Asians be prepared to be treated like a vagrant off the street. If you do eat there make sure you ask for the oranges before you get the bill or whatever they lavish non Asians and see how the managers & staff gets all twisted & creepy with excuses that you don't deserve the same treatment. Skip the tip!!!
Ducks are too dry to match their so expensive price! Also, their service is very inequality .
They refuse to serve after dinner to us oranges after a so expensive meal. We asked why they only not gave us.?
At first, they said there is no orange left, then they said we have to pay for it, so we asked them to show us the menu. They finally said we were being bad customers, but others are their f...
After reading all the recommendation in numerous sites, plus some in the guide books, I decided to go there with a group of friends to give it a try.
Big disappointment! The duck was cold and bland; the vegetable dish we ordered was soggy; the lamb dish was just salty! Overall, the food here was terrible!
This is a big tourist trap: overprice + second class food.
It's a waste of money. ...
There aren?t many restaurants that I can think of where I left feeling like I had been totally cheated out of my money. Unfortunately for me, Peking Duck House definitely fell under that category. I had read all the previous reviews about it being a tourist trap and having terrible service before going, but most people said the duck was good, so I let the other stuff slide.
Upon arrival, I s...
I have never had peking duck before so I guess I have no comparison, but I had a good experience there. I really liked the duck and the sauce, i did not experience any discrimination, but I am not asian. However, the server was not the friendliest. I'll probably try another place before I return because now I know I like peking duck and to try another place.
I've always wanted to check this place out but after going last night I would not rush to go back. The duck was mediocre and the sauce it was served with was really watery. It's a clean and decent looking place and the rest of the food was ok. The dumplings were great, actually. Just don't get the duck.
Prior to walking into Peking Duck House, I didn't have a clue as to the detailed process that a duck must go through to not only be chosen for Peking Duck but then the process itself...fascinating!
We ended up there twice during our most recent trip to New York; the first time we were part of a larger group and ordered the whole Peking duck. Seeing the duck wheeled out and sliced in front o...
Their food is way overpriced, tables are small, some areas are dirty.
They DON'T like asian customers, period.
They don't like to seat them and they don't even like to take their reservation. I tried just earlier today to make a reservation for tonight, they told me there is no table. I asked an american colleague to make the call again after 15 minutes, they told her no problem. Will never ...
I didn't read any of the reviews of this restaurant before dining there (luckily or else I probably wouldn't have gone), and am surprised at the negative comments in most of them. The service is about as good as any Asian restaurant I have eaten at and the food (spring rolls, dumplings, a chicken and beef entree) was of a fairly good standard. I watched one of the chefs slicing up ducks throughou...
Despite all the hype this restaurant is not what it's cracked up to be. It represents the best of NYC attitude and the worst of Asian cuisine, and service. The food was mediocre but the service was terrible.
This is the worst restaurant I have ever been to in my life. I really mean that. These people here do not like Asian customers at all. They tried to seat us downstairs just like what they try to do with all their other Asian customers. When we request to go back upstairs, they were gave us attitudes. May I say we made reservation in advance too! They said something like this: If the boss say ok t...
The Peking Duck was average (not the best that I've had.) The other food was below average. The servers all had an attitude: unwilling to serve. We went there for a group birthday dinner and felt rushed out of the restaurant. Will not return.
I always wanted to try this place, Let me first by telling you, we made reservations. When my party arrive they proceeded to get us downstairs into the basement. The basement Stinks! It smells like OLD humid air. There were no one else in the basement besides us, and there were open tables upstairs. (yes we are asian). I proceeded to ask the host if we can be seated upstairs, after alot of talk a...
Let me say that there is nothing wrong with the food. However, the service and the discrimination that this restaurant dishes out is unbelievable. I'm surprised there haven't been lawsuits filed yet. YES they do discriminate against asians. This place is a pure tourist trap that would rather have the asians sitting in the basement while the non-asians sit in the main dining room. Let me expl...
service was very bad, so I only gave 8% tip because they deserved no more. my girlfriend is half-chinese and heard them say that we must be Jewish because all J's are stingy, the Germans should have exterminated us. I don't know how this shop can still have 4 stars when many of the reviews are no more than 1 star. It's ironic that they got voted for best Chinese restaurant in NY last year. I thin...
lazy and poor service. the server only insterested to serve the people that they know. If you don't go there frequent enough and the server doesn't recongize you then it mean you will get extremely poor services. I hate this place. I won't eat there again. The peking duck is not that special. The food taste worst than a take out chinese restaurant.
My experience is for all to know at the Peking Duck House on Mott Street.
When you eat in a recommended restaurant and a waiter pours a bucket full of ice water down a young ladies back leaving her dress drenched and can't find a way to apologize I wonder how it will feel like for
the next person that gets burned by a terrine of hot noodles.
I have never experienced such rude and unprofessiona...
Most of the bad reviews here deal with bad service. We haven't had great service, but we go here for the food, which is always exemplary and meets or goes above our expectations. To be honest, I haven't ever had great service at any Chinatown restaurant--I've always been told that that's how it's always been. (I'm sure there are those who will disagree with me and name a 100 restaurants that h...
I love the duck here and the fact that this is a top Asian restaurant makes it better. I read some reviews on City Search and to me they were unfounded because the staff does not discriminate but make the atmosphere family friendly for all races and they give you great service no matter if you eat upstairs or downstairs.
After reading many reviews we went for a friend's birthday. Although there were tables upstairs we were seated downstairs at a dark corner table. We ordered and paid for a whole duck, but we did not get the entire duck and the staff did not carve the duck at our table. In addition, it was dry and not flavorful. When we left we saw people eating duck upstairs and it was clear that the qualit...
Johnny Lee, I?m disheartened to read your review. I personally know the family that owns Peking Duck House, and they are a proud Chinese family, made up of four brothers from Shanghai who opened these chains of restaurants, all of them upholding Chinese tradition yet embracing American modernism. I have been going to Peking Duck House all my life and I?m sorry to hear that you are misinterpreti...
I finally tried this place after much hesitation. I read all the reviews and it seemed like a one of those restaurants that has good food and bad service which is quite common unfortunately. I am used to this concept and sometimes it adds character. This is not the case. This is a tourist trap for anyone who is not asian. My party was seated in the basement with every other asian group while...
The Peking Duck here is the best I've ever had in a restaurant. In my experience the service has always been exemplary. The person that said the service was terrible and they'd had better Peking duck elsewhere, went on to say they hadn't stayed to eat, they walked out before they were seated. Makes the review suspect doesn't it? I don't normally write reviews, but I've eaten here several time...
All I can say is WOW! We got a recommendation from a local new yorker at Yankees game... it was spot on! Best Peking Duck I have ever had! I don't know how anyone could complain about the service? The restuarant was full and they had a wall of waiters and bus boys almost always ready to take a plate or refill your drinks. Definately try an entree with your duck... we got Generals Chicken and...
I don't understand why people even want to go back to this place. The service was BAD, RUDE and not accommendating at all. The food...trust me it is not as good as they said. You are paying for their expensive decor which they paid a fortune for and now you as the customer is paying for it. I am had just as good if not better peking duck from other restaurants and guess what that $35 per person s...
I am so confused on the past few reviews of Peking Duck House. The restaurant is consistently one of the best in China Town. It has by far the best Peking Duck, there is no second place. The food is always delicous, try the sizzling rice shrimp soup. The sizzling prawns is also a good choice as an entree. We had the House Special Menu which was $35 per person, it including soups, an appetiz...
A few friends and I came here a few days ago. And I feel services should be number one. If you want good service and good food. This is not the place to come and explore chinese food. The waiters & manager looked so bored. For the reviewer before me, don't feel bad about bad service to non-asian. I'm asian, and we were treated the same....BAD SERVICE & RUDE!!!!!!
There are many chinese re...
We went into peking duck house, all the seats inside were taken so they tried to put us by the entrance in which no one was sitting outside. my mom was upset its cold cause of the poor door construction. So i told the waiter i called to reserve a table you told me its quiet so i dont need to, then when we arrived they were not accommodating. So we had a feeling they treat non-asians better. S...
Good duck, need an exterminator to come, there was an insect on the wall. Not so clean, to charge this much, would not really recommend, makes you think twice about eating this food.
I am Chinese and originally from North Carolina. Having had Peking duck in a variety of places (China, North Carolina, California, Washington DC, other places in NYC), I'd have to say that the duck at Peking Duck House is BY FAR the WORST I have ever had. I expected so much more out of a NYC fine dining hot spot, and was severely disappointed. First of all, the service was definitely not upsca...
First off let me say that I dine out very frequently and I have seen my fair share of good and bad restaurants. I have never written a review before but this is the one time I believe something has to be said. The service was absolutely horrible. We made reservations for 7 people and when we arrived the place was half empty. Half of us arrived 15 minutes early including my 75 year old grandmo...
I went to Pekin Duck House alone, looking to experiment the great pleasure of a good pekin duck. The problem was that the menu does not include a one-person pekin duck dish. The minimum is two persons.
As the waiter told me the two-person pekin duck would be too much for me, I asked him for alternatives. He suggested me to order two plates (crispy duck and some kind of pork), which he said wou...
I am originally from beijing so I know what a good roasted peking duck tastes like. this is definately not it. the duck is not freshly roasted, it has been sitting under the IR lamp for hours, skin is not crispy. the most funny thing is the pancake, they use tortillla for the wrap of the duck!!! I do not know how can this business servive in new york china town...
We were a group of 5 Chinese people. Outside of the waiters, we were the only Asians there. Never a good sign at a Chinese restaurant. The decor is actually pretty nice for Chinatown, but the food and service was lacking. First of all, the Peking Duck was alright, but instead of the fluffy white flour buns, you get a huge tortilla with a weird smell. Most good Peking Duck places will also pr...
We called for reservations, but were told that they were limited to people who want a $24 prix fixe menu with only one duck per table. No thanks. So we got there at 5:45 and told the harried maitre d' "we don't know how many will show up." We waited for 5 people and then got a table. We ended up being 9. Though obviously not happy with our expansion, the waiters remained polite and accommodated ...
Food is average, just nice ambience because it's newly renovated, rude customer service.
The decor is modern and definitely more hip than anything else in the neighborhood, plus it's a bit more clean. However, it's a very cramped space, especially on a busy Saturday night when you're dining elbow to elbow. It's also very loud, especially upstairs, such that you may not be able to hear what your dinner companion is saying. Make reservations or stand on line. I had the dumplings an...
I've never had Peking Duck so didn't hesitate when a colleague invited me out for a Chinese New Year lunch celebration. The menu was a bit pricey but with four people, the Peking Duck special is not a bad deal at all. Everything we had was very very tasty.
I would recommend this place to anyone looking for good Chinese food in NYC, especially among the thousands of other restaurants in Chinato...
This restaurant was like entering another world. The place was full of feng shui in a modern sheik way. It was a complete change from outside in Chinatown. The food was simply amazing. Yes we had to wait but what place in NYC do you not have to wait? The people are all extremely polite and helpful. The duck was carved in front of us and was so amazing I wasn't sure if I should eat faster so I ge...
I have been to the Peking Duck House many times over the past few years and I always leave happy. The duck is well-prepared, juicy and perfectly sliced. The accompanying vegetables have been fresh 95% of the time, and the pancakes are always excellent. The Chinese food is also decent standard fare, but go for the duck. They are busy, but I have never needed reservations for groups smaller tha...
Walked in one evening with a friend, and was promptly turned away since we didn't have a reservation. Called a few weeks later to make a reservation, and called a second time to move the reservation back one hour only to have the receptionist bark "just show up," before he slammed the phone in my ear.
This is the best Peking duck place in NY. All 5 times I have been there, I haven't been disappointed. The duck meat is moist and the skin is crispy. The other dishes on the menu is above average, but I would never go to this place only for the entrees. Service is good when the servers are in a good mood, which is typical of a lot of traditional asain restaurants. For the times I went, the se...
We've eaten at this top-notch Chinatown restaurant many times and the namesake 'peking duck' is really terrific. The other entrees and appetizers are as good as most other local places, but don't miss the duck which is usually prepared tableside. Try to eat upstairs - downstairs is somewhat tight. Service was absolutely fine - no complaints!
I have been a regular of this restaurant for years. Peking ducks are excellent, but the other foods are just okay. We ordered shark fin soup one time and it is pretty bad. The service and decoration are much better than average of restaurants in Chinatown. The Chinese lady who is a owner is very friendly.
Some friends of mine wanted to get some good duck the other day. So we thought why not try Peking Duck House in Chinatown. Well, wrong choice!!! Over the years I have had my share of ducks, and my trip to Peking Duck House was certainly the worst. The skin was overly burnt and the meat was dry, as if someone forgot the duck in a deep fryer. Maybe they gave us a reheated stale duck. We were ...
Best Peking Duck I have had, and some of the best Chinese Food PERIOD! A great place for groups with a great deal. I recommend the scallops. And the hostess is a tasty dish in herself...
The food is good, very crowded, loud restaurant in the heart of china town... good for large groups..the peking duck rolls are good !
I had the worst service ever in this restaurant. It wasn't my first time there; I've been there many times before. Their service has deteriorated soo much in a few months. It took FOREVER to order. I tried making eye contact with the maitre'd to get him to take my order. He entirely avoided me altogether. After my friends and I finished dinner, I paid the check with a $5.00 (b/c that's all they...
This restaurant is by far the worst I have ever been to. The food was delivered cold. Yes, delivered and not presented. We had to help make room on the table as our food arrived. There was not much of service, especially considering that there were more staff than customers on the floor. I would think if we had to pay $20 for a dish of 10 shimps, that it would be at least warm. Having been to Bei...
We went there couple times and always had the same dish: Peking duck as a main dish to share between 2 or 3 people and scallion pancakes as appetizer. The service is always good and the food is excellent.
