George's is the perfect spot for late summer dinner in La Jolla. Sitting on the upper deck, you have a bird's eye view of the Pacific coast. Try the mussels for an appetizer -- excellent. The spaghetti with clams was great for dinner.
If you're in La Jolla and in the mood to splurge a bit, George's is the perfect spot.
I've only been to George's at the Cove twice- once on a date and once when my parents took me but both times
were a positive experience.
It's located in a great spot near the ocean and the service is excellent.
I like George's at the Cove but it's pretty expensive.
It's definitely a special occasion type of place. The food is great, the service is great and if you get the right table there are awesome views.
Reserve in advance on holidays like Valentine's Day.
The view is enough to fill you up! Most seating in the upper part of this restaurant acquires full view to the entire cove, beaches, and sea. It's definitely something to see!
Yet watch out for the angry prices! Something so simple as a salad is beyond okay for price range; I'm shocked that George's has not gone out of business for their extreme prices!
great view. Love the ocean, decent prices. Different levels of dining for different budgets. Only downside is occaisional wait for the ocean terrace level. However, they give you a beeper and you can walk around la jolla which is always fun.
You have to like it...
1. Beautiful ocean view
2. Excellent service
3. Very delicious food
4. I love the atmosphere
5. Totally a flexible place - bring a date or family/friends to impress. :)
You have to book it in advance. Just a day before is okay. Otherwise, you may be waiting up to 2 hours for a seat for two.
this was a great place to bring your date to. The view was nice and romantic, the people were friendly and most of all , the food was the best, definitely will come back if I had the chance to
i went here once with two of my friends and it was pretty good. the food was great, the service was great, and there were tons of older women for my buddies to hit on ... all around good time
Still the best view any restaurant could have. Overlook La Jolla Cove while dining on incredible, and unique dishes. The view is excellent, but the food is also.
A lot of restaurants have come and gone but Georges still remains the king, as far as I am concerned. It remains our go-to place for out of town visitors, as well as when we are looking for a well prepared meal. For those who have not been, the restaurant overlooks the ocean, it is right up against it in La Jolla. Check it out!
The view from the open terrace is amazing during the day, so bright and airy. It was very noisy and I don't even know if there was music playing at all. The service was good, the bussers kept our water very full all the time. My friend had the burger w/ aged cheddar and bacon- which was excellent and worth every penny. I had the 'most popular dish' I was told- the fig mustard, ham, and arugala pa...
I had a lovely meal at George's California Modern last Friday. Haven't been there since they remodeled and I was pleasantly surprsed how modern, young & non-stuffy it felt. I had been there prior and the food was excellent, but the atmosphere felt too stuffy. NO MORE! The great bar in the bottom level was very cool. Creative & unique cocktails! Our dinner was beautifully prepared (we had the...
Ok, I understand that George's is an impressive restaurant. Creative, innovative, amazing, whatever. It's nice but not one of the best. As a foodie ,we enjoyed 5 great nights of dining in the SD area but I would rate George's at the bottom of the list of what we had. The food was fresh, beautifully presented with impeccable service all in a beautiful setting. But, it just didn't do it for me...
George's is awesome - The food is amazing (but not over-priced), the specialty mixed drinks at each of the bars are outstanding (they have an on-site mixologist that creates interesting, seasonal drinks with fresh fruits), the atmosphere is fun and inviting, and the view is spectacular (especially at sunset). Great date (or anytime) place!
I went to George's California Modern for a special occasion with family expecting to have a terrific dining experience. I was really looking forward to showing my family what I believed to be one of the top restaurants in San Diego. We started off with mixed drinks that were good and fairly creative but nothing earth-shaking. From there the meal got progressively worse--out of three salads, one w...
It is an understatement to say that I love George's Upstairs, and it is for one reason only: Their turkey, broccoli, black bean soup. It is literally the best thing I have ever consumed in my life, and on more than one ocassion I have skipped the entree entirely and just gotten more soup. I think I'va had the pork chop and something else before as a main, but I can't even remember them because my...

During the summer you can't beat the Ocean Terrace for a lovely lunch or sunset dinner. The food is wonderful and a great value for what they serve. The specialty drinks are pretty good and the wine pours are generous. The view can't be beat and with great food George's Ocean Terrace isn't missing anything that makes a great dining experience.
I also took my girlfriend to a dinner at Georges. The service was exceptional and the food was terrific. The menu is a bit pricey but definately worth it.
PROS: Service,Food,View
CONS:
I've only been here once for lunch up on the patio area and it was superb. It definitely left a lasting impression on me. I wish to try the place out for dinner but the restaurant is a bit far from where I live. We only went there in passing to San Diego.
The service was great and the food we ordered was good. The view from the patio was beautiful on a sunny bright day. Great for pictures!!!
The food is amazing, and the service is impeccable. They pay attention to every detail. It truly is worth the price! Ask for a table near the window for a gorgeous ocean view.
This restaurant is very upscale and the atmosphere is awesome. I brought a date here once; it is a very good place for a date. The balcony overlooks the shores, and the seafood is top notch. I ordered salmon which was juicy and tender. The prices are high but totally worth it.
Their Ocean Terrace is simply beautiful'; you can enjoy a reasonably-priced meal (probably $16-22) with the surf crashing next to you. Every seat has a great view of the ocean; it does get very crowded so be sure to make reservations ahead of time-- I did it online at opentable.com. The halibut with a cherry tomato vinagrette was fantastic; the chicken breast was a little on the dry side but st...
If you're looking for a great place to bring a date, this is it. Request a seat on the balcony to get an amazing view of la jolla shores as you enjoy your fresh seafood catch. During the weekends and nights I recommend making reservations though since it does get extremely busy and the wait could be awhile.
