This was really good sushi from a lover of CA rolls, Unagi and Miso Soup. I am not the most adventurous, but I know what I like ... and that is, clean - affordable - quality sushi. This place fits the bill. In fact, I found it through citysearch and saw all of the fantastic reviews and thought, why not? So, I did and here I am adding to them. There are a couple of bad reviews, ignore them. This p...
Wow! Better than I've had in Japan and that's where the fish is coming from. How's that possible?
Started with the King Crab Sunomono appetizer is fantastic it had the sea salt flavor from the sea.
Their uni is so sweet and fresh. Love their live sweet shrimp. Most times I get the heads fried like popcorn shrimp. Their spanish mackerel is soooooo good with grated ginger and ponzu sauce...
I came here ready to eat everything on the menu! And the food was great but i could have ate more, as fat as that sounds...I like this place just as much as i like Club Sushi
The sashimi is outa control! You're at the right place if you want great sushi and sashimi. But if you're looking for good sushi and a place to drink after you should check out Ike Sushi. Sushi Go 55 is da SPOT!
This is a really good sushi spot. Very family-oriented. Good for groups too...but if you want a nice young professional type of place...Club Sushi is the spot with wonderful prices.
i liked everything but the ambience.
Sushi Go 55 consistently has the freshest and best-tasting fish I've had in LA. This is a traditionalist's sushi place - if you're looking for out-of-the-box bizarro rolls, go somewhere else. But for straightforward, high-quality sushi and sashimi, you can't go wrong here. I'm shocked to read stories about sub-par service - my experience is that the service is attentive without being oppressive. ...
This place has some really nice fresh sushi that's pretty affordable. The miso is so good that it's worth coming here for the soup alone. Lunch is pretty busy so go early.
I went to Sushi Go 55 after hearing about it on NPR's Off Ramp.
I recommend sitting at the bar and letting the sushi chef prepare what he wants for you, omakase style. The fish was fresh, the sushi very flavorful, but definitely not for the faint of heart!
If you're bold, try the live sweet shrimp sushi. As its name implies, the shrimp are killed right in front of you and go from aquarium ...
I really don't know if I would come here again. The food was excellent (I was surprised by how good it was actually) but the service was very below average. The servers took a long time to let me order even when I waved them over. The location is annoying to get to but wouldn't hurt this place if their service was any better. The food would be the only reason for me to come here again. Go if you ...
Well ? I think this place is totally over rated.
I don't want to stop by again or sugest for someone.
I say that because I been going to Little Tokyo snice 1976 when its was all Japanese.. Not to many americans.. Sushi Go Go has fresh fish but most american don't know about fish being in season, so sometime your not going to get something your looking to eat, which is good because any other Sushi bar will give it to you. As being a customer your, Sushi Chef will always remember what you like to e...
Well.. I have been to my fair share of japense/seafood/sushi places from coast to coast (La, Denver, Green Bay) So let me sum this up, best as I can. The location....not bad actually, It was my first time going there so I was a little nervous since its downtown but there is a parking garage that has the 1st hour free!! and hey, in LA who passes up free parking??.. Which was great because I wa...
When I saw that this restaurant had five stars and such low prices, I thought "Wow, this must be one of those super cool holes in the wall that you only stumble upon by accident or have to hear about through your friends," but I was wrong. The sushi was sub average at best (I could get the same quality at any higher end supermarket for much less money) and the service was absolutely abysmal. It...
Been to this place a couple of times now and each time has been a good experience. The sushi/sashimi always seems fresh, the service is good and you get good value for your money. There are some really tasty dishes on the appetizer/specials menu in addition to good sushi. This is one of the better places in the Little Tokyo area. I can't say it's the best because I haven't been to every one o...
Just went to Sushi Go 55 again for the thousandth time. Alway a favorite. Everytime I have a craving for sushi, I always end up here. We've tried other sushi places, but this one remains on top of the list. Their fishes are fresh, the staff is polite and very knowledgeable. Don't know what to order? Ask the sushi chefs and they'll lead you in the right direction. I highly recommend the anag...
Don't go here if you are looking for seaweed salad. You would be better off going to the grocery store downstairs. But, if you let the chef guide you to what is most fresh, you should have a great meal.
Sushi Go-55 is a low key sushi joint located in the little Toyko district of Downtown. Fish here as been good quality, although last time the toro didn't seem too fresh (was way too cold and hard). They offer freshly grated wasabi, though at $6. The red snapper is excellent, and most of the other rolls and sushi are as well. The prices are moderately higher than other places, and expect to spend ...
If this is the best Sushi place downtown L.A., then I'm SCARED! The seaweed salad was nothing I've ever had before...it wasn't bad, but definitely not good. The rolls we had were on the same level as the refridgerated rolls you buy at the grocery store. I should have figured the place wasn't as good as people have reviewed, since the place was dead. Even though service was pretty good and the...
Considering how many people say that they like sushi, it's interesting how many don't really like fish. The important thing is the flavor of the fish, and some of the oilier types smell "fishy" even when they are fresh because that's how they taste and smell. Maybe there was something wrong with the ventilation for the earlier reviews, but I didn't notice the smell. I was also glad to see a bo...
Not a bad thing to say about Sushi Go 55. Great Sushi, incredible service, and easy to get a table. I go at least once a month and I have never been disappointed.
Head and shoulders above most all sushi bars having unique fresh selections. You don't come here to order California rolls, catepillars, krunch, or salmon skin handrolls (Chevrolet stuff). Try the flying fish, Kumamoto oysters, tai, mirugai, or saba with shiso leaf or kazunoko as otsumami (appetizers) or as sushi. Drink with Otokoyama sake (this is where the good stuff begins, never order house s...
I've read all the rave review regarding Sushi Go 55, and finally decided to try it. I did notice the small fishy smell in the restaurant, but it could be due to poor air circulation. The wait staff was nice and attentive, but when it gets busy it could be hard to get their attention. I ordered variety of dishes to get a broad perspective on the restaurant. The tempura was excellent, grilled e...
I will start by saying that I have eaten in over 100 sushi places all over the world in the last 30 years. I consider my self a sushi expert. And for that matter a very picky eater. I am also very health conscious. I have a rule, never eat in a place that smells fishy. When my wife and I walked in we smelt fish, but since she is Asian, it didn't bother her. So she convinced me that since it...
My Boyfriend and I Love this place enough to go three times in one week. The sushi chefs are great.. and the waitresses are sweet... The sushi is very fresh melts in your mouth and especially love the sweet shrimp.....I definitly give five stars to this place......when you go there make sure you buy the sushi chefs a beer they deserve it......
I really like the Sushi restaurant and "Sushi Go 55" is the best place for me.
Sushi quality is very good!!! The place's owner is kind and give me a great service. I always feel as a home.
Comfortable, good food!! Please try!
i took my boyfriend to sushigo55 for his birthday. the sushi bar was full but we had a table reservation. the lighting was a little too bright, there is no romantic ambiance in the place, but the food was excellent. we had the stuffed eggplant appetizer, edamame and miso, plus the blue crab roll, the spicy scallop roll, and a few other sushi and rolls. the waitress was very helpfull in recomm...
I've been going here for a few years now, and this is my favorite sushi place in LA by far. The servers are really nice and sweet, and the fish is always fresh. The portion-sizes are great, and you definitely get your money's worth. I highly recommend the blue crab hand rolls! The chef also makes a spicy scallop roll which is very yummy.
Fresh sushi, free parking, great service, great prices...I love this place! I'm very picky about my sushi and this place has not yet failed me. The waitresses are very sweet and the service is wonderful. I work downtown L.A. and am able to drive to the restaurant (where parking is easy, plentiful and free--a boon on the weekends!) and eat in just over an hour. The prices are reasonable, and s...
Fresh Fresh Fresh!!! Excellent service. I tend to always sit at the bar. The chef gives helpful reccomendations there and with a smile. My friends and I choose this restaurant for special occasions and savour each and every moment of it. I reccomend the Spanish Mackeral as well as the Red Snapper. Mmmm, so delicious!!
First time I ate at Sushi Go 55, I went nuts over the amazing food that I went looking for an apartment nearby so that I can eat there everyday. The sushi is solid. The fish is so fresh that it melts in your mouth like butter. I highly recommend the Spanish mackerel, salmon, red snapper, tuna, amberjack, and hama hama oysters. The regulars go here because it's all about the sushi. No people watch...
So it was Thursday night around 7:30pm, expected the restaurant to be some what crowded since it's dinner time after work and it was. restaurant was clean and majority of the tables were for 2 or 4 people. i must say the presentation of sushi was great and the portions were generous, no doubt that chef is good, but the eel bento box wasn't so great, i had such a hard time trying to break eel in...
I went to Sushi Go 55 off of the rave reviews from Citysearch. After a great night with my girlfriend at the Getty, we decided to have some sushi. We made reservations for 8:30. We arrived promptly but waited 15 minutes after we arrived for a table. The waitress took our order shortly afterward. At 10 pm (around 70 minutes after the waitress took our order) the sushi chefs had still not sta...
I've been going to this place for past 2 years, almost once every 2 weeks. In the beginning, fish was fresh with various live choices certain days. Now, quality and also service is really dropping. Sushi chefs seem to be changing every few months. What's going on? New chefs are so slow. Don't go here on weekends. You'll wait forever getting your food. Also, the daily specials, although same in mo...
Valentine's Day '07, My beatiful wife and I check this place out and right away I see how authentic the layout is (My first duty station was Okinawa). From the first bite I was literally blown away by the Chef's choice. Sitting at the bar gave us the opprotunity to expand out pallate like never before and experience amazing flavors that in other places would have only been alien print to us. We'v...
Most of the places I go I order the Chirashi so I can get a sample of the sushi. So I got the Chirashi and two bento's came stacked on one another. One for the vegatable and one for the fish. Both extremely fresh. I also ordered the blue crab roll which was awesome. Needless to say with the Chirashi and the blue crab roll I was really stuffed. I've recommended the restuarant to a few friends...
The best time to come to this place is during lunch on the weekday. They have a lunch special for only $10!!! If I remember correctly there are about 8 pieces of sushi!. It also includes miso and some cold apetizer dishes. It is really more than enough for lunch. The quality of the sushi is actually very good for a price like that.
One of the best for traditional japanese sushi!!! no creamy rolls that you get at some places... this is the spot if you love the raw fish taste!
The uni, hamachi, sake were excellent!!! Nice, big slices of sushi on rice...
The albacore was a bit disappointing, but everything else was grealty superior to many other sushi restaurants.
We were there tonight for the first time and it's a fabulous restaurant. My girlfriend and I had the best sushi so far in LA. We're from San Francisco and SF has pretty high standard when it comes to sushi. Anyways, my girlfriend's favorite was the Japanese Aji sushi and mine was the spicy scallop sushi. Overall it's a great experience but a little pricey. But we'll return for sure.
I saw two negative reviews and just had to respond. I consider myself a sushi conossieur. I was introduced to sushi only 9 years ago but in that time I not only have dined in the finest sushi restaurants in the United States and continue to try it when traveling abroad; I worked in one of the finer (though more Americanized) sushi restaurants in Chicago for a year which is where I began my more t...
The best sushi I've ever had. PERIOD. The bar has been set. The chefs here are friendly and their artistry is amazing to watch. The staff is very warm and friendly. I felt as if I were in their home for a private dinner party. The Tai and Aji are AMAZING! I have no intention of going anywhere else....... I'd feel like I were cheating! I defy anyone to be less than completely satisfied! Wonderful,...
We went because of all the raving reviews, but I guess I expected too much. The sushi wasn't as fresh as I thought it would be. I was so disappointed with everything, especially the uni, my most favorite! You know how really fresh uni tastes like you've just had a taste of the sea? That fresh, clear, crisp, almost sweet taste... yeah, their uni didn't have that. It was so bland and tasteless. If ...
Went for lunch expecting more. Sushi was ok but nothing great. Service was slow and they put us in the corner of the sushi bar, even though every seat but two was available.
i had the chirashi sushi box for lunch. the service was fast and it was very good (surprisingly so especially because of the fast service). the price was reasonable given the types of fish offered. plus, parking was validated and there were ample spaces available. it was a very good lunch deal.
The sushi was pretty good but be careful about going there at night. A lady's car was broken into in the parking structure and her radio was stolen. Otherwise, it was a great time.
i am always concern about sushi anywhere I go. Because my husband business, I visit new york at least six times a year. there the best is "Bond", well sushi go 55 is in my opinion 100% comparable with bond, this is how much i like their sushi!
I went on Sat night and had some of the best sashimi in Los Angeles, the tuna, kanpachi, and tai from Japan were so fresh, excellent! I also enjoyed the sake steamed clam and steamed red snapper head, tofu, wakame and shitake mushroom served with ponzu sauce, the broth was sweet and delicious. The soft shell crab roll was a little oily for me, and the shitake mushroom with minced prawn tempura...
I have been to Sushi Go 55 many times this year since learning of it on Citysearch and they have never failed to impress. Whether you go for lunch or dinner, they always have the freshest selection of fish, the choicest cuts and the best specials. Sushi Go 55 is one of the very few sushi restaurants that serve fresh unagi, VERY different than what Americans are accustomed to. They also regularly ...
Try the TORO......it is sold at market price which can be a little bit more pricy than the other sushi but it is the most amazing thing ever, it practically melts in your mouth and is well worth at least trying. Me and my boyfriend ordered the shrimp tempura dinner to start things off, this comes with an array of little appetizers, the tempura was crisp and fresh. Next we had the yellowtail roll ...
I cannot say enough about this wonderful restaurant! Once I was introduced to this restaurant I returned weekly, (if not bi-weekly or more, sometimes twice in a day). The owner, staff, and chefs are always kind and welcoming - even during their busiest hours!
The fish is amazingly fresh, all their specials are a delicacy. I return all the time and bring the other sushi enthusiasts in my life....
I was down in LA last weekend for a company training and about 15 of us went to Sushi Go 55 on Saturday night. Not only was the food outstanding, but the staff was extremely helpful and friendly with our group. We had gone to another sushi place Friday night closer to the hotel (will remain nameless) but this one was worth the extra drive!! Highly recommended!!
I dine at this sushi restaurant almost on a weekly basis for lunch. Why? Because it is good and affordable. I usually order the "take" sushi which is a sushi combination plate. with about 8 (?) pieces of my favorite sushi plus a cucumber roll, and a variety of appetizers and miso soup. The fish is always fresh. I especially love their salmon and yellowtail. All of that for just $10! Can't beat ...
It's definitely hard to find good sushi in LA. This was such a treat. We made reservations at the bar and were seated promptly by very kind Japanese hostesses. Their amaebi (sweet shrimp) was still alive before it was served! The mirugai (jumbo clam) was perfect in texture and flavor. The hamachi was so buttery. We could've gone on and on. The check was unbelievably reasonable. We will d...
My wife and I have been going to Sushi Go 55 for many times now, the foods are good the service is above average. However, one thing bothers me is after you finish eating at the sushi bar, when the bill comes, it does not show what you have ordered. The bill only showed the total dollar amount for the food. I think it will be easier for everybody if the bill will come with a detail list of food o...
Such an unassuming location for such outstanding sushi. My wife and I have had sushi in many places from Washington D.C. to New York City to Salt Lake City. This is by far the best sushi we have ever had. Very fresh and very flavorful. We had the otoro, which was at market price and $14 for 2 pieces. Just perfect. We also had salmon, a spider roll, California roll, dragon roll, and spicy tuna. Al...
Having eaten Sushi at all the Big Name local, valley, and westside it's easy to recognize very fresh fish and large portions at a fair price. Don't miss their Lunch Special the best deal in LA.
Sit at the bar. Loved the toro sushi. Saw some really creative work by the sushi chef. Definetly worth it.
Sushi Go 55 definitely merits the high marks and recognition it has received. I was there last night for dinner with my girlfriend.
We started our evening with some hot house sake and 2 pieces of blufin toro. Wow, simply amazing! They dont list the days market price of fish. When I got my bill the two pieces of toro cost $30. That is my only complain.
The meal itself was amazing. After t...
It s a cute restaurant with a tasty food, I will recommend it to my friends.
The price are reasonable too.
The service was professional.
Go 55 65 75 and more and more
This little place is located on the top floor of the Mizuwa Supermarket building. The location is not good, but oh my! They have one of the BEST sushi in town! The sashimi is good, and fresh, and they also have some cooked la carte... with the very very reasonable price! I am very picky about my sushi, and have been going to many other top 10 sushi in LA. However, this place is always ranked...
This place has dynamite fish. I don't know how anyone finds this place because it's tucked away in this weird mall, but do yourself a favor and make the journey. I've strayed away from things like salmon over time after having much lackluster mainstream fish cuts, but this place turned my world upside-down.
the food is good here(sushi, udon) but don't order the toro(fatty tuna belly) sushi unless you wanna get ripped off!! asked the waitress how much the toro was-since it said market price-she said $7.50. i assumed $7.50 per order-but no it was $7.50 per piece i found out later after i've eaten four pieces(two order).it came out to $30 for two order of toro(4 pieces). i told her you should state pric...
This is real sushi. We have been to hundreds of different sushi houses all over the US. This is the best. Let the chef prepare the recommended specials. Only 5% of US sushi houses have fresh eel (most have frozen) The fresh eel here is the best anywhere.
Best sushi I've had in the last 5 years. Strange to find in it such an unassuming location. The service was excellent, including the extremely tasty recommendations of the Manager, Eiji Morishita (spelling?). I cannot recommend this restaurant enough, especially for the value-conscious sushi lover.
GREAT SUSHI CHEFS, GREAT SUSHI BAR, GREAT SUSHI, STRAIGHT OUT OF JAPAN!
EXTREMELY PLEASED. WILL GO BACK MANY MANY TIMES.
My friends and I have been going to Little Tokyo weekly for years, and the best find this summer has been Sushi Go 55 !!! The sushi lunch special is amazing. Everything is fresh, and the service is wonderful.
It is in the Mitsuwa Plaza on 3rd & Alameda. The parking is free.
It is the new favorite LT hot spot!
My 2nd experince wasn't as pleasant. Food was so-so. I was disappointed the sushi chef wasn't as exceptional as before - the care, attention, quality just wasn't there. I did have a nice conversation w/ the owner, learned about his background and family. In any event, this is an update from my last review...
Ambiance was reminiscent of my trips to Japan, service was beyond exceptional, chef wa...
I really disappointed food which are sushi, sashimi and tempura of this restaurant.
This is just average japanese dish, not 10 point rating food.
I was skeptical that a place with such great prices could get these kinds of reviews. I am skeptical no longer. I had the eel on rice daily special, plus saba and shad sushi. The sushi was very fresh, the eel was flavorful, and the overal presentation of the food was "aesthetically pleasing." We were seated immediately without a reservation, though the restaurant is small - reservations are proba...
This sushi place is exceptional. My fiancee and I are always in the hunt for great sushi bars and this place is GOOD!. The fresh-est fish around. We had the fresh/live amaebi, spanish mackeral, uni, magaro, toro and a host of other fresh catch. You will not be dissapointed with this sushi spot. The sushi chefs are not loud and abnoxious, but they truly display their talents where it counts. The c...
The sushi is wonderful! The fish is fresh. The toro is to die for! It melts in your mouth. The ankimo was the best I've had. Fresh wasabi and very nice ginger. Uni is very fresh and has a natural sweetness to it.
The nori seaweed is crispy when you bite into their handrolls. I like their negi hama. Yellowtail Green Onion hand roll.
You must try the shiitake ebi appetizer. Shrimp an...
Sushi Go 55 is that really rare combination of exceptionally good sushi (by anyone's standards), attentive & expert service from folks so nice that you want to keep coming back and a bill that is shockingly reasonable for the quality dining experience that you just had. The fried oysters and stuffed shitake appetizers inspired me to do my iron chef judge impression (the actress with the high voi...
One just can't throw around the word "best" in discribing sushi restaurants because let's face it, one can't have bad sushi and still live to tell about it. There are a lot of good sushi out there but I had the most amazing experience at Sushi Go 55. The friendly manager and staff took care of my weary, famished friend and I by selecting a flavorful seaweed salad, oysters fried to perfection, b...
It was a little hard to find, but definitely worth it! Great food and excellent service!
Sushi Go 55 serves fresh and delicious food that is unique and rarely seen. The service is top-notch and the people there are very friendly. This is a restaurant everyone should go to.
We are so happy to have found Sushi Go 55. There have been several other sushi restaurants in the same location over the past several years and this is the best one yet. Great service, great menu, fresh food, very nice atmosphere. We will be back again and again and again and again . . . .
Great mouthwatering sushi -- and a great selection of fresh, seasonal fish. And if you're not in the mood for Sushi, try the Japanese tapas. From the sliced conch in a light, warm broth to the vinegared crab, this might be the best Japanese food I've had in Los Angeles.
we walked into this restaurant not really expecting too much. what a surprise however. overall, the fish was quite fresh and good. the service was good and their specials are HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. i am quite particular about sushi, but i would have to say that sushi go 55 has my recommendation. it is a great bargain as well as far as sushi places are concerned.
