They need to get a better head chef back there. Their sous chefs don't know what they are doing. On two different occasions I had serious, SERIOUS, dirt and grit in the wasabi mashed potatoes. Disgusting. I shudder to think at what other carelessness the rest of the food is handled with.
1) No reservations, first come, first served.
2) 2.5 Hours wait. ( This is the first time - and last - for me to wait for 2.5 hours to get at table )
3) Staff attitude: The teenager-like hostess attitude left too much to be desired:" There is nothing we can do for you. You can 'wait until a table is free, or if you can, try to get a table on your own. If you want to leave, just let us know so...
My husband and i have been going to Ra for about a couple of months now. The wait is long, but well worth it. Our first couple of experiences have been bad due to the service, almost wanting to ban Ra sushi, until this one waiter took care of us (Michael). He's really nice, never had to ask for anything as if he could read our minds. Never once ever had to wonder where my waiter was unlike most r...
Very slow service, too over 30 minutes to get sushi. Had to ask where it was, at which point it suspiciously immediately appeared.
The next round was no faster. Took over 2 hours to be served two rounds, appetizers and nagiri...and not due to the leisurely pace of the eaters.
The displeasure felt was exasperated by the loud, bad music which made it difficult to talk, which is annoying if ...
What happened to Rickshaw?
I heard all the rage about this place only to show up to an inner city club and dump
The service at this place is rude, slow, and disorganized. Beware of giving your driver's license to the waiter: I took my boyfriend there on his birthday, we had TERRIBLE service, as the waiter kept forgetting things, and he took my boyfriend's license and lost it. The restaurant manager is rude and unwilling to compensate him in any way. Needless to say, we couldn't go out anywhere for drinks a...
Loved to food and drinks, but the service was a little slow. We went there for my husbands birthday and it was great! Probably better to go during the week.
the food is great and so is the service only one con get there before happy hour you can wait 20 to 40 mins but worth the wait!!
I eat here once, twice a week. I was really shocked at the reviews. Yes, the service can be slow.. but typically its not bad. And the price? I spend way less here than Japanerios and other place in Sugarland, Katy. The Happy Hour is fantastic for good deals. Their Zonie, Tsunami, and Tunacado is a must for me once a week. Everyone in Houston seems to create menus where its fried, stuffed...
My boyfriend and I went eat there and the food was very tasty, espcially the scallop roll thingy. But the waitress was really rude. I've worked in the service a good bit, so I know I'm not just being judgemental. She was rude and told us that we ordered too much food! She treated us like we were stupid the whole dinner and had a ugly attitude. My friend went about a month later and had just the s...
My friends and I can't stand this place. It tries WAY too hard to be hip. RA cares about image more than good service & quality food.
I have been more than once but last time I waited at a table 15 minutes before anyone even brought water. The server disappeared & returned 10 minutes later to take our drink order. It only got worse from there- and the place was never crowded. No excuse...
Ok, I'll admit. The decor is pretty creative and visually appealing. But an entire restaurant can't hinge solely on image. The first time I tried this place was in the middle of the afternoon on a Tuesday, so it's safe to assume that it was pretty slow. However, they still had the music thumping like it was a Friday night! I think that's absurd. We were seated quickly, of course. The waitress exp...
My initial visit was a year ago and wanted to go back. Second visit was last night and will not go back again unless there are a few changes. Prior to placing our order, we were brought someone elses order - 3 different times! We placed our order and they brought us the wrong order twice. The music was so loud my husband and I were frustrated because we kept saying "what?", "say again", "I didn...
Sometimes I have to come here if friends want to, but the service is terrible EVERY time. No matter how slow it is or what time of day, the service is always bad and really slow. Servers constantly forget to check back or even take orders. The food is expensive for how mediocre it is.
The atmosphere was great. Reasonable volume music playing. Reasonable lighting. The servers were poor advisors of the menu, which is often needed in a sushi restaurant.
Enjoyed the trip, may make it back, would recommend stopping somewhere to eat before your snacks at RA.
Waited for 30-45 minutes, before canceling our order (they hadn't even begun making our food). Don't go here unless no other sushi restaurant is open.
Went for a friend's birthday party. Happy hour had a good menu and would recommend the Tootsy Maki and Viva Las Vegas roll. Service started out okay, but throughout the night it was horrible. Had to request for server to come and serve us repeatedly
...so, it might seem you just entered the door to the next fashionable night club instead of a restaurant.Cute girls and guys sitting around with beers, sake and delicious sushi.
Pros: Food, try the Californian Roll, ambiance, location
Cons: if you want to eat and listen to your friends conversation, it might not be your place!
RA Sushi not only is a really nice restaurant it has great sushi. My friends and I usually go on Sundays during Happy Hour. I love to drink Sake so its always a great deal during Happy Hour. Its also been named a a great place to meet people.
Okay so I've always heard great things about this place, so my boyfriend, me and some friends went there. Getting in was easy, the atmosphere was chill, fun, relaxed, and young, which was PERFECT. They had great music to go along with it!
Down to the bad part.. we actually had to FIND our waitress. We ordered the Goujia (i think thats how it is spelled), and a Sunami, then some of our friends or...
The restaurant appears as if a good chunk of the money went into the decor and the sound system (which was ridiculously loud). The waitress was attentive and helpful although it would have been nice to have a flashlight as it was impossible to read the menu. I held my menu up to the small candle on the table hoping not to light the menu on fire. But dim light and ear-splitting music is not the...
The entrance/stair way lights were very cool but that ended up being the best thing about this place. It was really busy so we sat at a table on the 'bar' side. Seems as though this place can't decide if it wants to be a night club or a restaurant. It was very loud and hard to talk across the table, men were just standing around as if it was a meat market, the atmosphere once inside nothing to...
The food is great! I love the tootsi maki rolls are soooo GREAT! I love the happy hour and all the food and drink prices! Sundays are for sure the place to go!
I went to Ra with a group of 8 on a busy Wednesday night for a friend's birthday. We were seated promptly, and the ambiance and decor is fantastic! Service was lagging (I know they were busy), but it took 15 minutes to get a Miller Lite bottle and some saki. Our server just didn't seem to try very hard because I'm sure he knew he could grat us (AND BTW WE ARE NOT CANADIANS, it was a group of youn...
A friend brought us here as they frequent this place...claiming good sushi/atomosphere.
We came here for a Sat. Lunch...
The place is nice...cool decor atomosphere.
Sushi is above avg. but not the best best.
But none of that matters...
I saw this with my own eyes...
A (M- - - - ) (rhymes with House) drops down from below the sushi bar onto a bar stool...then jumps down to the floor..a...
I went to Ra Sushi on this past Sunday night. It has the first time my daughter and I had been and we both were very impressed by the ambience of the place. A male server smiled at us and said hello with a sincere look on his face. The hostess eveline sat us and was very polite and sat us near the sushi area. However, we did not get service right away. I was starting to get very frustrated becaus...
This place is a lot of fun. Its got great atmosphere, good music, excellent drink menu and awesome food. The drinks on the mnu are good and offer a variety. The food is good. I'm not a big fan of sushi but i did really enjoy some of the different rolls they offer. Parking isnt the best but they do offer complimentary valet. The bar area is hopping on Friday nights so get there early and get...
I go to RA Sushi all the time and always have fun. You kind of have to know what to order. The Shaggy Dog and the Park roll are both off- menu items that are both spicy and delicious. Chili ponzu yellowtail and the Tunacado are really good Sashimi plates. The Sesame Wings are surprisingly good and also on the happy hour menu.Get to know the bartenders and cocktail servers and they will make sure ...
this places reminds me of hooter s. the hostesses could stand to cover themselves a little more and every female server had bra straps showing from their tight tank tops. some of the staff had shirts with very provocative words which i found to be a little sexist.
about half of the stuff we ordered was ok but the other half was pretty bad. the service was ok but i expect better service for...
RA is great at looking fancy and cool. Customers are always very dressed up. Although the food is good, I've experienced much better food for less money. I go to RA when I need to impress someone, not when looking for great sushi.
The Houston Chronicle tested the mercury levels in 15 different sushi restaurants around Houston, one of them was RA. RA's sushi had more than double the FDA's guideline for mercury levels and had the highest levels tested of any restaurant in Houston - 2.5 parts per million. To be fair, the FDA's guideline is 1 part ber million, which is 10 times less than what is considered safe (i.e., 10 par...
I visited RA for the first time for an early evening date on a Friday. We arrived in time for Happy Hour and were seated promptly. The "well drinks" weren't the best, yet my apple martini and Tsunami drink that we shared were great. The pinapple wontons are AWESOME and $4 during happy hour. The ambience was very relaxed and eclectic and our server was very attentive. Though our waitress spil...
I have been to RA Sushi twice. The first time was amazing, the food was great and the service was nothing to complain about. My second time though, I got ill even though I ordered the exact same thing (I'm a creature of habit). Just a warning that the food quality is not consitant.
I went to Ra on Sunday to meet two girlfriends, share some libations and eat a healthy lunch of ahi tuna and edimame. What I found was a cross between a carnival side-show and a Jerry Springer episode.I arrived before my guests, so I promptly took a seat at the bar and ordered a martini- nothing fancy, and shaken not stirred in case you were wondering. Standing (or leaning) against the bar were s...
OK- Here's the deal. Lots of people, lots of action, lots of energy and some sushi. Its ok sushi. Go if you want to see people, action, and feel energy. Skip it if you want great sushi.
I do have to preface this by mentioning that my boyfriend and I went late in the night. In any case, we were first told that a we would have to wait twenty minutes for a table. (They weren't that busy.) This was not a big deal, because once in every blue moon we like to sit at the bar. In any case, I ordered a green tea, which smelled and tasted like shellfish when it came. I'm pretty flexib...
I don't understand some of these reviews, I go to Ra all the time. I used to go just for the cool atmosphere, service has improved, it used to be sub-par but so is every other crazy busy restaurant on a FRI night, especially when they are new. The sushi is good, although the fruity rolls that they have I don't like, but the scallop dynamite roll is tasty. If you want to take someone out to eat an...
This is my first review of a Houston restaurant. I had to find an outlet to warn people about my experience. I ate at RA Friday at lunch with an old colleague. I had edamame and the Chili Ponzu Yellowtail. It has always been my favorite dish there. prior to about 1 year ago, I was a pretty regular customer.
Beginning Friday evening, and continuing now, 3 days later (I'm missing work) - My...
I dont understand the bad reviews for this place. I went with 5 of my buddies on saturday night around 10 pm. The place was packed with good looking people. The DJ was playing great music. Although the hostesses were acting like they were 10, the waitstaff and bussers seem very well trained. Our waitress Monica was not only beautiful but a sweeetheart. She greeted us as soon as we sat down, recom...
My sister and I went to Ra last night to celebrate her birthday. We went during happy hour so we sat ourselves and were quickly greeted by a server. We ordered our appetizer and two rolls along with our drink orders since it was pretty busy. We got our drink orders right away but the food takes a really long time and the servers disappear quite a bit. We received our appetizer and then about ...
I have to tell you I have no idea how this place is reviewed 4 1/2 stars. I live a few blocks a way and LOVE sushi so I was so excited when I found out one would be going in so close. I gave Ra numerous shots. The atmosphere is hip and cool but the sushi is terrible. I have been 3 times and not ONCE not TWICE but THREE times I or someone I have been with has gotten ill later that night. I have he...
I always give a place at least 2 chances before making up my mind. 0 for 2 this is like the A-ROD of sushi all hype no delivery. The place is very nice but aside from the bar and atmosphere this place really is overrated. Service, I could have sworn that it was self service. Fire everyone including the management rehire, retrain then reopen. The food itself was mediocre at best. Trying to be more...
we came here for a happy hour and so we had a chance to sample a few things....food is decent, certainly not the best ever.....but atmosphere is very lively and upbeat if you're looking for a night out on the town along with dinner....unfortunately we just happened to have a brainless waitress who messed up our order, forgot to bring refills on my friend's drink after she asked twice already........
Even though most of the reviews on here are about the bad service, we went there anyway. Well, they were right. I honestly think it was the worst service I have ever received. Unfriendly, non-attentive and looked just miserable to be there. She just wanted to go home and I wish she would have. All she had to do was close us out and ask someone else to take over, no big deal. Heaven forbid...
We tried RA for the first time and were NOT impressed at all by what we had.
Food was awful. The sushi rice fell apart in your mouth and had no texture or taste whatsoever. They couldn't even get a simple seaweed salad right. Service was subpar and the entire experience was made worse by the stale smell of the place.
I probably have never had a more non-fun time. Expecting to eat delicious sushi and celebrate a joyous occasion with freinds, i was quickly deterred. The service was below par, the managers not nice or helpful at all having made reservations too. The sashimi, hot cold at all when i ate it. Food was below par too.
Ra is very trendy and the sushi tasted very good but it made 5 out of 8 people in our party very ill (sick to our stomach including a fever). We called the management to inform them of the fact that their sushi had made us very sick and they did not care. For $40 a person we thought we could expect great quality sushi - apparently not.
RA Sushi is a great sushi place with a great atmosphere for a lively evening out. The sushi and rolls are great, with original rolls and very high quality food. We love the Viva Las Vegas rolls and the crunchy calamari rolls - both are to die for.
The atmosphere is very lively and this place caters to a young, hip crowd. They play the music very loudly, and the playlist can be kind of random....
There's got to be better sushi places in Houston. I haven't found them yet, since we just moved here from Chicago. But we went to RA sushi over the weekend, and the food was mediocre at best. We tried the calamari tempura (average), the scallop dynamite appetizer (horrible), chicken katsu (similar to an Applebee's-type entree), and a caterpillar roll. The roll was mushy and did not taste fresh. T...
I have been to a decent number of sushi restaurants, and this is my favorite! The sushi is always fresh and tastes wonderful (I only eat the nigiri and sashimi, where you actually taste the fish and quality). There ponzu sauce is freakin' awesome (if you haven't tried ponzu with sushi, instead of the soy sauce, you are missing out!). We drive quite a while to get here, and it is always worth it....
This restaurant is managed and owned by Koreans. I really do not understand why people say Ira shai mase, which means in japanese Welcome, if they are Koreans? Are they pretending to be Japanese? The sushi is absolutely disgusting, because it is not fresh, and the rice is overcooked and as such does not hold too well. First off, Learn how to cook rice, I believe you use too much water in the s...
I was craving sushi late one night this week and called in an order to-go. I've visited quite a few of Houston's great sushi places, and I would not include RA as one.
The sushi had a very odd taste to it, almost as if it had been sitting out for a couple of days, and the wasabi was turning brown and tasteless. I live around the corner from RA and within the 10 minutes it took me to call in my...
This is what we got for $82:
-warm sushi
-dirty plates (as in every single plate, 6 of them)
-dirty menus
-warm beer, with no offer of a cold glass
-bad mojito
-2 large, burned out lights over the main dining room
-inadequate restrooms for the size of the restaurant
We will never go back to the place again ? what for?
Last night was the second time I've been to RA. I was with a party of 10 people. Everyone at our table had food exept for me, in fact I never received my food, couldn't find the waitress to ask her where it was. Asked a bus boy to check on it, never got an answer from him. When we finally got the check after waiting for about 20 minutes I was charged for three dishes that I did not have. The...
The only credit I can give Ra is to the interior designer of the place. Yeah, it's trendy, but if you want a trendy place to go where your experience will be memorable don't go here.
To make things short, Ra really needs to hire competent waitresses. They don't know the menu, some of them don't even know what kind of sushi is served. They hostesses are immature and extemely rude and snobby whe...
Ra is a terrible choice if you plan to have a party. first,t hey had horrible service because
1)we all sat around with empty water cups for at least 20 minutes before they were filled
2)it took the waiter about an hour before he came to take out order
3)the food came out at different times, so people were done before others
4)they brought the wrong birthday cake out! embaressing since everyon...
We came to Ra for lunch one weekday. The atmosphere is great. They have a lounge area with a large open space so you can feel the breeze (if there is one). We each had a bento box (which were very affordable $6-$8) and then split two rolls. The rolls were tasty and beautifully prepared. The drinks from the drink menu were so-so but the excellent service from the server made up for it. We'll be ba...
I don't understand all the negative reviews to this place. Every time I have come, the food has been excellent (I just discovered my new favorite, the Apple Teriyaki Salmon and Wasabi Mashed Potatoes....to die for!!!)
This place is always busy, so get there early, or expect to wait at the bar for a table to be cleared. I do agree the hostess girls are worthless...I wish they could hire some ol...
I never knew I liked sushi until I ate at RA. Now I love it!! Any other place I go to is always disappointing. They have unique rolls with lots of flare. I always get the Las Vegas roll and the Crazy Monkey. They are absolutely wonderful! And the pineapple cream cheese wontons are a must try as well. The atmosphere is also very cool. Very fun for a group of friends to drink and party.
RA is another one of these pretentious sushi places that can get away with not having good food or service because it caters to the young trendy/hipster crowd. The best part about this place is definetly the ambience. You walk upstairs and it feels like you are in a club. The lights are low and the music is bumpin'. On a Friday or Saturday night, your best bet for getting a table is going to ...
RA is not what its cracked up to be. My husband and I were highly disappointed with the quality of food as well as the service. Miso soup was "fishy" tasting -- very disturbing and gross. Rolls were in HUGE pieces, not well put together, causing a sushi explosion all over the plate. Specialty rolls were for show, not really for eating, in our opinion -- too much going on. It would be worth t...
I read some of these reviews about the service but I still wanted to go try it out. I went with some friends on a Saturday night and had a great time. This is a busy place so you can't expect to get your drinks and food immediately. If you want a place like that go to your local pub or eatery and enjoy but you won't get a scene like at RA. Our waitress was always around and we were never with...
I used to come to RA a lot with my girlfriends, but lately the service has been horrible! The service has been so bad that I forgot why I used to come here so often. My friend used to be the bar manager and he quit because his wait staff was becoming more and more disappointing. Trust me this place is not worth your time and not worth the prices! The clientel seems to have gotten too young as wel...
I am not a big sushi fan, but my fiance is, so we headed out there Sat. night & got there around 10:30. I had heard very good things about Ra so when we walked in we were very impressed with the ambience, however, as most of the reviews on here, the service is lacking. We were seated very quickly, but at that time there weren't many people waiting to eat.
It's very loud & my margarita was no...
A couple of my friends went on a Saturday night. I called ahead to ask if they took reservations and the girl over the phone said they didn't. Well we arrived at RA we were told we had to wait an hour, so we headed to the bar. After an hour I walked up to the hostess and asked to be seated because it had been an hour and she said your parties next. I over heard her tell the other employees that t...
The place is ok. Most of the comments here are true... its expensive, loud, service is lacking, and the sushi is nothing spectacular. However, Houston doens't seem to be endowed with good sushi restaurants, and I will say that the sushi at Ra is better than it is at most places. Its not dazzling enough to warrant the price, but I enjoy eating it (as opposed to other places where its pricey and...
You can feel how trendy this place the moment you walk into the doors and see the spiraling staircase that leads you to the restaurant. The restaurant acts both as a night club and a restaurant, and it certainly look and feel that way. The sides of the Ra can open up letting you feel the night air outside. I took my girlfriend here for dinner and we liked the romantic contemporary asian feel the ...
The swanky atmosphere isn't enough to keep me coming. Bartenders can't handle traffic and are simply rude. Martinis need work. Food service is slow and waiters are not attentive. The sushi isn't on par with other local restaurants, especially for the price. Parking is VERY limited. Don't waste your time.
RA is definitely your trendy spot to go. It has a beautiful decor and setting in the Highland Village. The crowd is more about seeing each other and beeing seen, than it is about eating a great sush mea....which is a good thing because the sushi there is mediocre at best.
If you are looking for a good sushi place to hang out...then RA is for you. If you are looking for good sushi....try another...
upon entry you are greeted by a staircase spiraling upwards to the heart of the restaurant. the journey to the "heavens" is further accentuated with low hanging "clouds" aka over-sized lanterns. first impressions when you get to the top is quite impressive: glowing huge "cherries" hanging from the ceiling, a bamboo fence seperating the dining area from the bar, dimly-lit and romantic with a to...
Ok, just great sushi.
I recommend the Crazy Monkey roll and pretty much anything you get is good.
Great Service.
The location is great and I love the upstairs "patio" feel when they open up the windows on a nice day. The set up is nice and the bar area is very cool. They also have a decent happy hour drink and appetizer specials. But the food is not even close or up to par with other various sushi places in town. So if you're looking for good sushi, RA wouldn't be on the top of the list... go to RA if ...
I've been to RA on three separate occasions with a different experience everytime. the first time was for my 21st birthday (late friday afternoon around 4pm). our waitress was really friendly and helpful and didn't seem bothered at all by "groups" (you know how that is). the food was like any other sushi bar unless you order their special rolls (the las vegas roll was pretty good, too many textur...
A recent visit on a weeknight. Found a spot at the bar just as the some of the happy hour crowd died down. Drink menu looked interesting but I found the cold sake selections to be limited. I was excited to try the food but found that the fish was not of great quality and the yakisoba dish was made in an icky sweet americanized japanese way. Scallop dynamite was also disappointing as i could tell ...
Yuppie to the core. It's a cool-looking environment that masks poor service and overpriced food that's nothing to write home about. I was underwhelmed, to say the least--until it came time to pay the bill!
I love this place. I am there almost every weekend! The ambiance is perfect! live DJ, Food, great drinks and fun people all around. - Gotta love it!
The restaurant is beautiful; there are tons of things to look at. The wait was over an hour and half on a Saturday night, so come with intentions of having drinks and an appetizer if you can find a place at the bar. I don't eat sushi, but the rest of my friends loved theirs. I ordered cooked fish, and I really enjoyed my meal.
This place is reminiscient of TAO in NYC with a good scene and decent food. Little rock-and-rollish more than house music. Enjoy!!!
Ra is so much fun for a big group of friends. Sometimes the wait for a table is a little long, but it's usually pretty easy to grab one of the first come first serve tables in the bar area. They have an awesome sushi menu with some very inventive rolls. For an appetizer the lobster spring rolls are a must! Great, loud music gives it a very club-type vibe. Highly recommended place to start ou...
Loved the place, me and my lady feel very comfortable there. The waitress could use a little improvement but they are normally Hot so that makes up for there screw up's.
the bar is a bit crowded but thyeir Saki rocks.
I have recently dined at RA and was very pleased. The sushi and hot food is remarkable. Not only are the Sushi Chefs freakin HOT!!! the servers there make my pencil straight too!! I would highly recommend taking a date there to enjoy a wonderful night out in the village. If you are real slick about it you can not only walk out on your tab without paying, but you can also pull your vehicle up...
this place is so americanized and the atmosphere makes me feel like i'm in a club, not a restaurant. several dishes we had were way too salty (very un-japanese) made for non-asians.
ok, sunday nights if you are at RA you will see me!! it is my fav place on a sunday night. good crowd and hello! happy hour until midnight!!! bar is open until 1. good food amazing drinks! try the giant fish bowl(whos title i cannot say because citysearch keeps editing it). its 60oz. of happiness
Granted, the restaurant is a little overly trendy and for scenesters, but the food and service are great. I would recommend valet parking, esp. during very busy times. I think any seat in the house is good, but the window seats are very nice. My recommendations for food - the Potsticker Soup, Tuna Tataki, and any of the hand rolls. And they CAN do soy paper for any of the rolls. I think the ...
ok, RA isnt so much "bad" just all kinds of "wrong".
- the food. i held off reviewing this place until id been twice, but twice is enough... if youre a sushi purist you're gonna want to shake them. flash-fried hand rolls showed up seemingly refrigerated and nigiri arrived at room temperature. about 80% of their "signature" rolls contain tempura bits, cream cheese and eel sauce. any of these ...
I took a couple of friends of mine who are inexperienced sushi eaters to Ra for lunch. Our waitress, Natalia, was extremely helpful in explaining each item on the menu to my fellow "sushi" virgins. She also recommended PERFECT sake that complimented each of our courses. The timing of each plate brought out was perfect, as was all of the food presentation. I highliy recommend Ra to any sushi lover...
I loved the Chinese lanterns, the mellow lights, and the crimson walls. The music is awesome. The food was great, I liked the fact that there was creative dishes with creative names, like the Crazy Monkey Roll. This will definitely be my all time favorite spot to chill or party.
I have been there several times and after going there last Thursday it will be my last. The best part of the night was watching all the hillarious women with super tight clothes with implants and botox. People watching is the only good thing about this place. The music is so loud that you can't hear the person sitting next to you. The smoke from the bar travels throughout the entire restauran...
My friends and I met at Ra last night for dinner- my first time there. I frequent sushi restaurants often, both here in houston and other cities as I travel alot. This place is designed for the see and be seen middle aged yuppie crowd- overflowing with slightly portly extremely bleached women wearing overly tight clothing and boring drunk khaki pant corporate doofs. The interior is posh and in...
the food was okay i guess but i couldn't get past the crappy service....i tried it twice just to make sure it wasn't the waiter...it wasn't! they don't seem to put a high priority on being courteous, serving you the right things and in a timely manner....so i ask myself, what's the point?? ironically i could overhear another table having issues with their server too....i know it's hip and cool bu...
Badass Place to party with strong drinks and exotic sushi. But beware going in on thursday or firday nights, b/c it's crazy-busy. It's more fun Mon through Thursday b/c the wait is shorter and you have room to stretch your legs.
when i arrived at ra with a few friends i was immediatly drawn to the red lishts on the ceiling and then the little red headed spunky waitress from new orleans that quickly became my favorite part of my "ra experience" lisa lisa lisa this little red head was a trip. and she has the curves of a fertility statue. she was amazing i don't even remember the food. all i remember was mount lisa. so run ...
Granted the place and decor is absolutely topnotch and beautiful, but the sushi is way below the level you'd think it would be. The sushi I ordered came out fast but was not fresh and seemed like it had been sitting out for awhile. The pieces are minature and come in at most 5 pcs. I would definitely expect more from such a gorgeous restaurant like this. People who love it here have not experi...
It's a very nice atmosphere but the food wasn't that great. I ordered the tuna salad, and the texture was thick and mushy. The dressing was very thin. The rolls that I ordered fell apart very easily. Although I have to give them pointers on making the dish look very nice. Still it wasnt as good as it looked.
The food is ok but the service at this place is horrible. They screwed up 3 different orders in our party and then we had to fight to get certain items ,(which we DID NOT receieve), removed from our bill. The waitstaff is horrible and the management wasn't much better.
I'm such a cheerleader for this place. Great atmosphere, wonderful sushi (I recommend the lobster topped with salmon and pesto sauce). Definitely a great happy hour venue; wouldn't recommend it to one looking for a quiet, older atmosphere. Great Music!
I went to RA with a few of my girlfriends and we had a great time. If you want to be surrounded by great decor, lively/fun atmosphere, good looking people, and great music then this is the place to be. Everyone is dressed to impress because many patrons come here to preparty, mingle, or grab a few bites to eat before they hit the dance clubs. Who cares if the food isn't out of this world? We c...
On a sunny afternoon, my girlfriend and I decided to give this place a shot, as we love sushi and the building looked very interesting, and it is located between my favorite steakhouse in town and my favorite grocery store. (looks can be decieving) We sit at the bar, and begin looking over the menus. Once we were finally greeted (this took at least ten minutes and the place was not even busy......
We went on a Saturday night. The music was really loud. The decor was amazing. There was nothing too special about the sushi. Sushi is sushi but Ra's was pricey. You are pretty much paying for the trendy and hip environment.
The decor is hip and trendy, the crowd is interesting for a voyeur on a weekend night. Even the waitresses show off their assess from all directions when they bend down. The food was interesting as well with all sorts of twist. I liked the cream cheese touch in the Viva Las Vegas rolls.
All that said and done the service was poor but not rude. The girl who waited on us was a ding bag and kept...
I went with some co-workers for Happy Hour on a Thursday night and it was everything I hoped for. The prices were great and the scene was awesome. Great decor and good looking people. Happy hour ends at 7 and you should expect to pay triple Happy Hour prices from then on. At about 8 if feels more like a bar than a restaurant which is why i think there are several complaints about the service ...
My boyfriend and I enjoy dining out and we found Ra to be way below average. We're in our 20's so we enjoyed the music and ambience. We love sushi resturants... however, this place fails horribly. The edamame was undercooked with WAY too much salt, the sushi was extremely mediocre, gnats flew around our food, none of the waitresses were "put together" well, the service was poor, and the smell of ...
I started my experimental dining in New York City, so I may be a bit biased, but still. RA is way overrated. I have problems with sushi restaurants that can't prepare simple sushi, but instead have to make these elaborate dishes, where I can't even decide what I'm supposed to concentrate on. For instance... the Viva Las Vegas Roll: Kani Kama and Cream cheese rolled in rice and seaweed, lightly...
The only reason I patronize RA is because it is near my office. The week they opened, we decided that although the atmosphere was fun, but the service was excruciatingly slow. And, even to a young-20s professional, the music was far too loud for anything resembling conversation. I have ordered lunch to go twice and now know better than to expect anything less than a 30 minute wait for your foo...
This palce while very trendy has some awesome rolls! We tried the Vegas Roll and the Monkey Roll. Both were amazing and completly different from what we ususally get around town. while the atmosphere is very trendy, i enjoyed the decor and high-energy music! I will be back!
I'm originally from Los Angeles and I figured I'd treat some of my friends in TX to an LA style Sushi spot....RA Sushi was a perfect 10. If you're looking for a quiet dinner with soft music...dont' come here. If you love energy, good food and good people...definitly check this place out. I read the other reviews and thought...these people are looking for the wrong thing in a sushi spot. Live ...
I've been to Ra a few times since it opened and while service does seem to be inconsistent the complaints that I hear about the loud music and the dense crowd are absurd. Listen if you want a place that has no wait at the bar and is quiet enough for you and your grandma to catch up go to Miyako or cafe Japon. This place is loud and trendy and I undertsand it. I spoke with one of the bartenders an...
I heard about Ra from some friends, so myself and 3 friends came to try it out on Sat night. The overall vibe and atmosphere of the place was excellent, the windows even open up all the way so it seems like your almost on a balcony. Drink prices are very reasonable and the sushi was fantastic. They even had a DJ!!! I'm coming back for sure next week!!
Everyone knows RA has the worst service on Westheimer, but people kept going because it was so trendy. Well, I guess that trend has passed. A friend and I went at 7:30 on Sunday evening; there were 14 guests in the bar and 7 employees - not counting the DJ. It still took more than 5 minutes to get any service. So, bad service and no crowd? what a flop!
Very nice location and scene. Dont go for food and don't expect to get a drink within 30 minutes on the weekend. Music could use some help. Do people really eat here.
The place looks really hip and incredibily cool - but it's really lacking in reality. Depsite absolutely delicious sashimi and sushi, the service was very poor and the ambiance - well, there was none. Music oscillated between 80's rock and old school hip-hop and was WAY TOO LOUD obviously made it hard for our waitstaff to hear our order since they tried to deliever the wrong plates twice, broug...
I went to Ra the first week it opened. The place is beautiful but the bar is bigger than the eating area. We waited 2 hours after being told the wait would be 40 minutes. We never made it to dinner....we were so hungry we left. We had to wait 30 minutes just to get a drink! The music was SO TERRIBLE!!! I will never go back!
I would not recommend this place to anyone. Service was slow from both the food and the drinks form the bar. We waited an hour before the food reached our table. The Tsunami Punch that was recommended seemed very watered down. The sushi is much better at other restaurants. I would compare their sushi to the boxed ones you can buy at the grocery store. I actually heard the excuse "Sorry the foo...
Went to RA for lunch; after waiting 40 minutes for sushi orders, had to take a quick bite and get back to the office; could not stay and dine with friends. Would not have been so irritated except that there were only 5 tables total in the restaurant and others were served before us, who came in after us! WOULD NOT RECOMMEND AT ALL IF YOU ARE ON A NORMAL LUNCH HOUR.
We went to RA for lunch and ate in the bar area. It was a nice day out and they had the large windows open allowing a nice outdoor feel.
The rolls were great and the sushi fresh.
We look forward to trying it out for dinner.
I heard about Ra's trendyness through Papercity and decided to try it out for lunch. Although situated in a central location, Ra lacks food presentation, professional service, and taste. A waiter brought an incorrect dish twice to our tables within our 30 minute lunch. In addition, he did not look like he had ever carried a plate before...spilling as he went. Our waitress was not knowledgable wit...
We recently ate at the newly opened Houston location and we were pleasently suprised at how well they kept with the service and quality of food compared to their other locations. The ambiance was wonderful, the music was loud, but it was suppose to be. The servers were upbeat and on top of everything every moment. We will be back!
The opening party was great! The staff did a great job catering to our needs. The music, crowd and ambiance was amazing. Most importantly, the sushi was delicious. If they can keep this up, Uptown Sushi will have a great competetor! PS...the drinks were very well made!
The overall atmosphere was quite dark, the first thing you notice when you enter is the loud music that pretty much overpowers the whole dining experience, and it gets worse if you head to the restroom, the music gets even louder in there. The food started off nicely with edamame, but quickly went south from there. The scallop appetizer was bland. The shrimp tempura rolls weren't even fresh with...
I'd called ahead last week and was told they don't do reservations, which is a disappointment in Houston. Maybe based on the last reviewer's comments, this is because they aren't yet any good at keeping them. So, when I shwoed up with 6 friends, we expected a wait near the bar and just chilled, had some appetizers and sake. Our waitress was very busy, but attentive and friendly. The restaurant h...
As a native Houstonian, I have never been more disappointed in the service and management of a restaurant in this city. We made reservations two weeks prior to going to RA. We waited for 2 hours in a crowded bar with only 1 bartender, while we dealt with 3 of the RA staff/hostesses who were all claiming to be managers or partial managers...whatever that means. After wondering when our table was ...
Thumbs up! I recommend going early before the crowd hits so you don't have to wait. We went at 6PM and beat the mad rush of people that came in soonafter. I also recommend going during happy hour which is from 4-7PM weekdays, or during their reverse happy hour on Sunday nights from 8-midnight... we had two iced teas, edamame, pineapple wontons, salmon wontons, spinach gyoza potstickers, two sc...
don't come here for a romantic night out or a good conversation. the mix of pop and alt-rock music was good but too loud for much talking, and the un-edited profanities are definitely not kid-friendly. very pseudo-asian "trendy" decor. the food was just ok, and the sushi was average. very americanized, and definitely not worth the expense. service was courteous but slow. don't recommend groups. i...
I called 2 hours ahead to put my name on the waiting list and still had to wait 1 hr and half before my party of 8 was seated at a booth (tight fit). The place was too crowded for my liking. I tried the spicy lobster roll which was not good and crazy monkey roll which was a little above average. The beef teriyaki looked very good but tasted tough and old. The apple martini was pleasant. Wai...
RA offers the best ambience/ party location for the upbeat young crowd. I felt like I was going to a great club that offfers great sushi. I look forward to going back for another great beginning to a night out on the town.
This is the first week RA has been open, and i know it is going to be a big hit. The food tasted great and was presented amazingly. My only complaint was slow service and unknowledgeable wait staff, but since this was their first week i'll let it slide and try them again in a month or so :) give it a try!
Nothing different about this new restaurant. Not much selection with their sushi rolls. Pretty good appetizers. Overly abundant waitstaff - kind of interrupts dinner with seven different people approaching your table at any given time. The sushi wasn't exceptional - it was just ok. Overall - eh.
After shopping in Highland Village, I stopped by for an early dinner at 6. I sat in the smoking section , at a window table overlooking Westheimer, but it didn't smell of smoke at all. The decor is awesome. I love the lights hanging in the foyer and the pics on the walls are beautiful. My waitress, Jessica, was extremely helpful even though I bombarded her with tons of questions about the men...
