I've been going to the VU pretty much every Friday night for the past year and a half and I never cease to have a good time whether I come alone or with friends. I dance, drink, eat and I adore the band and love the music the DJ plays during the band's breaks. Even on the nights I can't make it out, I still watch the show online. Anyone looking to have a good time should definitely consider comin...
I have been living in NYC for bit now and I have to say I love to go out and explore the scene.
I came across Village Underground by accident, now I go there all the time. The martinis are amazing and very fairly priced. THE SERVICE IS AMAZING, i've had different waiters and they were all nice, which is a rare thing in NYC. The DJ is awesome, I have been there for my birthday and a bunch of oth...
I come here to dance sometimes on Saturdays, but my favorite time to go is during the week. The band is unbelievably good, and they're funny and friendly too.
I have been to many clubs and this is BY FAR my favorite! The music is great, decor is cool, mixed crown, yummy martinis, good food, nice staff...the list goes on and on! The black and white movies complete the experience and make it so cool! Love it so much!
Have been going to this place for a while and I have to say I LOVE IT!!!! It just has everything I love. I have to say I love the fact that I can reserve a table. Gypse the party host is so easy to deal with. She isn't snooty like so many other places. I could go on and on...And really that fact that I don't have to buy a bottle to reserve is the best!! Can't wait to go back!!!
The name speaks for itself - following the stairs to a dimly lit space. It is a spot in the village that caters to an eclectic crowd - various forms of entertainers have performed there. I have seen Michelle N'degeocello, Mental Notes feat. Aminiqu??, Ragan Whiteside (jazz) Melanie Daniels (gospel) among other entertainers and they all have brought different sounds and great energy to the environ...
they have couches and a small space to dance to the live music. amazing musicians on certain nights. call for their schedule! they get some regulars which shows it's great.
Best night of my life!!!! Danced my a$$ off!! The DJ was pumpin!!!! We got a table reservation with no hassle at all and had it all night. The guys at the door didn't have that typical attitude you get from NYC bouncers. They have a great martini menu too. So much to choose from... oh i almost forgot the best part. They have an upstairs too so if you have those friends that don't like the ...
I love the Village Underground!!! The hostess Gypsee is so sweet and so quick to help. NY is filled with so many places you never know what place is good but this place is GREAT!!! From the door men to the bar MEN!!! I sent Gypsee an email and she got back to me (NO LIE) within 5 min!! by email!! and we had everything set up right away. They really take care of you at this place. My drinks ...
In this smokey, dimly-lit, crowded, music-thumping atmosphere, beware of pickpocketers !!!! I lost about $400 worth in cash, metro card, and my cell phone, which were taken from my purse as I was dancing in the SUPER CROWDED dance floor. I've lived in city for over 5 years now, been to numerous crowded clubs, and this is the first time something like this has happened. The manager said they wo...
I had my 25th birthday party here a couple months ago, and had a great time. I had actually commissioned my boyfriend with the task of making bottle service reservations in the city, but he waited too long and a week before the celebration, I still didn't have a venue settled. We ended up contacting Village Underground since I knew some friends who had had parties there before, and while there wa...
I had my graduation party here a few months back and would not hesitate to choose this venue for my next party. Gypsee, the party planner was absolutely phenomenal. Their prices are par with other Manhattan venues (would be too good to be true otherwise) but I cannot stress the service enough. We had one waitress working with us the entire night and she seemed to read my mind. Every time a mixer ...
I celebrated my 23rd birthday here in December with around 25 people. It was fantastic. At 10pm-ish, no one was there by 11pm to 12am, the place was absolutely packed. The music was the best part - all current hip hop hits - very good DJ. My friends and I had reserved a table and we spent the night dancing on the sofas and dancefloor. Gypsy Lee is a fantastic host & party-organizer and made ...
(WOW ) - the girls and I went to the FBPC well The Underground this Sat. that passed and we had so much fun and stayed until closing time. Shaun a.k.a. (SUPERMAN) & his partner were such cool guys and had their eyes on us all night to make sure we had a lovely time and no one bothered us. The location was great, the club like scene was cool, little tight but all in all it was PERFECT. We were in...
I went on one of the live music nights last Thursday. The band was greaaat!!!! Second set John Mayer sat in for about an hour and a half. What could be better than that?
Went in on a Thursday night for the first time. Great great band playing a mix of R&B, Reggae, and Latin. Cool percussion and a girl from Christina Aguilera's band who was really hot. Quite a place, and the upstairs lounge was really comfy.
Village Underground is not what I thought it would be. I enjoyed the talent from the not-so-regulars and out of towners. Didn't like the regulars, especially the female host for that night I attended. They were a bunch of church folk gone secular and were very rude to the newbies. No musicianship at all. A couple from Japan came to perform and the guitar player was awesome and even sung in japane...
I came on a Thursday. I was so happy to see Jason, Elan, Vinny, Noam, and Ron ( and even Jesus sitting in) - all those guys I remembered from the Cafe Wha. I like the room a little better because there's more room for dancing, although I still love Brian and Byron. Great sound system but the Wha has better food!
I had my birthday party at Village Undergound which I arranged through Jennifer. She is a fantastic individual to deal with. The bouncer at the door was extremely nice and let me and my friends in without a problem. From the moment we arrived until we left (around 3:30am) the music was off the hook! My friends and I were dancing all night long! The drinks were good too-strong enough to get your m...
I'm kind of surprised that this is ranked as the top dance club in NYC. Don't get me wrong--there was minimal hassle/cover at the door, the ambience was good, and the music was great most of the time. However, it seemed to me that this was just what a basic clubbing experience should be. The Village Underground doesn't really go above and beyond in any way that makes it particularly special or...
We didn't realize this place was owned by the same people as the Fat Black Pussycat. We had a great party, and we loved the DJ last Friday night.
But...someone should tell the guy who keeps writing the same message over and over in different words to stop because it's obvious that he works at this place or he REALLY loves it and wants others to think he is actually multiple people. The whole message, followed by a space, and then a final punctuating remark, i.e., "fastastic, just fantastic" or "the ladies are hot, real hot" is very poetic...
I had my party on December 10th 2004 (I was the girl on top of the tables) and it was a blast. I had a 100+ people show up and it was the best time I had in a long time. All my guests loved the place and said it was the best party they have ever been to. The crowd is mixed (which I love) and the DJ played great music that got everyone grooving. Definately a hot night and will highly recommend...
I go out all the time, to all different spots... lounges, restaurants, openings and clubs. What was so refreshing about this spot was that it was sexy, trendy, upscale, with barely any attitude. Music was great, no repeats of the same song throughout the nigh, you know how that is... Staff was very good. Decor trendy & comfortable and the vibe was - let's just say trendy New Yorkers with supe...
Went to Rumor, Saturday night. My friends and I got a table. Met a ton of girls. Danced and chilled.
Very cool, very cool.
Erin
I 100% recommend Rumor as a place to visit and frequent. Really, had a good time. The table host was great, and treated us as true vip clientele.
The girls were hot and the vibe was out of control.
Check it out- you will come back
So much fun... my friends all went out to Rumor over this past weekend, Saturday night. Of course since it was the holiday weekend, we were not sure how the party would be. When we got there the place was rockin, witha really cute crowd, nice vibe. We were so happy.
The night was a blast and we strongly, strongly recommend this spot to others...
A must check out.-
About time somebody took another approach to upscale dance lounges. No cover, 3 rooms, GREAT djs and no attitude at the door. Nice Job
This is by far the hottest party in the city. There are so many beautiful women, I didn't know what to do with myself. Dancing on couches all night long, insane. It is definitely one of the best crowds and best vibes in the city.
Highly recommended.
It's a nice place to chill after work with friends. The only thing I hate about the place was the mandatory coat check line which took so long. It makes you not want to go inside. What kept me from leaving was the good music that was playing which lured me downstairs. All in all, the ambiance was nice and I would go back again, but in the spring and summer months.
WOW! I have been to Rumor several times now. I went this past Saturday and was blown away. There was like 3 times the amount of girls to guys. Needless to say I had a blast. Def. going back this weekend. Guys, I suggest grabbing a table and hanging back and getting some of those beautiful models at your table. (LOL)
Music was amazing! Everyone in the room was having a blast.
Lots of fun. Great looking crowd. I dont know why people wrote those bad reviews.. I think that the place is out of control. I had a blast and recommend coming back.
Definitely Definitely fabulous
The place was empty and me and my friends (along with hot girls) still waited outside for half an hour. THen we waited another half hour for the coat check. The place was cheesy with pretentious people a plenty. We decided to leave after having a horrible time and the lady at the coat check lost my scarf. The bouncer and manger refused to give me my 3 dollar coat check fee or 10 door fee. I ...
This place is the WORST! My friends and I planned on partying there for New Years Eve this year, we bought all of our tickets in advance and got there at about 10:30PM....After waiting on line for almost an hour and a half we were told we couldnt get in because the place was too crowded- REGARDLESS OF THE FACT THAT WE HAD ALREADY PURCHASED TICKETS! We were forced to head across the street just in...
i dont' understand what everyone is complaining about. like every club and lounge in manahattan, the doors are always strict. we waited for 10 mins and go in without a problem. the doorguy was actually very friendly compared to most of the doorguys out there. my only complaint is that the dj did not play any house music. my suggestion is to get there early and make sure you bring enough girls or ...
Never Never Never go here! and particularly not if youre thinking of having a party here! i am usually very easy going and content with most places i go however, the way we were treated at this place was beyond belief! The staff is rude and incompetent!!!! especially those at the door! i have been going to the most sought after clubs and lounges in NY for years, and have never ever encountered su...
Went with a bunch of friends and was pleasantly surprised. Combination of a lounge and a club - together. Lots of fun, great music, tons of people. Great new discovery! It did take a while to get in but I am glad I waited.
My roommate celebrated her birthday at Rumor last night. Inside, the decor looked chic, the evening seemed promising. But then the bouncers kept the subsequent guest list waiting outside for no apparent reason. My friends could not go outside to smoke; otherwise, they had to pay the $30 cover charge to re-enter the bar (and some did). The alcohol tab totaled $900 even though we only ordered one ...
I and a few of my single girlfriends went there last saturday, hoping to meet some cool people. If you are single, and want to meet some attractive people, don't even bother with this place. Waiting in line (wasn't even that long anyway), and dealing with annoying door people didn't really bother me. What really bothered me is when I got in (after waiting for 30 min in line and paid $20) and s...
I don't want to be a whiney person who complains about bouncers and door people, but yesterday's experience was more than an annoyance. One of my close friends had his birthday party there, and invited over 100 people. They promised him that all his guests who are on the guest list would get in for free. Did it happen? Not exactly. Every one of us had to pay the cover (including girls) after...
This is the type of bar that you could go to every weekend and not get bored. It cateers to the crowd who likes to chill at a table with a bottle or the group that likes to dance. There is something for everyone.
Not a bad place to see a show. Sure it got crowded but I still had a seat to relax and listen to the music.
5 of us went to see a show on a friday night. Doors were to open at 7:30pm. It was raining heavily and at 7:45 they opened the doors, gave us our tickets, stamped our hands, ripped our tickets once we got downstairs. We sat down and ordered drinks only to have 10 mins later the manager come screaming at our table about us being inside and doors weren't open yet. He was on a rampage, pointing...
This is one of the few clubs in the city that I do not mind being packed into. I love the Open Mic nights that they have. I've never been in a room where everyone can sing and sing well. I have been twice and plan to go back again and again!!!
I love the open mic's and the clinc's that they offer. There is no place like it.
A good place to go with a bunch of friends for a typical village bar scene- better drinks than the other bleecker area bars. Gets a bit crowded on weekends, but what doesn't in the area? There's a loungy room to the side which is pretty nice, and the bouncer was friendly.
