The food and the service is wonderful. I used to dine at mura and waraji regularly back in the days before they went down hill and found sono to be step above them and the rest. I am glad I found this place. Their sushi is well prepared and presented. The rolls (screaming o, white tiger, crunchy diablo, french kiss) were some of the best sushi rolls i've had and sashimi was very fresh and tas...
This is a great place for sushi in downtown. I go once or twice a month and always happy about my experience. The mood is hotspot and fun is great without breaking the bank.
I adore the sushi and sushimi at Sono! Everytime I'm in town this is the go-to place for late lunch, early dinner, dinner, and drinks with friends. Reminds me of a swanky lil lounge in Atlanta, NY, or Miami. I high recommend you giving it a try. You won't be disappointed.
I dine at Sono probably few times a month for the past year or so and have had great experience most of the time. I do recommend going in smaller groups. I once took 12~14 people and the service was slow and the food took longer then normal even with a reservation. The service can be a little rushed sometimes but never really had problem with the food. So go in smaller groups and you'll be fi...
Service, atmosphere, food quality, food presentation, and service all A+. They use the highest quality ingredients and spare nothing in preparation. They also have a great selection of the less common tane, such as sea urchin. When sitting at the sushi bar the expertise is obvious. The chefs are very friendly, which makes for a great experience. We live an hour outside Raleigh and we will...
My boyfriend went on a date here for the first time recently. It was awesome!! The sushi was great--of the Raleigh sushi places I would rate it right up there with Waraji. The hostess was really friendly, and our waiter was extremely helpful in helping us decide which rolls to get. The service was outstanding! My only complaint was that the sake decanters (we had a small and a large) were pretty ...
I have eaten here around 10 times and can say the food is great. Very fresh tasting and they do a good job on presentation. My experience with service is mixed so we usually sit at the bar or sushi bar and it has still taken a long time to get drinks on certain nights..
Overall, Highly recommend Sono
I didn't expect much when I went for the first time; i work across street and it took me a year to go in. But once I did, I am hooked. I have been back one other time for take out and WOW! I plan on going at least 1x a week now. The food is very, very good and the amount you get is plentiful. Go.
The sushi was very good and martini too! We had a great seat by the window on Fayetteville street - stayed cool - but felt like we were out on the street. Good times and good food
Sono is a fun new sushi restaurant downtown with the very best seaweed salad I have ever had. They offer a lot of non-traditional rolls which might put off some of those sushi snobs out there - but hey, it's fun and delicious so it's hard to complain. For those out there who might be scared or less knowledgeable about their sushi options - the Sono menu provides a picture of each entree so you se...
Before I order sushi, I will inspect the tuna first through the glass case at the sushi bar. I look for good color, grain and freshness. Sono Restaurant consistently excels in sushi quality in all these catagories. There sushi is always very fresh and served correctly including temperature and presentation. I have ordered several dinner meals there and each time have left fully satisfied and happ...
I heard from someone that this place has a five course meal for 35 bucks on Mondays and that it was pretty good. So I decided to drive thirty minutes from Durham with my girl and her parents to give it a try. Honestly, I was expecting little tiny dishes to come out but I was wrong. We had a full size salad with house dressing which was very good. Then came a scallop appetizer that was amazing...
I just moved in to one of the new condos here in downtown from north raleigh and was excited to find that there is a sushi restaurant walking distance away. I've visited 3 times so far and I was very pleased with the service and the quality of their food. My wife and I ordered the yellow tail with jalapenos and the tuna tataki on our first visit and it's a regular order everytime we go. We the...
I moved here from cali few months ago and I am a sushi junky. I live and work in downtown so I dine here frequently. One of few sushi joints in town worth going to and I've tried most of them in the triangle. Not as good as some one the places in cal but definitely one of the top in this area. Their entrees are good too but their rolls and sashimi are the stars. The special rolls are unique ...
We were recomended to go dine at Sono by few of NC locals, and was it a experience of my life.
When we walked in place seems like semi up-scale sushi place to dine. Hostess knew what she was doing and we were expecting to have "good sushi" this NC friends were talking about. My wife and I ordered some rolls and sashimi waitress recomended. And guess what we got...we got large rolls like you see ...
although it was slighty expensive, that's kind of what i was expecting for the location. all the food was great and fresh, and the sashimi sampler had much better stuff on it that i thought it would. definitely worth a visit for a classy night out, but i'm not sure why all these people are complaining about the valet parking when there are about a MILLION parking garages all around this area th...
The food is terribly over priced with service that is non-existent. Don't be surprised to be sitting for 45 minutes waiting on someone to take your money. The money you just wasted on B grade sushi.
I don't often post reviews, but this restaurant definitely deserves one.
The menu is excellent and very varied in its selection (you can check out a copy on their website). I took my dad to this restaurant after doing a good amount of research about sushi restaurants in the area... he is an incredibly picky eater (for those sushi lovers who are familiar with Tojo's... THAT is what my dad comp...
I ate dinner at Sono last night. I enjoyed the food, but the service was disappointing. The waitress assigned to our table seemed in a rush even though, the restaurant was not that crowded. She would whisk by our table without giving us a chance to say our full order. We had to be quick or she would be gone.
At one point one of the wine glasses fell on the table and the wait staff was just...
I love good sushi. I always say, if you have never had it before, go somewhere good first. I have been to Sono several times, and each time I have had their special rolls, I have not been disappointed. Prices may be on the higher end of sushi, but it's worth it, and if you go during lunch, you can get two special rolls for $15. The atmosphere is trendy and the service is pretty decent. I hi...
There are so many Japanese restaurants popping up in the area but none that can compare to this place. This place has by far the most fresh fish around. I'm a little picky when it comes to sashimi in that I don't like frozen products. I don't mind frozen products used on my rolls but I hate it when I get it on my sashimi plate. I tried this place out because a friend of mine told me they have...
Called 3x from PA to obtain a gift certificate for my parents who live in Raleigh. People were nice enough on the phone - but in the end, execution is what really matters. Maybe business is THAT good where they don't need to worry about additional business.
If you are looking for a fancy place to have a dinner this will be a great area to go. Yestoday I went with my family to have dinner for first time and really love their sushi since its my first time to try it at japan express earlier and believe sushi was pretty good actually. So went to try it at other japanese restaurant and sono done a great job on their sushi everything was made to order. Th...
i dont see anyone that could possibly complain about this sushi bar. its not one of the best but its THE BEST sushi bar ive been to in raleigh! this place makes all other sushi-served places look like fast-food restaurants! the atmosphere was perfect. it was soo tranquil esp. during lunch hour. The sushi was some of the most freshest seafood i've ever had! and it actually tasted like REAL SEAFOOD...
This restaurant has it all!! Ambience & great food!!! They have such a unique selection and wide variety of rolls!! So many to choose from the decision is difficult. The fish for the rolls/sushi is always fresh. I have never had a roll that wasn't unbelievably great. Compared to some other sushi restaurants in the area (trust me I've been to quite a few) this is the best hands down!! Skip all the...
No reservation on a friday night and still got immediate seating at the sushi bar. Service was very good and the chef recommendations "not on the menu" were fantastic. Free valet in downtown was a nice treat. We would highly recommend this restaurant. I am taking my wife back for our anniversary dinner. Would recommend reservations for prime seating. The acoustics do tend to get loud if the place...
First of all let me begin by saying I enjoy sushi very much. I'm not just saying this..I eat sushi around 4~5 times a week. I can't go a day without a sushi fix. So obviously i've been to every single sushi restaurant in the area...literally. There are some good ones and then there are some that should be burned down. I have to say I dine at Waraji the most and frequently visit Hayashi, Kank...
Avocado turning bad, mediocre rice, overcooked chicken teriyaki with undercooked vegetables, irregularly cut sushi and greasy tempura. My wife was actually nauseous after this meal.
We ate here on Sunday night before Labor Day, so maybe the B team was in the kitchen, but we won't be going back.
This is the best Sushi my wife and I have ever had. Great atmosphere and the valet parking makes it very easy to get to. Will definitely go back!
The food is great. The sushi is fresh and the variety is nice. I love that they have some items that other places don't have...such as Japanese snapper(yummy) and giant clam among many other fresh fish. Their entrees are not authentic yet very well presented and tasty too. Their special rolls are delicious as well but at time too heavy on the sauces....I always ask the server to tell them go ...
I am so happy to finally see a great sushi restaurant in the area. A great addition to the downtown dining repotoir along with Mint and Fins. This is a fabulous restaurant with great food and awesome sushi. I've been here multiple times and only had one sketchy experience...even then, the manager handled the situation very nicely and turned the situation around to make it a great experience fo...
After looking at the menu for the first time and found lots of non-traditional items I was a little worried that this was just another "NOBU" wanna-be but decided to sit at the sushi bar and try them out. I was surprised by the extensive sushi items on the sushi menu and that they carried so many fresh fish. So I began by asking the sushi chefs what was good and they recommended surprisingly l...
This place is run by the same successful duo who own Mura in North Hills. Very nice interior with stylish bar in front, booths, tables and sushi bar in back.
Got off to a rocky start when I ordered my usual Gibson and the waiter returned from the bar saying they had no cocktail onions. Choose a bottle of sake instead.
The menu presents some items I doubt are on most Japanese menus you'v...
Excellent sashimi. Also, their specialty roll is the Screaming O. We had it, and it's definitely worth the risk, as it was very nicely prepared. Free valet parking is nice also. However, it took 15 minutes to retrieve our car maybe because it was 9p Saturday when we left. Service was good. Quite a romantic evening downtown, and sushi always makes us a little randy. Very nice place.
Awsome Service only exceeded by outstanding sushi. Free Valet Parking was wonderful because of the downtown location. Easy in and easy out. This is a must do if you are looking for the best sushi masterly done. Whoever is coordinating this establishment is doing an outstanding job. Thanks for an outstanding evening sono. See you again soon.
Sono is a terrific restaurant for those of us that work downtown. It is great to have a good sushi place to walk to. They have an awesome sushi lunch special that keeps me there a few times a month! The Screaming O roll is delicious! All of the rolls I have had have been huge - 2 rolls is definitely a large lunch. The atmosphere is terrific, it is really beautiful inside. My only complaints...
I walked in and met a friend at the sushi bar. This is the first time I have ever been here and I am from NY and Miami and only a few weeks here and I felt like I was at home. A very nice gentleman serviced us and I wish I remembered his name he was awesome. The food was great and I will be coming back a least once a week.
We went to Sono for the second time with friends on a Saturday night... as always the service was excellent, recommendations were top notch, and food was very fresh! We loved all of our sushis, drinks (martini's and mixed drinks are about $10 each- kind of pricey) and the appetizers. My only disappointment this time- was the calimari... the last time we had it (about 2 months ago) it was lightl...
Really cool atmosphere, kinda felt like i was in nyc. The sushi was awesome best i've had in Raleigh or in North Carolina. Service was excellent and i'd deffinately go back.
My first Experience was excellent. Service & Food were increadible. The best Sashimi we have ever had. The waiter recomended the Screaming O sushi roll and the Diablo, you need to try them!! Make the trip downtown its worth it.
Sushi was great....I had some fishes that I never had before and they tasted delicious. Hard to find places with this fresh and wide variety of sushi around here....I was very pleased. My date had one of their specials with sea bass and risotto and that was great as well. I hope that the food and the quality will be consistant always. I will definitely be back and try other items on their men...
