Carolyn is absolutely the best stylist I have ever had and I would be lost without her! She has had advanced training at Deva in NYC, and it really shows! Carolyn knows how to listen and how to communicate; it is obvious she enjoys her clients.
Laura was fantastic. She was extremely consultative and helpful with her suggestions. She explained the dry curly cut process as she went and the day-to-day techinique. I'm very low maintenance and rolled my eyes at the suggestion of all the scrunching and such. But I figured I'd give it a go. This is about the first time in my 41 years that I've been really excited about a cut. My hair now curls...
Four times a year, I travel from Hartford, CT to this salon to see Teresa for a cut and color. She has made my traditionally knotty/frizzy hair look like it should - a headful of luscious curls. She gives her full attention to me when I'm there and my color looks great too! I'd reco her to anyone!
Carolyn at East 42nd Street Salon is the very best at working with curly hair. I saw her for a consult after a bad cut (curly girls get way too many of those), and she gave me a few tips to deal with my hair while the cut was growing out. The tips, just a couple, were great, and helped me like my hair and only want to wear it curly (instead of the fall-back, round-brush blow-out). Then, when my h...
I saw Natalie for brows and a lash tint. Great job.
Carolyn is a great stylist/colorist for those of us with curly hair; she is a true artist! This is a wonderful overall neighborhood salon.
I finally found someone who knows how to cut and style long hair. CHERI is my trusted hair stylist and color artist -- she knows how to cut, loves to do it, and also has given me the best color/highlights that not only look amazing initially, but evolve beautifully. I am a brunette and typically get blond highlights. She stands behind her work and LISTENS to what you need. I found her by chance...
Such a nice, helpful and knowledgeable staff. Never been upset with a haircut or color job. Kyle is the best!
I am listened to and suggestions are made to keep my
look up-to-date. It's great to have one place where you can
get so many other services-manicures, pedicures, lash tinting, facials and massages
first of all, so many FAKE revies, wow!
the place is nice and clean, good service, skilless stylists, crupped my pretty curly hair, and got me realy mad.
will not come back!
and please ignore the fake reviews!
My wife and I have both been having our hair cut by Cheri for over two years now. Cheri is a detail oriented, meticulous stylist who always provides an excellent cut. She listens to what we want, and provides us with excellent service. We both highly recommend Cheri to anyone looking for a stylist.
I visit Minneapolis several times a year and I always make an appointment with Cheri Webster for a cut, color and a deep conditioning. She works on one person at a time and gives her undivided attention to each client. She is very knowledge about hair, products, and is creative in her styling. The best in town
I went in to east 42nd street salon awhile ago for a hair-cut. I saw Cheri Webster he gave me a beautiful color and cut, she gave me what I want but put her own creative twist on it. I recommend her!
Cheri is a great stylist for both cuts and colors. I had an idea of what I wanted and Cheri made it work perfectly. The cut and color complimented one another very well, transforming my self image.
I've been seeing Gen A for facials and eyebrow waxing for over a year, since she was in cosmetology school. She's a recent addition to the salon. I followed her to East 42nd Street Salon, because she's the only one I'll have do my facials. The massage portion of her facial is amazing. And she really knows what products to use so she doesn't irritate my skin. I've never broken out after one o...
Go see Summer!!! She is soooooo amazing...getting a brazilian is about as relaxing as going in for your annual exam, but I think I have found my gal. I felt very comfortable with her from the start, she was efficient and very thorough which is HUGE for me. There is nothing worse than getting a wax job and getting home to find hair left behind!!! So, if you are on the market for a wax gal, you fou...
I have been here 4 or 5 times. The first two curly cuts were ok, but the last 2 have been bad! When I have to go to a $14 haircut place to fix a $65 haircut, I will not be returning!!!
I'm 53 and up to last year have had maybe 12 haircuts I didn't do myself. I gave up on going to salons after several disasters. My hair is very tight curls but fine. When it's wet I look like I'm balding. I recently got a job where I need to look professional. I despaired of ever having suitable hair but decided to try Carolyn at East 42nd Street. We talked about what I wanted and frankly, I ...
I have curly hair. I tried East 42nd for the first time a while ago because they claim to be the place to go for curly hair. I thought the cut was OK and the service was fair (somewhat pretentious and I-know-better-than you) - and I felt extremely rushed. When I scheduled my appointment, I mentioned that my hair often took a long time to cut. They said not to worry (they're "professionals") etc. ...
Brazilians by Summer are awesome! Cleanest and most painless wax I've ever had--and that's 10 years ! I honestly hadn't had good experiences with Hard wax but Summer was so skilled, I hardly felt a thing and the job was certainly done!
I have been going to Teresa's salon, the East 42nd Street Salon, since it actually was on East 42nd street. I have hard hair to cut. It is thick in back, very, very thin at the temples, and wavey, but just on one side. It is also thin and fly away. I had pretty much given up on getting a decent cut - I figured I just had bad hair. And then I went to Teresa. I looked great on my very first...
I have been a customer of Teresa's for over 10 years, but I can never remember the phone number so I come to this site to get the number. That is when I noticed the review that someone was unhappy with her cut. So I just wanted to say that I have always been happy with Teresa's cuts, and love her personality. Every time I get a great cut and she makes me laugh. I tell you it is a good combina...
I had tried Ouidad (a curly hair salon in New York) and was not impressed. I have searched for stylist after stylist to cut my hair, and my journey ended at East 42nd Street Salon. I read ALL the review on citysearch and decided to give Teresa a try, and I'm telling you it is the BEST HAIRCUT I've ever had. Teresa really communicated with me and gave me some styling tips that were very helpf...
I went to this salon based on the CitySearch positive reviews and the fact that they are promoting themselves as curly hair specialists. I am extremely disappointed in the level of service I received and the results of three haircuts from Teresa, the owner of the salon.
Like many people with naturally curly or wavy hair, it's been a challenge for me to find a stylist who not only loves my hai...
I'm here to talk about NATALIE and ... you guessed it... the hair 'down there'. I'm 45, divorced, and have had one LTR since my divorce. Then there was a 2 year hiatus, and then.... I met a hottie fireman. He was so 'well-groomed' (i.e. 'manscaped') that I started to feel self-concious about my unkempt downtown area. Being the otherwise hip and trendy girl that I like to think I am, I decide...
I went in with a fuzzy head of curly hair and let Theresa go at it. This is, by far..the BEST haircut I have EVER had!! This new method of cutting curly hair is wonderful and Theresa knows just what to do for your hair..after looking at it and asking YOU what you would like.
It will be much easier for me to get there after the road construction is done, but the extra travel time is definitely w...
I have been to this salon twice for haircuts and have left completely satisfied both times. Cheri has done a really great job with cutting and styling my somewhat difficult hair! She listens to how I want my hair styled and then surpasses my expectations. I appreciate her gentle touch, her kind personality and her willingness to take her time while styling my hair (instead of just rushing thr...
I've never gotten my hair done here, and it sounds like people like it, but whatever you do, DO NOT get your nails done at this salon. I think it's safe to say that they have their receptionists doing nails with no experience. I went there to get a french manicure for my wedding day with my sisters and we had a horrible experience. Our manicurists were Amanda and Laura (I'm pretty sure the onl...
Sweet place with sweet people.
What I remember most is how fantastic Carolyn, not sure on spelling; is. What amazing talent cutting, styling my hair! She made my hair do things that I didn't even know it could. What talent. You should be on one of those hair genius TV shows, showing off your talent.
I am not an expert but she took the time and showed me how to do it my self at home too. Gr...
I visited the 42nd Street Salon after reading reviews from other users on this site. I had been straightening my hair for 35 years ( I'm 50 years old ) and had come to the end of my rope as far as trying to pretend I had staight hair. I was tired of running from door way to door way on humid days, never going to the Boundry Waters because there was no electricity for my hairdryer, getting a wed...
Theresa was able to understand exactly what I had in mind for my little son's (curly, shaggy, preschool) hair style and gave him his best haircut yet. We're so happy to have found her - she's a real professional and very talented at what she does. I was so impressed that I went in a week later for a haircut of my own. She was very knowledgeable about how to make the most of my curls and I can ...
I just went back to E 42nd Street Salon for a second hair cut. My hair is curly and it has been difficult to find a stylist who really knows how to cut my hair. The first time I went in, Carolyn cut my hair and showed me how to care for it. She cut it dry, which was a first for me. But I loved it. The second time I went in, Teresa cut my hair. She cut it wet and the style is just as good as my fi...
The salon is nice and my hair looks good, but the stylist (Carolyn) doesn't really listen to my requests. I've been to her a few times and it's as though she is going to do what she wants to do regardless of what I say because she knows better. I went in for a trim and when I commented on how short it was she said no it's not. If you don't have a haircut in mind when you go in and have an extra h...
Upon further investigation, I asked around and have heard nothing but good things about this salon, though i haven't been there myself.
I have curly hair. Until I read the book CURLY GIRL, I tried to pretend I didn't. I've been using Massey's techniques as best I can for the past two years or so with decent results. What was missing was a stylist who understood them. Imagine my joy when I discovered that Carolyn, at East 42nd Street Salon, had been TRAINED in Massey's techniques. I called for an appointment immediately, and boy, ...
It's been over a week and I am very happy with everything: hair cut, location, cost, and the atmosphere of the salon. I have never gotten so many compliments on my haircut as I have this time around. Even from complete strangers. Angie was a great stylist. She really listens and also gives feed back. Very honest which I appreciate. I'll be back in a few months. See you soon, Angie!
I went in to get a brow wax and tint from Desiree and couldn't believe how great they turned out.
She really has an eye for color and shape. On the same day I got a haircut from Cheri. Cheri is the most
artistic, creative , and personable stylist I have ever had. The cut was aaawsome!! I plan on getting my lashes permed next. I can't wait to try all the services.
East 42nd Street Salon has been my salon for several years. I am a loyal customer because Nancy Root does fabulous colors and cuts. People frequently compliment me on my hair, and it's all because of Nancy.
Cheri has been my stylist for over one year now. I allow her to come up with a design plan and color of her choice as she is the expert. She has not failed me yet. Recently I decided to use the salons other services and had Desiree give me a brow wax and tint. Then she took it a step further and I had her give me lash extensions. They look natural , feel great and I wish I had done this sooner. ...
It was quite an experience for me. Imagine a woman at the age of 45 with long hair, which she had last cut short at the age of 27, that would be me! I was scared to death, literally shaking when I came to the salon to have my hair cut short because of the hair loss problems. But I was absolutely blessed to have it done by Teresa, a real professional! I saw her working on the other client and it t...
I was so disappointed with my haircuts and was unable to find a good stylist no matter how much I paid. I was referred to Nancy by a very good friend and fell in love with her right away. It can take years to find a great stylist and when you do, you will follow them to the ends of the earth to get that perfect cut. She not only makes you look great, she is the most personable stylist I have e...
I want to second the last review about Nancy. She is truly an artist when it comes to hair, not only cutting it but coloring it as well. I have a certain way I like my hair, tousled, you might say, and Nancy helps me pull that off with precision, style, and age appropriate flair. (I am in my mid-fifties and I look styling!) She also cuts my son's hair and she relates to kids well. I highly re...
Nancy at the East 42nd St Salon is incredible. She's an artist really! She's done my hair for more than a decade now. It's always flawless! She aims for perfection and achieves it. Always! You'll not find a more skilled professional in the Twin Cities. To say that I recommend her is an understatement. She's a professional's professional at the very top of her game. By the way, she knows a lot abo...
Just made an appointment. We'll see. I had to give a credit card number to get the appointment because they require it for services that will cost more than $50. If you cancel with less than 24 hours notice, they charge you - what if you or your child gets sick or if something else prevents you from going?
I've been trying to find someone new for along time, and a friend recommended Nancy. I've never been so pleased. I love the way my hair moves, and the highlights are absolutely gorgeous.
I have been a regular of East 42nd Street for a few months now, and I felt compelled to write a review after seeing the poor one recently posted.
I have had nothing but great experiences at the salon. I have been seeing the same stylist (Gail) and have had interactions with all the other stylists and they are all very friendly and professional. I also frequently talk with the other clients t...
I just had my second cut with Cheri...she's fantastic. I don't think I've had a stylist pay as much attention to detail as she does. She truly takes her time and you can tell all of her focus is on you. I also am loving their new location...it's a really relaxing environment. Best salon experience I've ever had. :)
East 42nd street is the best salon I've ever been to. Not only is the new location beautiful, the employees are friendly and make you feel at home. I have curly hair and it's tough to find a stylist that can work well with it. Carolyn is a master. She gave me many tips to help me style my own hair better. I will definately be back!
I saw Jamie for a back wax and she was very professional and made me feel very comfortable. I went on my lunch break and she was able to get me in and out quickly.
Gail is awesome and knows what she is doing. She has great recomendations for haircolor and cuts. I've never had someone know how to analyze my hair based on the shape of my face. I have had more compliments on my hair than I ever have.
I am new Minneapolis, visited the salon, got a fantastic cut, color, and highlights from Kris. She rocks! My hair looks great, and I left with a stomach ache from laughing so hard. Go see Kris, she is a true artist without the "attitude".
Theresa was wonderful. I am 35 years old and I can safely say that this was the ONLY haircut that I LOVED. Thank you.
Anyone who's ever read "Patty Jane's House of Curl" (and what 30-40something woman hasn't?) already has a good picture of what E. 42nd St. Salon is like. I've had more fun there than in most of the bars in town. Teresa has the patience of a saint, both with cutting and coloring my hair to my annoyingly exacting standards, or allowing me to have 8 gal pals in for a birthday party complete with ful...
I was new in town and I went to East 42nd Street Salon. Teresa is my stylist. She gave the best haircut I've ever had!
I'VE BEEN GOING TO TERESA FOR 6 YEARS AND I JUST LOVE HER. I WENT TO ANOTHER SALON ONE TIME AND REGRETTED IT. I WOULD NEVER GO TO ANYONE ELSE.
Finally, someone did a factual rating. Nancy and the East 42nd St. salon is truly the top of the heap. Nancy's got a great eye for just the right cut. A real professional. You might have to wait a bit to see her...but it will be worth it. She truly cares about her clients. I've had highlights done by Nancy that people just say I look great without really noticing the change. A trip to the ...
A neighborhood salon with world-class talent. As good as any of the more expensive and hard-to-get-to salons. It's as good as any Oak Street salon in Chicago. Nancy is a color genius with great insight and capabilities. Don't bother driving into Uptown when East 42nd Street Salon is just around the corner.
