  2. Great food and service
The seafood here is really good, and the waiters are really helpful in explaining the menu. I had never really been to a seafood place like this before and I really enjoyed it. As you walk in downstairs it is more casual and rowdy, but the upstairs is nicer if you have a reservation for a special occasion. I would definitely recommend it!

  3. One of the best in NYC for seafood
I have been a fan of the BLT restaurants since they opened in New York. My wife and I visited the BLT Fish (upstairs) few weeks after they opened and we had an amazing meal. Upstairs called the BLT Fish which is the upscale dining and downstairs called the BLT Fish Shack and it's a lot more casuals just as the name implies. We go upstairs (reservations a must) mainly on special occasions but d...

  5. A must for seafood lovers
I've been to both parts of this restaurant BLT Fish, and BLT Fish Shack. BLT Fish is elegantly causal and has a great menu! Their fish is wild raised, the food is great, and service was great too. My boyfriend and I went there for our anniversary last Friday. It was the first time we've been there for dinner, and we had a great time. They have a retractable glass roof, and a large open kitchen, ...

  8. Fantastic Dover sole
The four of us went to BLT Fish last night and had a great time. The clear highlight was the amazing dover sole, which is definitely worthy of the press it gets. And frankly, for a $50 piece of fish, it better be! The creamed corn with chanterelles special was also incredible, but we weren't into the goat cheese risotto, surprisingly. We went because Bruni gave it three stars (twice), and we ...

  9. Bad Clams, Oysters
I went to BLT Shack (downstairs) several times years ago and had good meals but I tried it again last night and it was terrible. The clams and oysters on the seafood platter were off color and dried out. We ended up going elsewhere for a real dinner. This place no longer has the same quality as I remember from prior visits. The AC wasn't working well either.

  10. love it
Went with a few clients and had an awesome dinner. Luckily, everything was on the boss's card because the bill was ridiculous. The dover sole was amazing and they have a great wine selection. Dessert is not just dessert either - its about 3 extras by the time you leave.............lets just say the apple cotton candy did not make it past the subway ride home. Service was a little overbearing ...

My family and I had an early dinner in BLT fish 5/2/2008. Ambiance was wonderful, and that's the only thing there is in the restaurant. Our server, Faud was too pushy, our food was absolutely nothing great, the only thing good was the special which wasn't even on menu. the turbot and sides were a lackluster, especially the gnocchi, the texture was too gummy and rubbery, almost gluey. I was very excited to try BLT Fish for my birthday - but was disappointed that nothing wowed us. We ate upstairs on a Friday night and were seated right away. What can I say... it's like dining in the best seaside restauraunts accross the globe. The fish is FRESH and the atmostphere is like Cape Cod, Sydney and Long Warf... only you're here in NYC. Go early so you don't have to wait... eat downstairs where it's a little more relaxed and eat up... it's wonderful.

two thumbs up! this place is a real must. food is great and service is professional. When I walked into the restaurant there was a funny smell...not like seafood funny but like they did not clean properly. Unfortunately ,I did not listen to my instinct and sat down anyway. My nephew recommended this restaurant for our visit to New York, and it turned out to be one of the highlights of our trip! We had not made reservations, but we were seated immediately. Yes, the food is pretty good here, but trust me its NOT worth it because of the absolutely horrid service. We were seated fairly fast, but then it took a good 10 minutes to get our drinks and the place was half empty. It took another half hour for the waitress to surface to reluctantly take our order. I was a little put off by the name of this restaurant (BLT... sounds a little more casual than I was looking for), but, my goodness, what a find. I love the what they call the "Shack" at BLT Fish. It's one of the most fun and lively places in the city. I find most downtown places a bit snotty, but everyone is always as friendly as can be. Having heard the hype about the BLT locations, I thought this would be the most elegant, delicious, and fanciest lunch I've had in a while. The garlic cheese bread was tasty, though you only get one small roll of it for the table, and my salmon was grilled nicely, but did not have a ton of flavor, even with the "spicy salsa" sauce. What a treat! If you're looking for a moderately priced causal dining spot with terrific drinks and great food, the first floor cant be beat. Never have seen the dining room upstairs, and to be honest, do not want to after mowing down half the menu in the Shack. Simple, tastey and fresh are the best ways to describe. We had both types of clam chowder - The New England Chowder tasted like celery soup: it had no clam taste. And the Manhattan Clam Chowder had no thyme in it, and would have passed for a nice vegtable soup. The crab cakes were small and tastless. Fortunatly, the oysters were good, but then again they come from the sea, not an incompetent kitchen.

You would think a restaurant that accepts reservations, would know what it means. After arriving we were told to wait at the bar, where there wasn't an inch of space so we remained in the tiny area near the coat check. 45 minutes later, after being told it would be "soon", "your table is getting cleared away", and "they're paying the bill now", we opted to give our dining dollars to a more worth...
