeknight. Well worth your time and mo...
Perfect service and always has been. Sometimes you may have to wait, but who cares? The give you snacks and drinks in their extremely comfortable and huge waiting area. This place is 1st class the whole way. I've never had a bad meal here. I love the filet w/lobster upside. (The lobster here is better that at those place "specializing" in lobster!
BEST STAKE IN THE COUNTRY I HAVE ATE AT A LOT OF THEM AROUND THE US
You can't beat tht Taste of Texas for hospitality and a great meal---STEAK, CHICKEN OR SHRIMP!!! The staff and managers are the friendliest you can find and make on's dining experience SUPREME!!!!
I had heard many good things about the Taste of Texas before going so I had high hopes. They did not deliver. The "no reservation" policy is an excellent way to get people to dump money into your bar before they dump even more at the table. Although the wait staff was very polite, they weren't very knowledgeable or helpful. The hostess and management seemed very all aloof and didn't seem to c...
Taste of Texas use to be onr of the best. They have fallen in the past year or two. Out of 7 trips to dine there 30% was less then satisfaction. Either the steak was not up to par or the service was lacking. This was my families favorite place at one time.
This place is awesome! The staff is friendly, the food is amazing, and you can't beat the value. They even have a huge waiting area with complimentary drinks and snacks if you have to wait. The steaks are perfect! It's my favorite steakhouse in all of America!
The steaks are tender, cooked to perfection & absolutely delightful to sink ones teeth into! The salad bar is a meal in itself. I was thoroughly impressed!
I was first introduced to Taste Of Texas when my son's 4th grade class visited there on a school field trip. Dining there is a thouroughly enjoyable event, from the well scrubbed, excrutiatingly polite staff to the endless supply of fresh baked breads to being able to specify how many ounces and which cut of steak your heart desires . Thoroughly professional, down home friendly and a total lack o...
4 of us had dinner Saturday night and what an experience. There was an hour wait but I was curious because I had heard such great things. Not only was the service amazing, the steaks were fabulous and you can even select the piece you want. The salad bar was great and there were tons of people celebrating their birthdays around us. It was a fun environment and the food and service were terrific. ...
While the food was good, it was almost impossible to hold a conversation in the main dining area. My steak was rare, as I ordered it. Most restaurants can't seem to ubderstand what rare is. So credit for that. Service was decent, however maybe a bit rushed. Salad bars are passe.
Obvious popular location based on the crowd, but having someone to talk to is the obvious attraction. The steaks are usually undercooked or overcooked. I have visited the restaurant more than three times and each time, the steaks had to be sent back because it was not prepared as requested. The lobster tails are really dry. The side dishes are less than stellar. A REALLY overrated establisment.
The very best steak I've ever had. Great selection, great service, wonderful atmosphere, would definitely recommend anyone to go.
I visited Houston and had heard about Taste of Texas through several acquaintaces but never believed them. We had the Fillet Mignon, Porterhouse and Prime Rib. ALL were delicious and exceptionally prepared! Yum! Yum! Yum! For this reason alone i'd be willing to come back to Houston.
The Taste of texas provides more food than most can manage, so come prepared to bring a doggy bag home. the atmosphere is fun and entertainig and is perfect for families or dates. The wait can tend to be some what long, but it is more than worth it. they also are generous to provie a waiting area with comp. sodas, chips and popcorn. If you haven't been here you are missing out
I think it is a very good family resturant but I don't think it rates number 1 as a steakhouse. To be a great steakhouse, the meat should be prime beef, number one and it should be an elegant with classic decor such as Ruth's or Pappas with similar type service.
I though the salad bar and bread was a good idea. When my children were younger they would have been happy to have this type of food served to them so quickly. The wine list was a bit pricey but good choices.
My biggest complaint is I like steak but not such a big one. I like a 6 to 8 ounce steak and do not want to share one with someone else. I, also, do not like to take a steak hom...
Ive been here many times, and have allways liked the food, and service, and the atmosphere. I go on off peak hours, and have never waited to be seated. I have tried most other steak houses in Houston, and this one is nice. But the cost is not worth it as a monthly place to go out. the service has allways been excellent for me.
Well well, I cannot believe some of these reviews! I have been to the Taste at least 50 times over the years, and only once, yes once, did I receive a steak (ribeye) which I felt need to go back.
If you go to the rear of the resturant, next to the salad bar, you can pick your own cut of meat. Now, for those of you who feel you are a steak officianado; if you pick your own cut, then you can...
I moved here and heard this was the steak place to eat at.... Not at all. The atmosphere and service was good, but a steak eater goes somewhere for the food, which was average at best.
yes, Taste of Texas is very nice, the service is ok, and the food is good. But while there are fancier places to eat, the top of my list as far as taste and cut goes is either location of Perry's Steak House in Clear Lake, a suburb city of houston. In fact ive been to steak houses all over the world and Perry's is superior.
I can't believe all the negative reviews on one of my favorite steak places! I live in Austin, and I usually try to make it to this restaurant whenever I'm in houston. Trust me, I am an avid fine steak conniseur. I always order the filetmignon whenever I go to steakhouses. I've eaten at some of the top steakhouses around: Emeril's Delmonico in Vegas; Morton's of Chicago; Ruth Chris; Sullivan's i...
This is one of Houston's worst examples of steak houses. Unfortunately, they have a wonder setting and offer a "good feeling" of being in a Texas Eatery. But the food is lacking and not worth the price. If you want to enjoy the ambiance...eat CHICKEN!!! Save you Steakbuds for somewhere else.
As is all too often the case, high standards are almost impossible to maintain. The service was once impeccable because every employee was hired based not only on their abilities but their own drive to succeed. My last three dining experiences were so poor it left me no other choice but to find another steak place.
Once the best, now too much like all of the rest.
Although the steaks are fairly decent... the wait will drive a sane person to the brink.... If you have kids this is the place to go, if they don't mind waiting.. When paying those prices you certainly don't want to have to help yourself at the salad bar... I will always pick one of the other steakhouses in town, especially considering they take RESERVATIONS!!!!
What a disappointment and waste of time. I've heard so much about Taste of Texas--it's rated as one of the best steakhouses in Texas--so I was excited about going there and having a great steak. I could berate this restaurant for hours, but I'll just list my main criticisms. (1) For an expensive, upscale restaurant, I didn't expect to be herded into a waiting room with popcorn, cokes, and nachos....
If I have to stand in line for a steak, I'll not eat one. THis place, although the steaks are good, is more like an up-scale sizzler or Bonanza or Ryans. I like to have my salads prepared and delivered, rather than to be allowed to graze at the salad bar as many patrons do. Most of th steaks are USDA Choice Certifed Angus. Can someone describe how you certify an Angus? My Dachsund is registe...
The Food and selection is excellent. The waitstaff and management are very friendly, professional and attentive. This is a good place for 2 to 30 people. Some of the best tasting steaks anywhere.
When I go out for a nice Steak I want to show up at the restaurant and be waited on, especially considering the cost of a fine Steak dinner. Overrated since the average wait for me has been 1 hr., 45 minutes, no reservations, loud in the dining areas, salad bar instead of a waiter bringing your meal. The food is good but would choose 5 other Steak Houses in Houston before this one!
Taste of Texas is good food but for a steak I would recommend Lynns STeakhouse off of Dairy Ashford.
It is excellent service, food, and the setting is quiet.
Alot of companies around that area take large parties there for dinner and lunch.
Taste of Texas is One of many steakhouse i've been to and its the best, the hostesses made me feel welcome as if i was at home in Orlando. Food is excellent, people are friendly.
Tase of Texas is good, but highly overpriced. As good or better steaks in Houston area for much less money.
probably one of the best steak deal in town but people in front are just plain rude.
I have been to this restaurant many times and will continue to go on a regular basis. The service is excellent and the staff is attentive. The salad bar and homemade bread are incredible and this all is before the steak is brought to your table. The meat is excellent and cooked exactly to my taste. However, I do recomment getting there early, 5:30 p.m., if you want to be seated promptly. They wil...
Our friends and family love Taste of TX. Everything there is Grade A. From the moment you walk in the door. You are greeted by smiling friendly hostesses. The steaks are the best I have ever had. The salad bar is always fresh and their breads are unbelievable. Be sure to leave room, if you can, for desert. They are AMAZING!
Taste of Texas is completely over-rated in my opinion on steaks. The "sizzling hot" plate continues cooking the meat and typically I have ended up with an over-done steak. Very minimal seasoning of the meat makes this over-done meant even less appealing.
A native Houstonian, I have eaten at countless different restaraunts in the area. Taste of Texas is by far the best! From the delictable salad bar, complete with huge blocks of cheese and rasberry vinagarette, to the fresh warm bread and cinnamon butter, Taste has got it all. The steaks are to die for, but even if you arent a fan of red meat, there is something for you on the menu. A visit to Tas...
Originally this was a great steak house, but in the last couple of years it has gone down hill, both in service and quality.
This is a great family place. It is packed and even with reservations you have to wait. They have a great bar and seating area for waiting.
No way Taste of Texas comes in first. It not close to being as good as Pappas Steak House which is number 1 followed closely by Mortons and then Capitol Grill. In addition to lagging these in food quality the decor isn't even close. The inside of Taste of Texas is not muh different than a big Bonanza!
A lot of fuss for a mediocre steak house in Texas. Overpriced steaks and not so friendly environment. Just about the only thing that is original is the bandana and Hee Haw for the out of state visitors. Otherwise, everything else is pretty much the same.
Taste of Texas is the absolute best steak in Houston. Every time I've been there it has notr only been wonderful food but in general a very pleasant dining experience.
THIS RESTAURANT SERVES EVERY NEED YOU HAVE-WAITING IS MADE A PLEASURE NOT A CHORE, THE SALAD BAR IS TO DIE FOR AND THE FOOD IS SERVED TO PERFECTION. THE STAFF IS TRAINED TO REMEMBER WHO THE COSTOMER IS!
Excellent steak restaurent. Must be among the top 10 in the USA.
Mandatory dinner when visiting Houston.
Congratulations!!!
The food was excelent i would recommeng going there to any one
I recently ate at this restaurant and found it lacking...service terrible. Food overpriced.
The ambiance was terrific, the service was wonderful and the food was magnificent. From the fresh salads to the warm baked breads to the tender melt in your mouth tantilizing steak....this is a dining experience you will never forget and will come back soon to delight in the delicious wonders of The Taste of Texas.
Nice place, long wait, good salad bar, o.k. steaks, other food is great. not the best steak in Houston, but I would recomend going.
To rank Taste of Texas as number one in Houston is absolutely ridiculous. The meat is of mediocre grade and overdone. The salad bar is a little too "country". The bandanas are ridiculous. The wine list is decent.
We had a most delightful evening there, celebrating our 40th anniversary - we were really impressed and have recommended it to several other couples.
The food and atmosphere is wonderful but, the parking is terrible and no reservations are taken.
T of T is not a bad staek place, but I can't believe anyone thinks it is the best. Pappas Bros has a far better steak, swankier stmosphere, better service, more extensive wine list, and better deserts. The steak at T of T is no better than one at a Sizzler or an Outback. Nothing special to it at all.
Taste of Texas has the best steaks in the country! I've tried many other resturants and always attempt to compare to Taste of Texas, the winner is always the same.
Even if it is crowded, therre is and in door waiting area with free soft drinks and popcorn to hold you over.
Taste of Texas has the best steaks in Texas. Actually, the best steaks anywhere.
We went there because a friend said it was great.
It was.
This is my very favorite restaurant in Houston! My husband & I have never had a bad steak here. I like being able to choose my own steak. It's such a busy place, the wait can be easily an hour or more....but once you get to your table, it's so well worth the wait!! One of my Christmas wishes every year is for a gift certificate to Taste of Texas!!
There is no place that can compare to Taste of Texas. The steak literally melts in your mouth. The service is wonderful.
The food is great...absolutely delicious! The atmosphere is comfortable. The service is excellent!
I had the best steak I have ever eatin at tast of texas. The atmosphere was wonderful
Some one needs to give the kitchen some coaching on how to season food. The steaks were lame - no seasoning. It took forever to get seated. I think this place enjoys popularity because it is kind of a novelty - sort of like putting antlers on a jack rabbit & calling it a jackelope.
Service is very good along with the food. Once, though, my husband was served a somewhat grisely steak, complained to the waiter and his dinner was taken off the bill. These people know how to give back to please the customer. It creates a feeling of good will along with the delicious salad bar which can be a meal in itself.
Absolutely the most fulfilling place to eat! Great food, wonderful service. I'd give it a 10.
If you're looking for a steak with béarnaise sauce, that tastes right, go to taste of texas. NONE, I repeat NONE of the other top 10 restaurants make this sauce the way it is supposed to be made. The wait borders the ridiculous, but the food is awesome.
Excellent Resturaunt.... Great salad bar with the best in tender steaks.
My favorite restuarant in Houston. I go on special occ asions and alway have the filet. Excellent!!
I travel all over the country and am a continuous visitor of Houston, Texas and have 'tried' a various number of steak houses and the Taste of Texas is by far, THE BEST! The restaurant's atmosphere, service and the meat, of course, is wonderful! That place is always my FIRST choice!
Good overall, but very limited parking, too crowded at peak times even with reservatins........
I went there expecting a wonderful steak dinner w/my husband and I wanted to cry. I ordered the 16oz Ribeye dinner and about a 1/3 of my steak was fat. They never offered to let me pick out my steak first and once I receive it I expressed to the waiter how disappointed I was b/c of the amount of fat they made no attempt to correct it. I will not go there again.
Steaks are great at T of T. But the absolute best are at Capital Grille. Maybe the fact that you need a jacket and the prices are higher keeps the majority away.
Apparently those people that think Taste of Texas is a great steak house. Capital Grille, Sullivan's, Ruth's Chris, those are steak houses. They don't take reservations, that is unbelievable. It is almost impossible to get in the place. I have never seen so many yahoos in my life as I saw trying to get into this hash house.
I have eaten at Taste of Texas 5 times and I just love it. I have tried most of their apetizers and they are all delicious. As for the main course, filet mignon only. However, it is so good I wish not to try anything else.
If you haven't tried it yet, you certainly should. I have been there many times and have yet to be disappointed. Everything is prepared to perfection but the wait can be long. Thankfully they have a bar that can make some good drinks that will help pass the time.
"Are you celebrating a special event today?" That's what every server inquires when seating customers. " Are you joking?" should be your response. If you are celebrating a special event you certainly shouldn't choose to do so at Taste of Texas. So-so food with undeservingly escalating prices and bottoming standards of service. Half a step above the old Bonanza/Ponderosa restaurants. A definite 2 ...
Taste of Texas is bland and kitschy compared to more sophisticated central-Houston steakhouses like Pappas Bros. The steak was adequate, but certainly nothing to brag about, and we quickly became annoyed with the frequent "Happy Birthday" choruses and "Yee-Haws" from the wait staff, as well as with the country music ballads blasting over the sound system. The salad bar was gross, the wine list ...
The food is the absolute best!! The service is also excellent. We did have to wait a couple of hours to be seated, but it was also Valentines Day. Would absolutely recommend.
Service was slow and the steak was alright I have had better.
This is definitely one of the best! The wait is worth it! I love the honey butter and of course the desserts!
This place has terrible service. They try to kick you out if you get there around 10:00 pm on Friday and the wait staff does not a below-average job. The food is not all that either. Don't waste your money here. Strongly suggest other steakhouses like Pappas Steakhouse where the food and service are really worth your dollars.
Waited 2 hours for oily gristle. Salad bar boring. Bread gross.
Don't bother placing a reservation because they don't take them and bring your wallet. Steaks are good, but not prime. Great wine list, but not the best steak in Houston.
We have dined at Taste of Texas serveral times and found the food delicious, but have always been frustrated by the service and long lines.
Although after our recent visit, I am please to say they are getting the message, and are working to improve their service.
We had a wonderful meal, were seated promptly and treated to a first class experience.
Everything was prepared perfectly from ...
Be prepared to wait but then it's the end of the rainbow when you taste the steak!!!!
The setting is great and the service is tremendous. But most of all I love to go pick the steak and wait in antipication for the mouth watering treat that is to follow.
Of course you have to save room for desert 'cause the adventure doesn't stop at dinner.
You have to go!!!!!
Everything was perfect, the salads, breads, ice tea, service, right up til we were ready to leave. We could not get the waiter to bring a box and check. We sat for 30 minutes and reminded him several times.
Taste of Texas deserves a '10' all around. The steaks are melt in your mouth yummy! The service is fantastic. The ambience of the restaurant especially around the holidays is very cozy and romantic.
Don't waste your time. Remember Bonanza? You got better food there, no doubt.
Steaks melt in your mouth. The selection of breads is wonderful!!
Regardless of reputation, this establishment remains mid-range in quality of its beef. Spend the few extra dollars and move up to higher-end quality found at Ruth's Chris and Pappas Brothers
Absolutely the BEST! I have tried nearly every steak in town. Those who say Taste of Texas is not worth the money, then go on to say that Pappa's is better, need a reality check. Taste of Texas has the best steaks in Houston. Tender and flavorful. The quality of the meat is second to none. Thanks Taste of Texas!
Mediocre food - mediocre service - definitely NOT worth the wait or the pricetag.
Houston has some terrific steak to offer. However, Taste of Texas is remarkable. You can select your own steak or allow your serve to make the selection. Everything my party (4 of us) tried was exceptional. As a matter of fact, their menu states that they bet you have never had better (and can prove it).
I just can't believe someone would go to a place and get TAKEN like this. A great steak is wonderful but a great steak at these SOOOO stick-it-to-you prices and WE DON'T TAKE RESERVATIONS attitude ---no thanks! In fact I'm a good cook and I can match these flavors for....oh lets see 10% of what they charge! I can't beleive they are even in the top 10!!! Pappas, Ruth Chris, Mortons--all take reser...
I am a fan of Taste of Texas and have enjoyed their Texas ambiance for entertaining guests for a long time. However, to say that their steaks are the best in town is just not true. They do have good food and the salad bar is impressive but the quality of meat isn't what you would fine at the more traditional high-end steakhouses i.e. Ruth Chris, Morton's, Pappas etc. I would also say that I've...
I went with three friends. I had a short wait with a helpful bartender. We ordered. Forty minutes after finishing our salads, our waitress finally explained our meal was late due to large parties. Ten minutes later, a manager noticing our delay offered complimentary desserts explaining our meal would be another 8 minutes. Ten minutes later, we caught the manager and our food was delivered af...
There has never been a time in the 10 years we've been choosing the Taste of Texas as our favorite restaurant, that we did not have a delicious meal. We stop at the Taste of Texas on our way to the ballet, birthdays and just because...We go there for any and every occassion we can think of. The atmosphere is out of this world. The Wait-staff are quick and eager to help, so you feel good leaving a...
Love the service. I know it takes awhile to be seated, but it's worth the wait.
Ever since I've been in Houston for the past 14 years I've always considered The Taste of Texas to be the ultimate in steak dining. When I was younger I knew a few people that worked there, so I knew what went on behind the scenes. To this day I love The Taste of Texas and hope to return there soon!
The steaks there are great. They have great taste, and are cooked to perfection. This steak house sould be number one on anyones list.
Inconvenient; less than pleasant clientele and waitpersons. In general, not an acceptable venue for dining.
You will not get any better service than at Taste of Texas. It is well worth the wait no matter how long it is (enjoy the bar area with popcorn, nachos, etc.) The steaks are the best in Houston and the state for that matter. The atmosphere is beautiful (especially at Christmas). Their salad bar and bread are beautiful and massive (be sure to save room for the main course). Don't forget that speci...
We have never had a bad steak or bad service.Servous is obviously first on the Manager's list.
I've tried all the high priced, ala carte steak houses that claim to be the best, but they are no better than Taste of Texas. This place is twice as big as the rest, have huge crowds, and still manage to turn out a great steak at a decent price. While I can't quibble that some places are fancier and have cigars and such, this place serves a quality piece of meat at a fair price. Try it...you wo...
Waited about 1hr 15min for a table, but free chips/salsa, popcorn, soda/tea were great (even if the chips were waaaaaaay greasy!). Our waiter was superb. The salad bar had something for everyone and the bread bar was delicious. The melba toast they brought to the table was a bit confusing, but forget that... there are... the steaks! We split the porterhouse for two, served SEARING hot on a ca...
Con: Don't take reservations
Pro: Get FREE chips, popcorn, and soft drink while waiting for dinner!
Oh ya, and the steak is great too! I took my fiance there, and we shared a porterhouse to make this experience great in our tummies and my wallet!
The food is good. The service is good. The atmosphere is pleasant. But somehow it is always a very sterile experience.
Best steak for your money, excellent service. People that write they had a bad experience should get a manager and I assure you they will make you happy. I have known the owners, Ed and Nina Hendee, for years and they will not let an unhappy customer out the door, they will do whatever it takes to make them happy. Neat experience, huge place inside w/ nice TX decor, huge waiting area with free...
Taste of Texas fits the classic Yogi Berra saying, "Nobody goes to that restaurant anymore... it's too crowded."
The place is always packed for good reasons -- great food and probably the best service you'll find on the West Side. This is a big place and the quality is comparable to Brenner's or Sullivan's, but it's not as cozy. A good place to take in-laws who don't like you -- it won't cha...
