Worth the wait.
JUST WANTED TO TELL YOU MY NAME IS CARVED ON ALL THE TABLES WAS NICE LIVING AROUND THE CORNER GETTING CHEESEBURGERS GRILLED CHEESE W/ BACON AND CHILI AT 4 AM WAS FANTASTIC AND OF COURSE A MCSORLEYS BEFORE YOU WENT HOME
The meat is tender and made perfect as ordered, the price is very honest and the envirement is great!
I never miss it when i'am in New York!
I cannot understand the incredible popularity of this place. Is it a good dive bar with good burgers? Absolutely, but none of its merits justify waiting more than an hour for a table on a weekday night or having to put up with massive overcrowding after you sit down.
the bistro has a warm atmosphere with killer music. the bartender is as fine as they possibly come, not to mention painfully funny and smart. but let's get down to it: the bistro burger is sinfully satisfying, thanks for the perfectly crispy bacon.
I've been coming to the Bistro for years. Yeah, cheap beer. Yeah, good burgers. Sure, great. But it's the ambiance about the joint that makes this place one of my favorite bars in the world. ("?World?? Really?? Yep.) The incredible juke box pumping out the earnestness of Wilco, the angry whine of Neil Young, the cool of Louis Armstrong. And the bartender, Jeff, is about as close to ?the ...
This is probably one of the best burgers I've had in the city. It's a more traditional/homemade style as opposed to a Shake Shack or Five Guys but the quality is right up there with the best in the city. It's a thick style (and huge) relatively inexpensive burger. Get with bacon and cheese. It's in a small corner on West 4th which is annoying to get to for some New Yorkers, but its well worth...
Until recently I swore by the cheap beer, savory bistro burgers, and charming veteran bartender of Corner Bistro; yet after my last visit I will never again return to what was once my favorite neighborhood bar. My friend and I went to the Corner Bistro for dinner and drinks on a Sunday night, and noted the bar was filled predominately with middle aged men who were comrades with a bartender we had...
Huddled in the heart of gay historic West Village, a thuggish Asian-descented waiter has attacked customers even yelling epithets of "No F@ggots" to a customer who was beaten and the police did not respond. With marginal cleanliness, dry-ass burgers and pestilence aplenty, why would you RISK DEATH in this Chew and Spew (of Hatred and Intolerance) Please right down your encounters with these Attac...
Would surely give Corner Bistro 5 stars if it were not hard to get a table at times. But then again here I am writing a review and encouraging more people to go.
Great burgers and even better beer selection make this place a MUST do while in NYC. The burgers are cooked to perfection and well worth the wait (the line forms about 7pm), Relaxed atmosphere and good crowd make Corner Bistro the best place to grab a burger in NYC. Enjoy!
Corner Bistro has been the savior of many nights that may have just been a bust. You walk in, sit down at the bar, say hi to the bartender (who will undoubtedly be courteous and genial), order a beer and fries (or a burger, I hear they're fantastic, but I'm a vegetarian), and just relax. The beer on tap is delicious. It's a really no-frills kind of place, but something about the atmosphere alw...
Today, my date and I went here after reading the raving reviews about this place. It was a relatively short wait since we got there at around 2 in the afternoon. When our table was ready, we were told to "Go straight and make a right". Our seats were very close to the other table (there would be no room to go in between the tables). It was very cramped and definitely not a place for anyone who is...
I definitely recommend getting there early- I left the place just before 6:30 and it was already pretty crowded. I can see why it gets so packed, though- it was one of the best burgers I've ever had! It was well-done and served simply, just the way I like a hamburger. The fries were really good, too; they were crunchy and not too salty. And who could complain about the prices? The place itself ha...

As long as you don't have to wait for it, you won't be disappointed by the Corner Bistro burger. To avoid waiting, show up before 6pm. There's just something about the simple white-bread bun, the airy patty and the messy toppings that makes you sink into burger bliss.
I'll echo most sentiments here - nice, thick burger that comes out quickly - mine was medium well although I asked for medium rare...could have used more salt, cheap buns, and it's a little smelly (like urinal/stale beer smell). The place looks/is more like a bar than a burger joint. Good burger but not going out of my way again- better burgers in order are:
(1) Chelsea Grill (bigger more s...
Great burgers, cold beer, weekdays are better for quick seating. The later you get there the longer you wil be standing staring jealously at everyone eating their burgers.
Been to Corner Bistro about a dozen times and every time it is the best burger experience I've ever had. I've brought many different people and the all come away with the same comment - that's the best burger I've ever had... The lines are long if you get there after 6 PM but the wait is worth it, especially with a nice McSorely's to pass the time.
Although a small and crowded dive, the burgers are to DIE for. The bacon cheeseburger has some generous strips of thick bacon, and the fries are awesome! Nice thick burger...you are sure to leave FULL after only spending a couple of bucks. They don't take credit cards though, but there's an ATM machine in there.
This place is a hole in the wall; it's old, it's small, the service leaves something to be desired, the food is served on cheap paper plates and the menu consists of about 5 items.
But, it's quite possibly the best (and most famous) burger in all of New York City. You have to come here at least once!
It's one of those places that you love but you're not sure why. It's old, it's historic, i...
This place is supposed to be the best burger in town? That's funny. I went a few months ago, order my burger medium and received it raw. not medium rare or even rare. RAW, just barely seared on the outside. I sent it back and never received a new one. I even tasted some of my friends burger to see what the big deal was and it really wasnt that great. oh and the fries were old and soggy. It wasnt ...
We came here for dinner. The line was incredibly long and the bar was loud. The beer was good and we didn't mind the wait too much because we heard the burgers were amazing. We were eventually seated at a fairly dirty table. I went to wash my hands, but the bathroom was so dirty, there was no point to try. We ordered the chili burger. To the establishment's credit, the orders are taken and delive...
I went to the Corner Bistro on a Friday night and it was packed. We had six people and only waited about 20 minutes. The place is small but the burgers are worth it. The atmostphere is fun and busy. This place is like your local neighborhood bar. The service is fast and not at all fussy or complicated. Check this place out with friends!!
With an impending move to the West Coast, I considered corner bistro one of roughly ten remaining passport stamps i needed to fill before I could say goodbye to the city I've loved for five years. Corner Bistro's burgers were regarded to be the city's best. I walked in with admittedly high expectations - noone is more disappointed than me to share that I walked out with those expectations hopel...
this is one of the last bastions left in a New Manhattan where old haunts like this are being forced out and turn to condo's or banks. It's a great old burger bar - fast in and out -crude place that you will miss one day.
It's great. I go on Sundays right at noon to get a table.
I wouln't say it's the best burger in the city---but it was pretty decent. The Bistro Burger (which i order) tasted juicy with crispy bacon. For the most part---i do like the burger. The service could be worked on a bit (but it is busy---so i can't complain). The drinks were really inexpensive. However---yes. There is a "however". I don't think i ever want to eat there again---the place was dark...
I wandered into this place about twenty years ago and have been visiting regularly ever since. The simplest menu in the city and possibly the best burger I have ever had, and beleive me, i'm a professional. I recommend you start off with a cold McSorley's Ale for $2.50 and order up a Bistro Burger cooked medium rare with a 6side of fries if you must.
Is the Corner Bistro a cool, hip place to hang out? Absolutely. Can you get cheap eats there? Yes! Is it the "Best Burger" in the city? NOT EVEN CLOSE!!!!!!!!!! I am really getting tired of hearing all this hype about CB's burgers being the best in the city - dont get me wrong, they are not bad, but there are so many better burgers to be found in New York. It is fair to say that if you are h...
The staff is so rude it makes you uncomfortable! You feel like they are doing YOU the favor by serving you!
The Bistro could have great burgers, but they're only good because they don't cook them right. If you ask for a medium, you get a bloodbath on a plate. So then you step up one level to medium-well, and they give you an overcooked dry burger. I'd hate to see what they think well done means - a peice of charcoal maybe? And what is a rare burger like? Do they just bring out a live cow when you ...
The burger is juicy (albeit way too big to hold and eat properly) and flavorful and the fries are perfectly crispy but it's a very simple place. I guess that's an attraction for some, but not really for me. The burger is decent, not really amazing though. It's really just a small dive bar that serves relatively expensive burgers. There is no customer service to speak of. We walked in, and ki...
Plain and simple: You get a cheap, giant burger and cheap beer on tap. The burgers sometimes are overcooked or a little dry, but let's not fool ourselves here; for this price you cannot beat it. Great place, great staff and an overall real New York feel.
I had just flown into the city an hour earlier and wanted a great burger and a beer. My boyfriend recommended the Corner Bistro and it was PERFECT! The bar was loud and crowded and there was a tranny hustler sitting next to my friend, scamming fries, but in spite of that, I had a great experience!
I ordered a cheeseburger, fries, and 2 Rolling Rocs on tap. The burger was cooked perfectly and in ...
I went to corner bistro not expecting outstanding service or the best food ever; but even my modest expectations were not met. It took us a long time to get a table, but that was fine and the bar was right there so I enjoyed hanging out and drinking cheap beer. Once we ordered the food took forever and people who sat down after us had eaten and paid their bill (one would not expect this conside...
Yes, the burgers are good. They're not large, they're just done extremely well. One should order a couple of burgers here to really get the appetite down. Service is not that great, but when the most expensive meal is $5.75, they know the tips aren't really going to be that great. The drinks are decent from the bar and a turn off is the cash only policy.
I was told that this place had the best burger in the city and they were terrible. It had no flavor, no spices, and tasted like fried ground beef. This was very disappointing. If this is the best burger in the city then I am from the wrong city.
If the young guy Jeff is working . Guy needs serious attitude adjustment. I'm a big tipper for the most part and this guy couldn't score a tip on my tap on my most generous day. We all have bad days but it appears a great establishment with great burgers has a bad ingredient....behind the bar. Service has more weight in my book. Won't go back again
dric30
It's always way too crowded with college kids at CB, and the waiters are downright SURLY. I don't need service with a sneer. So I always call, order the burger and pick it up to eat at home.
My favorite is the bacon cheeseburger (cheddar), medium. Yum! Life is good...
Corner Bistro consistently has the best burgers in town, and they're affordable! There's often a line but it usually doesn't take long for it to move along.
or at least it used to be.....always gets crowded early....love the simple menu, movie stars and rock stars like hanging out here at 3am.
Perfect menu if you only want to choose between a burger or a burger. "I'll take a burger." This is not a complaint, or a critisism. I appreciate the minimalist attitude. When they do something so well, why should they screw around with something else?
The burgers are good but not overly spectacular. What I like about these burgers is that they are thick and therefore come out juicy from under the broiler. This place is a village institution which deserves a visit.
We live around the corner and weve been coming to Corner Bistro for years. Its always been a fun experienceuntil tonight. We decided to eat at the bar, and after ordering our food the bartender (the younger one, not the nice, older man whos usually there) asked us what we wanted to drink. We opted for water to start, thinking wed get beers later. The guy rudely walked away and told us we couldnt ...
This is the place for it. Any seasoned New Yorker will tell you some of the best things in life are simple. This place serves beer and burgers and does it well. If you want a smile, go to a BR Guest restaurant, that's what they're trained to do. If you want a great burger, go to Corner Bistro!!
Great hamburgers, but the Corner Bistro has the worst service of any food establishment I've ever been to. Even a Soviet-era Muscovite would shake their head at the service. In a word (or two), it's non-existent.
Don't go to Corner Bistro expecting to be seated right away and to have a charming, cute waitress serve your food. This place is what it is: old school, brisk, small, busy, no frills. It just happens to serve the best burgers in the city.
Great place if you can avoid stopping by when Jeff, one of the bartenders, is working. He must be a relative of the owner to remain employed with such a consistently rude attitude towards customers. Huge contrast to the rest of the friendly staff. Other than that, it's a fabulous neighborhood institution that hasn't changed in years and hopefully never will.
These are the thickest burger patties found in town and tastes awesome. Meal for two under twenty bucks including beer - can't beat that! There's a reason why there's a long line - cause it's worth the wait.
Definitely hit Corner Bistro if you haven't! It is such a great spot, just a bit busy at times. But if you don't mind drinking a beer while you wait in line, this is your place! And the prices are so low, it's great!
It had been 8 years since I set foot in The Corner Bistro. The place was the same. Thank the universe for keeping it the same. I had traveled 8000 miles to get a burger and of course this was the place to take care of that need. The music was still excellent and it still felt like a home away from home.
Many things change and good things turn to dust but the Bistro is a constant in burger heav...
Okay, so I was introduced to Corner Bistro or as we like to call it The "CB" about a month ago. Let me tell you I am not a big hamburger fan, but one bite of this hamburger and I was hooked. This by far is the best hamburger I have ever eaten in my life. If you do one thing before you die you better eat this hamburger. CB is always there for you day or night... stumbling home at 2 am where els...
I love this place: cheap beer and great burgers! I know that you have to wait but it is worth it!
I was told this is the best burger joint in NY. My friend and I cued for 1 hour before being seated by the rude little man who was our server... he didn't offer any smiles, thankyous, please, you're welcomes... hardly looked us in the eye once. Our burgers arrived, and they were disappointing... I could easily make better myself at home, and the fries were greasy.
I would not recommend it at all
i love burgers and corner bistro is definitely my favorite place in the city! you must get the bistro burger medium rare...the fries are just ok but the burgers are big you don't even need fries. $2 beers cant be beat! i would eat here everynight if i could!!!!
I love this place. It's a bit overcrowded, and sometimes you have to wait quite long to be seated (especially if you are with a lot of friends), but the food is an incredible value for money... The hamburger is amazing! very tasty! and the fries excellent.
This is for sure my favorite burger in NY.
service is not special. It's what you get at a packed bar...
Go in off hours!
I agree with the previous poster that said that the late night bartender is beyond surly...he's a maniac! We stopped in Saturday last weekend and he threw two guys out who clained about how long there burgers were just as the server was setting the burgers down in front of them! But please, he fits in at that hole in the wall bar like a glove. Dingy, no atmosphere, dark, zero personality on t...
If you're out drinking and you're looking for a delicious and filling snack for cheap and beer to wash it down with, then Corner Bistro is the place for you. I've been going up and down the best burgers in nyc lists for months now and Corner Bistro is definitely top 5. The burger was huge and juicy. Get it with cheese and bacon for the true experience. It did not have a char broiled flavor l...
OK so it's no big secret. Bartender told me they but their meat up the street on 11th (the ole' meat district) every day. They use a "Salimander" to "above" broil and slow cook. The bun is small to bring out the burger. Simple but unreal! Try it - try it - try it! The tap beers are a bit pricey though. NO PINTS! Just small mugs. Burgers served on a paper plate with small pickle slices. ...
The bartender (who works the late night shift) is rude, inconsiderate, and inhospitable. He clearly has social and anger management problems, and is not fit to work in the hospitality industry. My friends and I would have had a lovely time if we weren't treated so horribly.
The burger was as good as advertised, although I have to say the fries were a little puny. Excellent prices for the beers though, and overall a great cheap eats experience.
These are the Best burgers I have ever tasted. This is not another Junk Food restaurant, dont worry. They are not expensive at all, so don't worry about the money. I like this restaurant mainly because it has it's private feeling. The service is also great there. This is my favorite place out there to eat great burgers. Check it out, Very Recommended!!
PROS: Great food, no junk food, not expen...
The best burger in NYC. And its cheap. The best fries. The best beer (McSorelys Ale for 3 bucks a mug.) And the best bartenders. You wait in line for a table here, no lists allowed. But beware, it gets super crazy from 7pm-11pm. Its so worth the wait. And on line you could probably meet someone to date. I recommend the bistro burger.
Great place to eat. Old place, they must be doing something right. Great burger, good price, and cheap beer. Cant beat that right. Avoid lunch and dinner times, as you will surely have to wait in line.
If you can get past the crowd and actually get a table, you'll get a great burger. The food and beer are cheap and fast, even late night. Everything is served on paper plates and there's nothing fancy about it, but thats part of the beauty of it. Corner Bistro has been around for a long time, and is well known for having a great burger. They live up to their reviews.
Tucked away in a corner of the West Village is one of the best burger places in New York. Huge burgers, great fries, ridiculously cheap beer, and it's open until very late at night for those post-party munchies. Gets crowded most nights, but it's worth it, and you can always eat at the bar
PROS: amazingly cheap, great food
CONS: crowded, long waits for a table
A true institution....you're not here for the ABSOLUTE best burger in the city, it is among the best, you're not here for the clean glasses, the beer is great though, you're not here for a quick bite, beer makes the hour long wait go faster. At least it keeps the tourists away.
This place is not what it used to be...not even close. For years I would tell anyone and everyone I knew that if they wanted the best bacon cheeseburger ever, to go here. Now, it's simply a hollow shell of what it used to be. The burgers are dry and overcooked. The wimply plate of cold, overcooked fries is a joke. And, the service is just abysmal. I've been a few times over the last 2 years and i...
These were by far the best french fries that I have ever had. Man, they were awesome.
People.. what you're all missing here is the bacon... it's like a work of art. Take a peek at the deep fry thing next time you're there (under the burger grille)... They cook cook the bacon in the same grease the fries are in!
This makes the bacon unbelivably delicious and crunchy, the fries have a delicious meaty bacon grease taste, and the whole place smells like bacon... Genius!
Also, t...
so that the jostling, spilled beers, and hour long wait doesn't bother you. The waiters were brusque but really efficient - they got all our orders right and even heard my quiet request for water. They serve all burgers well done regardless of what you ask for. It's cheap but I probably won't go back unless it's empty (I guess, like past reviews said, before 6 pm), which will probably never happe...
At 3 am this place is money to grab one more beer and a burger. The menu's are on the wall and it's just bench style tables. The place is crowded late nite from all the heads rollin drunk so you may have to wait for a table....but go to the back, you have a better shot of getting one. Can't beat the prices either.
Although it looks like a whole in the wall, its a cool spot for a late night burger, espcially if your in the mood to relax, but you better order two burgers if you plan on getting full....Its old fashion and thats the beauty of it.
I finally ventured to Corner Bistro yesterday to see whether their burgers deserve the accolades lavished on them.
Well, they don't. The cheeseburger I had was fine-- good, even-- but the patty was a little dry and the bun was thin and soggy. The fries were good, but identical to McDonald's version for twice the price; I don't think I would be able to tell the difference in a blind taste tes...
I don't understand where some of these people get off calling the Corner Bistro not good. Look, even Peter Luger's has an off night and the steaks don't come out right. But that's part of what makes the place special...You'll wait a long time by a dark crowded bar, you might have something spilled on you but when you leave you'll understand why you did it. You also can't beat $2 beers. I'm by...
The burgers here are good, but I don't know how this is always rated the best. Its just a plain burger-nothing special. The french fries were really good, though. The price is definately right for both the food and the drinks. The burger is pretty tastless and doesn't have much cheese on it. The bun is a little too small, but very good. The problem is that the bun gets all soaked with the b...
Too many people are on to this place for a great burger. The wait sometime can be long since the place is so small. The burgers are consistently excellent fare.
I've been twice and both times were great. The burgers are so soft and the fries are perfectly crisp! The ambiance is typical of a pub and there's a long line. But, if you go with some friends and order a beer while you wait, it's well worth it.
This is by far the worst hamburger I have ever had. I have no idea who said it was the best and why, but this person surely was raised in some sort of desparate conditions where red meat was not readily available.
The burgers were dry and overcooked regardless of how they were ordered. The fries sucked and the atmosphere is a cross between MASH's Mess Tent and Animal House!
Don't buy into...
The Corner Bistro HAD the best burgers in the city. My boyfriend and I went back recently and found the burgers to be bland and the texture was like sawdust. And the chili for the chili burger was flavorless..tasted like ground beef with tomato sauce...not chili! I don't know what they did to the burgers but they are definitely not as good as they were 2 years ago.
This place has got to have, hands down, the BEST burger I have ever had in my life! The atmosphere couldn't be better, and the service was outstanding -- at the time there were only two people working the entire bar, and we still got taken care of like it was a five star restaurant. Not to mention that the portions are enormous, but delectable in every way -- and the prices can't be beat. One thi...
Whats all the fuss about. Granted, the meal was a bargan by NYC standards but there was nothing special about my burger and the fries were hard and greasy not crispy. Ive had better burgers and fries at the local dinner in my neighborhood: 3 guys dinner on 96th and Madison Avenue. I guess what they say is true. Given enough hype, people will buy almost anything.
I waited an hour on line Tuesday night (2/24) for a Corner Bistro hamburger and it was definitely worth it. The wait is ok because you can usually make friends with the folks on line around you. Have a drink while you wait...
Yes, the food is greasy and th space is cramped but it is so worth it. McSorley's are $2 and hamburgers are $4. Where else can you get a deal like that?
Channel 11 New...
The burger was OK!! Not the best by any means. The place itself is unique, but if you are a germaphobe watch out because at first glance the place looks a little raunchy. I will not be returning for a burger... ever. There are so many other places that have better burger in NYC. The price is cheap, because that's the quality you get.
Great place to go to grab a beer and some food with a few friends. Yes it is crowded at times, but usually you can wait around the bar and evenutually get a seat. Its cheap, has good food, and a wonderful jukebox!
The restaurants is small therefore crowded with 1 hour lines on weekends. In addition, the bar is only staffed by one bartender. We had to wait 20 minutes before getting a beer, and we never got our burger order. We even got yelled at for checking on our burger order. We ened up walking out after an hour with no food.
Though have been slightly less impressed lately (little less moist than in the past) this is one of the best burgers in nyc. the fries are also top notch, and all at bargain prices!
BEware: the place gets verry busy after 6pm.
I have been going to the Corner Bistro for 7 years now and it's still one of my favorite places to go. For those who just want chill and relax with good friends over beers and burgers, this is the place to go.
I went to Corner Bistro on a recommendation. I love the easy going atmosphere and the burger was really tasty. I don't know if it's the best, but it is one of the better places to grab a casual burger. Perfect for a late night craving.
People keep telling me that the burger at Corner Bistro is the best in town. It is almost impossible to get rid of that myth. In fact, it is not. I have tried it several times. I met people that haven't even eaten there but still claim it to be the best burger in town. There you have it. It's a myth. Most people are merely disseminating a legend. The only good thing about that burger: It's inexpe...
Best burger I ever had! Very inexpensive and so good! Very nice atmosphere. Seated promptly.
this place is one of those places in the city where popularity has gone to its head and it takes advantage of the fact that people actually like its food. waiters and bartenders think they can treat the patrons any way they want to. it is usually crowded, loud and noisy, with people most of the people in the restaurant on a line to get seated. the burgers are admittedly good, but not the best i'v...
I don't think there is a better thing on earth than a $6 burger at any time of day or night. And it's a good burger...a damn good one. I live so close to this place that it literally is my corner bistro. I love it, and I cannot recommend it enough.
Having long enjoyed the world's greatest burger at J.G. Melon, 76th and 3rd, I finally (after 15 years) got around to visiting the one place in town that is supposedly better, Corner Bistro. Result: big disappointment. The burger is good and worth experiencing, but it's not QUITE as good as J.G. Melon's. Corner Bistro's burger absolutely does not deserve to beat J.G. Melon's for the top spot. ...
I am actually surprised & disappointed that Dewey/Gayle have bought into this "hype".The burgers can be described simply as:Ground Beef
Lettuce Tomato Onion Bun Self-inflicted condiments.
Anything else tasted during your experience is solely in your mind. There was nothing special about this burger whatsoever. So, this begs the questions:1)Apparently Gayle likes ketchup. Perhaps the flavor of the...
If you don't like Corner Bistro then you just don't get it. I have been going there for over 25 years and it is clearly a NYC original. Does it really matter that their hamburger isn't the greatest ever? It's the "real" crowd, the classic jazz/oldies jukebox, the unchanged decor and cold beer that make it timeless. Perhaps you should turn around and head back towards the Village as I need my s...
Great Burgers, no pretense. Doesn't get better than that.
Dive-y restaurant with a real mix of New Yorkers.
I just went here for the first time and thought the burger was so great. I cannot wait to go back. And everything was so cheap!
Filled with smoke and crowded... often a wait... burgers are pretty tasty but small and not that exceptional. You're better off going elsewhere and saving the headache. If you are seeking a great burger, Silver Spurs and Paul's are better.
The burgers are awesome! Totally worth the 45 minute wait on line. Not so bad, you wait on a long line but you can grab a couple beers at the bar while you wait, and they have McSorley's on tap for $2. Go with friends and its a great place to hang out and get some good all-american cheap eats.
it's easy to find a great burger in New York, but not easy to find good value. you can pay $5 or $50. corner bistro is great value, but not the best value. for that go to molly's.
any downtown ny'er has to try this place at least once. go during off hours (before 5pm or after 1am weeknights) to get seated quickly. my burgers have been inconsistent as to temperature (i've ordered medium and they have come out rare occaisionally) but i eat them anyway because it is always delicious. the fries are top notch, too, and it is great that they bring them out first.
basic burger, tasty and a catchy atmosphere. Daddy-o's nearby is MUCH MUCH better and unknown
The burgers were juicy but greasy. Never go there to buy takeout. While you're standing around for a good half hour waiting for two plain burgers, you're being bumped into by people waiting to be seated because of the narrow passageway leading to the dining area. They totally ignored us so after about 25 minutes, we gave up and decided to leave. The hispanic guy who makes the food was nice enough...
The wait is certainly worth it. For a quick bite or a latenight snack CB is great. Cheap cooked perfectly to order burgers and cheap beers too! You are missing out if you like burgers and haven't been here yet!
What they say is true, this is the best (regularly priced) burger in Manhattan. J.G. Melon is a close second, along with Paul's Palace on 2nd ave. The atmosphere is awesome too. It's a smoky, beer- and bloody mary-guzzling wooden bar with surly bartenders...just the place to have a great burger experience.
If you are looking for a hole in the wall hamburger joint, with bad fries, burnt buns, and slow service this is the place for you. Sure, the prices are good, but you are only getting good, not great. Definitely not the best hamburger place in NYC.
Pound for pound, one of the best restaurants in the city (if you're in the right mood). Just be ready to wait in line for awhile.
Don't get me wrong, this place serves up some tasty burgers and chicked sandwiches but I'm not sure if it's THE BEST in NYC. The prices are certainly tasty though.
Last Friday 12/27/2002, found the excitement of going to CB overwhelming. Saw the buns toasting and the meat under the broiler. The burgers were served, but what? The meat was lacking in flavor. And, worse medium rare turned out to be unevenly cooked? Bottom line, not worth the hype or the wait.
If you like great burgers and beer in a no frills environment, and don't want to pay NYC prices, this is the place for you. Don't expect linens on your table, or lemon slices in your water, just expect a great burger at a great price and you won't be disappointed!!
The hamburger was so greasy, I had trouble keeping it from slipping out of my hands. And then when I was finally able to take a bite,I had to wipe my hands 6t imes on the napkin in order to get the grease off my hands.I could not tell whether the mayonaise I ordered was Hellman's or Kraft's, it was so raunchy tasting that I had to conclude that whatever jar it came from, the expiration on that jar...
Corner Bistro was the most amazing burger we had ever tasted in this world. Seriously, it was delicious. From the charming host/bartender Paul to the local neighbor in the corner, Roger, the atmosphere and the delicious food filled every part of our hearts as well as stomach. Do not look for a menu as you don't need to order anything else other than a burger, fries and beer. We will definetly see...
The sweltering rack of burgers at the bistro is a fine, fine site. Plenty of meat is placed on each of those irrelevent objects called buns, and to wash it down with a 3$ brew is just a joke. It's certainly a good time at minimal cost.
This is teh place for very high quality cholesterol. Itnakes heart disease worth it.
Why are they considered "best burger"? It's NOT flame-broiled, it's done on one of those frying-pan machines, and tastes like I did it myself in my kitchen. If you want a REAL flame-broiled burger, hit Florent in the meatpacking district.
The burger I had was a tough, overcooked, tasteless overhyped disappointment. I've eaten better burgers at Wendys. First of all, the meat was lukewarm, as if it had been lying around for a while before being served. Secondaly, the bacon on the burger was the consistency of jerky. The cheese wasn't even melted. I cannot believe how anyone could think this is the best burger in the city. Beer was g...
Corner Bistro is the place to go when you want to unwind and enjoy yourself.
The best burgers. Awesome value. Great ambiance. Great place for a weekend lunch.
it was a 45 minute wait for less than average burgers & the worst chili EVER in a noisy, dirty tavern. the burgers were requested as medium and well-done. instead we got well-done and rock-hard. the quality of the meat is not even worth mentioning. the chili was mainly oil, which was, quite literally, the entire top half of the bowl. the food is undoubtedly inexpensive, but it is not even wo...
This really is the best burger in NYC. I always get my burgers medium-rare. In lesser burger joints, they are cooked and brown all the way through. Not so at the Corner Bistro; Their burgers are charred on the outside and still bloody on the inside. The buns are also very good: hearty and dry, not soggy and dampy. Read that twice if you like Paul's Palace. The Corner Bistro is also superior to th...
A great place to come if, like me, you are on a tight budget and in need of some wholesome, filling, unhealthy food. No frills, just good burgers n beer!
Corner Bistro has great burgers, but the best in New York are available at the Smith & Wollensky Grill on 49th Street around the corner from the Steak House of the same name. Along with fries and a pickle, their burgers are delightful, and they are enormous - a burger lovers dream!
There's nothing good about this place, and if you think this is a good burger place you don't know what a good burger is. It took us about 30 minutes to get seated, the burgers came without lettuce, they brougt us the wrong drinks, and the flavor of the burgers were below average. I will never go back to this place. It was a disappointment.
Great date spot, don't take your high maintenance women here, they just don't understand... Great selections on the jukebox. Great burger and honestly some of the best bathroom graffiti in the city.
Corner Bistro has what one might call the best Burger in town, but it is just that: Only a burger. Nothing exciting about it. You have to go across town to St. Dymphna's in the East Village. There the burgers are like a prty for your mouth. And when I say party, I mean Super!
I have no idea how this got ratted the best burger in town.
But its like a regular, dinner bugger....plain bun, ugly lettuce, and the first time i ordered it, it was raw(like purple), and they gave me attitude for sending it back.
I will give it this....its a great dive bar,,,perfect place to have a drink with an old man with no teeth.
To eat in a hurry and get a seat make sure you arrive before 6pm! It gets super packed, but you can always have a few beers at the bar while you wait! Dont forget to try the chicken sandwich, to die for.
Can't understand why this places get all this hype. It's a good burger but there are plenty of Greek diners around where you get something comparable.
The line for burgers stretch through the bar area which make it very uncomfortable and inconvenient for those waiting in line and those just having a drink at the bar. Once you're seated it is VERY cramped (they stuffed my party of 6 onto a t...
Corner Bistro, despite the hoopla and critical praise, is nothing more than a burger joint with long lines. The burgers are boring and have limited flavor. The bandwagon is full and needs to be unloaded in the Hudson with the rest of the waste. Taste buds should determine the true champion...which CB does not deserve.
The joint is old but the beer is cold. The burger is sloppy but sensational. The fries are fantastic. And every now or then you can walk right in sit right down and go to town on the best burger in town!
I won't say that the burgers are bad, but they are not deserving of the lofty praise given in previous reviews. I think maybe everyone goes there drunk and we all know anything tatses good drunk. I'll say this - they're greasy little buggers, and small too. But hey, they're only burgers. Can't say I recommend, but no need to stay away either. Just lower your expectations...
this place has become such a tourist trap. Bohemian bar no more. the burgers are marginal at best. some people rave about them, but they really are just okay. this place gets way too crowded as well. if you are gonna go, try and hit it off hours. avoid it on the weekends or on thurday nights.
The beer is still cheap, the line is still long and the waiters are still disinterested (to put it mildly). Unfortunately, the burgers have changed. Perhaps it's the stinginess with the cheese (only one slice?) or the increase in tables which worsens an already crowded place. There are better places for a burger, although maybe not at 3am.
I agree. Corner Bistro is a little hard to find after a night of partying. But the burgers are the best along with anything choice of beveregs that is serverd. These burger are tastier than eveny Wendy's,McDonalds,Burger King,White Castle. All American plus any diner, resturant, fast food joint combinded. They are that good. The least metinioned fact is that these hurgers are very digestable. Nor he...
cool crowd, geat jukebox, good atmosphere, and some bad ass burgers.
The Corner Bistro burger is the culinary equivalent of a British art-house picture; it sounds great, it looks fabulous, but you walk away feeling that it really could have done with just a little..something. In this case, cheese. Sure, the patty is fat and visually impressive, albeit a little more well-done than we would have preferred, but where was the cheese? A single processed slice serving a...
Besides being a mediocre burger, this place is a dump! Paper plates, plastic cups, dirty tables. Maybe with a hangover this is overlooked but for those of us in search of a great burger, it's just a disappointment.
for those who argue it's hard to find and for those who argue the burger's no good, you must be from mars and you must be damn lazy. unless you like your restaurants screaming with neon and stuck in the middle of times square, then a hard to find favorite like corner bistro is in the perfect place. it's enjoyable to tell a cabbie, "corner bistro, west 4th and jane, off 8th ave. and 12th street's ...
"The place is hard to find" and "the cab drivers don't know how to take you here" - these signs are telling you something. It doesn't want to be found. I had one burger here and was still hungry....and couldn't find a good reason to have another one. Now that is not a good sign. The burger was nothing special, I really don't understand the hype. Did I come to the right Corner Bistro? Was it...
Awesome place for a delicous burger and a few pints. McSorlies pints are only $2! Where else can you get a deal like that. Though its tough to get a table, almost always swamped buts worth the waite
Wholly crap, that is one good burger!! But good luck finding it, no cab driver knows how to get to the cross-streets.
Excellent burgers! I'm from Houston, TX but NYC is my 2nd home .... and I've had plenty of good burgers in Texas. But NONE still compare to the burgers I've had at Corner Bistro! A MUST-EAT! The ambience is also classic, and non-pretentious!
In search of the best burger in town, the corner bistro was alright but I can't say much else. Besides the dark, dank surroundings, the burger was just alright. Disappointing with all the hype I had heard about them.
Cheap beer might explain the remarkable number of high ratings. A tasty but unremarkable burger. I would rather take a burger from Island or Pom Pom Cafe any day.
For the last 3 saturday's I have gone to corner bistro at around 1pm-starving and hungover. Frankly, I can't say that I've found a better out of ritual than the one stated above. I walk in and order a cold mug of Sam Adam's while I wait to be seated and get a tasty bacon, cheese burger and delicious fries. I swear to god that these burgers keep my head on straight for the whole week. These bu...
this is a saloon and a not to clean one at that
If you crave something while your staving off drunkeness at the bar okay otherwise go to a restaurant.
Bistro Burger=Overrated, Bistro Burger=Crap. What is it that the place puts in the Burger to brain wash people into thinking that this is good. There are countless places in the city who (on their worst days) can make a better Burger. Seriously, it offends me to think that people honestly think that this crap is good. Maybe I should throw back 4 or 5 drinks at the bar before I get a Burger. Maybe...
The BEST burgers in town, no doubt, this little hole in the wall place always has line out the door and servers running around in a frenzy to cater to everyone's needs! this very popular burger joint has other not so exotic but bbque and delicious fattening foods to cater to your palate, stop by for a beer and burger! or chicken, if you are watching your weight!
Wow, what a great burger! It's so good and tastes even better with a beer. The lines may be a bit long, but once you sit down, service is quick and friendly.
I had the bistro burger and would rather have made the same thing at home. Plus, I wouldn't had to wait for a table in the dark, stuffy, overweight-hipster filled bar.
Went last night to check out what people claimed to be the best burger and loved it. I am not a big burger eater (never order them actually), but they must do something to the meat to make it taste like that. It isn't tough at all and totally homemade (I think?)....not to mention cheap - as are the beers. Go early so you don't have to stand on line for an hour.
It's an institution, and it ROCKS. Two-dollar beers, killer burgers, and a perfect jukebox. Life is good when you're at the Bistro.
The burgers were greasy, the beers were cold, the atmosphere was dark and dingy. A good place to go for burgers and beer and nothing else.
There's no specifying well, medium or rare here.. they cook them just right all the time. Don't forget to order a decently-priced beer, too.
"The Beast"ro Burger -- The perfect combination of bacon, cheese, lettuce, tomato and hamburger...talking is just a waste of time.
Sure, the burgers are good, but not good enough to make up for the abominable service and disgusting, filthy atmosphere. This is an ideal place to go at 1 am when you're drunk, but a place to avoid at 7 pm when you're sober.
bad food, bad atmosphere and a skuzzy clientel add up to a place to avoid. if you want taste in a burger this is not he place. go to jackson hole for good food and ambience.
As a cop in NY, I know a good place to eat, and the Corner Bistro is THE BEST burger in the city!
These burgers are terrific and a good price but the place, esp. the bathroom is filthy...I've trailed off on going there, don't peek in the kitchen, you won't stay.
Time after time the burgers are juicey, messy, and wonderful. A McSorley's is perfect to wash one down, especially at $2, and it really hits the spot after a long night of drinking; they serve till 3:30am. You also see the same familiar aged faces behind the bar; a bit uninterested in serving you, but friendly nonetheless.
What do you like more, completely addictive patties of greasy beef, or glasses of cheap refreshing beer to wash it down? Well, Corner Bistro asks, "Why choose?" You can have both in this lovely, quaint n' cozy dive of a restaurant - the waiters aren't nice, but they know their burgers. And you will too after one visit - definitely an invitation to return!
On the average night, you're probably going to have to elbow your way in - but there's a reason for that. The burger is simply the best - any way you take it - melting down your throat with a pint to wash it back. Go as late or as early as you can or you could find yourself in a line straight out the door.
The burgers are fantastic...not to mention the fries. Definitely worth the wait.......
Your chin will drip with the luscious juices from this delectible burger. Not only the best burger around town but also the best eats for 5 bucks that you can find. There is no other way to order but bistro style... one word... deepfriedbacon!
and when it's bad it stinks! Overcrowding damages the quality, as my last two visits have yielded overdone burger and underdone fries. I was in love... by I have found another burger and moved on.
This is THE place in NY to get a burger. The system of waiting on line in the middle of the bar area to get a table takes a while to get used to but really adds to the place. Waiting for a table is all part of the fun, enjoy a couple of $2 beers and strike up a conversation with the great people that are always waiting for a Burger any time of night at the Corner Bistro!
The Bistro Burgers are thick, cheezy, greasy and loaded with bacon.
I have lived in Manhattan for 5 years and this is the best. There's only second after this place.
The famous burger did not disappoint. Very juicy and tasty!
I live in Jersey, but any time I'm in the city I've just got to stop by the bistro. Great with cold beer at the bar.
Great, no frills hamburgers and cheap beer. Don't ask what kind of cheese, or for toppings other than bacon - they don't have it.
I don't ever order burgers anywhere except at the Bistro - it's not just how the Bistro Burger is perfectly well-done or how the bacon on it is perfectly crispy or how the flavors of the cheese and onion blend perfectly with the juicy burger and bacon, but it's the entire experience at 3am in that dimly lit back room with a mug of beer, good (drunk) friends and that burger/french fry smell in the...
$ for $ this is the best place in the world. -- burger exceptional, staff top shelf, and a great juke box.
would suggest going after 10 pm -- very crowded prior.
great burgers and a wait staff that knows how to keep the beer flowing. if you are lucky you might even get to meet a very beautiful girl.
Plainly: cheap, excellent meat, good bun, thick bacon, no crap ever!
Excellent burgers at great prices! Best time to go is sometime in the afternoon. At night it's always packed and you usually cannot get a seat, which is obviously confirms that their burgers are the best.
it's cheap, it's fun, it's consistent great and simple food. high recommended.
Bistro burger is the best in the city by far
Some times the wait in the crowded space can seem tiresome, but a few $2 Mc Sorley's Ales can help pass the time. All of your cares go out of the window once you do sit down. The service is prompt, and the burgers are top knotch. They even manage to cook yours perfectly to order. I recommend "The Bistro Burger", a luscious but not overwhelming bacon cheese burger cooked medium rare. You'll need n...
The best, juiciest burget in town. You don't go here for atmosphere!!! But, it is worth going for a burger and fries! The burgers are awesome and filling too. For $10, you walk out so full! I can't wait to go back.
You have to wait in line most of the time, but the burgers are worth it and the beer is cheap. The inside doesn't look like they have changed it in a long time, which is a good thing.
While New York wins the battle of having the best pizza in the country, LA may take the cake for the best burgers. But, The Corner Bistro is grilling up some tasty, tasty burgers that stand next to the city of angels best ground beef delights.
TCB grills up fat, juicy burgers that border on orgasmic. One of the best burgers I've had ever. I think it's the onions. Great bar too, good late n...
Whenever I have guests visiting, I always take them to the Corner Bistro for a meal. Great atmosphere and great locals!
If you enjoy an Old NYC dive bar atmosphere, with a truely scrumptous hamburger at incredibly cheap prices in the picturesque West Village, go to the Corner Bistro. Be there as early as possible to avoid the over-crowded conditions, and to get an opportunity to play the eclectic juke box without having to wait a few hours to hear your selections.
Crowded, yes. smoky, yes. But the food is great (love them burgers)and the bar has, with out a doubt, a lot of charm.
This is the spot to stave off the most epic hangover with the flame broiled cure. Much is lost on decor and amenities, but the burger quality is nearly gourmet quality.
Unbeatable. The best spot for brainstorming your next great hair-brained scheme, or plan to get rich quick while chomping on THE best burger on the planet and wash it down with a little McSorleys straight from the tap - how's that for a true New York burger joint.
Best burgers in Manhattan, friendly bar tenders and good neighborhood/corner bar atmosphere. Be prepared to wait for a table and/or crowd in the bar area, though, as it seems being rated as this place has been pretty crowded every time I've been there!
Nothing is better than sliding into a hard wood booth, sipping a $2 ale, and knowing exactly what to order before you sit down. Corner Bistro is the only restaurant in NYC where I don't have to look at the menu and toil over what to order. The hamburgers are fresh, hot off the griddle, and served aside perfectly crispy, not greasy french fries. I love slathering everything in the spicy brown must...
While the long wait for a table can be a pain, the burgers are the best--plain and simple. And the price is definitely right.
You are guaranteed an inexpensive delicious and fun bite to eat. While the last few times I've been I'v left in a food coma, its well worth the painful roll home. Wear elastic and come hungry.
This place is great, except for the fact that it can get crowded at peak times. Amazing burgers and great music all the time - very cool scene too.
If you are 20 years old and have no money this is a great place to go, as the prices are basically what McDonalds charge. The atmosphere is fun, but the burgers are lousy.
if your idea of having a great time is hanging out at a cool joint, throwing back a couple of beers and eating awesome burgers, this is the place for you. Granted, the wait is long, but go when you are not too hungry, stand in line for a bit. By the time you get to the table, it'll have been WELL worth the wait.
Fabulous burgers----when the waiter brought the check, we told him to hold onto it so we could order twice! Best, juicy, not-too-tightly packed, meaty burgers oozing delectable juice--not grizzle or fat! Tasty, fresh onions, Heinz Ketchup and cold beer or Coke in a glass mug. The place was full of locals/regulars and the wood bar and decor is a throw back to the last century! My new favorite REAL...
In terms of burgers, there is no other place you should go in the city. It's always crowded here and the burgers are always well worth the wait. This place is a must for anyone is not a vegetarian.
Corner Bistro is NYC burger perfection. The perfectly packed double broiled chuck, literally drips with goodness. The meat melts in your mouth like filet mingon, and keeps with you to until you cleanse your pallet will a well-deserved mug of the good stuff. The fries are a la carte, and just Ok, but they're really just taking up valuable stomach real estate that could be saved for another helping...
This is the best "package" burger experience in town. Other places may have better burgers. or fries, or beer, but no place pulls it all together in a charming Village location like Corner Bistro. Go. Just don't take too long at your table and make the wait longer for the rest of us.
Just plain god burgers and fries. Seating at lunch time is definitely tight, but you can usually find a spot at the bar.
CORNER BISTRO SERVES THE BEST BURGER IN NYC HANDS DOWN. THE BURGERS ARE ALWAYS COOKED TO FLAVORFUL PERFECTION AND GO BEST WITH A NICE BEER.
I am a skeptic, always have been and always will be. But this is the best burger in town. The place, admittedly, looks like a hole...it's smoky, dirty, and loud. The locals seem hostile (rightfully so...this place is the worst kept secret in town), and the lines get long. But once you sit down, things are OK. A surly waiter takes your order, which unless you're clueless, is a Bistro Burger and fr...
I have been a devoted Bistro regular for more than a year now because it's a bar, nothing more. These are the things any good bar should have: A great jukebox (check), a great bartender (Jeff's great, check), and great food (check). Nothing more, nothing less. Add to that ridiculously low prices (I've heard the owner owns the building and doesn't need to rake in the cash) and it's almost always w...
Burger is fabulous, it's a heart attack on a plate but it is soo worth the wait, the hard to find location, and the cramped seating. CHeap beer, bistro burger is delicious and it is a smoking restaurant. i really can't complain.
Burger was better than the usual fast food and greek diner grub. But is it the best? No. I have no idea why people or posers think this is the best burger in NYC. The best burger I had was in the Upper Eastside cafe/ diner on Lexington Avenue on 64-65 street.
The absolute best burger in Manhattan..my only gripe is that they dont offer cheddar cheeseburgers, only American for those who're picky like me. When you're really hungry, go for the Chiliburger..YUM
really solid burgers, and they serve till 3 or 3:30 in the morning. waiter is slow, so order everything at once when you have a chance. in fact, double your drink order because you probably woin't get a chance to order a second time. actually, if there's a bar stool open, ust sit at the bar for the best service.
Folks, don't even bother yourselves to go there. This place is just nooooooot goooood.
I think the owners of the corner bistro must be posting all these positive reviews...I can't believe how many people consider this place the creme de la creme of burger joints. I went once a couple of years ago and never had the desire to go back. I don't want to dis the place but they do not deserve to be so highly praised all the time. I am convinced it has something to do with the fact that pe...
this is not your place. This may seem obvious, but for anyone likely to be dragged here by others, let me give you fair warning. Though I am told by many the burgers are good, there are no other charms to be found here. The non-burger menu items--grilled cheese, grilled chicken--are disappointing. And it's dark, dirty and frequented by cockroaches.
Corner Bistro has the BEST burgers in the city....that's it, end of conversation
I've seen cockroaches crawling the walls here more than once. I'm not complaining. I like the simplicity of the Corner Bistro. The menu is pretty much hamburgers. Cheese? Your choice yes or no but it's cheddar. That's it. French fries are strictly on the side. Corner Bistro does one thing and they do it right. The joint's reputation for a great burger is well-earned.
I always eat at the bar: a burger, fries and a pint of McSorley's. Always satisfying too.
This place is a must the next day after a big night out.
Yeah, it's on a corner, but it's not your typical bistro--which is both its charm and its downfall. It's a fantastic little dive for a brew and a cheap burger, but NYC's best burger -- let alone the country's -- it is not. I've been to Louis' Lunch, I know.
