We came in after meaning to for years. Food was really great (but I still like the spring rolls at most Vietnamese places a little better). The cranberry curry chicken was to die for. Get that!
Hubby-bubbo had the steak (YES STEAK! at an Asian restaurant) and loved it.
I've visited Azia many times over the past several years, and have always found it to be, well... sort of magical. But it wasn't until my last visit that I was so prompted to write it a love letter. I don't know what they're doing lately, (and I must admit that about six months to a year ago I had a not-so-great experience.) But wow! If she ever left, she certainly is back!
The food is as ...
My advice, if you are in a large group, go else where. The food is over priced and we had very bad service. Chicken Pad Thai Cost $18 and it was not even good. There was a group of 14 celebrating two birthdays and we various people buying appetizers, dinner, and drinks. Throught the dinner, our waitress was missing and it took forever for her to return with drink orders. We spent almost three hou...
I understand that when you dine with a large group of individuals it will be difficult. I understand that on a busy Sat. night, service will be slow. What I don't understand is... How you as a waiter/waitress, not know that you "MIGHT" need to seperate the bill in a big group of 10-15 people to make the transaction easier. Let me make this simple about this overpriced, foot up the ass, high cl...
I enjoy a good sake, and this place has got an amazing selection. Go during happy hour and get a ton of appetizers and a flight of sake, you will be happy you did. Their cranberry cream cheese wontons are out of this world as is all of their other food. We just order one of each on the menu in a large group and pass things around family style. I love the decor and service as well!
I went in because I was craving sushi and was in the eat street area. I thought I would try out Azia's sushi bar. When I came in, the server and rest of the staff were chatting very loudly and simply put the way the server interacted with me made me feel very awkward. I ordered hotate, unagi, maguro, ika, green tea, and miso soup. Then I got the food. First of all, the miso soup was RED and th...
September 09, 2009 - I HAD THE WORST DINING EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE AT AZIA RESTAURANT! My husband and I celebrated his B-Day at AZIA 2 nights in a row. The first night we were joined by his friends and our family, and everyone had a great time. When we went back the second night, my husband accidentally ordered raw fish for dinner, all of our appetizers, so far that night had been cooked Sushi and...
When we send sushi back because the fish is too old, we don't need a 5 minute lecture on why we're wrong. We're guests and should never be treated as such. Very rude management, never going back.
3 of my favorite things, all under 1 roof!
1. The best happy hour in town! It happens twice a day from 3pm-6pm & from 10pm-2am. Although I'm usually at work during the earlier, I make it as often as I can to the late night!
2. My favorite patio for people watching! Sure, Uptown has some great corners and spots - but the patio at Azia makes for an uncomparable experience! Great food, and un...
First, this is a go-to place for me...and a short walk from home. But a visit last week had me scratching my head: why do I ALWAYS need to ask for the happy hour menu during happy hour, and what is that god-awful reek near the bathrooms? The managers are always pros, but this bit about the HH menu irks me: do you want people to drop $$ when they can or not? Please reconsider your water elem...
I wish I wanted to eat there, but I don't, and I won't.
What is served and the manner in which it is served are unbelievable.
Check it out. There's a good chance you'll be just as unlucky and disappointed as I have been.
Bon appetit
Seriously I just ordered a soda water. You know? Water with bubbles??? They charged me four dollars for it. At least give me a bottle of perrier or something. Don't pull the gun from the tap and give me a glass of water and charge me four dollars. Outrageous. Never again
I love the atmosphere, food, service, selection (3 menus to choose from). I always get the BEST wontons in town, they are cranberry and semi-spicy. SO good. I then get a spicy tuna or caterpiller roll, then I get the steak/potatoes and then I go for one of the best desserts in town. Seriously the banana rolls and especially the almond joy are NOT to be missed. Go with a friend and share everythin...
this is def a spot to go to and check out if your willing to spend an little extra money. its a little pricey yes, but you dont feel like you wasted money like you do at some other high end restaurants. the atmosphere is nice and relaxed. the servers are very nice and make sure your satisfied. dessert- ooh yess, white and milk chocolate dipped strawberries are to die for! never 1 complaint about ...
i had an old boyfriend who use to take me here all the time! i was new to the city, but i fell in love with this place. incredible food and service, and i always had a great time. its a little pricey but its all worth it! The atmosphere is so warm and romantic when your on a date, your close to so many things you could go grab drinks someone else if you wanted to, or just stay at azia. either way...
Azia served me raw chicken wings. When I complained ,the manager had a total attitude problem and I had to argue with her to take them off my bill. The wings were bloody and uncooked on the inside. I will NEVER eat there again. DON'T EAT AT AZIA!
I recently went to Azia on Sept 17th for my birthday. The service was impeccable with our waitress Trista looking after our every need. It caught me off guard when after ordering she recommended possibly a different meal that had more flavor to it even though the cost of the new dish was much lower. It's not every day that a waitress would risk a possible higher tip for the satisfaction of the...
My family and friends celebrated two birthdays on Saturday, Sept 6 at Azia. The service was great and the food was amazing. Our waitress was very attentive. On that day, as we celebrated life we also received a phone call during our dinner that our beloved grandmother passed away. I found the closest staff member and informed her that we needed to leave right away. Within a few minutes, our f...
Realized I am in trouble for not planning our anniversary!! So thought I'd make this somewhat special and get out of our suburban setting. Remembered Thom Pham's restaurant from Star Tribune feature a while ago. So called in the reservation late evening. After a 25 minute drive out of the nw suburbs..we entered into a wonderful experience....the Azia is a romantic setting that creates the right ...
I have eaten at a few now, It appears that anything on the well planned menu is going to be phenomenal. Ask the courteous bar staff for a wasabi bloody mary or one to complement the fantastic food. The atmosphere is soothing and the fountains create a calming sense around you. I would definately recommend this as a beautiful
I've been going to Azia for three years now. It seems like Azia is the hottest spot in town. Azia always has some new concept that hasn't been done yet. The last time I visited Sushi Chef Kenji was in the sushi bar cutting a whole blue-fin tuna in front of the sushi bar customers. The tuna looked like it had just been caught that day, I've never seen such a bright red color in a fish. Yes, when K...
Every Asian person I know who had been to Azia told me it was overpriced and not worth it, but every non-Asian person raved about it. What do I do?, I asked myself. In the end I decided I'd give the restaurant a shot, since it was my baby sister's birthday we were celebrating. We went on a Friday night (made reservations 2 days in advance). We were seated at the "boat table"-which we thought was ...
For $20-$30 a plate, Azia is quite overrated. There are many places in the city that have better food, service, and attention to detail.
It is clear that the owners need to charge excessively in order to pay for their lease/mortgage on the property.
If you're looking to be seen and to people watch, Azia is a good place. If you want quality food at reasonable prices, you can find it at any n...
Azia Restaurant and Caterpillar Lounge was one of the best dining experiences I have ever had. From the moment my car was valet parked, to the very friendly host, to the bar staff, wait staff, and environment; this place has got it going on. The service there was impeccable; our waitress knew complementary dishes on the menu and was extremely attentive to the needs of our party. The food was p...
I made reservation two weeks in advance. They require a credit card and will charge if no one shows up. I was fine with that but when we got there for our 9pm reservation, we did not get seated until after 9:30. They also seated us at the wrong table and had to move us. We originally requested to be seated on the Sushi side and we were seated by the bathroom instead. The sushi was awful and the c...
This restaurant is stellar. Our service was impeccable, and our food was sensational. I would recommend this restaurant for a variety of occassions, and it's sure to please. Make sure to order the cranberry cream cheese wantons as an appetizer.
I visited Azia for my second time last Saturday. My first visit there was very enjoyable. We went during the middle of the week, so the restaurant was much quieter and the service was great. On our second visit, we walked in to find the manager in a loud argument with a family over their reservations. We were immediately turned off by the manager's rude behavior. We were seated promptly at a tabl...
I normally don't feel compelled to write a review but was moved to do so after visiting Azia for the first time. Form the opening greeting from Deena (I think I'm in love) to the monkfish I'm going to say that this is the best spot in Minneapolis. I truly felt like the only person in there (did I mention the name Deena?) with the over the top service, only to be outdone by the food itself.

If youre looking for great food and great service then I highly recomment Azia.
The staff at Azia was very friendly and was attentive to detail in a very busy setting.
Glad to see that in a time when restaurants are failing Azia can hold on its own.
Our server Michael was funny and knowledgable with the wine and food and was
able to make our evening well worth the trip. Hats off to you Azia ...
The nutty chicken and the cranberry cream cheese puffs are to die for! The steak is also wonderful! I've been here several times and the service has always been very attentive and they always know so much about the menu.
There are no bad things to be said about Azia. Food, service and atmosphere were all top-notch. This is a place I will return to with out-of-town guests and local friends alike.
I went to Azia for the first time last week with 3 girlfriends and absolutely loved it! The service was prompt and friendly. The atmosphere was warm and elegant, but it did get a bit noisy when the tables filled up. I was impressed by the mojitos, and was floored by the fantastic food. I had the Salmon and it was cooked perfectly. We shared a plate of the calamari which was the best I've ever had...
I've never written a review before, but after going to azia for years i felt i needed to say something. Azia Used to be an beautiful cool restaurant. The decor was great, food was good, and everyone knew what they were doing, from the hostess at the door, the waiters, to the owner walking around, genuinely caring that people were having a good time. Now its just kinda trashy. I keep on going back...
I have heard so many wonderful things about this place but when I finally made it over there my high expectations were let down. I went on a Sunday evening for dinner with a friend and dined in the main dining room. Service was less than fantastic--our server repeatedly said "I'll be right back" almost everytime she dropped by, even when it was obvious we just needed to order another drink. Th...
I went to Azia on a Saturday night, the atmosphere was wonderful and intimate (great for a date). The food was absolutely delicious- there are more than enough options for even the pickiest eaters to find something that they will like (definitely would recommend the cranberry puffs!!). The best part of our experience was definitely the SERVICE- I would have to say that was the best service I ha...
My teenage son & I ate there on a Saturday, early evening, and it was made fun by the general manager of Tom Phams organization and our waiter. Both really went out of their way to make the meal interesting for my son and "foodie" in training. Food was amazing, but not cheap.
My buddy Kurt and I would always go here at night. The food is always good. The Sushi is the best I have ever had in MN and the oyster wings are the best I have ever had period. The women here are always super hot and the lounge is fun. This is one of the best date spots MN has to offer bring a girl for the sushi and drinks and she will be impressed. Well worth the money. The owner rocks as well ...
Great place to start the evening, but it does get crowded by 11:30 or so (at least on weekends)! Trendy place where it's fun to get dressed up to go to, see, and bee seen. With a fabulous drink menu, if you can't find it here I don't think it exists. Very friendly (not to mention easy on the eyes) staff - it's part of the regular rotation now!
I brought my in-laws here from Boston and they absolutely loved it! I have been a frequent guest of Azia many times and I will continue to go back. The staff and management is so warm and friendly the minute you walk in the door. The food is amazing, and so are the drinks! Great experience every time. Thank you Azia!
Had a friend who went there on his anniversary. It was pretty busy so he asked how long he'd have to wait and was told 45 minutes. He decided to wait. A hour and 20 minutes later he's still waiting and no one even bothers to update them. After asking what's up and when he would get a table he's told .... to make a reservation next time. No apologies, no service. MAKE A RESERVATION. COME ON!!!

I've lived in Minneapolis for 5 years now and I have never been to Azia, even after many praises by friends and family members. I came here for my birthday party last night and had an amazing time! They customized a menu, just for my party and the staff was so amazing to me and my guests! Even though the atmosphere is very, very nice and beautiful, the prices are affordable and you definitely ...
Very gratifying, extremely professional & courteous staff, was not stiff or stuffy in anyway, had a very warm feel, all three of us thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and we are P I C K Y! Get the beef satay and lobster w/black bean sauce!! A great place if you want to give yourself and guests a treat.
I wish I would have listened to the countless people who told me NOT to go to Azia. In fact, I'd had terrible service experiences there myself, but thought the overpriced food was occasionally worth the rude & unavailable servers.
My dinner last night was the proverbial straw that broke the camel's back. First, we were seated in the Anemoni side of the restaurant even though we had specifically...
My colleagues suggested this place before my business partner and I came to Minneapolis on a work trip from Los Angeles. We were very impressed and had a very pleasant experience. After a very filling dinner we migrated over to the caterpillar room which is a swanky lounge within the restaurant. The atmosphere was very fun, upbeat, but not obnoxiuos. We enjoyed some 25 year old Macallan and w...
I went to Azia over Labor Day weekend while visiting Minneapolis and finally had the pleasure to finally try it. PERFECT! Our server was so attentive to our party and his knowledge on the menu was increible. It was a busy night but the owner personally came over to our table and talked to us and asked how our food was (which u never see anymore), along with other tables in the restaurant. It ...
A big disappointment. The lack of service ruined the night for my husband and me. We saw our waiter a total of 4 times during the entire meal. The only enjoyable part of the evening was the sushi, however the 40 minute wait with no sign of our waiter between placing our order and receiving our food was a big detractor. The service only went down from there. We were hoping order an extra roll...
Visited Azia over the weekend, and had a great time. We sat on their patio, enjoyed a mixture of appetizers, had a few great cocktails although I can't recall the names of them. Nice place and staff, thanks Azia!
My girlfriends took me to Azia for my bachelorette party a couple of days ago. This was my first time there and I fell in love! The atmosphere is so warming, and our server Michael was incredible! His knowledge of the menu was fabulous (i'm notorious for asking a million questions before I finally decide what to order!). We ordered the Crab Rangoon, Shrimp Tempura Rolls, and Beef Satay as sta...
I've been a regular at Azia for the past 3 years and will continue to be a loyal customer. The service staff is always so warm and have great personalities. The food is great! I have tried everything but I would highly recommend the kannon steak and potatoes, walleye, lobster in black bean sauce. For appetizers try the potstickers, tar tar and malaysian skewers. I like their late night happy...
HORRIBLE FOOD, SERVICE & PRICES!!!! RATED -1!! I had a party of ten and let me say none of us were happy. First, the lighting was terrible. I needed to use my cell phone light in order to read the menu. Two, we waited nearly an hour for our drinks and two hours for our food. On top of that they don't know how to make their drinks or create food dishes. The classic mixed drinks were straight alco...
I have had sushi before, but really only the American rolls (Philadelphia and California) and was a bit leary of trying authentic sushi...but I'm so glad I did! The fish is unbelievably fresh and flavorful and most portions are so large I always leave full! We also had the edamame and Azia has left me aching for more!
Azia's always been a favorite of me & my fiance's. When its warmer out, they open the large windows in Anenome and have tables set up alongside-- its really romantic for a late night dinner. Although I'm not to fond of their sushi rolls, I do however, love the hamachi kama. My fiance's favorite is the kannon steak and potatoes. Also, dress nicely when dining here or you may feel uncomfortable...
We had a group of six of us and the service was excellent and the food was outstanding. We had the Herb Spring rolls as an appetizer and they were so light and delicious. I had the Mongolian Steak and my husband had the Pad Thai Steak, both were excellent. We will definitely be going there again.
I love Azia! I've probably been there 15 times and had a great experience every time. My favorite thing about this restaurant is that it offers something different than most restaurants in the Twin Cities. Although I have so many favorites on their large menu, I always try something new every time I visit. Try their fabulous desserts-yummy! For appetizers my favorite is the crab rangoon, potst...
Went there the other evening with some girlfriends. Was impressed by the beautiful ambiance and the warm staff that greeted us. However, got sticker shock from the first moment we arrived. Paying $5 for valet service when they didn't even move my car. Had planned to order a glass of wine but found the house wines to be incredibly overpriced. Ended up ordering a $12 martini that tasted like a shot...
Azia has been my favorite restaurant for the past year. Each time I visit, my experience gets better and better. I attended a birthday party this past weekend and had a phenomenal lobster sashimi dish specialized by the sushi chef. I highly recommend this! Try the crab rangoon as well, this is a great appetizer-although all of them are very tasty! Thank goodness summer is right around the co...
DEFINITELY NOT RECOMMENDED. I've dined here a few times in the past before this incident and have yet to be pleased or to be treated with the respect that i am PAYING for. Recently my friend and I decided to get a drink on a Friday afternoon 3/16/07. We decided to sit at the bar, since we weren't planning on ordering food. My friend, who was white and female asked the waitstaff to be directed...
My mother flew in from out of town and I brought her to Azia. It was a busy Saturday night, but we were promptly seated in the Anemoni room. We had the best time! The sushi was the best that I have had in Minneapols (And i have tried a lot of restaurants). The sushi chef was very welcoming to not only myself and my guests, but to everybody who walked in. My mom is hard to impress and she co...
I had heard about Azia many times from my friends but never visited until recently. What a delight! The staff was so welcoming the second I walked into the door, and our server Mike was great! We ordered the cranberry puffs and I got the walleye for dinner which was very tasty! Afterwards we went into the caterpillar lounge--beautiful!!! Overall I was very impressed with the service, food, a...
Azia was "The Place" we would take our friends for a guaranteed great night out - NOT ANY MORE!
The food is still good, but the last two times there, the service and attitude of the management has been terrible. You know the kind, because they are so popular, you really don't matter. We went there again thinking that the other time was just one of those bad nights - the same attitude. The f...
My boyfriend and I frequent the Anemone sushi bar located inside of Azia. We've found that the prices aren't bad (especially if you order from the Chef's Select portion of the menu) and the sushi itself is always perfectly fresh and delicious. You must try the chef's select 3 maki rolls for $13.95! The price really can't be beat and I've never, ever been disappointed with the selection. Try it ou...
Long time reader, first time reviewer.
I've been frequenting Azia & The Caterpillar Lounge for 3 years. I can honestly say that when I'm in the mood for a great meal - there's just about no other restaurant worth the gamble. I highly reccomend the happy hour menu for those on a budget - my friends and I usually gorge ourselves on the chicken wings and cranberry puffs. If a sit down dinner is ...
Big disappointment! I went for happy hour, and sat at a table in the bar area. It was NOT busy and there were a number of servers just standing there, with several walking past me - not acknowledging my presence. After ten minutes, I had to walk up to the bartender to ask for service. The server who finally showed up was rude and annoyed that we had to ask for service. The potstickers were soggy ...
This restaurant is great, the atmosphere, the food, the service. Highly recommended, great happy hour.
Wow, I am amazed that there is only one review on CitySearch, and a negative one at that! We return again and again to AZIA for several reasons: fabulous ambiance; superior staff and management; yummy drinks; and tasty food, not to mention the ability to order sushi till midnight. Yes, it can be expensive, especially the drinks: but they have a pretty good happy hour deal late at night on sel...
really love the atmosphere and food, great first date place and love the decor, prices are great and good wine list
One of the best experiences I've had, this is truly a place to try. The food was incredible and very inventive. The atmosphere is calm and fun at the same time. There were numerous people tending to our table, including the owner who oversees the staff and chats with patrons as they dine. While I only peeked into the lounge/bar, it looked like a great place to grab a drink and appetizers.
Had pretty good food there until once I ordered a lobster tail dish. It came with the center RAW!
I told them that I can appreciate a good piece of tuna or salmon done rare, but shellfish is not
served this way. They offered to cook it more, but I declined. I had already chewed it - that's
how you find out it's raw! They didn't offer a new piece of lobster. Guess they didn't like the idea

I was hesitant to try this restaurant - I admit that I am not an adventurous eater whatsoever. My date chose the restaurant and I was a little wary of such eclectic food combinations as read on the website. But, "quelle surprise"! I ordered the dish that seemed the "tamest" (chicken teriyaki I think) and I LOVED it. I tried a few bites of my date's entree and enjoyed that as well. The waitress se...
We've been there 2x and are pleasantly surprised every time!
The ambience is great, several different rooms for different moods. The Azia Roll is killer! The martinis are delicious, esp the ones with fruit puree. We're adventurous with Asian food, but not with sushi, and find something new and delicious at each visit. The unagi is the freshest I've ever had. They even substituted blue crab wh...
I've dined at AZIA about 5 times since it opened. With all the restaurants to try in the Twin Cities you could never return to one restaurant and enjoy a multitude of pleasant experiences. But for a restaruant to call you back, and at the suggestion of its name cause you an instant smile and "yeah, let's go there" response, it takes something special. AZIA has that. Good food, certainly, grea...
LOVE IT- the atmosphere is great. The dress-code claims to be casual- but the dinner crowd is always dressed very nice. The service is always good and the food is even better. Great for a special occasion.
I love the lettuce wraps, cranberry puffs, and the fresh spring rolls. Their drinks are creative and yummy!!! Great late night specials and happy hour!
We went 7/12 and it was 90F outside. We sat inside because it was hot. After we ordered appetizer (cranberry puff, toro sashimi, and scallops all GREAT!!,) we noticed it was getting warmer. We asked the server and were told that the owner likes an open atmosphere. We noted all of the doors were opened, but the air was on in the bar area and that was cooler. By the end of dinner we had moths...
I fell in love with my first glass of Nigori Sake last summer. When my veggie Pad Thai came I was pleasantly surprised, spice and flavor was balanced. I have been back 3 or 4 times since last August. I just went last night with a large group of co-workers and it was the first time I had a server seem a bit short, we were ordering drinks and talking and it seemed like we needed to hurry it up, but...
This place is FAR better than some places in uptown with gold, sparkly signs! Love the atmosphere. Service is very friendly but somewhat slow/spotty sometimes. Love the cranberry puffs!! Sushi is good, food is good, sake is good. Pretty expensive, though.
The food and sushi was awesome, and came in great portions, BUT the service needs improvement. The servers are not snotty, but you do actually get to see the owner work. It took us 30 minutes to be seated even though we made reservations 2 weeks ahead of time and have confirmed it twice before the actual date. They hosts are very rude and acts like they don't see us waiting. The drinks are way ov...
We went to Azia hoping for a new and fun experience. We left feeling, well, disappointed. The food was average-Pad thai was ok, beef was tender and probably the best bet...and finally the appetizers were the only worthwile items on the menu to enjoy. Lots of sake if you like it. Overall, it was just not my thing-but I know that it works for other folks.
We tried to use a gift certificate, and ended up with one of the worst nights in recent memory. Which manager thought it would be a good idea to hire someone with zero personality as a server? Who thought it would be appetizing to cover a slightly fishy-smelling piece of walleye with a tasteless neon-green sauce? And who lets their valet company charge in advance "to guarantee we get paid"? Azia,...
I had a birthday party at AZIA (in the most beautiful room in the back side of the main dining room). The food was unbelievable, and the staff was the most professional I have seen yet in the twin cities. I just wanted to say thank you an I love U AZIA!!!
I don't usually like to write these kind of reviews, because I'm a food snob, and like to keep my little havens a secret, lest they get too overrun with people to let me get in anytime I want, but I recently heard something that disturbed me a bit at another eat street joint. I won't say which one, but I overheard one of the managers of this place (we'll call it restaurant x) say that they had w...
I have no idea how they came up with their drink price in that location with that quality - this one kind of sake I tasted was $25 a bottle, when you can find the exact same kind of sake at other Japanese restaurant in town at $15. Sushi is far from being authentic, and was more like a shopping-mall kind. I have never been impressed with either Azia or Anemone.
Holiday gathering with friends in from Seattle.
Had some a wonderful dining experience. The food was excellent!
5 of us and not ONE complaint heard about anything.
A little pricy for some of us, but well worth it.
The cranberry/cheese wontons were Fab!
Will be back again.......
I went here with a group of my girlfriends for a reunion. We were seated in the back room, a sexy, dark spot that looks like a chic Hong Kong dining spot. The other dining room was dark wood and large windows with a classiness that would please anyone who is on a business lunch or dinner (I brought it up to my boss the next day!). Our server was well informed about drinks, wine and food and gave ...
I've been a dedicated customer to azia for the past two years. With every visit I am greeted with a warm welcome from one of the friendly staff members imediatedly at the front door. I've been fortunate enough to try just about everything on the menu, especially the latenight happy hour. Which I highly recommend!! No matter what you'r tastes are, your sure to find something that you like. With an...
I had such a delightful time. It's rare to find all of the pieces fit so well.
I recently dined at Azia with several friends. The food surpassed my expectations and was excellent. The service, however, may be the worst I've ever had. The waiter was arrogant to the point of being rude. When we asked questions about menu items he stuck his nose in the air and described them as "passable", "not recommended", "atrocious", etc. He managed to criticize all but his personal f...
I was impressed with Bon Appetit's rating of Azia and chose it to celebrate my wife's birthday and entertain 2 couples. The waiter's arrogance was laughable at fist, but after several snips directed to individuals in the group, was downright unacceptable. The entrees arrived in bits and pieces to the table, and took 5 minutes from the time of the first entree to the arrival of the last. After ...
I found Azia on citysearch, and what a find it was! My boyfriend and I arrived arouind 9:30pm on a Friday night, to be greeted with warm smiles, and no wait. We were seated immediately in a romatic booth, the only light being the small candle on our table. He had the special, Alaskan Salmon with Wasabi Mashed Potatoes, and I had the Coconut Curry Chicken, both fantastic. Service was excellent, wi...
Unfortunately I have to admit that my experience at Azia was wonderful. I had always avoided the place because it seems grossly out of place to me. There are hundreds of little restaurants owned by poor imigrant families up and down Nicollet where you can get great soups and sandwiches for great prices and Azia stepping in seemed unfair. My brother insisted when my parents came to town that we...
There is something about this Asian... excuse me Azian Night Spot that leaves a fire in the heart, and I'm not talking about the Jalepeno/Basil Sauce. It's probably the only place in Minne that doesn't seem contrived or desperately contriving. Where else can you get a five star meal, a top-notch server and watch a DJ master beat at 2:00 AM on the prairie? I think no wheres.
Yeah! Someone got the whole thing right! Love you Azia!
The restaurant, and its attendant bar, are extremely pleasant. Food is uniformly above average (I do understand some of the complaints about portions, but the quality is high and priced in accordance). The adjoining Caterpillar Lounge is a great room, with a clean decor and great bartenders. I will say that the bars could drop their prices by 10 percent across the board and make it up in volume. ...
Finally it seems, somebody in the Twin Cities figured out that we don't have to keep proving to our visitors that "we're cool, we're hip" and thereby asserting that we're actually just some spread-out fragmented Milwaukee with nothing more original to claim than the opening scene of Mary Tyler Moore (by the way, that wasn't our concept either). Azia, you've proven yourself as the only place in th...
This is one of the few places in Mpls that I have heard multiple complaints about. The common theme being the fact that this place is ridiculously overpriced. I was there a month ago with a friend. She was "up-sold" a glass of red wine. When it showed up, the "pour" couldn't have filled the lower quarter of the wine glass. It was equivalent to a wine-tasting. Azia is no better with their portio...
A great place to eat. They have an incredible menu. And a cool drink menu full of beer, wine cocktails and sake! Great service and good portions. I would recomend it!!!!!
my boyfriend and i stumbled upon this place after a worrysome walk down "eat street". we weren't sure we'd find anything! azia turned out to be a gem. i am a vegetarian and was thrilled by the menu, you can add mock dock to nearly all of their entrees. i had the cranberry mock duck, he had the sea bass. both were amazing. their wine list is extremely thorough and the desserts great as well....
I went to Azia with some friends for lunch the other day and I wanted to let everyone know how incredible everything was. They played classic Irving Berlin and Stan Getz for the music selection which sets the tone for the whole restaurant. We felt that we were in an upscale joint in Southeast Asia. The lunch menu allows you to try some of their famous entrees at a cheaper price and smaller port...
After reading about Azia in Bon Apetit and seeing them on the news I though I should go in with my husband and check it out. We had reservations, which I highly recommend, for a Thursday night and I was amazed and impressed that we have this caliber of a restaurant in Minnesota. Not only was the server knowledgable and polite, they were able to help us order and recommended a fantastic bottle o...
the food was great, my husband surprised me with a party of 12. the service made both me and my husband very upset. attitude and delays were par for the course. good food and great atmosphere, shame that the service brings it down.
I had heard a lot of good things about this place, but was disappointed. It has a way nicer atmosphere than any other place in the vicinity. However, the food was just okay and you didn't get much for what you pay for. If you 're looking to impress with a cool decor, then this place is for you. If you want authentic cuisine, try some where else.
I have to say that there is something great about going into a restaurant at midnight and not getting attitude from the servers about wanting to dine so late. My family and I went in late to grab some food and they were so friendly and attentive, even though it was nearing closing time. Very cool.
I recently visited this place for the first time with my friends. I was disappointed with the service that we received. We waited for over an hour for our food to arrive, and when it finally did arrive it was very disappointing. I've had much better food at the smaller Asian resturants down the street and for a much better price!!
Thank GOD someone finally got it right! Azia rocks across the board! From the time you walk in the door to a happy smiling hostess from the time you leave and feel the need to give your sever every last dime for a tip because he or she treated you like FAMILY! No need to worry about the food here either because everything is amazing right down to their orgasmic chocolate cheese cake desert! M...
Talk about getting the best of all worlds...I took a group out to AZIA for drinks and appetizers, and the praise was unanimous. The tuna tartar was by far the favorite, served diced and uncooked, and mixed with spices and herbs - chiefly wasabi. The sushi-ahi tuna was then wrapped in seaweed, and surrounded by baked crackers. In the spice department, it is served as a "one star" meal, but you ...
I was visiting the Twin Cities last week and was recommended by some locals to check this restaurant out. I was amazed to find that a restaurant of this caliber, with the excellent wine list and the incredible food, was tucked just outside downtown in this eclectic neighborhood. The staff was friendly and knowledgable and were able to help me find exactly what I wanted. The owner came over and...
During the past year Azia has quickly become my favorite bar and restaurant destination in the Twin Cities. I've brought large groups of friends (20+), business clients from around the world and dates to Azia. I have never made a reservation and have never been disappointed. Everyone has always been very accomodating. The service and food have always been excellent.
Of special note
Friendly Ba...
Azia's another resteraunt where its looks have gone to its head. You walk in and are greeted by a pretty face surrounded by pretty decor. The place looks amazing.....but...I feel that on weekends they're more concerned with packing the people in than on giving good service. And i don't blame the waiters. With the amount of people i saw here it'd be hard to give that. For the prices i don't want t...
The food was definitely great! However, in the few times I have visited the place, going in a large group (more than 5 people) was a huge mistake. Service was poor- the person waiting our table continously disappeared. The next time I went, the service was better, and the food was definitely worth going back for.
My boyfriend took me to Azia for Valentine's day because I love thai food. The restaurant is beautiful and has a nice ambiance. I was not too impressed with our service, it was not really bad but not great either. We ordered the cranberry cream cheese puffs and those were WONDERFUL. I didn't see many entrees that piqued my interest (i'm a vegetarian, a picky one who doesn't like a lot of vege...
We found Azia. Find Azia. It reminds me of some of our restaurants in Europe. The food is what it is - very good but sort of confined by arctic access to full freshness. The drinks and the atmosphere make most Twin Cities restaurants seem like corporate cutouts or sad amateurs. Even the music seems fully thought out.
This place was really fun. A total asset to the South Mpls hood. The mango mojito is worth the trip alone!
I loved Azia from the moment I wlked in. The menu is amazing, so many things I have never seen befoe - Walleye in jalapeno herb sauce, Cranberry Curry, and Jack Fruit Chicken...(What in the world is jackfruit. Anyways, i wen on a date and we had the cranberry puffs, Salmon in Mango Basil and a sticky rice with coconut ice cream. Woohoo, it was the food was SOOOO GOOD! I am not usually one for exp...
I went to Azia when they first opened and had an ok experience and did not pay much attention to going back, however i often overhear people talking about how much they enjoy going there. my boyfriend and i decided to give it another try becasue every where in uptown was closed and i can not tell you how much that place has improved. we took the city pages suggestion and ordered the cream chees...
I'll start by saying this. The place is fun, the food is unique and spicy(even the puffs), which by the way dance in your mouth with a sweet spicy explosion that makes your mouth scream in delight. You will love the decor, with it's giant pillars, a shining metallic ceiling, and beautiful pieces of art clevery set around the dining room. This is what it would feel like to dine in an 'Azian' art g...
The person I was dining with received a tofu dish that was obviously overcooked. When this was brought to our waitress's attention she instantly developed a hostile attitude. We asked to see the manager, but ended up waiting. The manager tried to resolve the issue and apologized for the waitress's attitude, but the long wait and the "attitude" had already done its damage. Later, I learned a frien...
I really only had drinks and not the food, but it's a nice place with the coolest restrooms in town. Period. The Asian bartender girl was great, and this place has the best real Margaritas in Mpls. I say this, because they use that special Margarita salt that melts in your mouth, and that's important to me. While people may complain about the drink prices, no booze is cheap in Mpls. restauran...
We stumbled across Azia by accident and have been back twice now. This is a great spot for drinks. Fabulous (and very strong!) martinis and nice atmosphere. Make sure to check out restrooms. I agree that many of the meat dishes are covered in a overly sweet sauce, but I enjoy it. My sister swears by the pad thai. Our service has always been prompt and the staff very friendly.
If you live in a rented studio in a 100 hundred year old brownstone, then Azia's is not for you. This restaurant is more than about just cuisine. It is classy, hip, and very attractive. So what if the martinis are $10? If you cannot afford the price then go to PHO 79. If there is no parking, take a cab or just walk a few blocks.
Azia's reflects the zest in life.
and have skipped coming here, but I guess you have to at least try it once, right? In this particular instance I'd say no. I ordered the Azian salmon, and as the editorial review pointed out, it was too too sweet - what a waste of good salmon. I don't think I'll be coming back here again because there are better restaurants to dine at on Eat Street like Rainbow and in nearby Uptown like Kinhdo...
We had an excellent experience here. Very romantic, GREAT food, GREAT drinks, EXCELLENT wine list, and a wonderful and attentive staff. We have found a GEM. Great for late night or parties. I strongly recommend trying this place out, I don't think you'll be disappointed.
I appreciate Azia's lovely decor, comfy sidewalk seating, and cute bar. I also appreciate the helpful host and the (mostly) attentive waitstaff. What I don't appreciate is paying $10 for a martini or $22 for a plate of seabass that would be better at a suburban chain restaurant. I'm glad we have another stylish, classy joint on Eat Street, and I think Azia will make it. I just wish I wanted to ea...
This place is a gem. The food is flavorful and authentic. Every dish and appetizer I have tried has been great. Fun atmosphere and a great staff. Perfect for a romantic dinner or a night out on the town with friends.
This is truly an interesting spot - Good interesting. It's wild seeing the vast difference in reviews here. I think a lot of people are upset about the gentrification of the neighborhood, which I can understand. But the truth is... the place is a gem. The food is not five star, but it's certainly the best Asian in Minneapolis.
The foods are unbelievably bad... no such thing as creativity at all. I had a vietnamese curry, which I did not know why they named it so at all. It was just bad. Bad bad bad. I will never come back to the place again.
At the outset, Azia looks impressive. The interior decor looks fabulous. They've done a marvelous job renovating what use to be a death spot for restaurants. Consider the many predecessors that folded before Azia: Trieu Chau, Dragon Phoenix, and a couple others that already have escaped my mind, but you get the point. This is a terrible spot for a restaurant. The food is okay, but it is way ...
I agree also with Mr. Eat's comments. I tried this place a couple of times and there won't be a 3rd time. For the first visit the food was unedible, so I thought it must have been an off day, so I gave the restaurant a 2nd chance and found out that I should have stopped at the 1st visit. The service was good along with the environment but you can get that anywhere. For a restaurant you want g...
For those of you who hang at the Lake/Hennepin corner for Asian fusion, this is better! Better food, better portions and no attitude. In fact, you may feel pampered. A beautiful space filled genuine people, not overrun by suburbanites...yet!
This new restaurant is a "Must Try" for Minneapolis. The decor was charming and romantic. The service was prefect and the food was both unique and perfectly done. The owner seemed omni-present but far from annoying -- in fact, quite the opposite. He was charming and helpful. This is my new "hot spot."
I brought a large group of people to Azia for a birthday dinner, and the restaurant was more than accomodating. Our waiter was wonderful & patient, the manager was very friendly, and the cook staff was great! We had a table full of people with diet restrictions and the waiter & kitchen came through for us quite well. Extremely vegetarian & vegan friendly.
It's a little pricier than some asian re...
The food was absolutely wonderful! The dishes were huge, more than enough for one person and the prices are resonable. I highly recommend this restuarant.
Food are bad. Over price. Azia is located on an authentic "Eat Street". It's foods are not authentic. It copied Big Bowl's and P.F. Chang with 1/2 the taste, double the price. I would never eat at Azia again. I could go down 1/2 a block and have a good bowl of soup at Quang's for 1/2 the price. I also have to pay $5.00 for valet parking, I don't have to pay anything for valet parking at Ra...
You definitely can't go wrong with this place! The service was amazing--the entire staff came around to make sure that our experience was the best it could be. Any dish you order can be made to your liking. Room in the back is perfect for large groups!
I crave the food of Azia.....their soups, their potstickers- Chef Toms choice of cranberries, curry, and heat.....ABsolutely fantastic.....I know I will go back every week...impressive Tea List...and fantastic coffee!! Try a Ginger Martini!!!!
I have eaten at Azia 4 times now and each time and amazed as I try something new. It appears that anything on the well planned menu is going to be phenomenal. Ask the courteous bar staff for a wasabi bloody mary or one of the top shelf selections to complement the fantastic food. The atmosphere is soothing and the fountains create a calming sense around you. I would definately recommend this ...
