Fresh sushi, in a super hip, trendy and cool environment. Japanese cartoonish art on the walls, and great music fill the room.
The sushi is all great and yummy though there is no one roll that I have to have at any moment. Bento boxes are reasonably priced, and they have a huge drink menu (longer than the food menu)......
Oh and happy hours and the bar area at nights are always super pa...
Fun Atomosphere...bit pricey.. but worth the experience , love the Peach Nympho cocktail. Sat at the bar and received great service.Love the anime on the walls.
Fun, high end sushi
We had a GREAT experience. We visited during our Honeymoon and the staff was attentive and the food was delicious! Everything came out quickly and we really enjoyed ourselves. They even called us a cab after dinner.
The music was pumping the staff seemed to be having a fantastic time slinging their sushi, the cocktails were one of a kind & the food was amazing! Def a place to bring groups or people from out of town... & they even sell the lethal FUGU! ...this is THE PLACE TO BE!!
The VERY BEST sushi in town. Yeah, that's an honest description. The menu is great, but they excel at their very best specially -- sushi! Fresh and delicious, give them a try and you won't regret it!
The VERY BEST sushi in town. Yeah, thats an honest description. The menu is great, but they excel at their very best specialy -- sushi! Fresh and delicious, give them a tryand you won't regret it!
Blowfish is right around the corner from my house, so I probably go there more than I would if I had to travel from the other side of town. Each time I go, I'm astounded by the quality and selection of fish. However, I'm equally amazed that the ambiance has not been adjusted since the early 2000s. The anime and techno are no longer required, please
Staff needs serious training!!! We got 'you are late for your reservation' treatment at the door with no smile or any other positive attitude.
Waitress was SLOOOOOOW and definitely not for this job. Maybe due to the economy situation she found this job to make her ends meet and failed miserable without even trying to be nice and considerate to her customers. HORRIBLE experience. It s very sad...
Very disappointed. Service is bad, very slow and very unwelcoming staff. Not worth to leave downtown for it, location is not safe either.
Will never come back and will not recommend it to anyone.
Stay away from bad service.
I was visiting for a conference and cabbed it out to Blowfish. The service was outstanding, with attentive but not overbearing waitress. I tried a couple of specialty mixed drinks, which were fun but not fantastic. The rolls were good and the fish was really fresh. It was a Monday night so not very crowded, but the vibe was good. The only problem was trying to get a cab back to civilization.
Sounds like a great night.
I've gone here for years but not in some time. New owner? What's up. It took 25 minutes to get a glass of water. Their namesake Blowfish roll was bland and covered by just a sliver of salmon. The waitress only came by 2 x. We had to ask someone else to finally get a bill. No, she never did ask how the meal was. But then the absolute worse was the katsuo. Imag...
This place is not worth leaving downtown San Francisco for! If your visiting the city and are staying downtown or near Fisherman's Wharf don't bother taking the cab ride here! Unless of course over-priced second rate sushi with an attitude is what you are craving. Go to Maru Sushi on Powell. MUCH BETTER QUALITY AND NO ATTITUDE.
Not sure what happened to Blowfish but it used to be outstanding... now, it is very average. The fish doesn't taste that fresh, the rolls are nothing to write home about. Maybe it has just been off the last few times I have been there- I certainly hope so!
Be prepared for a rather loud atmosphere with annoying Japanese Anime showing on TVs throughout the restaurant. For those with A.D.D., watch out, you'll be staring at TVs all night! The restaurant is small, we chose to sit in the bar area at mini tables. People were brushing by our table all night. The menu had some great items on it. We had a great tasting Kobe Carpaccio, the ponzu foam was...
I heard about this place one too many times so my date and I decided to finally try it out. We went on a Friday night and we had a wonderful experience. Very hip restaurant and the food was excellent. The fish was so fresh that it melted in my mouth. The service was unexpectedly good too. I had read some reviews that said the service was poor so I was pleasantly surprised to find that our waitres...
I used to love this place but was disappointed by my last visit. Unless you get very fresh sushi, it's too pricey. I ordered all sashimi and nothing melted in my mouth. Too many less fancy Sushi spots in SF that have a lot fresher fish.
My wife and I are regulars. The sushi and the scene are still fantastic but the service the last three times we went has been markedly worse.
I used to eat lunch here at least twice a month when I worked in the hood until about 4 months ago. I know service was never great, but yesterday I took my brother and his wife, who's Japanese, visiting from out of town, I was beyond embarrassed to have even suggested eating here. First of all, I am a gay dad to a 10 month-old baby, who was with us. I know that crowded restaurants and babies d...
a bit loud inside, but the atmosphere can be fun if you're with a big group. the sushi was good, but nothing to rave about. i'd go more for the ambience than the sushi.
Rude server ruined a good experience.Suzi do not tell me you can't wait for a cold beer at the end of your shift and treat us like crap............What's up Jason
Like I said, you can't have a bad night at blowfish. Kind of loud, so not a good place for a romantic date.
If you like fresh, unique flavored sushi, this is the best spot in town. The sushi here is absolutely delicious w/ a wide variety to choose from. My husband and I started w/ the gyoza's, and it was by far, the best gyoza's we'd ever had. We also ordered the Buddha roll, Dragon roll, Godzilla roll, and the 1920th roll. They were all excellent. Would recommend to get there early because it doe...
This restaurant is for those who don't know real sushi, and those who like a small portion fancy concotions using moderate tasting sushi. It is full of yuppies and the loud japaname techno is not good for digestion.
The atmosphere is decent but the sushi is nothing great. The fish doesn't seem 'fresh'..mabye fresh frozen but that's about all. A bit over priced for the quality of food.
PROS: parking is decent
CONS:
The Blowfish atmosphere is great. Walls are decked out in Japanese anime artwork, the bartenders are friendly, and the crowd is hip. The sushi holds it's own in the trendy atmosphere, although I have to admit that I was a little too caught up in the scene (and the sake selection) to remember many specifics about the meal.
This place is completely the opposite of your typical sushi restaurant. Loud techno and anime cartoons apparently go very well with sushi. Very crowded, but no one seemed to care. The food is excellent and the service gets the job done. Gets you in the mood to go out drinking after your're done eating. Try the Fiesta Roll!
after eating sushi up and down the california coast, i finally came across something i'd never seen. a variety of sushi additions such as coconut and mango that left me quite surprised. i wouldn't have thought to add either to a roll, but i wasn't disappointed. great menu, ok staff and fun bar area for after dinner drinks
This is not the place to go if you want quiet, intimate conversation. The techno is loud, and the anime can be distracting, but what I like most is the consistency. I've been going to Blowfish for years, and I must say, their drinks and food are just as tasty as when I first discovered them. I've recommended them to friends and none of them have been disapointed. Try the Pyramid of the Tartare......
This is some of the best Sushi I have had on the West Coast. Small portions (which I like) but a little too expensive. Worth it if you'd like to splurge a little, but get ready to put down some cash for some small, but VERY tasteful portions. And I recommend the Sake as well.
This restaurant is wonderful. The restaurant is set up with low lighting so it seems very personal but at the same time its really trendy so its always busy. To some it may seem a bit impersonal if your trying to have a nice quite dinner. The sushi is phenomenal and very fresh, I must add.
If your looking for a good place to eat fresh sushi..this is defanitly the place to go. It can be a bit...
Restaurants like these are what makes S.F. such a great place to live! A friend and I decided to come here for the S.F. Dine About Town special (3 courses for $30). The place has a very hip vibe (we felt as though we dorked the place up a bit). We were both blown away by the quality of the food. We each sampled different appetizers, entrees, and desserts, and everything we had was amazing. The su...
You go to this place for the scene. Cute girls and anime decor surround you in this techno club that happens to serve sushi. The fish is really good. I'm a traditionalist, so I went with the standard sushi and some rolls. But, everyone seemed to like some of the non-traditional items. Make a reservation. The wait was over an hour on a Sat night, but they've got a good bar to pass the time. The on...
We came here last night for the Dine About Town pre-fixe dinner but ended up ordering from the menu because the sushi items sounded good. We ordered 10 rolls and their tartare pyramid appetizer. The appetizer was good, but of the 10 rolls we had, only 1 was above average. You could do better elsewhere for half the price. Most of us had a drink, 5-6 pieces of sushi and some of the tartare and ende...
I love sushi, so I had to check out blowfish. the place was packed with hipsters and the TVs around the place displayed fun anime movies. the menu looked like it had a unique selection, but i was incredibly disappointed at the sight of the food. the presentation was lovely but the portions were TOO SMALL. 12 bucks for a 4 pieces? Come on! The Super Dynamite Roll had amazing flavor, but you'd hav...
My boyfriend and I went to Blowfish on a Sunday night for some late night Sushi. We didn't book reservations ahead of time so when we got there, we had to wait ten minutes. Surprisingly, the scene was great and the vibe was young, modern and trendy. And this was on a Sunday night - I can only imagine what it's like at lunch or a regular weeknight! Great crowd of people and great food; the service...
I don't consider myself an urban hipster, but I have to admit that I love Blowfish. The sushi is extraordinarily good, but what really makes this restaurant stand out is its hipness. Anime movies play silently in the background, while funky lounge music plays in the background. Blowfish also has incredibly fun sake-based mixed drinks. Definitely a must-see.
If you want great sushi, yummy drinks, a trendy good-looking crowd atmosphere, then Blowfish is king! Another place that I've been to over ten times. I have yet to try anything bad; matter of fact, it's because of Blowfish that I've been so adventurous with sushi. Before Blowfish, I did Cali rolls, now I've tried at least seven different types of sushi because everything always tastes so good.
...
I used to go to Blowfish all the time for lunch and dinner since I worked nearby. While I would give their rolls and appetizers (try the tartare) an A for taste and creativity, I've always been disappointed with their sushi. Read through the reviews and you'll realize I'm not the only one commenting on the freshness of the fish. Tack on the ridiculous prices this is a place for those who want ...
The sushi at this place is not that much better than anywhere else, but the atmosphere makes up for that. The artwork and the music make Blowfish a trendy experience. If you are looking to find a date or just enjoy some sushi with friends this is a great Friday night after work place to go. Also, the salmon pyramid is good too.
Get the Buddha Roll, which is delicious, and the Dynomite Roll, but only if you like spicy food. The unfiltered sake was very good, and even the plum wine didn't come off too sweet. The service was excellent. My only complaint was that the several screens showing anime became distracting and a little annoying after the novelty wore off.
Great place to go when you leave the kids home and go out with a group of adults. Not a great place to chat, but the loud almost clublike atmosphere can be enjoyable with the right amount of drinks. The sushi is pretty good, but you're going here more for the atmosphere.
The sushi is great here, not really to die for, but good nonetheless. The scene or atmosphere is why most people come. It's very uberhip with Japanime on the walls and lots of cute chicks bopping around. Great first or second date restaurant.
PROS: Atmosphere
CONS: Expensive
When you first walk in to Blowfish Sushi, you may fear that the atmosphere is way too hip for you to be there, and that may be true. Japanese anime lines the walls, and the sushi chefs are hot despite their oh-so-ironic trucker caps. The fish they serve up, however, is quite nice. When I visited, I would especially recommend their tuna, which was incredibly flavorful. The specialty cocktails ...
There's one sushi chef there who I think is so hot, and the food is great too. ;-) They play Anime movies on the walls- the atmosphere is super funky. Their cocktails are really good, and the menu is fabu. If you have the chance to take someone there who has never been, they're always impressed.
On a Friday night out, your first cocktail is the best part of the night. We ordered two drinks at Blowfish, a special cocktail and a gimlet. The gimlet is all about the fresh lime juice and was sent out with old, dry limes, with brown edges. I went to the bar to get some fresh limes, but they were only using old limes probably cut a few days ago. This seemed to be the theme of the night. It...
When the bubble burst so did the blowfish. This ultra hip sushi joint is past its prime.
Perfect place to bring a date. Very nice atmosphere with Japanese cartons and music. Medium prices but very good sushi. Try the tuna for apperticers very good.
PROS: Atmosphere
CONS: Close at 12am
A group of us went to Blowfish and had a great dinner. We ordered a ton of food, service was great, and when we got the bill, we were suprised that it was such a great price. I would highly recommend the filet mignon appetizer, and would not recommend the cucumber cocktail (tasted like dirty spa water). Overall the sushi was good, but nothing amazing that stood out. Ambiance was great, and ov...
Every time I drive by Blowfish it is packed so I finally stopped in to try it out. Since, I've been there three times (in the past two months!). The food is really great and the staff has been upbeat and friendly. I think it's a cool place and it's a guaranteed hit if you take someone there who is visiting from out of town!
I don't consider myself a sushi expert but I found this place very disappointing. I expected a new twist, and new flavors in the food at this place, but instead I was let down horribly. This place is all hype. The sushi portions were way small, and the flavors, well how can you really taste anything when the things you're eatting are so small. Don't get me started on the sake. I DO NOT RECOMME...
I dined here last year during a business trip to San Franciso and vow to dine here everythime I'm in San Fran! All the sushi was very tasty but the Fried California Rolls were simply amazing! I wish I could find them in NYC...
Highly Recommended!!!
The atmosphere is what most appeals to me about Blowfish. The environment is really exciting and energetic. Hip without being unpleasantly trendy in my estimation. The fish is pretty damn good, but I enjoy the setting even more. The service is on and off, some of the waitresses could really stand to learn a thing or two, but all in all I've had reasonable service at Blowfish. Probably not th...
I just love this restaurant that good food, good service.I do not understand someone who complaint about sushi. I am assuming that these people are always complaint anyway.(What is shiro maguro?) (What is traditional sushi?)people
I think this restaurant doing traditional nigiri sushi.
Good to know if you are sushi fans.
One of the best parts of going out to have sushi at a "Sushi Bar", is the interaction you have with the Sushi Chef. At Blowfish they have removed this important elimate. Why? This was my first and most likely last time I will go to Blowfish, most everything we had was good, but there were a couple of items that seemed to lack a certain amount of freshness.
I am revising an earlier (negative) review. As before the manga cartoons (e.g. a beloved still from Totoro), decor, cocktails, trendiness, and atmosphere are fun. Service is decent and people-watching is great. Why update? Reason #1: sushi much improved. More attention to detail. Better rice. #2? Believe it or not, for lunch Blowfish is actually an excellent value. The bento box kicks. ...
The hostess & waitress were nice and attentive for a hip restaurant. Sushi was ok, but the mix drink ($7 and it's small) and appetisers ($10+) were very good. Little pricy but I think you have to pay for the atomosphere.
I got around to trying Blowfish a few nights back with a friend. It is just down the street; and I had never checked it out. Wow, I've truely been missing out! The maki and nigiri were amazing. We ordered a ritsu roll, a smoked delight, a fried ebi roll, and their veggie roll, as well as uni, hamachi and maguro. Yummersszzz -- Everything was fresh. The appetizers were a stadout as well. ...
We came in for dinner on a busy weekend with no reservations, the hostess directed us to the bar, where we had cocktails, and eventually decided to eat dinner. The bartenders were great and recommended everything we ordered. Try the bincyo tataki, it is to die for. ha ha.
I've never been to a sushi restaurant where the sushi chefs don't take your order let alone don't talk to you. Ordered our sushi from the waitress and it took over 20 minutes for our 5 nigri orders. And it wasn't like it was busy. The sushi chefs were just hanging out chatting...just like the wait staff. The sushi was not fresh and the service from the sushi staff was even worse. Probably th...
Finally got over to Blowfish sushi for a dinner and came away impressed. Cute little dining room decorated with Japanese anime cels and techno music make for a great environment. Service was good and the waitstaff very attractive. Menu was ecclectic, particularly for the appetizers. I had the filet mignon over spinach and the screaming shrimp, both tasty and well-presented. A couple of sak...
My husband and I went here for our first wedding anniversary on a recommendation from a friend of a friend. It was great. The staff was nice, one of the guys at the bar prepared one of his special rolls for us, fantastic.
Highly recommend this sushi bar. Fresh fish and great drinks.
so hip and trendy, rolls were great, mango mojito is the best drink i've ever had, service was excellent. i'd go there every week if it were more affordable.
I took a date to Blowfish the other night,it was both of our first time there. What a great time we had.The service was great, fast and very friendly. The drinks were awesome and the sushi was off the hook. My date was dancing in her seat, and just the fact that she was having such a good time made the trip there worth it. I will defintely go back.
Dine with my boyfriend and another friend. The food is totally decorative, very fusion. WHile I'm appreciated in all food creativity, the price is just too high for $150 with small portion of food, two drinks and no dessert.
Two nights ago was my third visit there and I love it more and more every time I come back. The sushi is yummy, fresh and unique. I recommend Pyramid tartar and The Punch as appetizers! The service has been great every time and I didn't detect one ounce of attitude from the hostess as the other reviewers have claimed. I've never made a reservation and have never had to wait more than 10 min b/c I...
I was dissapointed with the value at Blowfish.
Their Dynamite Roll used a store bought "hot chile sauce" that left something to be desired.
The quality of fish seemed good, but definitely not enough. Pretty skimpy on the protions.
I know it's just sushi, but I spent $65 for 2 and left hungry.
Don't do if your hungry unless you want to spend plenty of $$$.
I dig it. Fresh fish and a fresher sound system. It's a phenomenon. Best Bincyo in town.
If you love anime and drum'n'bass music, want a place to hang out with friends and drink some sake, this place may be a good destination on Friday night. If you just want to taste some good fish, stay away. Their food is mediocre and comes at a high price.
Ok, it's trendy, but the food and service is actually quite nice. I expected a white washed sushi place that only served California rolls but got a relatively decent sushi place that was a fun experience.
I'd go here to spend some time hanging out with friends at the bar, eat dinner, and just enjoy the random scenery.. including anime on the television.
Not the most authentic place but they d...
I have to admit that the sushi was good. It was definitely overpriced. The restaurant decor was nice but, the staff a a bit snooty.
I was at Blowfish this past Sunday and had an amazing time. It's less crowded the music is great and the staff rocks!! Our server helped us through the menu pointing out the best dishes (try the Halibut Bouquet-- that's to die for!!) and let us in on some sake secrets. Everyone has their sushi favourites and Blowfish is mine!
I have the worst sushi in my whole life here at Blowfish. The sashimi and sushi rolls here are premade and not fresh. Stingy portion. Overpriced. Even the simple unagi roll (eel) is not good. The rolls smell fishy and texture rubbery. There're tons of sushi places in the city. Why pay more for this crap?
Delicious sushi. Highly recommended to sit at the sushi bar. The fish is fresh and the rolls are awesome, like the rainbow roll.
I have heard mixed reviews of Blowfish, but after trying it, I don't know why people don't go here all the time! Yes, it's a little more pricey than your average sushi joint, but I had sper delicious rolls. The asparagus tempura roll was great, and the spicy tuna roll was very tasty. I started with the seaweed salad which I still crave. Plus there is cool anime and music in the background! It's a...
It's a bit too lowd for me but the food is fantastic! The freshest and most creative sushi in the city.
hostess has attitude, sushi chefs are curt and unfriendly. decent food but for the quality, overpriced. decor is cold and cliched (concrete, steel, halogen lights), modern in an early-'90s way. this place is highly overrated and needs an overhaul big time. Tokyo A Go-Go is fresher, more inventive, and more welcoming.
I hate it when I read bad reviews of a place that is so good! The food is good. The atmosphere is great. And the people that work there are very nice. Anyone who says otherwise probably went in there with an attitude to begin with!
it is really not worth the rude host staff to eat at Blowfish. too cool for school, and reservations are a joke -- you'll still be waiting forever, and made to feel like scum.
Our dining expereince was poor although the food was decent. It's not worth the hype. Extremely busy, not great service, good music and the sushi is just OK. How can you mess up sushi?
Ok, I am not a seafood fan and this was my second time at Blowfish. I had a blast. Excellent food and drinks... The service couldn't be better. All the wait staff were very knowledgeable about the menu and help me and my girlfriend order just the right things. The dessert was awesome! I love the music and art on the walls. The atmosphere was very nice and I had a great date for the second time. H...
Can be overcrowded and noisy, but the music, anime and food make it a fun scene. Some unusal and tasty appetizers and sushi rolls. Not overpriced. Order take out and hang out at the bar taking in the scene and enjoy a saki cocktail while your order is prepared to go.
I have to admit that I enjoy the atmosphere: noisy, fun, edgy, hip. But the food is absolutely awful. Tiny portions, certainly not always fresh, and most definitely overpriced. I know not to trust someone's taste in food if they say this is their favorite sushi restaurant. There aren't alot of good ones in the city, and this is certainly near the bottom of the fifteen or so I've tried.
This place is a really great off the beaten path spot for a casual date, dinner with friends, parents, whatever... I love this place, their waitstaff is hot, food is great, ambiance is cool, it's always crowded and that should tell you something. I will have to say they can mix up the music a bit....It's no fine dining but what you see is what you get here. Casual, fun, and lot's to look at and e...
I have eaten at Blowfish numerous times the last few years, and always have a good time and eat wonderful sushi! Blowfish is not traditional sushi, which I also enjoy eating, and experienced first hand while living in Japan, but nonetheless the food is delicious. In fact, I have brought many visiting friends from Japan to Blowfish to eat, who consistantly love the restaurant, and leave with a Blo...
Been here once. It was very crowded. Reservations are recommended. Japanese anime playing on the television screens...
The sushi was really good...however, i feel a bit overpriced.
I have eaten sushi all over the city and this place continues to impress me. The sushi is always fresh and the service is usually friendly. This place can get a little crazy on the weekends but it's definitely worth the wait. The sake cocktails are great too!!! Can get a little expensive but ends up being worth it in the end. This place and Ebisu are the places to go for sushi in San Francis...
VERY dissapointed! Not only was the sushi mediocre, but the service was awful! I guess since I left my Gucci handbag at home, I didn't quite fit in. It your into this kind of scene, then this is the place for you. If you actually want to enjoy the food, go to Hamano, which is just down the way in Noe Valley.
This place started out great but has really fallen off over the last couple years. Service was very slow, and kitchen pacing was terrible. The restaurant wasn't busy and we still waited 20-30 in between items being brought out. And the food wasn't even as good as it was before. Sorry, never again!
I feel like I'm in an episode of Sex and the City whenever I go to Blowfish. Very trendy, very Manhattan! No flip-flops, Old Navy or picky eaters allowed. Never go without reservations and try their saki martinis!
While Blowfish serves sushi, I would not recommend it for that. The fish is fresh, but far too expensive. Nonetheless, Blowfish is a must visit as a pioneer of what I jerkily refer to as "Disco Sushi." More politely known as fusion sushi, it's a modern take on an old form. At this, Blowfish has no equal. The appetizers are unique and superb. Don't miss "The Punch," a mouth watering steak an...
Sushi to die for, how about die for calling this sushi. This place served me mashed potatoes with sushi. MASHED POTATOES. What kind of thing is that?! Please don't call it Californian fusion because that it was not. It was more like hometown buffet meets Mr. Chow. Well, maybe that's going a little over board. The sushi was okay. It was fresh, tasty, and pleasing to the eye. But served with ma...
Everytime that I visit Blowfish I have a great time. I always love the food. The suhsi is always very fresh and tasty. When you go there you should try the Ritsu Roll.
Good place if you're new to sushi. I'm amazed at how many newbies love this place. Must be the atmosphere, crazy roll names, or funny shapes they stack them into. This food is mediocre at best. Which is bad considering the prices. If you're stuck going here I reccomend the cooked rolls.
This joint is hot! I went last night for the first time as a first date spot. The atmosphere couldn't have been sexier, the drinks more sublime (give it up for PLUM sake!) and I was just-a-squigglin' in my seat because the music was off the hook! This is a great "first date" spot if you're not looking to be all serious and I would definitely go back for a second and third. Don't believe the ne...
awesome atmosphere, tantalizing drinks, and unbelievale sushi creations - go and have sushi like you've never had it before. Rocks!
Best sushi in SF by far! I can't wait to go back. The pyramid is especially tasty!
Blowfish is tucked away in the Potrero district behind warehouses and lonely streets, so it's easy enough to find parking. The decor is very funky, walls filled with animation and wooden tables cast under a red/orange glow.
The mango mojitos are to die for, but the sushi is not spectacular especially for the price. It's just good, solid sushi. Come for the ambiance and drinks. Be aware th...
Not all it is cracked up to be. Don't believe the hype. Pretty average - the cod of sushi joints but at beluga prices.
If you have party attitude in you, this is the place to go! Now if I can only hear the manga being played in the big screen.....
I recently visited Blowfish Sushi for the first time after hearing rave reviews for years and years... The truth, this place SUCKED! Since this is a review, I have to give my honest opinion & I wasn't at all impressed by this over-priced, delicacy-deficient, pretentious establishment. I went with three other people & our bill was over $170!! For crap food. I would never recommend this place to a ...
Great place to go for a good evening and interesting sushi. However, if you like tasting the fish in your rolls, you will find that it is often overpowered by the sauces.
Great staff, awesome sake cocktails, somewhat hip atmosphere but that's about it. Don't believe the hype...unless your idea of sushi is lots of rice, some raw fish and anything else goes as long as it sounds cool and funky. Most of the menu looks good on paper but the food is disappointing to the palette. The Pyramid of Tartar was all avocado and hardly any tartar and the accompanying potato chip...
It's pretty tough to find the superlative sushi place in a city just teeming with great places. But Blowfish is definitely good, a little on the pricey side, but good variety and quality. The service, however, is fantastic. I put my arm in my spicy tuna and got sauce all over my shirt. Immediately, without my even asking, there was a glass of club soda and a rag at my elbow.
It's the little t...
Great sushi and I didn't think the prices were any higher than any other sushi restaurant. Sushi is generally expensive and this place didn't seem any higher priced than others. The surprise was the wait. It's a good idea to make a reservation all of the time. They are even busy on Monday and Tuesday nights.
