I've only eaten here once, but I'll remember it for a long time. Quite simply the best piece of meat I've ever eaten. I don't remember the sides, it was all eclipsed entirely by the steak. Every bite was fantastic, and although I had resolved to bring some home with me, I couldn't stop myself from finishing it off.
I grant that some of my perceptions may have been due to their excellent win...
My first time visiting Murray's as many have said their steaks are better than Manny's. Having been to both now, I prefer Manny's over Murray's. I honestly want to give a good review for this restaurant as they have been in business for 63 yrs and I entirely support local Minneapolis restaurants but the over salted food really killed the experience for me. We ordered the butter knife steak for 3 ...
My husband and I have been going here for the last 4 years for our wedding anniversary...This last time we were a little dissapointed in our service and food! We ordered the huge appetizer and it was a little burnt....My steak wasn't that hot and it was too salty. Our server wasn't as friendly as she has been in the past! At these prices, I found too many problems! This year we decided to try...
We ordered the "silver butter knife steak" for two and were grossly disappointed. Our server brought it out, and as she was carving it at the table, she had the sniffles. Nothing worse than wanting to enjoy a great steak when all you can think about is your server sniffling over your food. The decor is outdated. Although some people don't like the ultra-tendy restaurants, or change, but this...
Murray's is an enjoyable way to experience an old-style steakhouse in Minneapolis. It lives up to its billing and doesn't have pretense to being anything beyond that, so if visit the website and read about it you should know what to expect. For my pre-Orpheum Theatre dinner on a weeknight it fit our expectations well.
The service was excellent and the food was served promptly. The trademark Si...
My dad wanted to bring me to Murray's because as he says, 'anyone who lives in MN should try it once.' When we got there, the old charm brings you back right away. We were promptly greeted by our server who asked if we needed a few moments. Once we were set, we ordered; I had the filet of beef which I requested Bearnaise sauce, a baked potato and a caesar (per the previous reviews I had to try)...
I was starving for a good steak and looked through the Minneapolis-St.Paul magazine in my hotel room searching for a place to eat. Just around the corner from my hotel lies an unassuming exterior. Dressed in shorts and a t-shirt, I entered Murray's and was greeted by a friendly hostess in a dress and matre'd in a business suit. Even though I was dressed very casually, I was treated as if I was...
What can I say. Murray's is an Iconic restaurant that has been and still is 5-Star Excellent. Everytime we dine at Murray's we get friendly faces, 1st class service and Outstanding Food.
We have been going to Murray's for family celebrations for years, and they have never disappointed. The staff has always been nothing but kind, even when our then 10 year old tipped over his ice water onto the very thick tablecloth during my parents' 40th anniversary dinner. The garlic toast is to die for, and the filet mignon is incredible. If someone can top their steaks on their home grill, I ...
Murray's is known as the original Minneapolis Steak Restaurant, for a reason. Murray's sells the best steak I have ever had, the Silver Butter Knive Steak. Now this is not a cheap steak, but it is worth every penny. It melts in your mouth, literally. This restaurant has been around for decades, and the traditional decor of 1946 still exists. There is an amazing presence of history in this restaur...
This restaurant had the most amazing lobster bisque ever! You HAVE to try it! It is know for it's wonderful steak and the steak is wonderful but WOW. The bisque just melts in your mouth! I loved the piano and violin players. The place was beautiful with all those mirrors and chandeliers. The only thing I would change is make it bigger so that you can have more private dining. It's a little crowde...
I still recall the exquisite silver butterknife steak grilled rare to perfection and the most hospitable and prompt staff. Also the elegant setting and decor. I have eaten steaks all over the country, Florida to California, Washington State to Arizona in every conceivable place and price range and Murray's is in the top two. Now the top one as the original Chris n' Pitts in North Hollywood, CA is...
I've been eating at Murry's since my Dad brought me there in the early 50's. I've always been treated like a "special guest", even when they don't know who my Dad was. I no longer live in Mpls., but when I come for a visit, I always make a special trip to Murry's. It's like "comming home". Food, service, ambiance, memories--- all are special!
If you haven't had a burger for lunch at Murray's, you don't know what you are missing. The 1/2 pound ground sirloin -almost wonder if they grind it on site - is pattied very thick (almost like a meatball) and seared with a slightly salty crust preserving every ounce of juice. Served on an onion bun, there is no need for adding cheese or any condiments, it's pure joy. You cannot miss this one!
The silver butterknife steak was good, but not breathtaking, and definitely not worth the money. I've made better steaks on the grill. I am always willing to pay good money for good food, but I really didn't think it was worth it. The salad might as well of come from mcdonalds, there was nothing special about the potatoes, and the martinis weren't special either. Overall I was pretty disappoi...
Went there with my girlfriend and had a great meal. I liked the old time ambiance. Service and food is suberb. Spendy but if there is a steak house worth it, Murray's is the place. Good drink menu. Liked the live piano also. Good spacing
I ws very impressed by every part of our visit to Murray's: the food (supreme!), the decor (charming) and the service (perfect). I will definitely be back for their butter knife steak and butter spaetzle.
Going out to dinner should be more then excellent food, it's an entire experience. Murray's atmosphere is created by years and years of experience. The food is excellent, but being waited on by the same person who waited on me at my first communion diiner is worth coming back over and over!!! Ruth's Chris, Mortons and the like will never have this kind of atmosphere or charm.
Honestly. I've eaten at Murray's twice, and both times the experience was nothing short of sublime. The ambience takes you back to the forties (or shows you the forties if you're not that old), and the wait staff has been great -- maybe because I've come in a decent-sized group both times. The mashed potatoes and desserts are darn good, but who are we fooling? This is all about the steak (funny h...
Probably one of the finest restaurants in the USA! I have yet to meet it's equal in my travels. It has provided continuous fine dining for many years. The Silver Butterknife Steak is truly a dining experience.
I vote this place best steakhouse in Minnesota. If you order it up Pittsburgh Blue, they don't even batt an eyelash. Pittsburgh Blue is a steak cooked very rare, but burned on the outside to a steely blue. MMMM!
I have eaten in many steakhouses from New York to LA and Murray's simply had the best steak I have ever eaten anywhere. Their Dinner Steak is incomperable.
Measure a steak house by its steak and you can't go wrong. Mix too much other stuff in there and that is is the only way anyone could rank Murray's lower than No. 1.
I have tried all the Twin Cities steak houses... (also NYC steak houses)....Murrays is hands down the best...Its $$$...but worth it
My wife and I tried a bunch of side dishes at the bar (she was abstaining for Lent). The beer selection is poor (no surprise), the side dishes were small and under-flavored by even steakhouse standards. The "vegetable medley" looked like it was Birdseye from the freezer. The fries were nothing special. Of course, the real story here are the steaks and since I did not have one, I cannot comment. B...
Murray's is the quintessential Minneapolis Steakhouse. In fact, on our visit the 2nd and 3rd generation owners were both buzzing around the dining room to the serenade of the piano and violin. The silver butterknife steak for three was excellent, one of the best steaks we've ever had. The sides were only OK (but that's not what you come for). The raspberry pie was impressive. The berries had ...
Great food, better service, unique, original, unmatched ambience. Beats going to one of the chain houses anyday.
The restaurant is from out of the past which a lot of people still enjoy. The waitresses are older and show it the way they treat the public. They don't bounce up and say "Hi guys" to people who are old enought to be at best there fathers and in some cases there grandfathers. It is called respect. These servers work to get the best shifts. The service shows it. The value is good. It is a special ...
I've enjoyed Murray's steaks for 13 years now. The ambience is classic to nearly musty but unusually consistent as is the food. The staff is attentive and can still quickly move around even without the aid of a Lil' Rascal scooter. I prefer the locker-aged New York strips over the filet mignon's and the evening sommelier has typically been square on the beans with qualified recommendations. M...
there's really only two reasons to go to Murray's, aside from Murray, I suppose. The silver butter knife steak special. Fork tender is the word here. Served by people who must have been standing there when Murray decided to build a restaurant around them. Experience bith - they're worth it.
Murray's has been an excellent dining establishment for years and years. I've never heard of anyone being disappointed when dining there. Sometime the wait can be excruciating in the evening - but you're always treated with class.
The garlic bread is like none other. I recall when Mrs. Murray would watch over the restaurant and the garlic bread with great pride and aplomb.
With the silver butter knife steak you can not miss. I loved being taken back to a romantic era. My now husband and I enjoyed a romantic evening and split the silver butter knife steak. The best steak I have ever had. I grew up in the twin cities and now live in New Orleans and there is no comparison. If you do not want steak, you do not have reason to be here.
While the steaks are good, they're not great. Unfortunately, the quality of food served here has deteriorated over the years.
After traveling the world, I still can not find a steak that holds a flame to the dry aged perfection that Murray's serves. I have been to Murray's on several occasions and can't fathom that people can rate the food a zero! Preparing a dry aged steak is an art and Murray's has created a masterpiece. The last time I was there the British Broadcasting Company was there because Murray's was on the '...
the most delicious garlic toast I have ever tasted, great service and the butterknife steaks are a treat to remember
ATTENTIVE waitstaff. Wonderful, vintage atmosphere. Fantastic food.
Go to Murray's because you want to feel good about the money you pay for an evening out and because you want the best food quality and taste.
You will never be disappointed.
It strikes me that the restaurant had to be around since befor Pearl Harbor. I say this because they have an old Life magazine advertising their silve butter knife steak in a issue dated December 6,1941. So much for history. Simply stated Murray's is the second most over priced and overrated restaurant of this catagor. the only restaurant worse than them is Goodfellow's. Save your money for Manny...
I read a review recently touting Murray's lunch burger special. Unfortunately, the burger, while inexpensive, was overcooked and quite bland. I had asked for medium-rare, and received a grey clod. The service was so-so: missed drinks, non-existent waiter etc... Liked the late 1940s decor.
Cuisine and service that are world-class and do Minneapolis very proud! The barbecue shrimp appetizer is out of this world and so is their sensational garlic toast. Steaks are tender and delicious, and the seafood is top-notch. Romantic piano and violin often make for a perfect romantic evening. At Murray's everyone is always served and treated royally, without airs or presumption. You really fe...
