Went here with my girls the other night. I ordered the white wine curry and I hope other india restaurants carry it, cause I don't think I can go back to the standard curries or massalas.
All I can say is Royal India has very flavorful food. It is a lot different from other Indian restaurants. The best of all Indian restaurant. Its all a plus.
I can eat lamb curry with kingfisher beer at Royal India everyday and their nan bread is a heaven. The best Indian food in San Diego.
Well, now that we got that out of the way: Royal India is my first and last stop for Indian food in the San diego. Sure...it's probably all that authentic, that one cares?!? It's good!!! The servers are really good at pointing you in the right direction if you give them an idea of what you're craving. All of the naans are outstanding. I'm not the type of person that always orders the same th...
Good Indian food at Royal India give me craving. I just cannot stay away from. I have been eating at Royal India for almost a year and every time they set the bar higher and surpass it. The curries are delicious, nans are soft and the desserts are yum.
You will become addicted with their garlic nan.
Be sure to try the wine from Sula Vineyards (imported from India) they carry a Sauvignon Blanc and a Shiraz, both are fantastic. And if wine is not your thing, they have a full bar, and they feature great varieties on the drink menu - woohoo!
The Shrimp Tandoori is excellent, and if they have a special, go for it, it always spot on.

On the recommendation of one of my daughter's teachers, we went to Royal India. I love Indian food and I really enjoyed their Indian food. Yes, they are the Best. I have to tell you that the only reason it is getting five stars is because I never enjoyed another restaurant as this one. The best part , they ask you how spicy you want your food; they give you a three-curry caddy with some crispy...

Ornate chandeliers cast an elegant...

Royal India was amazing. My server took such good care of us. It was a birthday and I had brought in flowers ahead of time and requested a special table in the dining room before the restaurant opened for dinner. Then when we came back later that evening to celebrate everything was ready for us. The flowers and ballons were on display at the table I had chosen. I think he would have even given u...

The first thing you'll notice about Royal India is the aroma from the street. I smelled the restaurant from about a block away before I even had a glimpse of it.

I recently ate at there restaurant also as was impressed after eating at their food court. They have some great ideas up their sleeve. For instance, you can order martinis and margaritas prepared with India's famous "Old Monk" rum.

I think Royal India is by far the best Indian restaurant in the universe. Every time I eat at Royal India, I love it even more. The freshness and the flavors and the ambiance. Everything is wonderful at Royal India. Will be back.
I really shouldn't list any "cons" about this fine restaurant. Sam and Jag have four locations around San Diego and the food is top notch. I cook a LOT of Indian food at home from scratch so I can tell when care goes into the recipes and when they are just throwing some curry base into a pan to crank out mediocre dishes. This place knows what they're doing. I have eaten a number of the differ...

The office was honoring our CEO from overseas and he is a hard man to please but Royal India did a great job. The ambiance was very impressive. The staff shined and the overall experience was an A+. Our event coordinator (Paola) was very impressed.
Excellent lunch buffet. The dinner menu is even better. Slightly pricey, but definitely worth it. Service is awesome. I highly recommend this excellent Indian restaurant.
I simply can't get enough of Royal India for the best Indian food I have ever had. I mean, I've only been once for a friend's birthday but now I'm just envisioning going back time and again. All in all awsome...

We, the management and owners of Royal India restaurants are deeply saddened to learn that one of our competitors had stooped to the levels of hostile insanity and has been impersonating as one of our ex-employees and posting reviews in an impetuous effort to hinder the reputation of our company.
We do not intend to indulge in this unprofessional and vindictive attitude of our business rivals...

The food was better than i expected .The atmosphere with a water fountain, painting on the wall and the candle lights is amazing. You have to experience to see the difference.
I have been to many Indian Restaurants around the world, it is absolutely by far my favorite cuisine. In no other cuisine worldwide are so many spices used in various different ways. During biology convention in San Diego we wanted Indian food and the concierge at Marriott recommended Royal India which is few blocks away. The ambience was serene elegant with waterfall and nice decor. The service was professional and food was very flavorful.
We ordered unique curries like White wine curry and lamb shank was with paneer nan. It was the best Indian food we have ever had becau...
Ambiance was first class...my wife commented that she felt like she was in some palace in India!...Food was excellent, particularly the Lamb Shank .Mango Martini (made with Mango Pulp imported from India) were fabulous
The best Gas lamp district has to offer! I am a what you would call a "regular" at Royal India. There are a bunch Items in their menu, so getting tired of the food is never a problem, and something is always going on which makes it exciting. I went to a Scotch tasting and had a great time.Great drink list and the staff is very warm and welcoming. It's at the top of my list of things to do when f...
My wife and I had dinner at Royal India. We were treated like friends and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The staff seemed knowledgeable and eager to help. The food was great and we left happy. I would recommend Royal India restaurant to my friends.
Not authentic, Food is very bland. The decor is nice, but the food is not. I would not recommend it to people who know exactly what Indian food tastes like. Tandoori chicken was probably old and was very dry. We went there based on the reviews but according to all of us, it might be rated so high by non-Indians who are not familiar with Indian taste.
Upon entering we walk underneath beautiful palace style arches next to hand carved wooden bar reveals a beautiful dining room with the sounds from waterfall with a serene lovers statue sitting in beautiful stone wall behind the waterfall. Delicious flavorful curry with attentive service. We were 27 of us in San Diego for decor and style convention and Royal India is located just few blocks from t...
WOW, we are impressed: My wife and I travel all over the world and when we asked for Indian food we were recommended Royal India. We got seated in a great booth in the dining room with a view of their waterfall. Our server Lisa was amazing, she helped us through the menu and recommended her personal favorite dishes which were all spot on. Their exceptional wine list complimented our food excellen...
We live downtown and have tried them all. We held off on this place for a bit and went when my very well-traveled old man came to town.
I can only think of one other place where I have had anything close to this and it was at some highly-regarded place in Hong Kong (Admiral's Club?--don't remember).
The braised lamb shank was exceptional in evey way. Ordering Chicken Tikka Masala was ...
I had the best meal of my life at Royal India restaurant. Their Chicken Tikka Masala and Garlic nan so great it will make you cry. The service was fantastic. The music and the ambiance make this place truly unforgettable. We went to several upscale, well-known Indian restaurants in San Diego, but Royal India puts them all to shame. It's worth a trip to San Diego just to eat here.
One of a handful of relatively formal Indian restaurants in the Gaslamp Quarter. Excellent food and superb service. The charming wait staff made us feel so special. Great atmosphere. If you are having Indian food in the Gaslamp this is the place. Will definitely be back there again. ...
We went to Royal India couple times during our San Diego convention trip in Feb 14 since it is very close to the convention center and Manchester Hyatt where we stayed.

My husband and I love Royal India, We've gone once for our anniversary and will be going again for our upcoming anniversary. Nice atmosphere good tasty and flavorful Indian food and mixed drinks to die for, specially their Indian Mojito. I would highly recommend Royal India to all the good Indian food lovers.
My husband took me to Royal India and it was the best Indian restaurant I've been to in a very long time. The food is amazing, especially the Lobster butter tarka with garlic Nan. The wine selection was great and the ambience was perfect. It is high-class, without being pretentious or stuffy. I'll definitely go back when I'm in the Gaslamp area.
This was our first trip to a real Indian Restaurant and let me tell you the curry dish that we had was so good we ordered extra food to go. We loved it so much!
I stopped in and ate at Royal India this week with a co-worker and we were both in a rush but wanted a good meal so we decided to try something different and had Indian food. I had not eaten Indian food in quite awhile but this definately turned me back on to the cuisine. I had the chicken kabobs and we shared the spinach appetizer that was also very tastey. I will definately be back soon-
Very friendly service with follow up and delicious and nicely presented Indian food which can be ordered hot according to taste. The Tandoori Salmon was perfectly cooked. Chicken tikka masala tastes delicious and the garlic nan is great. A must visit, especially after days of continental/california etc cuisine. Restaurant is very clean and well decorated. Highly recommended.
This is strictly a review of their lunch buffet, which I know is much different than ordering from the menu, so please keep that in mind when reading this. About 2.5 weeks ago, my wife and I met up with some friends for the lunch buffet at Royal India. We had heard many great things about their food, and were excited to check out their lunch buffet. The restaurant was pretty empty, though, bei...
Decided to try this restaurant for lunch on a week there happened to be a big convention in town. We were looking forward to the buffet that was advertised on their sign outside. We waited for about 20 minutes in line outside. Once we were seated, we realized that the restaurant didn't seem to know how to handle the extra business. There were no fresh naans. They served pita bread from the l...
Wow, I didn't think this restaurant had such good reviews. We were there for dinner a couple of days ago. The positives: Service - We had a good server who new more about the dishes than most waiters I've had at Indian restaurants and she was prompt in bringing in the dishes.
Appetizers: The samosas were bland and small. Chutney was more sour than spicy (but similar to other Indian restaurants)....
its the best indian restaurant in san diego. I LIKE THE Their FOOD Food was really good and original. Very Pricey- Every appetizer is over 20 dollars and are really small, salads are a great value, fried spinach is amazing, steak and chicken were great, dessert assortment is really good
I was in town for a few days and I decided to take some colleagues out for a nice evening in the Gas lamp quarter. We loved Royal India right away, the hostess was very nice and we decided to seat on the patio. The service was great, we order a very nice Mango martini and that took us right to the meal and that was incredible. I really enjoyed eating at Royal India and I will go back again next t...
I was part of SAPI a group of Doctors of Indian origin meet in San Diego and we have had few meetings in Royal India restaurants waterfall room. I am student here and Indian food is popular in Russia as Indian Movies as well. I could not get good Indian food in Russia but Royal India is very good. We do not have Classic Decorated Indian restaurants in Russia but Royal India has very beautiful decoration and the food id very tasty. I tried Chicken tikka masala and Nan and I can eat it daily. Royal India is the best just very good.
My Favorite Royal India an upscale Indian restaurant features tandoori (clay oven) and Karahi (Indian wok) items prepared with only the freshest ingredients. Tandoori murg, a half-chicken marinated in yogurt and spices, is the house specialty. In addition to meat and poultry, numerous vegetarian options are available. Curry, of course, is omnipresent. The subdued interior ? gauze drapery partitio...
We were in a mood for authentic Indian food ? perhaps such as Samosas, Chicken Wings and we found Royal India while driving. This eatery on Market Street welcomes guests with sizzling plates of chicken Kababs as well as value-oriented lunch buffet. If you are still looking for a good Indian food I found one for you. it is as authentic as it can be. Must Try.

Seven of us went to Royal India for the Monday night buffet. One of my colleagues recommended the place.
We were seated right away due to the fact that no one else was in the place. We all ordered the Monday Night Buffet. After a hard day of work and no lunch for any of us we needed to chow down.
I had some chicken and beef and it didn't taste right at all. The curry was too...bland. I...

I was in town from LA with some friends and staying at the W. The concierge there recommended this as his favorite restaurant in the whole city-Royal India. So of course we checked Royal India out. Wow. Everything about it was spot-on. From our drink at the bar, our food at the table, the service throughout, the decor, everything. Will DEFINITELY be back again
Most impressive. Upon entering Royal India, the first thing I noticed was their beautifully hand carved Mahogany bar. I loved the style and the music playing while I enjoyed my cocktail.
After my friends arrived, we headed to the fountain room seating area. The decor was beautiful. It had an airy feeling with the tall ceilings, but also contained a feeling of intimacy.
The food was excell...

The food at Royal India is fantastic. The Saag Paneer, one of my favorite dishes, is some of the best I've ever had. The Chicken Tandoori was also some of the best I've ever had very tender chicken, unlike a lot of the other places that tend to dry it out. I'm looking forward to trying their buffet, which I hear they provide every day.
I am delighted to have found Royal India during our show in San Diego! The food is exquisite, the staff is very affable, and the ambience is perfect for romance. We had a 7:30PM reservation and were promptly seated by a nice hostess. That was the end of the good service.
We didn't get our first drink (bud lights) until about 8PM. When it came to getting a refill on the drinks we had to go to the bar ourselves, where the bartender was helpful, but not appologetic. Our server was nice, but did NOT attend to the table, we didn't have the kind of fine din...
