you are welcome to this phony hangout. overpriced and unwelcoming, I was not surprised to see plenty of poor saps lining up to pay inflated prices. got poor service at bar and was glad to leave.
Interesting, unique decor, very cool music, especially Willie' McNeil's band is fun and entertaining. Once you're in, you're pretty much on you own. Nobody will hound you for drinks, although the "absinthe fairies" carting the classic absinthe service around are appealing, even if the absinthe itself is not.
I've been a fan of the Edison since it first opened, but its appeal faded after a year or so. I recently went back for the burlesque circus on Wednesday nights and... DAMN. Entertainment is incredible, the crowd dresses up and the drinks never miss, although you may wait for quite a while. If you're looking for a refreshed sense of the Edison - go on Wednesday nights.
The food here is eclectic and absolutely amazing. It's good for a romantic date or even meet friends at the bar. I particularly enjoyed the belly dancer show she had a python in her act. The service was amazing well worth the prices.
I just got turned away from this stupid club because of my attire. I'm supposed to be there for a birthday party. My knit shirt from Nordstroms "doesn't have a collar" and the bouncer didn't like my shoes either.
Do ya think I'll ever go back there?
At 7:10pm I arrived at the Edison for my friends birthday get together, I had sneakers on (I had just come from work) And had missed the dress code cut off by 10min so I left but because my friends are better people than the management and door man at the Edison they finished there drinks and left as well, most never to return.
I've been told this place is full of rude staff and ridiculous costumers and now I can confirm this, spend you money where you will be treated like a person, there much better places nearer by.
If you would like to make a table reservation at ANY Hollywood venue simply email hollywood VIP access @ gmail . com
dont know what these pro reviewers have been smoking but they couldnt have been at the same club. Rudest punks at the door I have ever seen. Food poor, drinks poor- overpriced with abysmally slow service.
Better to sit at home and pour yourself drinks while listening to Xm radio than to waste time and money here
Shameful!
Went last night to try and enjoy the festivities. We were with a very large group of people..one of which was told at the door that he couldn't come in because his arms weren't covered. (mind you, he was wearing a badassed outfit resplendent in "edison-esque attire" a very nice vest and shirt underneath that happened to be cut at the shoulders. He looked better than most of the men pa...
I just came back from this place and I am certainly not going there ever again. My friend had a birthday reservation for a large group of people at 9.30 pm; however guests arrived (me included) at 10pm simply because parking there is a nightmare. We were told that since we were not there on time at 9.30 all guests have to wait in the regular line. The security treated us like we were criminals...
This is a cool venue with a steampunk theme. However, the staff is rude rude rude. It doesn't matter how often you come here or how much money you spend, the staff will pretend like they do not recognize you and will even possibly school you. Service is slow for drinks and food. Worth visiting once for the decor and the venue itself, but I doubt I'll be back ever again.
This is my favorite bar in LA, mostly do to the style of the place. Great lighting, usually jazzy or big band music, and fun old silent movies or steam-punk cartoons playing on the screens. The drinks are a bit expensive, but they are half off during happy hour. Plus, there is an 'absinthe fairy' that pushes a little cart around of delicious absinthe cocktails!
I love going to the edison in downtown. Finding street parking is a problem around there BUT the place is great if you want to get a few drinks at night. I like the music there and its a nice place to be after a long day at work!
The Edison needs all new personnel, including the on site managers. This type of business needs excellent customer service...right you go to hang out with friends to have a good time. I mean you want to enjoy your self and spend your hard working money at this place but not when security is breathing down your neck and calling more security to our table to watch our every move. The Edison`s perso...
Perfect example of how a truly awesome bar can be ruined by management. A text of mine to a friend at the beginning of the night reads "Edison is great - we have to come here." 30 minutes later I changed my mind and really don't ever want to spend my money there again. To start, before I ever had to deal with management I watched the GM (a very very bitter and mean blonde woman) yell at an employ...
The worst door mans on earth!!! They make people with reservations and hot girls wait in line. The music horrible, unless you like regular radio music. Funny thing, I went to this place the night before and it was not spectacular.
The Edison is one of my favotire bars downtown. It's old Hollywood meets downtown LA with a very diverse crowd and not too crowded. Love this place!
Great Bar and Night Club. It feels like you have walked back in time to the 20's. The drinks are great and so is the food. I love the burlesque show and jazz band. The green ferry is also a great touch!!
Still, toast with cheese is the best combo, don't ya think? On 2nd Street in downtown LA, in the heart of the classic movie theater district
Yo I always try and go to The Edison when i am in LA... Its a classy place with a great atmosphere. This is a great place to party
I live above this bar. When i moved in I had dreams of client meetings, parties, and even just grabbing a drink after work in such a cool interesting place, which was now my basement. The bouncer knows me and knows Im a resident, but still turns away my clients/friends over the shoe thing. Not only is it embarrassing, but just plain retarded. I usually dress up to go down there myself, but i ...
I love going to The Edison. The concept and design are gorgeous and really does take you back in time. The drinks are delicious and festive -- but will set you back if you order one of their specialty cocktails ($13!) You won't be listening to any hip-hop and reggae, strictly ballroom or swinger-style, if you please.
Be prepared to wait in line.... the last time I went here I spent almost...
I had my boyfriends birthday here in a private room. The GM was BEYOND rude and the special events cord was clueless. I already was paying a good amount for the room and they managed to charge me an extra $530 for nothing except that one of their girls "accidently" charged it to my account and didn't apologize for this massive amount. I had a drink tab and while the charge went through over th...
The Edison is a great place to meet your co-workers, take off your tie, and have a few drinks. I highly recommend it when they have live music playing too. It is spacious and has a great mix of people. It's typical yuppy crowd and the service is very sweet. Food is phenomenal! The sliders are great. The sweet potato fries are delicious and go by quickly. When you've had a rough day at the o...
This place has a good energy about itself, Dim, dark, and just fly. I was actually there to get some of that new absinthe. Anyone know where i can get some?
The Edison is a wonderful lounge for off-beat & artist types who dislike dance clubs, and just want to go sit on a couch and drink martinis with minimal 'hype'. The music is relatively easy-listening and not too loud (though we went on a Thursday night-not sure if the musical genres change for the weekends).
They screen silent nior films on one of the walls, which worked out great for my film...
gents, and anyone wearing rubber soled shoes, this review is for you. i was looking forward to coming to this place because i had heard some good things from a few people and liked the website. my friend, his fiancee and i were coming for a private party and were on the guest list. we show up saturday night, 10pm. i'd love to tell you about my experience inside, but by 10:01 my night was sent...
This place is amazing! I came on a whim to "rescue" a friend but we ended up staying for a bit. I love the old school decor! The lighting and all makes you feel like you?re in a movie scene from way back in the day. The bartenders as well as the hostess are all dressed the part. There was a really nice mixed crowded and everyone was really chill, no attitudes (that I ran into anyway). And the doo...
Great place to meet up with friends after work! Especially since the happy hour drinks are great! 25 cent martinis!! The inside is very unique...It has that old 1920's decor, with brick walls and the soft music of edith piaf playing.
First and foremost the door guy: He was interesting in his way of making himself seem important! He did however build up the place to be exclusive to the right party goer! Overall I was pleased. The atmosphere is sophisticated, unique and inviting definitely a 10. The service we received was beyond our expectations and completely gratifying. The appetizers; calamari, and The boiler is delicious w...
As everyone else who has been there says, the place looks fantastic. Each visit I notice a new detail or two.
The Edison is a great place. Very swank, but relaxing at the same time. Definitely a great place to visit if you're tired of the whole Hollywood scene. And you can't be their happy hour! 25 cent martinis!!!
It's unsurprising that, after haunting this place for over a year, that lines have begun to form around the block to get into the Edison: it is arguably the best bar in Downtown LA.
The cavernous art-deco speakeasy, with its preserved antique power generators and silent films projected on the walls, has a terrific '20s feel that will doubtlessly leave a lasting impression on first-time patrons...
We went to the Radio Room on a Tuesday night and found a sassy cabaret show going on, WOW! The steamy ambience of the Edison was really turned up between incredible drinks, the performances of their Mistress with songs and a whip, a enticing belly dancer, a magician, not to mention the absinthe presentation! We never wanted to go above ground again. What a great way to start our week. I?m a Radi...
I live in the Higgins building and go here all of them time, every visit I make, I bring new friends with me who are always amazed by this space. The best vintage club in town, along with Bordello.
Went for the grand opening and it's tragically lovely. Don't get me wrong...the place is labyrinthine and wondrous, but nothing seems real. I give it points for trying, but really it's just another result of the Mockristocracy.
I always have a good time here. Get here early is highly recommended! Good environment, mainly older crowd, no hollywood stuck up types haha. Interior design is great as well. The bartenders are good and fast. No major complaints here ;)
Incredible space. Vast ceilings, beautiful old boiler room, shadow puppets and old movies projected silently on walls... and a barista who made drinks like a romantic scientist... It was as if he was counting the shakes of ice to ensure that the perfect ratio of water would melt in to his concoction.. every time. I am thrilled to have found a bar in LA that I feel like going to and that is memora...
This place is always impressive but Wednesday nights bring it to a whole new level. There is this sort of moulin rouge meets burning man circus that goes on as entertainment that has to be seen. It is works very well with the time period and aesthetic that they are going for in the bar. The idea and execution are fantastic. A great place if you want to dress up. The drinks are good too.
Went to the Edison on Wednesday night for the "Lucent Dossier" event. The dress code seemed to be more relaxed because of the event. Many people dressed in costume for the Moulin Rogue meets a twisted Circus show that went on that night. The "show" was amazing, and well worth the $20 admission. Performers interact with the crowd and make the night surprising and exciting! The Lounge itself, ...
Bravo to the Edison for bringing nightlife back to downtown LA. Although a bit cavernous and noisy, the Edison succeeds in being a fun eccentric venue that's the perfect spot to drop by for a drink. Good bar scene, although a bit too hip at times, but continues to entertain. parking can be a bit tricky but not too much of a problem. Thursday night seems to be the best with some good retro ban...
Last night I went to The Edison for the first time. My friend bragged about how it?s sophisticated, relaxed, and ?not Hollywood.? So I was surprised when the door guys, Brian and the bald guy, were the stereotypical ?Hollywood door guy on an ego trip,? with no manners, not very professional, and pretty rude. But the inside of the club was really nice with cool, chill people. I like the decor a...
6/28 My boyfriend and I decided to visit the Edison for the first time. The bouncer was so friendly and down to earth, he let us off easy since we had no reservations to get in and it being our first time there. We got in after waiting in line for no more than 15 min. This place is beautiful with the way they decorated this place! It's amazing to look at. The crowd has a little of everything, cl...
We did go there on Friday night around 12:30, got in very easy and very friendly bouncer, I liked inside decoration especially if you have somebody from out of the town would be good recomindation, Drink were good and staff friendly. the only turn off for this bar would be the Crowd, I'm not sure becuase it was Friday night or normally they aren't that many people in there and not that many cute ...
Threw a private party in the game room and had the greatest experience. Our planner Zack was amazing and accomodating! The inside staff was wonderful. The server really took care of my group with speed and great service, putting up with several highly intoxicated people. As well as Matthew who helped me out several times during the night with some of my needs. I would go here again and definetly...
The Edison is an amazing space visually and is worth going for that alone. I have been two times now an am not sure I will return however. The staff is very rude and obnoxious. We were there for a Cirque Du Soleil type event and the staff kept moving people around, telling us where we could stand, where we could or could not sit. There were very rude and pompous, not at all courteous. They acted...
This place is unbelievable, and has true downtown class. The security and staff are all very welcoming, and the food is excellent. I recommend this bar over any in Los Angeles. You can reserve tables online, No cover, full of good looking people, and perfect for any occasion.
I love LA. There are so many cute bars, restaurants, and clubs and ... I highly recommend this place for after-work cocktails & romantic dates! ;) The ambiance is simply magical from unique decors, black & white films, humongous juke box, and classy patrons... absolutely my favorite!
Two of my friends and I stopped by here on a Saturday night for drinks before heading off to another party. We got there around 8:30, and while we couldn't find a table (all reserved) we managed to find two empty seats at the end of the bar. I ordered what ended up being a very strong lemon drop for myself and a dessert platter for all of us. Twenty bucks for an amazing collection of fresh cook...
Been here a couple of times, all my friends love it, except for the long line if we get there too late
Excellent Service, beautiful place, and wonderful crowd. Would go here again and again ...
After seeing their snazzy website and reading some reviews, I really wanted to give The Edison a try. We got there around 9:30ish and there was already a huge line.... We waited about an hour and a half before the bouncer came around and told everyone that we'd have to wait another hour and a half, minimum. After that point we left. Maybe at some point in the future I'll try making reservations b...
There is no sign outside for the two floor vintage bar.The entrance is actually on Harlem Place Alley, sort of hidden until you see bouncers and a red velvet rope outside. Get there before 9:30 p.m. to avoid lines. The dress code is strict, our friend who joined separately got turned away for wearing tennis shoes, but it's worth the pretentiousness, because once you enter through huge metal gates...
I went to this place with my buddy from Dallas. We had a blast! Tons of friendly people. Awesome atmosphere. The singles scene is great! The dancers and bar tenders are awesome! It was none stop fun. Best thing is there is not a cover! You need to approach from the alley and there is usually a line, but definitely worth the wait. Get in, get a drink, and get down!
From the moment that I walked up to the friendly fedora-clad door guys, I knew that this would be an experience to behold. The hostesses were dressed in 20's style ball gowns and walked my party and me down a spectacular staircase. The grandeur of this space (kept faithfully in a turn-of-the-century style with a modern sensibility) was only outdone by the intimacy of the rooms in which one can ...
My reservation was for 8:30 and my group was not seated until 9:00. When were were finally at our table it took another twenty minutes to find our waitress and have our drink order taken. The specialty drinks on the menu are misleading because no where in the ingredient description did it say that the drink called the Edison had bourbon and when we asked the waitress what it had she told us. We s...
Massive place, unique and cool art deco design, great scotch list, excellent happy hour, no lines, no cover!
Basically, what more do you want?
The entrance to The Edison is located in an alley-way between Main and Spring Street in Downtown LA. This is the hippest lounge that I have been to in a long time. The drinks are fantastic (I recommend the Lady MacBeth), the food is great (they have everything from sweet potato fries to chocolate chip cookies and milk), and the service is just as good as the food and drinks. My friends and I h...
my buddies and i just left the staples center lakers game, and we wanted anice spot to grab some drinks. we heard of Edison, so we went there. Great staff, good drinks, slow bartenders though. super hot girls, but worth the wait. never have been there for happy hour. interesting smoking area
I love the space and design. For that, it's one of the best bars in LA. Otherwise, it's okay. I didn't find the crowd or anything else to be much better/worse than other LA spots. Saturday night is average but I like the performances - they keep you entertained. Otherwise it can just be any other bar really. Crowd is okay. It's a large space to walk around in, so you can wander around. We...
The Edison downtown LA is an amazing upscale bar located in an old basement boiler room. They preserved the old furnishings and added in comfortable seating and couches, with some amazing artwork too. The crowd is a bit snooty but that's what they want. I'd prefer the goons in black coats backed into the back room however. They can make an otherwise comfortable night seem like an investigatio...
When I walked in, I was amazed at the design. It's an interior designer's dream. Later in the night, some girls in flapper attire came out to dance, it was just great.
I think the service in this club is outstanding. Every employee, from the doormen to the bathroom attendants, the bartenders and the managers were really friendly and helpful - something of an anomaly in the LA club scene. We went for my best friend's birthday last Saturday with no reservations (get there before 10 - no waiting) and had a blast. The space is gorgeous, the drinks were strong, a...
I can't describe how awesome this place is. It's like Batman's bat cave meets Thomas Edison's laboratory. The drinks are strong, and the food delicious. I had a speakeasy rum drink that took me through the entire night. I know where my over-the-hill party will be held. Bouncers are cool, didn't hassle me or any of the males in my group about dress code, because although not dressed to the ni...
I've been to a lot of bars in this city--and all over the world--and this has to be one of the most gorgeous I've ever seen. I like that it's real, not showy with whistles and bells (or more likely lights that change colors and fun on the walls). It's just classic, refurbished old machinery from what used to be (i think) LA's first water and power plant. I love the secret alley entrance. The happ...
I moved to LA from NYC in 2003 and have been bored ever since.
It is about time that LA got some style that wasn't so HOLLYWOOD S*#@ . Downtown LA will never be a Chicago or NYC but with places like the Edison it has a fighting chance to boast some urban flair. Beautiful lay out and the talent is very entertaining. Door men are professional and polite.
I just went yesterday for Happy Hour with a couple of co-workers and I had a really nice time. I'd describe the crowd as attractive professionals mellowing out after a long day. The peach whisper was awesome! And I think it had me whispering a little too much! lol The decor is amazing! Great job! Definitely going next Thurs!!!
THE ATMOSPHERE 1930 INDUSTRIAL !!1 DARK AND SO SEDUCTIVE I LOVE IT YOU CAN FIND YOUR OWN LIL CORNER AND SIT AND JUST HAVE DRINKS WITH FRIENDS OR YOU CAN GO AND JOIN THE CROWD AND MINGLE , DRESS CODE IS INFORCED SO GRAB THE MANOLOS GIORLS AND GUYS NO SNEAKS !!! GREAT DRINKS TH ECOSMOS ARE TO DIE FOR !!! LOVE THE EDISON !!!
WOW! is what you say when you get there, very nice looking, different from other bars, people nicely dressed made it seem like you were in a vip lounge. everyone was very nice once they finally acknowledged you. the bouncer was very cool, saying "the bar is downstairs, feel free to use any table that isn't reserved" They were ALL reserved! this is at 8pm! whats the point of opening and having all...
The Edison is a great bar. First of all its huge and always a great crowd whether its after work or on the weekends. If you are downtown, its a great place to check out.
first and foremost, for you guys out there, WEAR DRESS SHOES. yes, some of you guys might have nice clean deisel, trendy type shoes. But i still wouldn't take the chance. They are very strict with their dresscode.
moving on, the ambience is incredible. An old-school 1910's look. The dark colors of their walls, furniture and bar are easy on the eyes. The ambience is incredible, like you'r...
You guys must work there for those rather nice reviews!
Awsome bar\decor on the inside!! and.. well.. Thats about it! Security was totally rude and snobby! Drink prices were awfully expensive and not strong at all not to mention the average 10 minute wait for each drink! The line to get in was a living nightmare i might as well should have gone to privilige area or some other lame club in hol...
... I ordered a Hangar One Citron Martini with a SPLASH of cranberry juice. I got a sticky glass of cranberry juice with MAYBE a thimble full of Vodka... the dried out lime peel that was shriveled and stuck to the side of my glass accompanied my sad excuse of a cocktail perfectly... this of course, was after paying $300 to be ushered into the bar, passed the line that stretches all the way to Ho...
been to the edison twice now, it's a wannabee big city bar. the interiors look like vegas. you have to walk through a bouncer to use the toilet if the dance floor is closed. bartenders are slow and not very skilled.
2nd time i tried to go to edison i couldnt get in, yet people exiting complained of no airconditioning, and why there was aline when the place was empty. after talking to the boun...
I don't know what these other people are talking about, I have been to the Edison and the doorman wasn't that pompous. I actually came in some really nice jeans, a collared blk ax shirt with pink nike flip flops during happy hour and they let me in, my hubby came in ax camo long shorts and a diesel t-shirt w/flip flops and they let him in. I have never seen any burlesque dancers there....i thin...
Food was excellent in flavor and in presentation, the bartenders were nice and friendly (unfortunately can not say the same for our cocktail waitress...) Hostess, Bussers and Door people very cordial. I agree the music leaves much to be desired and the jukebox selection is even lousy but man you can't beat the atmosphere nor the comfortable and ample seating areas. Menu items that were deliciou...
I've been to The Edison 3 times, all of which I've enjoyed. The last time was almost unpleasant as one of the male members of the group had to slip the door guy a cool bill to let our group of 6 in so we didn't have to wait more than 2 minutes as was the line down into the alley. All in all the music is loud the crowd is attractive and I'm friends w one of the bartenders aka a great hook-up. I wo...
I've been here twice for drinks and each time I had a blast - the decor and vibe is wonderfully cozy and intimate (like a speakeasy) with comfy chairs, the specialty cocktails and bar food are yummy (although I wish they would have more finger foods) - my favs so far are the lillet martini, the mini cupcakes, the elvis (mini peanut butter and banana sandwiches) and sweet potato fries. More impor...
This place has great ambience and I love the size...even when there's a lot of people, it's not crammed because there is just so much space. I haven't been back since, though, because the music was so awful...I cringe at the thought of it (I think it might've been jazz music). This place needs hip-hop music to liven it up.
Walking in I was floored by the beautiful layout of the place. The space was beautiful and I could really see the potential. We didn't have to wait in line as we showed up very early, so I had no problems with the bouncer other than the usual bouncer complacency, which is always a great way to enter a new place (insert sarcasm here.) It was when I stepped up to the bar to get a drink that thin...
This place has potential. The architecture and the interior design are a must see, for anyone who enjoys those types of things. But the managment of the Edison needs to seriously rethink it's dress code and overall attitude towards it's patrons. I waited in line for half an hour, the doormen tried to give me cr@p but eventually let me in basically because my girlfriend is hot. What a warm wel...
Although this place is nice to look at, it is definately not worth the rude behavior of the bouncers and the bartenders. It may be worth seeing once but not worth a second visit. For some reason this bar likes to keep people waiting outside and when you get in, there is hardly anyone in there. It just seems stupid let in a large number of people close to last call, this just causes people to drin...
I have now visited The Edison enough times to realize their staff has let the beauty and uniqueness of the place's design get to their heads. The room is truly awesome to look at and the burlesque shows are super fun, but over-all the management takes itself WAY TOO SERIOUSLY. OK people, we are not curing cancer here- lighten up! The only staff that seems to be enjoying themselves are the dancer...
My DP & I stumbled on "The Edison" while exploring downtown last night. I've been to clubs in London, Berlin, Paris & New York, and this is better than anything I've ever experienced. From the time we descended the stairs the music caught me. The vibe is so smoothe, so classy, so intelligent. Thank God for Andrew and Marc! For they've brought something to LA that I had to travel to London to find...
All the complaints about the dress code just say one thing. Edison is not for them....
Edison seems to be going for an upscale crowd to match their ambiance. Like New York and London this place is going for a new kind of vibe. Returning to a time when people would dress up to go out. It is like choosing a restaurant either you want fast food or healthy or luxurious.
That is what is so grea...
If you are a young, creative person hoping to find cool new places to hang downtown and meet others like yourself, you better scratch The Edison off your list... The ridiculously unwarranted, pretentious dress code aside, the only scene you'll find here is that of pretentious, vapid, sycophants desperate for "it" recognition. Why come here when you could go to 40 Deuce which achieves the same am...
What a dynamitle place! From the first moment we walked in the door of The Edison we were enchanted. It's like we were transported back in time. So refreshing to meet doormen who not only looked the part, but were also gracious and polite. Once inside we were mesmerized by the decor and the throwback feel of The Edison. We loved the clever cocktail menu as well the beautifully talented dancers t...
The door men are horrible here. They have decided to start enforcing a dress policy of no tennis shoes which is fine but their definition of a tennis shoe is ridiculous. I was wearing a designer leather shoe that the doorman claimed was similar to an athletic shoe and he wouldn't let me in. I waited for a while as my girlfriend went in and told our friends who were having a party there that we ...
My experience of The Edison was BAD! My husband and I plus couple of our friends want to hang out on a Sat night, and one of our friends told us this ?HOT? place to go. We got there around 9:45p.m. The doorman made us wait in line, when there are only a few people in front of the door.
We waited around 30 minutes, and there are more and more people get into the ?VIP? line (in front of the door)....
Celebrated B-day at the Edison this past Friday with a group of 40 or so friends. Figured it was the perfect downtown venue to invite my friends and attorney colleagues. WHAT A MISTAKE! The doorman refused to admit some of my guests and he lectured the ones that he did let in. Kind of reminded me of that annoying high school teacher we all had. This guy has some nerve, the last thing a group...
The decor is unbeatable. it's like a museum down there. the rest of it is expendable. snooty bouncers with their "dress code". we're in downtown, the vibe down here is supposed to be relaxed and welcoming. Eight dollar beers and an ambiance that says, "you must be this cool to enter our bar" is not relaxed and welcoming.
Hey, I tried to get in but I guess my skin is a little too dark or brown for them. Guys we're in downtown - grow up and learn from the other venues that are opening up around town. Peace, love and sharing is the new downtown vibe.
I decided to take a chance on The Edison last night, to celebrate my friends birthday. I AM SO GLAD I DID! First off, the place is massive-every step leads you to another room full of amazing architecture and machinery. This is one of the most visually stunning bars I've ever been to-and I have been to quite a few. According to past reviews I read, it seems some people have had a problem with ...
I'm so glad this place exists downtown because it really adds to its growing nightlife. The ambiance and nostalgia of a different time puts you in a different world. Don't expect to dance, and yes- it's pretty crowded. However, it's worth it for at least ONE experience. The decor alone is just amazing and totally unique compared to many LA clubs and lounges. However, the drink menu can impro...
First of all, a line at midnight? I don?t fu@@ think so and anyone who knows me would tell you that I dont do lines. EVER.
So that was just the beginning. I just so happened to be standing in line behind some beautiful coquettes which made the experience less like hell when a ?Hipster?? passed us on his way out and called us ?loosers trying to get in?. His dinky entourage of two scragly stray ...
So why, why? WHY? mix a watery drink? I have nothing but good things to say about this place save for the fact that the drinks are not just weak, but EXTREMELY weak. Please, put some fire in the glass - The Prohibition is long-since dead.
Door guys were great. Went there on a saturday. The doorman greeted me with a smile, a rarity in los angeles I think, and when I entered the place, a Lounge, not a club I am to understand, was blown away by the space. It's like something from a Jules Verne novel. Very cool.
After making our way through the nooks and crannies, there's a lot of place to explore here, We made our way to the bar. ...
I was very impressed first of all with the space, it's truly beautiful, but What really stood out was the staff. The service at the bar is fast and friendly and the security detail make you feel both safe and welcome. In particlar I have to mention Mick, even with a line of people waiting to get in and not all happy about it he maintaines a very pleasant disposition and is very helpful. Speaking...
Wow, what can I say. I was very very disappointed. I read the reviews, expected so much and this place just does not deliver. I arrived on Saturday and the doorman said, "Welcome to The Edison", Enjoy yourself Sir . Before even entering I asked him how long the "club" had been opened and he informed me that The Edison was not a "club" but a "lounge". Well, okie dokie, I stepped into the lou...
This place is by far one of the most intriguing spots in Los Angeles! Finally, a place in LA where you can get away from the vainglory of Hollywood. I have been to Edison several times and it has never failed to disappoint me. As others have mentioned, there is a strict dress code but that is one of the wonderful things about it! It makes for a great crowd - upscale and eclectic. The drink me...
We went there before it's official opening and enjoyed it a lot, though the service was terrible. We figured it was because it was new and they didn't quite have their act together yet. We went back after the official opening and were immediately turned off by the attitude of the doormen. I was wearing a nice pair of plaid slacks and was told that in the future, they'd be enforcing a dresscode...
Most clubs are not entertaining. They may have a band, but that's same-o, same-o. The Edison entertains you. Movies on the walls and dancers, The atmospher was fun, no pressure to dance, conversation was possible, and a up-scale dress code. I would reccomend that the men call prior to going and find out what is acceptable as I did witness some men being turned away. The doormen are strict b...
A win win for the ladies. A dress code! How great is that. You can meet men that know how to pull thier pants up! So sick of seeing boxers, eewwww! You get to show off that new dress you have been dying to wear but had no classy place to go. Bring it on. Only men that know how to act like a gentleman and can dress the part are getting in. The guys were hot, the security hotter. The atmos...
Had a good time. Fun place for the girls and I. Heavy on "old downtown" history with its decor. Very good entertainment value, the dancing girls kept the place hopping. Very disappointed with the lounges advertising on this site. I planned an evening of DINNER, drinks and entertainment. No restaurant available. It wasn't open yet. I was starving all night. The lines were too long to ...
You can find a good club anywhere, but a unique club is what I found on Saturday night. I took a friend of a friend's recommendation that I check The Edison out. I was told, prior to going. that there was a dress code (slacks, no tennis shoes, no T-shirts, a safe bet was a long sleeve dress shirt) and that by dressing up I was actually going to enhance my experience. They were right! The clu...
We paid $600 for a reserved area with bottle service and waited 45 minutes for a waitress to show up. The bar is absolutely beautiful, music is awful, crowd was dull.
As a downtown "loft dweller" I think Edison is a wonderful addition to the wide array of bar/lounges around this area and is probably the most unique. They stay true to the era theme; the music, the dancers, the furniture, and the entire look and feel of the place. It is big, but subtly divided into several different areas, which gives you the urge to venture around the place and talk to differen...
I rarely venture into the downtown area but last weekend I went along with a few friends to a place I was assured would be something entirely different then I was used to. It did not disappoint. This is by far one of the most unique and original clubs that I have been to. They have attempted to give it a 1920s vibe that makes it look a lot like something you?d find in Gotham City. You enter from ...
Previous reviews caught my attention...thanks for the advise!
Yup, this place is realy cool. I will be brief...
-Door men can be jerks, but they let you slide if it's your "first time". Guys should wear shirts with shoes, no kicks
-Drinks average about $10.
-Eclectic crowd. F/M ratio was good.
-Plenty of space to hang out.
-Music can get old after 20 minutes...there is only so much of 1920'...
I went to the Edison a couple of times and it was great. The interior is amazing and truly one of a kind. The crowd is young and trendy, the drinks are good, and the place is not crowded like the typical bar/club in hollywood. Its roomy with plenty of room for seating. Its a good place for a large group. I went last weekend with a large group, most of whom where from out of state. I was eag...
I have to completely agree with the previous reviewers. This bar has the most amazing interior I have seen. It's spacious but not crowded, not too loud, eclectic music selection, unpretentious people, old movies projected on huge screens on the walls, and very upscale. The only problems, which are mostly minor, are lack of parking in a scary neighborhood, weak drinks, no photography allowed, a...
Just one of the coolest interiors you will ever see. The coal bins, generators and furnaces have been kept intact, in a huge basement room , with 20 foot high ceilings. Two huge bars, cool jukebox and also a small stage for bands to play.
the only drawback is the massive size. Even with the cool factor and downtown renassaince, I see them having a hard time filling this place up
I attended the grand opening of the Edison. It is beautiful and fun without being snobby. Eclectic mix of people, awesome drinks and the atmosphere was unbelievable! It's more obscure than any place in Silverlake and more trendy then any Hollywood bar, but its not pretentious at all. I am going back again for sure!
I attended an event last night and I am so happy I decided to venture downtown. One of the most unique venues in Los Angeles, the Edison Bar is a spatial and visual delight! The vibe is industrial, artsy and eclectic. I had the pleasure of dancing, drinking and feasting in a crowd that was unpretentious and knew how to have a rousing good time. My advice is to GO, the loft dwellers downtown shou...
