BEYOND WORDS ! GASTRIC ORGASM! CHEESY .PLEASY ... SO GOOD YOU WILL SLAP YOUR MAMA ,YOUR MAMAS ,MAMA , AND YOUR DADDY....
Good pizza places seem to provoke ratings that are either excellent or terrible. I happen to think that Mineo's makes a great pizza in this neighborhood.
Of course, you have to enjoy lots of cheese and nice yeasty crust, plus fresh vegetables. Not everyone does. This is not a New York pizza nor is it an Italian one, or even a gourmet creation. Thank god it's not a British one. But hey, you know...
I admit it: I'm a flip-flopper!
In Pittsburgh there's been a debate for years about who has the best pizza in town. I used to be all about Aiello's, and it is good...but, I tried Mineo's again for the first time in years a few months ago, and now I'm hooked!
Cheesy, greasy, hot, great sauce -- everything a pizza should be. And, last time I was there I got two slices of cheese pizza and a...
I used to go to Mineos a lot, I thought the pizza was the best ever. Lately it has really gone down hill. I paid $28.00 for a burnt pizza!!! Never again. Recently I found a pizza shop in Sewickly, family owned, they make their own sausage, yum-yum. Their pizza is greatttt, a must try. Tony R's pizza, you will never be disappointed. Personally I will never go to Mineos again.
I checked this place out at the recommendation of numerous people on a quest to find a delicious pie in the burgh. Having grown up outside of New Haven, CT I was privileged to have a lot of excellent pizza options. Mineo's just does not live up to the billing. The fact that it has won so many awards is troubling. I am now worried about the quality of pizza I will most likely not be able to find i...
Great pizza! Excellant crust and the sauce will make you cream in your jeans. The only thing is I can't figure out the protocol for cleaning off your table. Do you do it yourself or do you leave the scrappings on the table..I don't know, but what I do know is this.. At least you do not have to rehash your order like most Pittsburgh eaterys.
The pizza is fantastic, the place smells and feels like the legendary pizza houses your dad talks about. Mineo's is right on Murray St. in Squirrel Hill. They put the cheese on top of the meat, which is sort of their signature. Order a pizza--you won't regret it.
and check out their other location in Mt. Lebanon, on Washington.
We visited Pittsburgh with friends last night, and after spending the afternoon "pubbing" in South Side, we returned to our hotel only to find the restaurant we really wanted to go to closed. Not wanting to venture out this late, we thought...PIZZA! The front desk staff recommended this place and another. We chose due to the 16" XL pizza for around $11.00. This pizza was excellent. I think y...
I had a terrible experience at this restaurant. I had never eating pizza from this place and i wanted to try something new. I found their number online and called to place an order. I was very clear on my order and when i went to pick up the pizza, it was wrong and they charged me 21.00 for six pieces of pizza. Honest mistake i thought to myself. When i explained this to the clerk he became ...
For years I was told to buy my pizza at Mineo's. It's the best, you can't beat it, nothing better, top rates for years by the hometown mag...Enough already! So I went. We ordered 3 different pies, one plain, one with pepperoni, and one with pep/mush/sausage. All three were very dry, yet greasy. In other words, the grease, cheese and toppings slid off the pizza and all over my hands. I taste...
The pizza is wonderfully greasy and cheesy like a pizza should be. Crust could have more flavor, but at 1 am on a Friday or Saturday, it is the best hands down.
Lots of people told me that I HAD to goto Mineo when in Pittsburgh. I was excited to go, and when I got there I felt like I was home (NYC). Then the pizza came out and I realized that I was in the country. THIS is what everyone was raving about?!?!?! YES, there is lots of cheese and the cheese is good- greasy but good. My guess is like everyone else, that there is some mozz and some provolone mix...
What can I say I have been going to mineos as long as I can remember. The only thing that changed is prices raising over time. ( which happens with everything) anyway, mineos has oil coming off it but thats the best part especially when you put some garlic on it and top it off with a ice tea in a carton like most of my fellow ( greenfield people).I highly suggest mineos ( at least once)
Pizza Lovers, pay close attention. I happen to write food article reviews for a local Pgh paper. Mineo's, claims to have the #1 Pizza in the burgh. Not sure how in the hell they achieved that rating as they are anything but. Trust me, the only way they would be able to garner a #1 Rating legally is they must be paying for it. To be sure, I went to this establishment last week to prove or disprove...
The pizza here is well-acclaimed, and it's understandable. But I found the sauce too sweet for my liking and take-out somewhat precarious because the toppings tend to slide around while the pizza is still hot. The service is courteous and quick, and the decor has a nice neighborhood feel. This is worth a try as a benchmark for comparison.
Take your Lipitor or Zocor before you come here, because the cheese is piled on with a lavish hand. And what cheese! Gooey, saly and strong, with more than a hint of sheep's-milk cheese (romano? provolone?) in it. Excellent meaty sausage, coarse-textured and laced with fennel seed, is hidden under the winter blanket of cheese. The sauce is, by contrast, mild. There is only a hint of oregano to mo...
My dad started off taking me here because he and his friends used to go when it was just a hole in the wall (not that it's much more now). I'm yet to find a pizza as good as Mineos. They've come close, but it really is the best I've ever had. The cheese just MAKES the pizza, no doubt. And I find it a complete joke when people say their favorite pizza is Pizza Hut or Papa Johns. Get out to Mi...
I don't see how anyone would think these guys are the best in the city. Pizza is one of the few things I dine out for since I have yet to perfect it at home. Mineo's looked and tasted exactly like my homemade recipe, which isn't bad, but certainly not worth going out for.
Maybe I've just had bad luck, considering that I grew up in Bloomfield and everyone says how great Mineo's is, but I've been disappointed by this place. I've tried the pizza here a few times with my friends and we've been pretty well turned off to eating here again. It's hard to pinpoint, but there is a strange tase to the pizza here, some kind of sour taste. No big deal though, a lot of peop...
No question...anyone who knows anything about pizza, realizes that Mineo's uses the freshest and the best ingredients in their pizza, and they do not skimp on the toppings. I have yet to find a pizza to equal its quality, and have patronized Mineo's since 1969. Why go anywhere else?
This pizza is delicious. It needs a fork to be eaten at times the chesss is so thick but it is still amazing pizza. Its worth the trip into rush hour traffic on the parkway to get it.
Mineo's is a great value and very inexpensive (you can leave STUFFED for around $3.50). However, the cheese on its pizza is a little too much for many. Great Veggies, but if you don't like a lot of thick cheeze, stay away!
We have enjoyed Mineo's pizza for more than 40 years. It is simply the best pizza.
I am not kidding! I have lived all over this country. They can't figure out what Pizza should taste like in the MidWest and further west. NY is good Pizza. Mineos is a Island of perfection standing out for the whole country to taste. It does not get any better! Strong Cheese flavor. They use a blend of Ramono. Wounderful tangy sauce, that does not overpower the combined flavor. Crispy cr...
We are from W. PA and have family in Du Bois and the N Hills but live in Elkridge. MD. Often we get pizza at Mineo's upon our vist to the 'burgh. My family had a Pizza shop in Reynoldsville for a decade. I understand quality and Mineo's it all! Taste, freshness, excellent ingredents, satisfaction. We eat it cold and we buy extra to take back to MD.My sister-in law Ruth Ann loves it! Primo Pizza ...
Sorry mineos.... but I have to say that I don't really enjoy eating this pizza. The toppings/ingredients seem to be fresh, but the pizza just has no taste. The sauce is quite bland. It is also hard to eat... the cheese is so solid that it slides right off the slice leaving me with, well, bland sauce and crust. This pizza is also fairly greasy. One thing that mineos has going for them is t...
This pizza is totally awesome. I would travel around the world for Mineo's pizza as well as a chance to hang out with the Mineo brothers! These guys are great and they are very customer oriented-true "people" guys!
Close or far away, any drive is worth it for Mineo's!
People Of Earth...
Understand this, Mineo's Pizza House rules the pizza universe. It starts with the perfect homemade crust, continues with the deliciously crafted sauce, followed by the highest quality blended imported cheese, and then just the freshest most bountiful toppings (if you like). This is the one-and-only, the pie that has stood the test of time and is consistently rated the best...
Has anyone else noticed that quite a number of the people who don't think this pizza is good, have listed in their cons that there is NO BEER? I suppose it's true some people can't enjoy themselves without alcohol. Think about it.
I remember as a child going to pick up pizza at Mineo's, and when we moved away my father would bring home pizza from Mineo's when he made a trip to Pittsburgh.
...
okay, there are 2 other pizza shops within 500 feet of this dump and both are far better. There are easily 20 other pizza shops in this city better than mineos. Hell, Sheetz pizza gives mineos a run for its money. I dont know what you people are drinking, mineos pizza is a completely unremarkable, greasy mess.
We make the 1 hour drive every other week to feast on this pizza. It is by far the best pizza we ever ate in the US. We always get the pizza with the pepperoni top. The rustic crust is awesome and the sauce is perfect but what ,akes this pizza is the cheese. The cheese is absolutely out of this world.
Whenever we get a pizza from anywhere else we compare it to Mineos and 99% of the time the...
I grew up on the stuff! The pizza is excellent, hands down. I now live in LA and there is nothing out here anything like Mineo's. I get back to PGH every other year and always go to Mineo's. I bring my children there as well. You know, their subs are great too! This is a must stop on your way home to watch the Steeler games.
This is a local favorite. The pizza is excellent. The Bacon Pizza has more bacon than a BLT sandwich. The crust is very tasty and firm. Excellent sauce. Lots of cheese, no real need for double cheese. A great place for lunch. Take out is the preferred method for this restaurant. It is self service, no wait staff. But the pizza is well worth the trip. Not a real place for "sit down dinin...
Mineo's is the best pizza I've ever had. The atmosphere is casual and caters to those who just want to sit and eat, no fancy stuff.
Best pizza in the 'burgh?! Are you insane? The only people who go there are Squirrel Hill residents who never leave their neighborhood anyway. The pizza is oily and of the same quality as any chain. That crap is an insult to Italian Americans.
this pizza is just plain. the vegetables were not even under melted cheese-they just put them on afterward. i would not recomend this place. go to Pizza Amir down the street on Forward avenue and try the fava bean pizza-its much better.
I live in Los Angeles and I still had Mineos pizza last night for dinner!! My boyfriend was in our hometown last week and managed to order THREE mineos pies (half cooked) and bring them onto the plane!! Now, we have authentic Mineos in the freezer for months!! I have to say that you just can not find that Pittsburgh taste anywhere in LA. It is seriously that good....
Exceptionally good pizza. Good dough, exceptional cheese and sauce. White pizza is out of this world, especially if you like garlic. Best in Pittsburgh; almost up with Uno's in Chicago and much better than Uno franchises.
Okay for Americanized Pizza. This place thinks it's the ruling neighborhood pizzeria, and the service is not great.
Overall decent tasting pizza but it's heavy and expensive. I'm not sure it deserves all the hype surrounding it.
My first slice of pizza while in Pittsburgh was at Mineo's, and I'll never eat pizza from another place in the city! Wonderful service and delicious pizza make for an enjoyable meal.
Best pizza, hard to find parking, although gets very congested inside
extras are piled on sausage is the best sauce is
good the pizza is very filling
Mineo's pizza has the best combination of delicious sauce and hearty toppings.
Mineo's Pizza House, located on Murray Avenue in Squirrel Hill and Washington Road in Mount Lebanon, has the best, most delicious pizza anywhere. The cheese is perfect, and has a soft, smooth, chewy texture and a salty taste. The sauce is nicely spiced. Our family's favorite combination is half pepperoni and half extra cheese. You should also try the White Pizza, which is superb.
This is excellent pizza. The sauce has some zest and the cheese topping is generous and is a good blend. Mushrooms are put on before cheese for a little different touch.
although mineos pizza creates a compelling looking pizza the taste of italy or for that matter newyork is certainly lacking. If you just go up the street the best pizza in that part of town is Milky Way by the slice a true italian kosher creation.
I absolutely LUV mineo's pizza!!! my dad used to eat there when he was growing up and then a few years ago he introduced it to me and i was amazed that any pizza could be that good!! i don't think i'd be able to live without it!! mmm, mmm, yummy!
The number two choice, Vincents Pizza, is by far the best in Pittsburgh. The location maybe out of the way and not in the city, but Vincent has the best pizza around town. Mineo's doesn't have it on Vincent. Mineo's quality of additive choice is not up to par. Vincent's Pizza Park in Forest Hills/North Bradock is outstanding.
Something about their pizza makes you need to half to drink a gallon of water after justone slice. Great pizza if you're a camel.
I have been going to Pizza houses all over the city of Pittsburgh for 10 years and Mineos is definatley the best pizza ever. It is so good it melts your knife and fork. The pizza is also very filling and is hard to eat a whole pie i started off in my lightweight years only being able to eat two pieces but through time and hunger am able to hang with the best of my family. I think they should have...
I grew up with a lot of guys that don't live in Pittsburgh any more. Each year though, all of the out of towners come back for a guys weekend. One of the highlites every year is the trip back to Mineo's. From Boston to Chicago to Houston to San Francisco, they all agree no one comes close to Mineo's. They leave the weekend with frozen Mineo's pizzas to take a taste of Pittsburgh back with them.
The atmosphere is pleasant but the pizza isn't great at all. The crust is hard to bite through and the cheese is too gooey at first and then later becomes unbearably hard. If you like pizza that way then go for it, but as for me I will call Papa... Papa John's that is...
When I first moved to the city...I ended up going on date with someone from Squirrel Hill. They of course introduced me to the best pizza in the burgh. There is none that equals the taste...or the texture...what an oral delight.
simply the best. Delicious loaded up and don't forget the artichokes!
Its the best . If you can only have One slice of any pizza, It must be MINEOS !!!!!
I have been going to Mineo's, since I arrived in Pittsburgh in 1988. The Pie's made here are world caliper, my favorite is the White Pizza, which has a aromatic garlic flavor. The ambience is great!
I first lived in Sewickley, and used to make, the one hour trip, weekly, to Squirrel Hill.
I now live in the city, and it takes much less time,
to get to the Best of the Burgh's Pizza House
I will admit I am addicted to Mineo's pizza. But I am not alone. The pizza has been a favorite of mine since my very first slice. I went to Allderdice which is right up the street and often enjoyed cutting class to come down and grab a slice or two. I love them now even more since they have added the new generation of workers. It brings the young feeling back into Mineo's. Plus most of the worker...
i would have to say mineo's is the second best pizza in pittsburgh behind vincent's pizza park. i have eaten at mineo's many times and go to mineo's more than vincent's simply because it is closer. the pizza's here are generally great, but i have had a bad pizza here now and then. one time i ordered a pepperoni pizza and it seemed they just took a cheese pizza somebody ordered and never picked up...
The pies are something you need to live. Part of the "P" foods, Pizza, popcorn, potato chips, Pasta, pretzels and pork. You the best pizza at Mineo's and the rest of the "P" foods come later.
Mineo's serves the best pizza I have ever had. I still make a special trip to Mineo's whenever I am in Pgh because I have never found another pizza that was close to their equal.
What can you say about the pizza at this place...it's the best in the city...heck, it may be the best in the country. By leaps-and-bounds the best pizza I have ever had!!!
Mineo's is the best in town. Infact I think it might be the best pizza in the mid-atlantic (that means you pittsburgher's). At times it can be a little salty, but over all it's the best in town. Though it is a littel pricy. For a large with two toppings, delivered, and with tip can run you $16.00. But for a treat, it's worth it.
The only draw back is that it is not close to where I live
you betcha, the rockstar knows it, you know it, pittsburgh knows it
