I live around the corner from The Bowery Electric, I usually come in after work on weekdays for a drink. The bartenders are always funny, upbeat and a pleasure to chat with. I have met Diane (the manager) on several occasions and she has always been friendly and professional. So after seeing some negative reviews I wanted to post my own. From the door people to bar staff and management, I know m...
This is one of my favorite places for a fun night out, drinking and dancing to great music (preferably 80's) with one exception:
When the downstairs is closed/rented for a private party, this is my least favorite place and I just walk away.
With that one exception, I would want to give this spot a great review.
The music selection really is excellent. The DJ's do a good job of keeping the ...
My friend and I just had a private party there, in the downstairs, and the place was amazing! Fast and friendly bartenders, very cool crowd... the party was a total success and super easy to book. When we booked the space it was really simple and all we had to do was show up and everyone got right in, plus we bought a bunch of drink tickets before hand which made are guests Very happy! Haven't be...
I live in this hood and the crowd here has become increasingly preppy and obnoxious. The East Village rock club vibe is gone. Now it?s a bunch of 19 year olds in popped collars & tube dresses. I came Saturday for a bday and was treated poorly at the door. I asked if the party was downstairs, she glared at me and said yeah, how many are you? Two. She said, when your whole party is here, you can g...
I never write reviews, so the fact that I am shows how annoyed I am.
SHORT STORY: Diane, the manager, is totally rude and tactless and ruined my party.
LONG (and better) STORY: I had my birthday party here last night. In order to reserve space downstairs I needed to give my credit card number to Diane (the extremely RUDE manager) which I did a month ago, but when I got to the bar the bouncer wo...
my friends favorite dance club and venue in the city and have been hearing about it from her for a year now- finally came to visit for her birthday and after dinner all of us went here and had the time of our lives. I will choose no other place to dance from here on out
Once was fun, but this place has turned into another shitty, preppy pit of awful. Not only has the staff turned into complete a**holes, but they've switched management and it shows. If I could give anyone one piece of advice about this place, it's don't go.
I went to a Birthday party in the downstairs function room. The venue is good and the dj was playing an interesting mix of rock and punk. I can't comment of the regular public bar but the function room leads me to believe it's worth checking out..
This place has really made a bad move by hiring the new General manager Dianne. She is extremely unfriendly and RUDE and nothing like the manager Michael from when the bar first openend. I would not host a birthday party in this location -- merely to spite her. Even though the location is cool - the music is great- Dianne will be responsible for this place to loose a lot of future business.
This is the last great rock 'n roll venue in New York! The fact that people are only just now finding out about it makes it a great secret, usually when bars become too well known in Manhattan they start to lose their cool. The Bowery Electric is a great place to hang out, drink and rock out to live music or great DJs!!
Literally, this was the worst night out since moving to NYC in 2001. After having a great dinner with a friend in from LA, our party agreed to go to Bowery Electric for someone's "birthday party". After reluctantly waiting in line to enter, we descended into the revolting trifecta of bad 80's music, college freshmen drooling shots all over one another and acting rudely without abandon. I felt ...
I love this place! I love the openness of the upstairs... and awesome sound system & set-up downstairs (especially for live bands). I have never had an issue with the staff or bartenders.
My only complaint would be the back room (upstairs) on weekends - this is typically over populated by birthday parties. My advice would be stay away from the back room and you'll be fine.
Came here for a friend's birthday. If we didn't have the backroom reserved, I would have left within 10 minutes. The front of the bar was extremely packed, getting drinks took forever until we got our own waitress in the back (who was good and quick). Bathrooms are just right in the middle which makes the crowd even worse. Apparently there was a dance floor downstairs, but it was too crowded for...
I like going to the Bowery Electric more than most places right now in Manhattan. There is something about a place that comes alive and this is the kind of place that does that. There is the upstairs bar, long and large and wide and beautiful with great soft lighting. There are small cozy sitting areas around the club and always the best rock'n roll music playing. The crowd is a unique combinat...
I've only been here for the earlier pre-9pm hang in the upstairs bar, so maybe that's why I love it and the last two reviewers were so unhappy? On multiple Saturdays and Sundays and the occasional weekday, I've encountered a fairly sparse but friendly bunch of people at the bar, and sometimes small groups in the comfortable nooks. Bartender very friendly and attentive. Good music, low attitude. ...
The bar is pretty generic and poorly designed. It's long and narrow so when it gets crowded it gets awkward quickly to move around. Bathrooms are in between the private party room so to get through you have to get by a bunch of people in line to use the bathroom. Huh? Moronic design.
What put me over the edge with this spot was that I was asked to leave because I was drinking water at the bar...
This place is a joke. Don't waste your time UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE. The manager is a bully and will kick your party out if you're standing in the wrong place.
There are way too many bars to go in the area that you should NEVER feel compelled or tempted to waste your time at such an utterly horribly run establishment.
I had a spectacular time. It has a great atmosphere and cool vibe. I will be frequenting the Bowery Electric.
It is a nice place to hang out but there are few things that they have to work on like service but the place itself is nice.
