I got a great hair cut at Shortys from Gilbert. I'm generally not very good at describing how I want my haircut, and Gilbert had never cut my hair before, so I was a little unsure of how this was gonna go- he seemed to understand what I was looking for (even with my minimal directions/instructions) and gave me a cut that was just right for me. I was pleasantly surprised and will definately ...
I've been getting great haircuts from Gilbert for a while now. This week two people asked me who cut my hair (in a positive way!) I think that's pretty cool, right? Time to write a review!
So...You can make an appointment with him- he's always been right on time for me- haircut takes about 30 minutes- cost: $30 bucks- obviously solid work and he brings the good, chill, energy.

I've lived in LA for just over a year and I've yet to find a good spot to get a haircut. I finally went to Shorty's and got a great haircut from a great stylist. The atmosphere is very cool and coming to Shorty's is more of an experience rather than just getting a haircut.
I've seen some people post on here that they have no idea how this place could get so many good reviews.
I have mixed reviews myself, but it really depends on who cuts your hair.
There are two heavy-set girls that work at Shorty's. I don't know what their names are, but one can only be described as looking like Mimi from the Drew Carey Show (way too much makeup, and yes, I know I'm now goi...
My barber at Shortys (calming Gilbert) has saved me from myself, and my misguided ideas of what my hair should be doing?. or is it more like what my hair shouldn?t be doing? In any case I was a lost soul that had never quite been the master of my own hairstyle. Gilbert just broke it down for me in a real simple manner, never making it more complicated than it needed to be. As he said- ?don?...
My friend and I randomly walked in, and we were taken care of right away. Ryane listened to what we wanted and did an excellent job.
Your hair is super important and Ryane is the gal to go to! She's artistic, friendly, super cute, and you know you can trust her! She also was very complimentary to her co-worker, Trent, who I also read good reviews about.
I'm hooked! Keep up the good w...
If you are looking for an experienced stylist to get it right the first time, see my man Chris R. He's a class act and treats you like you need to be treated. Besides being hooked by his charming smile and winner personality, you will enjoy your time in his chair. Whether it's a high and tight or close and edgy, this Shorty's professional will do it right every time.
I have no idea were to start. I received a hair cut from the most inexperienced person possible. While in the process of cutting my hair, she was pretty much asking how to cut it. You would think being someone who works here would know how to cut hair. If your an inexperienced hair stylist, this is the place to apply for a job. You could get a better hair cut at Super Cuts. If Shorty's really car...
Ask for Jessica. She spent time making sure I got the right haircut, was very thorough and a nice person. I got a $50+ looking haircut for $23.
Gilbert makes my big crazy asian hair seem (as he puts it)- "intentional". If you have this kind of hair you know what I'm talking about- it's probably always gonna be big crazy hair, but now it looks like it's on purpose! Who knew?! Lol. Thanks Gil!
I've gone to 3 different guys here and they're all great. My favorite guy, though, is Max. The service is quick, and the staff is personable. Most importantly, the cuts have been excellent. I used to go to an expensive stylist in Beverly Hills, but Shorty's is so convenient and so much less for the same quality. They take cash or credit, unlike other shops nearby, and I always leave feeling like ...
Earl is the best men's cutter there is...hes worth traveling for and Shorty's is a great shop with a cool atmosphere. The whole crew at shorty's is fun and it is a circus worth watching...great people. Enjoy.
I always get Earl to cut my hair and make me look human again every time I am in town. He has an amazing ability to know what I want without me telling him! Definitely a miracle worker and definitely worth flying to LA for. I recommend him to anyone who needs a great cut and general manscape! The store is also a barrel of laughs, never a dull moment.
Hi my name is Miles and I am one of the stylist at Shortys.I wanted to introduce myself, and talk a little about exactly what services I do . I am a cosmetologist not a barber, i have been in the buisness for 26 years.I pay attention to detail, I do gerat color services for men and women,I do relaxcers, great finishing work ,very good with the flat iorn.I enjoy everything from to conservative to p...
I go here to just get my hair cut. No wash, no dry and haven't been disappointed with my cut yet. They will do everything from colouring to highlights, etc... but for my $20 something I walk out very happy.
My fiance needed to get a haircut. He has curly hair, so it requires skills to cut his hair. I found Shorty's to have good review on citysearch, so I told him about it. I called ahead to put his name on the list and told the person on the phone that we needed someone who was good with cutting curly hair for men. When we got there, they gave him Maria, who is a really sweet 23-year-old girl, b...
I've had one short experience at shorty's but well worth my time is an understatement. i signed up with citysearch for one reason and one reason only; to praise the stylings of one Mr. Travis. I walked in with hair that remained untouched by professional hands for about a year. The choice wasn't made out of desperation, rather a string of bad hair-cuts. I came in off a referral from someone who h...
I recently read a bad review of Shorty's (among the many good ones). And I must say I've had both good and neutral experiences -- all depending on the stylist you get.
I too have specific things I want for my hair, and often people (anywhere) don't seem to pay attention or be capable of reading your mind and tailoring to what you need.
But, there is a solution: Kristie Herndon (five s...
Wow--where have all those 5 stars come from? Tried this place because my regular guy seem to be slacking off a little--now I'm going back to him. Went to Shorty's based on this site and took my passport
photo--the cut was nothing like it and took 4 weeks to grow back so I could get a decent haircut. Maybe I
just got the worst cutter there, but I won't take the chance again.
There's rarely much of a wait and it's just a cool, chill scene without any attitude. Sort of rocker and comfortable. Miles gave me a good cut-- very attentive to detail.
I saw a stylist named Ashley yesterday and she was amazing! The place is fantastic, chill and unpretentious and quite a bargain. I asked for a clean cut, conservative, but not too conservative (I work in a rather conservative environment) and voila! I love it! Slightly edgy, but still classic in shape. It's a no nonsense salon. I love that. I've been looking for a good stylist in LA that w...
I went here after reading the near-unanimous praise heaped upon it here and was sorely disappointed.
I asked for something simple: for a trim and to keep the same style. I explained the two ways I wear my hair-- one for work, another for play-- and even gave a demonstration. I even said how that result has been achieved by previous stylists, by texturing and varying the length in certain pla...
came here yesterday for the first time, wanting a big change with my hair. I called ahead asking for someone who could do bangs and was told they had just the person. got to shorty's, had to wait a little bit but the wait was worth it. Michelle was my stylist. I told her i wanted bangs, and she took it above and beyond and I ended up with the cutest cut I've ever got. She totally didn't try to up...
I love this place! It has not only the best stylists, colorists and receptionists! It has a great location, look, feel, environment, reputation and hot owner!
I totally recommend going here!
Kristie is a rock star. Love this girl - great haircut EVERYTIME. Used to spend $100 or more for a cut at places around WeHo, but her cuts are better and 1/4 the price. She totally listens to what you want and does that, or if you don't know, has made some great and fun suggestions.
I stopped by as a walk in for a hopeful quick trim and ended up staying for highlights too! I didn't know they did color but Michelle gave me the greatest haircut and did an amazing job on my highlights! I'll definitely go back!! Shorty's is a great place for men and woman, hair cuts and styles of all sorts!
I'm new to town and was completely lost picking a new salon. So many pompous overpriced salons around LA! But I walked past Shortys one day - was the only girl in there too - and asked for a cut. I was sent to Paul and I am so so glad I was! He gave a wonderful cut, it grew out beautifully. He's professional and gets down to the business of cutting your hair rather than chatting endlessly. I can ...
I'm new to LA and needed a cut pretty bad. Not that my hair was super long, because it was by most people's standards pretty short, but it just lacked any discernable shape or style. I kind of looked like a Lego man. But I digress, I went to Shorty's because of the reviews here and I'm very glad I did.
My stylist was Michelle, and she was fantastic. Being a guy with very little idea about what ...
Got a great walk-in haircut on a Friday from Michelle. She completed a men's scissor-cut in less than 20 minutes and didn't even threaten to use clippers on the back and sides. For $20 you really cannot beat this level of quality and speed. Parking on Willoughby is not permit, so need need to pay for a meter either.
This place lives up to the vibe of being comfortable and affordable with a funky shop that fits anyone's personality. The other thing is that you can get in and out quickly and get on with your day. Other shops of interest are just steps away. Ask for MAX, he gives great cut.
I snuck in here wearing a pair of Gap jeans, some worn down D&G boots with a ratty t-shirt, figuring I?d get no love, I was SO wrong. I left feeling cute, fresh and happy - a bargain for $20!
I met Cherie, a very cool inked skater girl who whipped my head into shape in no time flat. One of the only stylists I?ve ever met who I had a blast chatting with the whole time I was getting my hair cu...
Just walked in for a quick trim and Kristie totally hooked me up! The place has a great vibe and fun atmosphere! She gave me a great cut and it was very inexpensive! Best Value in Los Angeles!!!
I stumbled across Shorty's when I first moved to LA about 4 years ago. I have never been that into my hair but now I won't go anywhere else... Earl ROCKS!!!!
I went to Shorty's the other day, because my boyfriend goes there and recomended it. I loved the atmosphere: cool 80's music pumpin (U2 was playing), very urban industrial design, and EXTREMELY unprentious. I felt relaxed right away. I wasn't sure they did women's hair, but was I BLOWN AWAY from my experience. My stylist was Michael Colletti, a guy from Chicago, very good looking, VERY NICE, very...
I'm probably an easy haircut as I'm not too particular, but that's fine for this place. Shorty's looks like a garage, on purpose, and the casual atmosphere extends to the greet staff as well as my favorite stylist. Good, standard haircut place for me. And they're cute too.
Decided to check out Shorty's because of the word-of-mouth I'd been privy to, and I wasn't disappointed at all! I made an appointment, got there, needing a color, highlights, lowlights and a cut, and was promptly seen by Cherie. She was awesome...we tackled the color first, and she was quick to point out how much she liked my natural lowlights, and that it would simply be a waste of money to AD...
Walked in the door of Shorty's after having my boyfriend tell me to get it my hair fixed after I had been to another salon. I was asked if any particular stylist, I didn't know anyone, so I was greeted by Paul, great experience, he knew exaclty what to do since I am helpless at my own hair. He even told me how I could get it to work every morning very simply. Great cut. Great Experience. PAUL'S ...
I needed a trim today desperately...but didn't want to spend 80 bucks or more on it. I just need the dead ends yanked off the bottom. So, I looked on Citysearch and found Shorty's,...not too far from home, so I called and the nice gal on the phone told me that a couple of people were good at ladies hair and Trey happened to be working today and in I went. Well, I am really really really really...
So, I have that Asian hair that can be a challenge for a lot of haircutters in the Hollywood/West Hollywood area. Gilbert B. hooked it up. Knew just what to do. It's rock & roll, it's fresh, it's tight. I honestly havent liked a haircut this much in a long time. I can definately recomend this barber/stylist. You can make appointments with him in advance too which is cool cause I dont like to wait...
Okay, so I have to agree with another post regarding Gilbert. After moving to L.A. 5 years ago, I trolled the basin for my new hair cut person at countless salon's and barbershops. After a friend recommended Shorty's, I was amazed. Gilbert knew exactly what to do and how to work with my hair, and I consistently walk out feeling confident and knowing that my hair looks great. The atmosphere is fun...
I MUST SAY I HAVE THE BEST BARBER!!! GILBERT IS THE MAN. I HAVE VERY DIFFICULT HAIR TO CUT SEEMS NO ONE COULD GET IT RITE FROM THE $8 SHOPS TO THE $ 50 SHOPS. I WALKED INTO SHORTY'S AND ASKED FOR A SENIOR STYLIST AND GOT AN APPOINTMENT WITH GILBERT. SAT DOWN AND WAS A LIL' NERVOUS AND HE PUT ME AT EASE! THE CUT CAME OUT PERFECT!!! THANKS TO GILBERT I HAVE AWESOME HAIR!!!!
Hi all!!!
This is the place to get your haircut at. Nice and happening place.
My cut was done by Lena, and she is a "BOMB". Busty, cute, Russian girl that makes it all come together. People are great and the athmosphere is lively and friendly. Thanks for a wonderful experience. I will be coming back again. Recommend to all, boys and girls.
Love you all
Peace.
I've had the rest and SHORTY's is THE BEST! After spending small fortunes at other, supposedly high end facilities (from exclusive, one chair, private, appointments-3-months-in-advance operations to the best in Beverly Hills) I've found my home at SHORTY's...Do the "DO" and ask for DEE..... she is awesome! Precision cuts and reasonable prices - free yourself from Freudian delusions of BIGGER B...
This is an awesome place. It's always hard to find a hair stylist that you can count on in a big city and skimming the ads on citysearch isn't always the easiest way to find someone. But if you have the time and nothing to do, you may be lucky enough to stumble on a find like Shorty's. A totally hip, rocker spot a little north of the Melrose strip, metered parking is available. I called ahead...
I have been going to Kristy for about 2 years now and always am happy with my cut. The cut always grows out well and I am always getting compliments on my hair. It is a very cool unpretensious atmosphere! Check it out!
In sum, Kristie gave me an excellent cut, one of the best I've ever had. I usually stay home with a shaver and just buzz it with a #3, but this time I wanted to look good for an interview. I seriously didn't think there was much anyone could do with my lack of hair, but Kristie turned a #3 buzz into an actual hairstyle, one that my wife loved, and my 2 1/2 year old son keeps commenting on, "Nic...
So being a saavy girl from LA, I was a little hesitant to go to what I thought was a "barbershop" with more of a testosterone slant. Boy, was I pleasantly surprised. I saw Travis, (my new best friend) and he definitely gave the "Beverly Hills" type of salons a run for their money (for a fraction of what I'm used to spending, mind you). I will never go anywhere else again! I'm hooked and tell ...
I love this place. cool. hip. trendy. very DIVERSE. I love my girl Emma. She gives me the best haircut... she's a true artist! My boyfrield loves Caesar's cuts. Anyone you go to will let you have it with a fierce haircut though. 20-25 dollars and a very cool environment!
I couldn't speak highly enough of Shorty's. They're courteous and professional and do a hell of a job with yer mop. Plus, they tell me you can't beat the price in West Hollywood, and I'm beginning to agree. Open late!
I went to Shorty's on recommendation from a friend after many bad cuts at the local Supercuts. Without knowing who to ask for I took the "first availble stylist". The place is very funky and cool - but clean. My stylist was very polite and after a brief description of what I wanted, gave me a cut that was more than I expected and the price was GREAT! Much better than your sterile experience a...
After spending some time on Citysearch looking at various barber/salon ratings I finally decided to give Shorty's a try (mainly because of the $18 haircuts and the fact that the Fairfax location is literally four blocks from my apartment).
I called ahead to put my name on a list but was told that there wasn't much of a wait today. Upon arriving to the shop I was immediately seen by Cherie. ...
Don't let the avante-garde, psycho-sexual aesthetic throw you off. The staff at Shorty's is serious about delivering you a perfectly coifed head of hair for a mere 18 dollars. Come back often, tip generously, and be a Chatty Cathy with your stylist and you will be treated like platinum. I particularly like Gilbert for his attention to detail and sparkling pharmaceutical personality, but I have...
Full disclosure: I'm a guy with not particularly tough hair to cut. With that said, I've suffered through years of inconsistent haircuts from FS and Supercuts. Sometimes good, sometimes not. I never thought a guy's haircut mattered that much until I went here. The staff is young, hip, and veeeerrry Melrose. Giving them the same instructions I gave the other places, they get my hair to not only lo...
This place was great!! They just moved to a new location down the street from the old one. Now they are at 755 N. Fairfax Ave. In a much bigger and hipper place. I was able to get the best cut of my life and the atmosphere it the greatest. The must is was great and the vibe was friendly. Best of all a haircut is only $18. Would go again and again.
A friend recommended Shorty's and I am grateful. After doing Fantastic Sams-like places forever but never finding a good stylist and being wary of paying someone $40 to cut my short hair, this place is a find. $16 is what they charge and the stylists actually know what they're doing. Shorty's just found a regular customer. I went on a Sunday afternoon and had no wait at all.
I love this place! It is funky and the stylists are cutting edge. Once you walk into the place you'll know this is not your everyday barber shop. Graffiti on the walls, club music and great energy. Be prepared for a bit of a wait, they don't take appointments. If you know who you want to see you can call ahead and get put on a list.
