Great experience A group of friends decided to go to the Sugar Bar. We've heard great things about the place so we picked the venue to celebrate a reunion. WE had an AMAZING EXPERIENCE. Everything went perfectly well. The staff was very polite and courteous,
The food came out on time and was very delicious and the music was just perfect. They had a latin jazz artist called Paul Peress. I had the crab stuffed ... Read More On Citysearchnelsonwalker 10/31/2009
I LOVE THE NEW SUGAR BAR! I like the new Sugar Bar. I am extremely glad they finally decided to also change the menu. They are featuring cooler artists and the whole venue has a new vibe. It was hard at first to see all these new faces but I think that management is doing a good job at improving the venue in general. They have this Jumbo Shrimp that are to die for. Open mic night seems to have turned into a night of stars... Read More On CitysearchCitysearch User 10/29/2009
I love the Sugar Bar I've heard great things about the Sugar Bar from friends that came to the venue few months ago. I currently live in CA and I decided to come check it out while visiting NYC. I had such a great experience at the venue that I will make it a point to come to the Sugar Bar anytime I am in NYC. We had a great time. The food was great, they had a great band playing and the people are just wonderful. W... Read More On CitysearchVanessaMichel 8/11/2009
Unhappy Delta No chef Pierre, No Cream, No Brian? Everything I loved about this place is now different. The food, the people, and even the shows! I emailed to ask if a show on their website called creme dela creme was the same as the Cream show and never got a response. I went to the show and not only was it not the same show but the food has fallen off (and I was charged). I asked and I was told there is a ne... Read More On CitysearchCitysearch User 6/22/2009
Hated It I went to Sugar Bar a few years ago and it left a bad taste in my mouth - not the food, the service. The waitstaff weren't plesant, and one even brought the paid bill back to the table which was close to $200 because he didnt like the tip. I forgave that last visit because I wanted to like this place, so I went again last week. It's now confirmed - I HATE THIS PLACE!
The front door girls were no... Read More On Citysearchmbaltazar77 6/5/2009
keep looking elsewhere 1)Let's begin with our entrance. The cover was $10 each which wasn't earlier described but ok. Then the front door girl ( a light skinned) assigned our table from a reservationplaced earlier. We then asked if the dinner table would be where we could view the stage after paying the cover, she informed "Yes". Well upon sitting at the table it was clear that there was no way of eating dinner or havi... Read More On Citysearchcrasshh 5/30/2009
UWS GEM Where should I start? I absolutely love Ashford and Simpson's Sugar Bar. I've been to the venue several times and for different occasions and although sometimes it can be very crowded, the ambiance in the place is unbelievable. Good food, good drinks, great music and wonderful people...You can't ask for more. Open mic is definitely a great night at the venue however I've seen some great Jazz arti... Great show, great food, great service! A friend and I went to Sugar Bar the other night for a show, and everything was amazing! The host and the artists were great. We also ate dinner and the food was delicious. Although there was a show going on, there was no delay with our food, and the entire staff was very attentive. If you are looking for a cool place to catch a show, have a drink, have dinner - go to Sugar Bar! Definitely romant... Read More On CitysearchMhNYC36 10/6/2008
What a venue!!!!!! Ashford and Simpson's Sugar Bar was recommended to me by a close friend of mine that has been raving about it. I've decided to give it shot and book the venue for my 30th birthday. I had a liittle concerned that because of the large number of guests that was attending that it may not be well coordinated. I am also very picky though. From the second I've called to the day of my party, I was taken... Read More On Citysearcharodriguez1978 10/3/2008
Great Place It's a really great place to chill with friends at the bar. We went there last week to celebrate my new job. The staff was accommodating. The food was good. We were there during afterwork hours so it wasn't so loud that we couldn't talk to each other. We were disappointed that there weren't any happy hour specials. I recommend this place and I will go back often, Read More On Citysearchzenjen 9/30/2008
Great place! Some friends and I visited NYC this weekend. We went to the Sugar Bar on 7/11/08. We made reservations, so we didn't have a wait. The food was awesome! The entertaiment was spectacular! The only issue that we had, was once the place started to get crowded, we barely saw our wait staff. Other than that. I really recommend checking it out. The las chuletas are to die for! Also try the sugar tini. I... Read More On Citysearchsassysweetie1920 7/14/2008
Service has gone from "Bad" to "Abysmal" The food at Sugar Bar is EXCELLENT. The issue is that you have to climb mountains to get to it. The servers seem to be under the impression that they're doing you a favor to stop at your table, and it is frequently a battle to get basics such as a menu, water, or your first drink if you don't bring it with you from the bar (and if you're trying to order during a live show, forget it; it's not ... What a great venue I went to Ashford and Simpson's Sugar bar to celebrate my birthday. We had quite a large party (a little over 50) and the venue accommodated us better than we could have ever imagined. Our guest were very well greeted by the staff and were seated immediately. The service was amazing and the food was to die for. I was very demanding and the manger (Steve Abreu) was such a breeze to work with. He m... Read More On Citysearchanitaa1976 5/16/2008
cozy spot for a date i was just there on a friday night in oct. on a date and we liked the place. The staff was attentive without being at my table every 2 mins., the food was good and since we got there early, we were able to have quiet conversation without being side by side with full tables. Place must be a bit cramped though when full and bar area is small so it may get noisy but we would consider coming back but... Read More On Citysearchdaisytcam 10/29/2007
Soooo Disappointed... To sum it up, disappointed. My family went there to celebrate my father's 71st birthday. Beforehand, reservations were made for 5 and we were not told of a $10 cover charge due to an unheard of band. We were told that once we were seated and politely asked if that could be waived being that we weren't there to hear a band and already paid a $2 coat check charge each.
The hostess spoke to th... Read More On Citysearchcovagirl8 1/17/2007
The host on Saturday for the lounge was very unfriendly and demanding My friend and I wanted to go to the Sugar Bar on Saturday December 30, 2006. We wanted to go in and have couple of drinks, so we asked the very nice hotess if we could look around before we go to the bar.
She said sure and we were getting ready to just peek in, when a man who was very rude came out tof the lounge and said it was $10.00 to get in. We said we did not mind paying, if we could just ... Read More On Citysearchharlem_hottie 1/2/2007
Hip Spot! My friends and I stopped into Sugar last week to basically see what all the talk was about. Heard that it was one of the best places to see live music and we were very impressed with the setup they've got there. Such a low key place with plenty of celebrity eye candy splashed here and there. We went on a Tuesday when they had a jazz band playing. The music was great and so was the food. Def... Poor Service The food was excellent (except the fried shrimp appetizer - it was overcooked). The atmosphere was nice in the front room, but despite a reservation, we were relegated to the rear, where we were treated like stepchildren - we had to flag someone down to take our order, water with no ice, we had to ask for extras (as opposed to someone asking if we needed something else). And, after all that, the... Read More On Citysearchtaramac 2/23/2006
User review by alandjones On the whole a fairly good experience. Everyone's entree was good and the music was very well done. A good feel to the place was definitely in effect. The only negative that I can relate is that the appitizers were a bit over priced for what you get. So, perhaps not exceptional food for NYC, but certainly exceptional food when compared to other mixed venues (dinner menu & live music) you're li... Read More On Citysearchalandjones 12/16/2005
A Great Restaurant & Party for 1 price My Husband & I went to the Sugar Bar on our Anniversary. We were seated promptly by a lovely polite Hostess. The cozy ambiance is extremely beautiful. It's like taking an exotic vacation This place surprised me. As soon as you walk in, the decor transports you! The place is a little tight, but wonderfully decorated. Ashford & Simpson have created the best celebrity owned restaurant, I have been too. The service was very good, but best of all, the food was delicious. Everyone in our party of 8 enjoyed everything ( and I mean EVERYTHING) on their plates. We were very quiet fo... Read More On Citysearchsreneeg 5/2/2005
A highly memorable evening! Saturday night we were transported to a world we never knew existed on the UWS. It was like walking into an Afro-Carribean village (check out the bathroom!) with leather and/or straw adorning everything. The music was "Garifuno", Honduran/Belizian tribal played by an enthusiastic band with amazing hip-gyrating dancers. The energy permeated the room. Throughout the evening guests were encouraged t...
