I don't know what these people are talking about..this place is excellent! It's the most "happening" bar I've been to since I moved to Pittsburgh. I had the Red Dragon Maki and the triple combination, and both were delicious. The service was great, too. I asked for more and more of their pink sauce and the manager brought it over himself. Other people obviously love Nakama because it was ful...
A year or so ago - my friend and I ate here. Our waiter was very intoxicated. Totally screwed up the check... Manager did not offer any sort of "compensation" or discount to offset the bad exerperience. I'd recommend that the management here take some lessons in customer service.
My fiance' and I went there to celebrate my birthday the other night, when my fiance' was having worse than suspected allergic reactions to the food being prepared infront of him, and when we stated that we have to leave immediately because he was getting tightness in his chest, the manager came over and called me an idiot for bringing him there, called me a liar for not having him speak up about...
Dined at Nakama this past Saturday. I have always enjoyed hibatchi dining and then I went to Nakama and realized what I had been missing. Wow! What a fantastic time. The atmosphere is artistic, the service is great, the chefs are highly skilled and food is delectable. I went with a friend and a bunch of people I had not met before. It was a great setting to talk and get to know each other. Na...
If you want to go somewhere so crowded you can't move and so loud you can't talk go to Nakama! The food, and service here is below average. This is simply a trendy place to "be seen" at. Little toyko bistro down the street has much better food, the service is excellent and you can actually enjoy your meal there!
I went to Nakama for lunch because I keep hearing that everything was so good. In short, shoddy service and horrible food is all I can say. But that's not fair - you the reader should know how bad it was in detail. Too bad I didn't take photographs!!!
First the tea came, the tea pot was missing it cast iron lid so the waitress thought to put a tepan sauce dish on top!!! WTF? Maybe she was jus...

I love the food here and is a cool place to be. Good service and usually has hot people in the evening.
Not for me. Don't buy the hype. It's overpriced, it's dirty, and they definintely do give coupons for good reviews; I've seen it.
Server stole two credit cards, didn't even feel bad. Manager did nothing and still charged the meals on the cards even though there were no signatures! Super disappointing for a place that's supposed to be award-winning. Go at your own risk, but I'd rather have sushi or hibachi somewhere else.
Last Thursday night while eating at Nakama, I gave the server my credit card to close out my bill. After waiting for over 20 minutes I asked to please have my bill/credit card back. Approximatly another 20 minutes passed and the server came back to inform me that he did not know where my credit card was. My friend and I were shocked and asked to speak to the manager who said they would hopefully ...
Nakama is one of the best restaurants in the city...the food is wonderful, the atmosphere is great as is the service....i eat there at least once a week and am never disppointed.
Sorry this is going to be a bit long winded. I was visiting family from out of town and had never been here. I pulled up the dinner menu online and looked at the great selection. I then called to make a reservation and they said that only the Hibachi tables could be reserved. When I looked back at the menu the dinner items I was looking at weren't designated at Hibachi so I didn't think I nee...
While Nakama is the perfect place for a few cocktails and some 'okay' sushi and steak, don't come here expecting the world's greatest meal. You will leave unsatisfied. A few things to understand before making your reservation at nakama: it is expensive, it is crowded, it is loud, and it is filled with 20 and 30-somethings. So, if you are looking for a more upscale but still young scene, Nakam...
I made reservations at Nakama on a Friday night. It was very busy and valet parking was the only way of parking. We waited about 20 minutes past our reservation and were seated at large table where our chef performed "tricks" for us while cooking. He wasn't very good.
One of the first things I noticed when entering the restaurant was all of the sushi chefs were black/hispanic. I thought th...
I wrote my original review (below) and was wondering who these people were that were giving Nakama 5 star ratings. So I did a little exploring and found that most of the five hundred and sixty some reviews were given in a 1 to 2 month time period in 2006... all the users who gave these reviews only gave 1 review using their citysearch accounts... and that review was for Nakama. I'm sorry, but I...
Been there 3 times....shame on me but wanted to give it a chance....nothing good to say. Overpriced, terrible service and is way over packed/booked on Fridays and Saturdays!!
SO expensive..try some of the other places for hibachi in pittsburgh and you will see they are so overpriced.
Average food and the sauces are horrible.
The only thing this place has going for it is it's atomsphere- and by that I mean the building and decor. It was noisy and over crowded as soon as we walked in. The place was completely packed and had a line around the restaurant waiting to be seated. Enough is enough- take a reservation or stop accepting walk-ins! I have never had such a bad server experience as well- unattentive and horrible! O...
I am a regular at Nakama. I must say, delicious food ( I am addicted to the sushi Maki Platter ) However, service is dreadful. My last 5 times at Nakama the waiters had no idea what came with my meal ( I had to litterally tell him what came with it! ) and almost seamed as though he was high on some reefer. They all seem very untrained and lazy. Its a shame, but I keep going back because of the de...
Nakama WAS my favorite restaurant...four years ago. Yes, it's been around that long but most of its current clientele won't be able to recall the days when the seating was ample, sushi was uniquely fresh, or when you could still find parking on the South Side.
I've lived in the South Side for 5 years, and my, have I seen a dramatic shift. Nakama is a quintessential example of what can happen...
had dinner htere last night on a reccomendation of a friends wife, really bad - sushi rice was overcooked and when we mentioned it the staff was less than concerned. Fish was obviously frozen and of poor quality to begin with. It really reminded us of sushi purchased in a grocery store or cafeteria lunch kiosk, really!
The catchy menu items do not live up to thier descriptions, sublime service w...
I have been to Nakama a few times. The food is SALTY. The bartenders ARE TERRIBLE. My bachlorette party started here. We had a reservation for one of the private rooms for 9 p. m. We showed up at 8 p.m. and were told that the room would be ready. At 10:15 the hostess finally told us that a table opened up and we could have it but we wouldn't be sitting in the private room. The waitress too...
I didn't even have to read all the reviews to figure out that there are still people out there who appreciate good food. I have eaten here months ago and honestly it a young hip place to impress the girl or your group. That's about it. Yes it is busy, but the quality of the meal....yuck. Simplified sauces nothing unique. I could of stayed at home and cooked some chicken and vegetables with soy sa...
I have mixed feelings about this place. Firstly, it is amazingly successful with throngs of people visiting every time I have gone. The place is very popular with the "In" crowd. Lots of smartly dressed professional men and women are found there. From a first look, the place is looks good. And if your just having a drink or a hibachi steak, its OK.
However, if authentic Japanese cuisine ...
The food is the best I've ever had. It's a fun nite out. I've been there many times and took my 7 year old there to celebrate a good report card. She had a blast. And no, I wasn't "paid" for this review. I just love Nakama. Those few bad reviews sound like sour grapes from jealous restaraunts.
Terrible experience. I wanted to bring my wife and son (17 and had never been to a japanese steak restaurant before). It was to be a real treat. First, my wife is allergic to fish and we ordered appetizers after ensuring there would be no fish in the dish and of course, there was. The waiter even lied and said there was no fish (after he served it) (later to be corrected by the chef). I had two ...
The first time I went my party was forced to sit with a bunch of bimbos that marinated in their cheap perfume that actually gave me a migraine. (yep, we had to share the table with other people even though it wasn?t crowded AT ALL). We asked to be moved to a new table and even wait for the chef to be done with them and then cook at our table and the manager flat out refused. We had about 10 peo...
If you like Japanese food (and who doesn?t?), then this is the place for you. The food is absolutely outstanding. And the variety is overwhelming, to say the least! They have an extensive beer menu also, very important to a beer lover such as myself. I prefer quality over quantity and this restaurant shows quality in everything they do. The soups, the salads, the entrees, oh the entrees! All of i...
The only downfall is trying to get in without reservations. Best Sushi in town! Great service, i have never had a complaint!
Food is good, but not great. It is very noisy and crowded. . . don't go if you plan on having a good conversation during your meal. They recently offered a gift certificate to anyone who would post a good review about them. I think that is shady and wouldn't want to give a restaurant like that my business!
I am a Nakama regular. As a business person who often takes clients to lunch and dinner, I can always trust Nakama to provide a fantastic atmosphere/dining combination! The staff is always friendly and the Japanese cuisine is superb. I whole-heartedly recommend Nakama to everyone!
My boyfriend and I ate at Nakama tonight. We had an amazing time. Our server was great, he was very friendly and our drinks were always full! Best of all was our chef Luke, we asked him if he knew any tricks and I'm pretty sure he did them all! Plus the food was absolutely perfect. Luke is the best chef at Nakama!!! We both had Bob's combination trio on the Monday night special. I love the salad ...
Nakama is by far the best dining experience I've ever had. The service is wonderful, the entertainment is great and the food is unbelievable! It's no wonder the place is always packed!!! Go there and see for yourself!
A friend and I love sushi - we have experienced rolls, sashimi, tataki, etc. in many restaurants from South Florida to Seattle. She found an advertisement for Nakama in the airline magazine during her trip here to visit me, so we decided to give it a try (I recently relocated here from Florida). If this is the best sushi in Pittsburgh (as some members claim), I'd sure hate to experience the wor...
I have been to Nakama on several occasions. They have the best sushi in Pittsburgh, especially for the price. Customer service is always great, and I love the decor and ambiance. It is definately unique for Pittsburgh.
The food at Nakama is wonderful! You get so much for a reasonable price and its so fresh. Plus, there's always a nice crowd there. A mix of different people but great for young, professional mingling! One of my favorite restaurants of all time!
I absolutely LOVE this place, always a great atmosphere, and the drinks and food are to die for! I love going here on Sundays!
Nakama is my favorite restaurant. I happened upon it about a year ago while visiting Pittsburgh. I have been to numerous sushi/hibachi restaurants & Nakama is by far the best! I drive 500 miles roundtrip just to visit Nakama at least 6 times a year. Join their VIP rewards. You'll get coupons for your birthday, anniversary, Mother's Day, etc. Try the Kobe Beef, it's my favorite!
Great Food - Great Food - Great Food!!! Isn't that what you are looking for in a restaurant? If you want peace and quiet... dine at home! If you want romance... light some candles and dine at home! If you want great food at a reasonable price... dine at Nakama!!! The chefs are a delight and the food is awesome. My favorite place to dine with my teenagers and their friends.
When my sister and her husband visited from Celle Liguria, Italy, Nakama was our 1st stop- straight from the airport! The food is excellent and the hibachi chefs have never disappointed. Our favorites are the steak and chicken. The ginger dressing is my wife's favorite. Never a bad meal and prices are in line with other restaurants of this type. Remember... you pay for what you get so get wh...
AAAAA+++++ first class all the way.Excellent food, service and atmosphere.Bar staff go out of there way to make you feel #1.
Since the time it's opened, Nakama has been my favorite restaurant in Pittsburgh. I've been there over a dozen times and not once have I been disappionted. The sushi is incredible and works as an amazing appetizer to what is always a fantastic main course, regardless of what you order. The chefs, although not always authentic, are entertaining and fun. The bar is trendy and stocked with amazing c...
Tonight I enjoyed yet another delicious meal with great entertainment! Our hibachi chef was pretty impressive...especially when it came to lighting the fire (those of you that have been there know what I'm talking about!. He even made a little volcano out of the onions and soy sauce. I've never seen anything like it!
Wonderful for the entire family, any occasion. We have enjoyed both the dinner and sushi bar. The service is the best and the food is unsurpassed in the Pittsburgh area. It is a great place for that special "celebration" or just a night out. I recommend it above all others in the area and I have sampled sushi from several different restaurants. After Nakama opened "it's the only sushi spot I...
Nakama is one of the best new resturants in the Pittsburgh area. It has excellent food and outstanding service. I recomend that everyone goes to Nakama at least once for the experience.
I have been to Nakama many times now, and I absolutely love it. Every time I go, I take someone new with me and I have never had a bad experience. The food is excellent, the service rocks, and we never leave with an empty stomach! I would reccommend it to anyone!
If you like sushi, then Nakama is the only name you need to know in Pittsburgh.
I work on the South Side. This is a great place for happy hour too. 1/2 price apps, strong drinks, and hot bartenders.
You will not be disappointed.
My friends and I love going to Nakama. The drinks are great, and the food is even better! I highly recommend it!
My husband surprised me with dinner at Nakama for my birthday. What a wonderful surprise! I had heard great accolades about this restaurant but now I know that they're all true! The food was unsurpassed and the service was wonderful. The staff really knows how to make a special occasion an even more memorable evening. I can't wait to return!!!
Nakama serves the most tender and tasty filet mignon that I have ever had. The presentation of the sushi orders is absolutely gorgeous as well, and my husband savors every bite.
When this restaurant first opened, I was so excited to have a Japanese hibachi close to home.
Now that I go as often as my wallet allows, my excitement hasn't waned. Don't get me wrong I think the expense is well worth it. Not only is the food delicious, but there's also a lot of it.
It's rare that I treat myself to a nice dinner out, and when I do, it better be good. Nakama never disappoint...
Everytime I go to Nakama - I have an experience like no other. The food is always hot and fresh and service is fantastic. My friends and I always have a night to remember of good food and fun times. Keep up the good work Nakama! See you again soon!
Nakama offers a modern feel and great food. EVERYTIME I go there, it is packed!
They make killer drinks and have an incredible hibachi!! The sushi is divine!! The staff is great and the food is awesome!!
Nakama has a wonderful atmosphere.
Both the Sushi and Habachi are beyond compare.
Nakama has
become our family's favorite Japanese restaurant in Pittsburgh.
I recommend it to everyone!
Nakama is definitely the place to see and be seen, with one of the best happy hours for young professionals in the 'Burgh. There are many vegetarian options at the hibachi and sushi bar, so non-carnivores will be right at home.
I have to agree with the majority of people on here...Nakama is a great restaurant. It is definitely a busy place and sometimes (even with reservations - which I have learned to ALWAYS make...esp. on a weekend!) you do have to wait. I definitely think that it is worth it. What do expect from a great restaurant??? Sure, I have had the same experiences with the $ off coupons not being valid at th...
Nakama has great cusomer service and are quick to meet your needs. Their food is amazing and their dipping sauce is even better. They cook the food right in front of you and the staff is very friendly and the chefs educate you on the meal while cooking it. Overall it is and an excellent upscale casual dining restaurant with great lunch specials.
anagement -
I guess I am just an unlucky patron I gave your restaurant another try, with a party of four. Dinner reservations made for 10:30 p.m. Saturday, September 23rd. Being aware of the restaurant's 15 minute window for ALL parties to be seated, we arrived at 10:26 p.m. Three of us got out of the vehicle, the fourth person pulled up to the Valet area. Twenty-five minutes later, the driv...
I went to Nakama for my birthday and with 3 other people with birthdays. We had an excellent time. The menu is just filled with so many great dishes. We got a sushi platter and it was what i expected and more. We had made reservations a week before, as long as you get there on time and your whole party is there your table will be ready. Our chef did an awesome job preparing the food. It was...
The atmosphere and food is unbeatable. Nakama has something for everyone. Even if you don't like sushi or fish there are plenty of entrees to please everyone. The steak that I had was fabulous! There were only 2 of us for dinner and we were seated with other people at a large table. It was fun getting to talk to and meet people that you normally would not speak to in a restaurant. I would highly ...
I have dined at Nakama many times but my last trip there was the best. I took my girlfriend and her daughter to lunch. The wait staff and the chef were just simply incredible to the 3 of us. My girlfriend's daughter loved the chef and how funny he was while cooking our lunches.
The smile on her face was priceless.
Just wanted to say Thanks to all at Nakama for such a wonderful experienc...
My friend and I have been going to Nakama faithfully to get our fix! I must have my shrimp sauce a MINIMUM of once a month if not more. I've been to every sushi place in Pittsburgh and Nakama has the best sushi, hands down! Not only can they put their food up for cheers but their apple martinis are nothing to shake a chopstick at!
Watching the chef prepare our meal made me want to learn to do it myself! The sushi looks like art work and the bar keeps you busy while you wait for a table. I've been there a few times and will definately be going back in the new future. I highly highly recommend Nakama! :) Whether you stop in for a light sushi lunch, or a full hibachi steak dinner, you are sure to enjoy the atmosphere and exqu...
We were in Pittsburgh for a Pirates game and we stopped at Nakama. We sat at the Sushi bar and we met Kim, Nakama's Sushi chef. He gave us recommendations and made us the most wonderful Sushi. We will definitely be back
On 9-25-06, I visited Nakama for the 4th time and I was so excited because for my birthday they sent me a coupon for dinner. It is very rare that a restaurant acknowledges your birthday and let alone gives you a gift! The chef was excellent, his presentation was exciting and the food was so fresh. (I think the shrimp were still swimming on the cart.) The portions are gigantic and everyone at my t...
Great atmosphere, fabulous food! Portions are huge, I always leave with leftovers, and am stuffed. I was afraid of Sushi, after a bad experience before, but tried it here, and am hooked! It gets extremely busy, so make reservations, and plan to stay awhile, but fresh food, cooked to perfection, always takes longer. They do a great job. Parking can be a problem, but they do offer valet parkin...
Whether I'm just getting some sushi, or sitting at the grill, it's always a good experience. I'd say it's one of the best places in Pittsburgh to go with friends if you want to have a good time. Can get really busy so I'd reccomend making reservations for larger parties. The happy hour specials are great too! This is definitely a place I take all of my friends visiting from out of town. Naka...
Nakama is one of my favorite restaurants to meet up with friends at. We always go at least once a month for sushi & drinks and just hanging out in the bar. The bar staff is exceptionally friendly and attentive. No matter who you are, the bartenders always treat you like a VIP. The sushi (and all food) is always fresh and served to your specific requests. The upbeat and lively scene makes it ...
I have been at Nakama for both dinners and happy hour. The atmosphere is fabulous and the food is very good. I highly recommend it!!!
My friends and I love driving from Latrobe, PA out to the South Side of Pittsburgh just to make a night on the town based around dinner at Nakama. We are college students and love to try new things. We tried Nakama one Saturday night before one of our college dances actually held in Pittsburgh. This was our first Japanese style dining experience and we had such a fun, fresh and invigorating ex...
This resturant is one of my Favorites, so much so that it is where I take all of my friends for their birthday dinners and where my Family takes me every year for my birthday...It is a wonfderful atmosphere, and great food..I love watching all of the action at the hibachi tables, but even the bar area is a great place to sit and enjoy yourself.
Nakama is one of the classiest and unique restaurants in Pittsburgh. The atmosphere is great and anytime I have been in there, it is packed! I have been to Nakama for both dinner and drinks. I thought dinner was delicious and have been trying to make it back with a group of people for another fun night!
If you have not been to Nakama yet you need to!! They have the best japense food that I have ever had. The sushi bar is also really good. I go to Nakama atlest once a week for the sushi bar. The habachi is also excellent! The service is great and so is the food.
Some of the best food on Carson street!!! Great food at a prime place to meet with others for the night.
Nakama was one of the first places where I tried sushi, and I have been a loyal customer ever since. Their products are delicious and their sushi chefs are always up for conversation.
I would just like to say how much i enjoy going to Nakama, it quickly became one of my favorite places to go. I just recently went for my birthday and had a great time. My group consisted of six people, and we made our reservations over the internet through Nakama's website so we didnt have to wait very long to be seated. However while we did wait we enjoyed a few drinks at the bar, and some h...
The atmosphere is very intimate but also is very welcoming to a group of friends. The dim lighting, personal chef and large amounts of delicious food encourage customers to come back for more. Make sure you make a reservation, because even though this place is well worth the wait, the excitement Nakama brings may make it hard to stand!
Awesome! Four of us went to Nakama 2 weeks ago to celebrate a birthday. Very entertaining evening and nice to surprise the birthday guy with a desert and singing. The food at Nakama is amazing and you definately get what you pay for - from filet, veggies to sushi etc! We are looking forward to going back again soon and plan on taking our parents for their anniversary.
I have been to quite a few Japanese steak houses. This is by far the best. Sushi bar is tops. I believe the lunch is a steal. Good people and great food. All I have taken there end up going back. The crowd is of all ages. My favorite.
Nakama is extremely sophisticated, well structured and complete with creative decor. This japanese sushi bar is something to visit when in Pittsburgh. I've made it a ritual after work Friday happy hour bar, and you should too!
I only wish that I got down the the south side more often to eat at Nakama. Not only is the sushi among the best around (and their original creations are to die for!), but it's such an affordable meal. It can get a little crowded sometimes, but the atmosphere is always happy and welcoming.
This isn't the place to go for peace but if it is great food and alot of fun you are looking for, this is it!! Our mom's group met there for dinner. The cooks were great fun and the food was wonderful...just a bit hard to have a conversation with anyone but those seated right next to you.
My husband and I went for lunch on a Sunday and had no problem getting a seat right away (no reservations). It was our first time at this type of restaurant. We were curious about the cuisine, but no clue what the terminology meant. Our server and chef were very knowlegable and helpful. Everything was delicious!! We can't wait to go back.
I have always enjoyed hibatchi dining and then I went to Nakama and realize all that I had been missing. Wow! What a fantastic time. The atmosphere is artistic, the service is great, the chefs are adept and food is delectable. I first went with a friend and a bunch of people I had not met before. It was a great setting to talk and get to know each other. Since then I have been there for lun...
I am orginally from California and it has taken me months to find a sushi place that is hip and actually has good food. I crave their Hawaiian rolls weekly. The bar has a good crowd and gets pretty busy but the service has always been great.
Nakama is the place to be... Cool decor, tasty drinks and a long list of appetizers if you just want to hang at the bar. Delcious dinners in the diningroom. One of the best places to go in Pittsburgh for sure.
I love this place!!! My boyfriend loves the sushi and I love the filet and I mean it when I say it melts in your mouth! I never liked fried rice until I started to frequent this establishment, the food is just amazing! I've brought my parents as well as my boyfriend's parents from out of town to experience it first hand and everyone has thoroughly enjoyed it!
With three children under the age of 5, we don't get out very often, but the few times we've been to Nakama have been sensational. The food was great, moderately priced, and the service was excellent. I noticed it was family friendly the last time we were there, so we are sure to bring our children there in the future!
I thought this dinner experience was exquisite. The food was delicious... cooked to perfection by an entertaining chef. The shrimp and the steak I had were seasoned just right. I thought with the unique atmoshphere and the great food it proved to be an enjoyable evening for our entire dinner party. I would highly recommend this restaurant. Once you try it I'm sure you will tell your friends...
My girlfriend and I went to Nakama about 2 weeks ago and had a great dinner. The Filet with Shrimp Appetizer was amazing as well as California Roll. Would highly recommend and atmosphere is fun.
All I can say is that I love Nakama! I went to another Hibachi style restaurant on Friday and it was a mistake! The food and service were no comparison. Everything about the Nakama is great, especially the Nakama Cosmo. I promise I will never cheat on the Nakama with another place again.
My friends took me there for my 45th birthday. The food was excellent! I had twin lobster tails and they were cooked to perfection. They even allowed us to bring in the birthday cake my friends ordered me from New York. They cut it and served it for us. I was having such a great night I left without my digital camera. Later on when I remembered, I called Nakama frantic....they already had it at t...
I was so happy when Nakama opened and have loved going there ever since. The sushi is really great and there is a nice selection. They also have great happy hour specials. The food served hibatchi is good too. You really cant go wrong with this restaurant.
This place is great to meet out with all age groups. The sushi is great and so are the drinks. You might even see a Steeler or two.
The food and drinks are wonderful and so is the wait staff. A great great gathering place to meet up with friends on a Friday/Saturday night!!
Our Red Hat group, Rubies & Amethyst with the Pink & Purple Pirate Princesses, recently had lunch at Nakama, and it was fantastic! The waitstaff was very understanding and let my mom sit in the dinning room while we waited for the rest of our party to arrive. (Her bad knees make prolong standing painful.) Just little things like that make all the difference. Our food was delicious! I enjoyed a Ha...
Nakama is one of the happening spots in Pittsburgh - on any nite of the week! Great happy hour and great atmosphere. Would highly recommend it for the food and the people. Would not recommend if concerned with the noise because it does tend to get a bit loud. Overall great hibachi food and the chefs always had a lil something to their shows. Highly recommended!
I love Nakama, not only do they have great sushi but they also have great hibatchi and the bar is great for having a fun night out. I would pick Nakama over any other sushi bar in town!
I try to go to Nakama as often as I can, at least 2 or 3 times a month. Excellent sushi (probably the best in town), excellent menu and wait staff, and a great atmosphere for a few cocktails!!
since the first time i went to Nakama after its opening, and every time since, i've thought it was great. the service has been very good each time and everything i've eaten there has been delicious - and all my friends agree! (we especially love the Hawaiian Roll..)
the sushi bar has the freshest fish in town, served beautiful by your sushi chef. sushi appears like a piece of art, and melts in your mouth. nothing better!
This is a total dining experience with great atmosphere and trendy people to watch. Always a good time.
I've only been once, but the food was very good. If you enjoy Hibachi Steakhouses, the atmosphere could not be better. It was loud and exciting, and you will enjoy it with an entire dinner party or just a date. The selection of Japanese beers was also appealing to me. I will definitely go back again.
Nakama has OK sushi, but come on, when you bribe your customer's with a $10 gift certificate to give you a good review! That is just Pathetic! I had to put it out there, so that people know their 400+ reviews were paid for. It's really sad, this is suppose to be a site for a true honest reviews. Nakama is noisy, the waiters take forever to serve you, and it's way overpriced. If you want auth...
I've tried all of the hibachi's out there. No one comes close to Nakama. From the trendy atmosphere, to the top notch chef's, this restaurant has it all.
My only complaint is they give you too much food for dinner. Lunch is severely less expensive and still more than you can eat.
I try to make it there once a week, and will continue to do so as long as I can afford $8 for the best lunc...
Great sushi, great crowd, get there early as you can for happy hour, it gets crowded!!! Excellent appetizers and great enviroment! Feels like you are in a bigger city than Pittsburgh!
You won't find better Sushi in the Burgh, and the habachi is a blast. Enjoy an Authentic Japanese Meal with a hip modern atmosphere.
I have to Nakama many times on many different occasions... From just me and my husband to a bachelorette party for 20 women. Each and every time I have been there, I have never been disappointed. I would and do recommend it to everyone.
Great drinks and good food. . . Great location and a fun atmosphere. I just wish the bar area wasn't so smokey.
Nakama is a great place to go for dinner or even lunch. They have a lunch menu which is a scaled down version of their dinner menu at a very reasonable price. The food is great and the drinks are awsome.
They have a great hibatchi grill...and their chefs are terrific. They not only cook your food for you in front of you...but they also entertain you too!
If your not up for all that, they...
Great for for lunch because you can get an excellent full course hibachi meal for around $10!
Great for impressing that someone special for dinner in the romanticly lit decor.
The food is outstanding and if you like Beni Hana then you will absolutely love this place, as the food is ten times better!
Love the succulent shrimp appetizer with the seafood sauce! Love the fillet cooked with ...
Nakama is a wonderful restaurant for a special night. The food was incredible and the service impeccable. We were sat on time and were not rushed from our table in any way. It was refreshing to sit down and enjoy a meal for over two hours without being rushed to leave.
It was probably the best dining experience that I have had in a long time. The customer service was great from the moment we arrived to the second that we left. The food was delicious and the portions were great for the pricing. It was an all over great experience and I will defiantly be going back soon.
Nakama is a great place to dine, with fun atmosphere, and the best sushi in Pittsburgh. I really am not the biggest sushi fan, but like it here. However, I will go and eat the best meal in Pittsburgh, Bob's Triple Combination any day of the week! Don't miss it!
I've been to Nakama Japanese Restaurant on half-dozen occasions. I've always found the service & quality of food to be excellent, as well as a great ambience. I recommend it for drinks, dinner or sushi. I will definitely be back !
My wife and I have enjoyed many dining experiences at Nakama. The menu is varied enough to cover the tastes of my entiree family while the Sushi, being the best I have had, has made converts out of both my wife and daughter. The service and staff are always timely and pleasant.
I had my 33rd birthday party lunch at Nakama and the food was great. The chef did a great job. We had a large party and we were able to sit at 1 table and everyone's food was served hot and we all ate at the same time. I normally do not order suishi but the seared Ahi Tuna was out of this world. I will return again.
For the past two years I've been treated to Nakama as a b-day surprise. We normally have a group of 20 people and Nakama is a great place for larger groups. I'm not much of a sushi eater, but the rest of their menu is superb. I ALWAYS get an order of the fried rice to go although I leave with left overs and a full stomach! I highly recommend Nakama for everyday eating or for special occasions...
I have been to Nakama twice in about a month and a half. The first time I brought someone from out of town. They wanted to eat somewhere that was a little different and fun. I had heard good things about Nakama and had been there for drinks, so I dicided to take a chance. I am so glad I did. The food was delicious and the service was great. We even had our own mini magic show in the bar are...
Great place for family friends and children!!! The food is hish-quality and the atmosphere is great!!!
I was never a big fan of sushi--I just didnt realize what all the fuss was about until I tried Nakama's. They have a very extensive sushi menu-from the old faves like the Boston Roll to platters like the Nakama Boat, their sushi is always fresh and delicious. I can't wait to go back!!
I have eaten here multiple times. Everytime is excellent. From just having a couple of cocktails to having the whole hibachi experience. I have yet to eat my whole dinner. The food is plentiful and the service is excellent.
The food was great, the prices reasonable and it has a great view of east carson street. Make sure you stop for a drink, because they have a tasty selection. The sushi is just excellent and the atmosphere friendly and fun. I highly recommend it!
I never really enjoyed sushi until a friend took me to Nakama for dinner....it was better than i had expected and the service was terrific too!...Its fun to sit at the bar and have a few drinks with the super variety of sushi...its a great weekly stop!
Nakama is awesome! Others will dare to compare but few will succeed. By far Nakama has the best Sushi, best service, best atmosphere, best hibachi, and best scene in da' burgh. Make a reservation, make a night of it, you won't be sorry!
Fun atmosphere and great food for a night out with friends...perfect for entertaining out of town guests...HIp bar and great martini's!!!
Great food and service. We all went there after my daughter had gone there for sushi. Well, we've been back twice since, once for a great dinner and again to the sushi bar. Will be back again soon.
We love to go out to eat and this is one of our favorites. It is very upscale but casual. All ages are comfortable in the bar area and the dining is superb. It is great for an economical night out if you stay in the front for sushi or go all out for a full meal cooked in front of you. There can be quite a wait on the weekends so it is a good idea to go early and be prepared to wait for a table. T...
Not only is the food great, but the atmosphere is great. Very trendy and lot's of food for the money!
Words cannot express the fresh tasting sushi at Nakama. I highly recommend the spicy tuna rolls! You cannot go wrong here!
This is by far the best restaurant in Pittsburgh!! I have been attending Nakama for about 2+ years now and just love it. With a hip atmosphere, amazing food and a awesome staff this place is great!! Nakama also has a friendly valet service; which on Carson St. is a must. After just a few stops at the bar and grill, I quickly became aquainted with the staff, who make me feel welcome every time I a...
Nakama is by far the burgh's best Japanese Steak House. Great food, great service!!! I will be back many times and highly recommend you try it out sometime.
I eat at Nakama about twice a month and I love it. Sushi is excellent and the hibachi grill is the best in town. Ive tried them all so I know.
what can i say i love this restaurant. The steak is SO tender and tasty, so is the shrimp and chicken. Service is wonderful and drinks are superb. Not cheap but the cost is very reasonable.
Nine of us spent an evening around the grill. The coconut shrimp and scallops were wonderful. We ordered some unique drinks, had a great time. This is a great place for a group of people to eat, celebrate and enjoy the atmosphere.
I took a friend here for her 27th birthday celebration. I called ahead for reservations and asked that the special "birthday" dessert, along with singing and gong playing, to make the evening special. The service was exceptional and the food was delicious. Our waiter was polite and pleasant despite the growing dinner crowd. Check it out! It's an experience you won't forget.
I went to Nakama for the first time last week. I've been to other Hibachi restaurants before, but what distinguishes this one from all others is the atmosphere. It was great being able to be right in the middle of all the grills. The food was excellent, and wow, what great portions. You definitely get enough to eat. It has become my new favorite place for Japanese. Well done Nakama!
For some wonderful food in a wonderful environment, visit Nakama on the South Side. They provide excellent service and have one of the best happy hours in town! They also have some great weekly specials to enjoy. You definitely get what you pay for.
Nakama's hibachi shrimp, steak, and chicken are hands-down the most delicious in all of Pittsburgh....make sure to make reservations, though...the place fills up fast, and for good reason!!
My co-workers and I are always looking for a fun lunch spot on the Southside but found some of the better restaurants a little expensive for lunch. Look no further than Nakama. The food is excellent and the portions relatively generous for a Japanese restaurant. You can have lunch for less than $10.00 including an appetizer and there is lots to chose from besides sushi. You have a choice of si...
Every since it opened I have been happy with Nakamas amazing martinis(try their Pumpkin Spice one in fall! Yummy), fresh and tasty sushi(best Spicy Tuna Roll in the city) and hopping atmosphere. I think the quality is exceptional, here, eating raw fish is a joy-you know you are safe! thank you Nakama!
Only recommendation-hostesses smile a bit! Your job can't be that bad!
Food was fabulous! A group of friends went out to dinner and we were not only entertained by the chef but we totally enjoyed our meal, it was delicious! I am definitely heading back again for dinner and the atmosphere.
I was introduced to nakama by a group of nurses that I used to work with, having never tried sushi before, i was pleasantly surprised by the variety of types of sushi offered. I have eaten both at the sushi bar and at the hibachi tables and have been pleased with both service and quality of food. I never leave Nakama without a smile on my face and a great dining experience.
The bartenders are gr...
I love this restaurant!! Nakama has the best food in the entire city, hands down, and it's such a fun place to go, whether you're with a small or large group of friends. The chef's are always friendly and really add to the whole experience. I highly recommend Nakama to everyone that asks me about places to eat in Pittsburgh, it's amazing!!!
I have personally been going to this restuarant, since before it actually opened, as I installed the phone equipment for them. From taste testing food then till this day, I haven't gone anywhere but NAKAMA for sushi!! Even just to stop in for a drink during happy hour, it has always been a great experience. Usually at the sushi bar, Key, is the greatest. He always comes up with some new combinat...
I have been to Nakama a few times since it opened, and plan to frequent there a lot more now that I moved to the South Side! The food is great (love the filet and chicken combo)! The atmosphere is fun and our cook was very entertaining. I would highly recommend this restaurant!
The atmosphere is exciting and there is always a chance to meet new people. The food is delicious and the menu is very extensive. The service we have had has been very good and I wouldn't hesitate to go back again.
I would highly recomend this modern and confortable restaurant-bar.
The sushi bar its really great. Good quality! The bar is also pretty nice to have a good cocktail and enjoy some music. And the restaurant, well, thats the best thing of the whole place for me. Veeeery good scallops, you should try them!
Wow! Great place. Best sushi in Pittsburgh, hands down. Great atmosphere, quick service, and great food. Highly recommend.
Nakama is one of the most exquisite additions to the South Side. The food is amazing, whether you are going there for a full dinner, or just for drinks at happy hour. When I have guests or family visiting Pittsburgh, I ALWAYS bring them to Nakama. It works for all ages, all occasions, and all types of people. I can bring my cousins there for happy hour to show off the South Side, I can bring my g...
This place is so much fun and once is not enough! Each time I have been there it is equally if not more fun. The chefs are very interactive and willing to have lots of fun including table competitions laughing joking and just plain amazing skills. And the food is GREAT! If you take a mixed age crowd then I recommend earlier in the week and avoid Friday and weekends due to it being much noisie...
I visit Nakama at least twice per month and have always had great food and great service. The atmosphere is very welcoming to large groups. When I have guest in town I always take them to Nakama!
Nakama was a very fun place to eat. This is not the place for a quiet romantic dinner. If you are in the mood for something upbeat then this is your place. The food is very plentiful and good. Some menu items are quite expensive but other are quite affordable when you consider you get two meals out of them. The sushi is pretty good and the bar is reasononable priced. Bar has a good selection...
Everything is good -- food, drinks, service -- and some things are truly great, such as the appetizer of Green Noodles (make sure you have breath freshener -- LOTS of fresh garlic!) and people watching (always draws an interesting crowd). The only bad thing is trying to find parking on the South Side, but Nakama even makes that easy with their valet service.
This restaurant is wonderful!! Both times we've gone I've taken home enough for a VERY filling lunch the next day. It is delicious! We love it.
The absolute best Japanese food that I've ever tasted! I took my boyfriend for his birthday and he fell in love with it! It's now a hotspot for us! Thanks Nakama!!!!
I have been to Nakama several times and have always found the food, atmosphere and service to be exemplary. In addition Nakama keeps me abreast of any special events or food specials through a most interesting web site. Cooking at the table is a fascinating work of showmanship and culinary expertise. I would not hesitate ti recommend this establishment to anyone.
I kid you not, Nakama's is the best place to eat in or near Pittsburgh. I have 2 children under 8 years old and they too love Nakama's. I also recently had a business meeting with 5 colleagues here. Several colleagues were from New York City and to say they were impressed with my restaraunt selection is an under-statement! The food is always fantastic. Service is always efficient and friendl...
In my family, someone having a birthday gets to choose any restaurant for dinner. The last two have been Nakama, both chosen by my teenaged sons. Mine's next, and it well could be three in a row! They love the filet mignon, me the tuna. My only objection is the noise level in the restaurant, but the quality (and amount!) of the food allows me to overlook that. I have a Japanese friend who tells m...
We ate at Nakama, the interior is very unique and enjoyable. The service was good. The chef was extremely nice to us and had a great personality. The food was of course excellent. This is the best Japanese restaurant in the Pittsburgh area, believe me, we've been to all of the! Definitely go here for a good time and great food!
I love this place.... It has the best Martini's, best sushi, and best place to be seen no matter what day of the week it is!
Nakama is a really fun place to eat. The food is great, the chefs are entertaining, and the atmosphere is comfortable. The convenient valet parking helps with the tight parking situation in the South Side. Highly recommended!
THIS IS A REALLY GREAT RESTAURANT. I AM ORIGINALLY FROM PHILADELPHIA WHERE THERE ARE PLENTY OF AMAZING PLACES TO EAT AND THIS RANKS RIGHT UP THERE WITH THE BEST SUSHI PLACES I HAVE EVER BEEN TO. THE DRINK MENU IS PRETTY GOOD TOO. THE ATMOSPHERE IS REALLY UNIQUE AND THERE IS SOMETHING ALWAYS GOING ON THERE........PEOPLE ARE IN AND OUT TO EAT AND DRINK WHICH MAKES IT A VERY TRENDY AND UPBEAT PLACE...
Everything at this resturant is marvelous. The presentation of the preparation of the food is entertaining. The food is great also.
I'm not a big fan of sushi but I absolutely love the hibachi. The presentation is excellent and everyone os very friendly. The food is awesome too. I never finish a meal anywhere but I always clean my plate here. The sesame chicken is my fav!
I've been here a few times, and even when they are busy, the service is very very fast! The sushi is awesome, too. It's also a great place to stop and have a drink. While the steakhouse prices are expensive, the sushi is reasonable and excellent.
This place has the best sushi i've ever had. Hibachi food is excellent also. But we keep returning for the fabulous sushi. so fresh and yummy. Great bar scene for night life.
Great food, great atmosphere. Fast service, good prices. LOVE IT! I would not recommend anywhere else in Pittsburgh for sushi...This place is hands down the best in the city.
Nakama's is the nice place to be whehter tou want to enjoy and nice refreshing drink are you are just trying to meet new people. Sitting at the hibach style table with someone you don't even know is just an expeience in it's self. When you go out to eat you are just so used to sitting with the folks that you came to the resturant with. But here at Nakama's they want everyone to feel as though t...
Whether you are in the mood for sushi or a few drinks Nakama is a posh place to go with a great reputation! No matter what time of day I go there I never seem to wait any longer than any other popular restraunt in town! Definately try their spicy tuna app.
Always have a great time when we visit Pittsburgh from Altoona. Love the Strip and always catch a ball game or two with our Pittsburgh friends. We would never think of returning home without a stop at Nakama for a belly full of great sushi. We really like the spicy tuna. We've never been disappointed, ever!
The filet was excellent --- we had a group of 10 adults and 1 baby --- the staff couldn't be nicer to try to keep the baby entertained. They had a big GONG for the birthday celebration and let us bring our own cake. Great night out -- HIGHLY RECOMMEND !!!
I have been to many places now that have sushi and I have to say that Nakama is the best. They offer so many different things that others do not!! The decor is fabulous as well. The place is always exciting. I have never had a bad time - the chefs always make me laugh when I eat at the tables. And I must say the Nakama Como is my favorite drink ever!!! When I have a bad day nothing makes it bett...
Seriously, I have never tasted tuna like this! I know that sounds silly, but it's true. I have been to Nakama several times, and despite the large selection on the menu, I always order the tuna dinner. I was in Myrtle Beach this summer and went to a fantastic japanese restaurant, Yamato, and while i felt the entertainment provided by the chef was better/livelier, they didn't even have tuna on ...
Nakama is one of my favorite places to go in Pittsburgh. They have great sushi and a wonderful atmosphere. I always have a great experience either eating or just going for drinks there.
I recently went to Nalama for the first time with a groups of friends...it was the greatest atmosphere and greatest food that I have had in a long time! The staff was wonderful and so was the ENTIRE experience...highy recommend for anyone!!!!
I've gone to Nakama many, many times and whether it's for sushi or habachi, it's always been excellent!! The servers are always efficient, and the chefs are amazing!!!! It's always more than just a dinner when we go there. I love the fact that they have a rewards program as well. Ever since I signed up I've recieved awesome coupons every few months, which just gives us one more reason to keep c...
amazing service, great food, fun atmosphere......i would reccomend to anyone.....call aheadd for reservations
The atmosphere, the food, and the service are all excelent. Whenever friends come to town to visit we make sure that Nakama is one of our stops. Also the bar has fabulous drinks and the menu prices are very reasonable with large portions.
Nakama is the best restaurant in Pittsburgh. The staff is great, and the food is fantastic. I was never a sushi fan until I had tuna there. My friends and I also love the happy hour. The appetizers are great and at a great price!!
Nakama has to be the best Japanese Steakhouse in town. I visit Almost every Monday. The staff is friendly and quick. Have yet to have a bad chef! Pricing is very reasonable for the LARGE amount of food you recieve! You will not leave this place without a to go box! If your looking for a fun night out and some great entertainment go to Nakama, you will be happy you went!!! See you Guys on M...
The atmosphere is trendy and Nakama is THE place to be on the South Side. I don't know of another place in the 'Burgh that is like this. The servers are always very knowledgeable and helpful. The food is better than any other japanese in pittsburgh! A DONT MISS!!!
Nakama offers a wonderful atmosphere as well as quick and friendly service. The food is always wonderful and perfectly prepared! The chefs are entertaining and make your meal an event to remember!
Nakama is an all-around great restaurant. In the many times I have been there, I have received nothing less than excellent food and wonderful service. The table-side cooking is fun without being "tourist-y" and the chefs are excellent at what they do. The prices are very reasonable and the food is delicious. In the evenings and weekends, the adult bar crowd is great, but I can take my childre...
Nakama's food is awesome. Service is wonderful and entertaining. My children love to go to Nakama's. I often chose Nakama's to celebrate a special occassion, but also great for no occassion at all ! A MUST TRY !
I LOVE THIS PLACE!! It is very busy . . . it seems like all the time (and there is good reason for this)! Make a reservation and you will be seated near instantaneously. The sushi is fabulous and the entertainment (tableside chef) is always spetacular! This is my favorite place to eat and the prime corner location just adds to the experience! I have been to several Japanese Steakhouses (both...
One of the best place to visit in the Southside. Excellent customer service. Fun place to eat or just stop for a drink. Love it! I go at least once a week
I think they should open one in DC!!! I went to school in Pittsburgh, but now reside in the DC area and try to get to Nakama any time I'm in PA! The atmosphere is fun, great drinks, appetizers, and entrees! I especially love your eel rol....mmmmm!!! I took my mother there for her birthday and she is not apt to try new foods, but the ambiance changed all that! Fabulous chefs, food, and waitst...
I have never had better Japanese food anywhere else. Ever since I ate at Nakama, I won't even eat the Japanese in the mall because it just doesn't compare. Also, the chefs are amazing and extremely entertaining to watch. What I also enjoy is receiving newsletters and coupons in the mail from Nakama. I highly recommend Nakama to anyone who likes Japanese and wants to have a good time!
Nakama is my favorite resturant. I have never had any complaints any time I have been there. The employee are awesome and the food is amazing! I try to eat there at least once a week! I've taking a lot of people from out of town there and they all agree that it is one of the best resutrants there is! The atmosphere is awesome and it is great for the whole family!
Nakama is the best place to go with a big group of people to get great food, have fun, and get the best sushi in town!
I absolutely love Nakamas! Where else can you be treated like a VIP and even get a card to say it. I've been going to Nakamas for over a year now and must say it is an experience every time I go. I particulary enjoy Thursday nights and Friday happy hour. The atmosphere is upscale, the service five star, and the food incredible. Nakamas goes out of their way to make each customer whether first tim...
Nakama is an excellent place to take a new comer of a veteran of sushi and hibatchi cuisine. This is a favorite for me to take friends from out of town, truly a unique place in the heart of south side. Recommended to all!
I love Nakama. It is the only place that has great chicken livers. I only wish that they would start to serve the ginger sherbet again.
Any group that has anything to celebrate should do it at Nakama! Not only will you get the best Japanese it Pittsburgh, but you'll get quite a show too. A group of us went to Nakama for my bachelorette party and even my most picky friends kept raving about how great the food was. The portion size is very large, the drinks are tasty, and the atmosphere is fun. ...Definitely one of the best res...
While some believe every hibachi restaurant is the same, Nakama stands out above the rest. It is definately more "happening" than other Japanese steakhouses and the atmosphere is what attracts different demographics of patrons. The food is amazing and the entire experience is just plain fun. Steak and shrimp keep me coming back!
I am originally from Pittsburgh but am now in Columbus, OH.....anytime I make it back home, Nakama is usually a spot that I try to go back to. Not only is the food wonderful, but I have always been treated very well by the staff!! Each time I feel like it gets better everytime. I will be in town in 2weeks and my entire family is planning on going. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone t...
Nakama is most definitely my favorite place to eat! I have been here many times and every time I have such a great time. I would never think you could have such a good time at a restaurant. The atmosphere is great! It is ideal for any occasions -- a night out with your friends, a date, or just to go and get some drinks and sushi! I highly recommend everyone try it....you will not be let down.
I would have written this review even if there wasn't a $10 gift certificate available.
This is a great restaurant. Good food, resonable price and great atmosphere.
I've been to a lot of Japanese restaurants and this is one of my favorites. I honestly have no complaints about the restuarant. I went on a Friday night with a reservation and got right in. The food was great and the service was f...

I absolutely love Nakama. Great atmosphere for dining and drinks. Always an interesting time. I have never had a negative experience at this restaurant. The food is always delicious. I always leave feeling filled and in a great mood.
I always suggest Nakama when people want a good dinner. It is my favorite place in the city.
I always have great service. The chefs are amazing and fun. The price is reasonable too!
I love the sushi, and the scallops for the hibachi are the best! The food is always fresh, and I always enjoying going there. Service is always good! The portions are huge too!
Anyway, I guess someone posted a negative post- it is a shame that someone had a bad experiance. Not everyone can like everything though...
And for those of you that think these reviews are biased because the owne...
We discovered Nakamas about a year ago. This has become our restaurant of choice on every special event and I personally take all of my buisness clients here for lunch. I have never had an unpleasent experiance. The service is fantastic and the food is to die for. I highly recommend Nakamas.
The hibachi steak, shrimp, and chicken are amazing. The mushroom soup is to die for and the fried rice is delicious. Having your food cooked in front of you is all the entertainment you need. From the extraordinary food to the excellent service, Nakama is the spot to be, whether it be lunch or dinner.
I have been to Nakama on a number of occasions and each time was a very enjoyable experience. Everything from the food to the clientele to the service is excellent. I would highly recommend it.
Nakama is one of my favorite restaurants EVER! My friends and I eat there at least twice a month, we just can't get enough! My fav is Bob's Triple, it is the best!! The service is great, the food is even better and theres even the entertainment of watching the chef cook right in front of you! You have to try, its an excellent dining experience!
I have been to Nakama several times for lunch. I have always found the staff to be courteous, prompt and helpful. The food is excellent. I highly recommend.
My wife and I have been to Nakama a few times since it has opened and I cannot say anything bad about the restaurant. The service has been good, food is excellent, the ambiance and atmoshere are fun. The place is usually pretty busy, so make sure to try and make a reservation. The Surf & Turf is my favorite.
great sushi and atmosphere. highly recommended for hanging out after work or at the sushi bar for dinner. Prices are very reasonable for the quality of food and service.
I'm a lover of japanese food and what can I say? A girl's gotta love her meat right? Well, I was pleasantly surprised by not only the service here, but by the food. The servers were very informative and on the ball with everything that a server needs to do and the food has never let me down yet. It is slightly pricey, but it's certainly worht it.
I've been to Nakama a couple of times now and I have always had a wonderful time. I actually don't usually like seafood so you would think I would avoid a restaurant like this, but even I love going to Nakama. For a nice restuarant in Pittsburgh the prices are about right and you get to watch your food being prepared. It's worth going here for the entertainment and it definitely helps that the fo...
Nakama is not your average Japanese steakhouse. From my first experience I gave it a 10+. I've been back there many times for the excellent food and friendly service. The deals far surpass any of the others I've ever had at any other Japanese steakhouse. I highly recommend trying Nakama for your next special occassion!
The restaurant on the south side is an excellent place to go for a Saturday night dinner. A reservation was made online and when we got their we were immediately directed to our table for 8. The service was wonderful and the food was delicious. Also, the pricing is great considering the large amount of food you receive for any item on the menu that is chosen.
A great place for dinner or even just to have drinks at the bar. Always a fun crowd. Dinner at Nakama is truly a great dining experience!
I work in the South side and any time i get a chance i come here to eat. Never have i had bad service, there is always prompt seating and the waitstaff is excellent. They give you a ton of food that is always very good and priced great. I strongly recommend Nakama!
I love everything about Nakama. I love the steak, the appetizers and I love the way that a large party can sit at the same table!
From excellent hibachi to superior sushi, Nakama is one of the best places to eat or drink on the Southside. Nakama is sure to fulfill your appetite.
I have been going to Nakama with friends and business associates for awhile now. I usually enjoy my experience. The sushi is wonderful, and they have a different selection than most sushi places. It is a great place to go if you are up for a fun night out on the town. WOuld not reccomend it if you are looking for a quiet evening of sushi with friends. There are other places for that. Way to...
THE REASON THE RATINGS ARE HIGH IS BECAUSE THE OWNER BRIBES PEOPLE TO SUBMIT POSITIVE FEEDBACK!!!
I'm known for consistently having a small appetite and usually am satisfied with children-sized portions when I eat out. However, while dining at Nakama I found the full-price portions to be much smaller than other Japanese steakhouses offer and twice as salty. Considering what they charge, I ...
Ever since Nakama and the big orange fish atop it's roof were introduced on Carson Street, South Side Pittsburgh, it has been a frequent stop of mine. Whether the occasion be a birthday, date, or group outing with friends, Nakama has always lived up to its outstanding reputation. Although I have been to other Japanese Steakhouses, Nakama offers a comfortable atmosphere with a wealth of food and d...
Who cares about a $ 10 reward for saying what we feel -- Noone is going to write something we don't absolutely feel is true. Why would we stay on the Nakama email list ?? We love the food and service -- that's why ,,,The gift is just a promotional reminder to do the right thing.
I also received the email offering $10 for a positive review. I'm really appalled by how many people allowed themselves to be bought by this email and ruined the spirit of this website. I've been to Nakama three times. My honest opinion? It's just ok, and very over priced for food that is just ok. I've been to hibachis in Philadelphia and NYC. The food here doesn't compare to there. The ri...
I like to go to Nakama because they have some of the most unique forms of sushi that I've ever seen. Their Maki rolls are fun and inventive. The chefs are very personable and will help you to decide what will work best for your tastes! Its a trendy spot with trendy cuisine.
The food here is excellent. The people are great and the prices are just right!!!
I would highly recommend Nakama to anyone who wants great food, atmosphere & prices!!!
I have visited Nakama's several times and have never been disappointed. The service was always prompt and friendly. The chef's were entertaining and the food was excellent.
The scallops were outstanding as well as the steak dishes.
After the first time I went there, I returned several times with different companions. Everyone was impressed and also returned with other people at other times. ...
my husband and i have eaten at nakama several times. we always have a great meal.
the noise level is a little high for intimate dining but the food is well worth it. the cooks are very accommodating to individual food preferences!
I can't believe how petty some of you people are and how some of you can do nothing but moan and whine and complain about something that you don't agree with! Give it a rest already! Sit back and enjoy life, stop trying to make it bad for everyone else just because you're miserable! If Nakama wants to offer its loyal, happy customers an extra incentive to spread the good word, then so be it. Pers...
Nakama chefs are the best in town. They cook your steak just the way YOU want it, not the way they feel it should be done. They ask and then do as you please. They are fun to watch, fun to talk to and great when there are kids present!!!
I have to eat there once a week, it is so good. I recommend the shrimp and chicken. The chefs are the best.
Not doing this for the $10 - I just honestly think it's a great place - food, fun, atmosphere. Very versatile place to go - good for dressing up and heading out for drinks, group dinner at the hibachi or even casual sitting at the bar to eat. Always had great service, usually sit at the bar to eat. Only negative is sometimes it's sooo busy- but that's what happens at a great place! Keep up th...
I love the different varieties of sushi offered, the best i've had in quite awhile. The hibachi experience is also very enjoyalbe and great for an evening out with a group of friends. The atmosphere is unique and aestetically pleasing. I would suggest Nakama to anyone looking for a good place to dine.
Nakama is by far my favorite restaurant! The food is absolutely wonderful! There hasn't been one selection that I didn't like. If you like great food with a positive atmosphere and an attentive wait staff, Nakama is your place. There have been several occasions where I have taken a large group of individuals to nakama and they were extremely accommodating. To this day, the group has been requesti...
Recently I celebrated my 30th birthday @ Nakama. Nakama was able to accommodate a table for 20 of us. I can't tell you anywhere else in town that can pull that off at one large table. It was a crowd pleaser for several other reasons. First is the obvious, the chefs are fun to interact with. Second and more import is the food. My girlfriend is real picky, so she went the chicken route. Sev...
We absolutely love Nakama. Everytime that we have family or friends into town we take them to Nakama....often for dinner, sometimes just for cocktails. Every time has proved to be a great experience that keeps us coming back! The Hibachi chefs make the dining experience so fun....and the food is always delicious! We will be back...to one of our very favorite restaurants in the city real soon!...
Nakama is the best japanese steakhouse we've ever dined at! The food is fresh & delicious!!! The atmosphere there is fun and inviting for both social and romantic dinners. We are regulars there and have never been dissatisfied-ever! If you haven't tried it, I encourage you to!
I'm a big fan of nakama. When I first moved to pittsburgh, I couldn't find anywhere to go for some decent sushi until I came across nakama. The food is awesome and the sushi chefs are always sweet. On special occations I eat at the hibatchi tables which are just as good as Benihanna's but more resonably priced. Try the hanalai roll and you'll never go anywhere else!
Nakama has amazing sushi and food!! I have been there more times than I can count. If you sign up for their newsletter they send you upcoming events, deals, and coupons which make it even better! If you do have to wait to be seated the bar is a wonderful place to wait with an order of sushi. I would recommend this place any day. The service is always fast and friendly. The food is always ho...
I visited Nakama for the first time on my birthday, and I was thoroughly impressed. The show was fantastic, and the meal was even better. They brought me a pineapple with sparklers flaring, while everyone at the table sang happy birthday to me. It was a great time. I was surprised at the portions, too. Normally, restaurants skimp on amount of food, but not price. Nakama prices are reasonable, giv...
Nakama is great on Weekend and Thursday nights- cool scene, young people, and by far the most delicious Japanese food in Pittsburgh!
My husband and I have been loyal Nakama customers for over 2 years. The food is incredible, the chefs are great and the ambiance is so modern. We have spent many birthdays, anniversaries and other celebrations there with family and friends.
We cant say enough about Nakama. We highly recommend trying Nakama today!!!!
My wife and I were frequent visitors to Nakama prior to the birth of our daughter. She was born in June, and we've been back three times since then. The staff are always helpful with seating arrangements to make us comfortable. The food is always excellent and the show is always entertaining. I've taken several other family members and friends there. They enjoyed the atomosphere as well!
I tried Nakama at the suggestion of a friend and was pleased to be overwhelmingly satisfied with the food and atmosphere. In the heart of Southside, Nakama offered a sense of style with my dinner. My date and I opted for the Sushi bar. I would have to rate Nakama as one of the best in town when it comes to sushi. I would definately dine there again.
Nakama has such a variety that everyone can find something they like. from the delicious sushi to the hot, sizzling hibachi ... what ever you desire you can find here!
I absolutely am the most obsessed with sampling sushi and sushimi every where I go. Pittburgh is home base for me and I am so happy there is finally a place right down the road that makes me feel like I am in some amazing foreign place. The atmosphere at Nakama may even rival the fantastic food. Even if you do not like sushi, this restaurant is definitely worth checking out if you are in a 60 ...
Excellent service. Quick, even though very busy. Awesome food! Loved it!!! Can't wait to eat there again.
The sushi is fantastic. The atmosphere is very cool. And if you go to the habachi for dinner, you will be entertained as your chef cooks delicious food.
My girlfriend introduced me to Nakama last October and it has since become our favorite place for "girls night out". We go out once a month and always say we won't be late but end up staying for hours! I highly recommend the Appletinni. It is the best I have had anywhere. The staff is very helpful and friendly and the chef's are out of this world! We will continue to be monthly Nakama visito...
This place is great. Everytime my cousin comes to Pittsburgh, we have to go to Nakama! Best sushi and a fun atmosphere.
I have recently started eating sushi and will not go anywhere but nakama. Its a great place to share meals and wine with friends....great spot
Nakama is a great place for anyone that is interested in trying sashimi/sushi for the first time, and veterans can enjoy themselves too. I have bad experiences with sashimi (raw fish) in the past, and was unwilling to give it another shot. After much convincing from my dining companion, we were off to Nakama. I was DEFINITELY impressed, and so glad I gave 'raw fish' another chance..it was SO fr...
If you like energy, buzz, this is the place for you. Not your boring restaurant. The food is excellent, maybe a little pricey but not when compared to other restaurants of this level in other cities. This is the place to be and be seen!
If your looking for great food, great service, and a great location, there isn't any place better than Nakama's on the South Side. My girlfriend and I love it, its by far our favorite place in Pittsburgh. The chefs are amazing and you won't find food this good prepared right before you anywhere else!
I'm from Ohio and was visiting Pittsburgh and heard about this restaurant so I decided to check it out. Not only was the food amazing, but the atmosphere and location were perfect: right in the heart of the south side. Our chef was very entertaining and the service was very good. It's definitely not your every day restaurant so if you're ever in the area you definitely need to give it a shot!
Nakama is by far the most fun, friendly, and delicious restaurant in Pitt. The staff is always friendly, the food is great, and even when it gets crowded, they always find room and have awesome service. I highly recommend.
Best place around and its great for the kids. the food is excellent and the service is outstanding.I wish I could eat there all the time. Tim Zola
Nakama is by far is the best restaurant in Pittsburgh!! This restaurant has a trendy atmosphere, has professional and friendly servers/hosts and the chefs are not only very entertaining, but take the time to educate you about the food and their craft. More importantly, the food is DELICIOUS!! I frequent Nakama and have had a WONDERFUL experience every single time I have been there and will contin...
I went to Nakama a little while ago to celebrate my boyfriend's brother's birthday. The atmosphere was fun and suiting for large parties! My boyfriend hasn't stopped talking about it since! We will actually be going for his brithday next month! Sure it's dark, and a little noisey, but what restaurants aren't any more. It didn't bother me in the least! I actually enjoyed the fact that it was...
If you are a sushi fan, this it without question the place for you. Great food, drink and atmosphere. If you havent tried Nakama yet, make plans asap!!!!
I've been going to Nakama since it opened. I love everything about it. The sushi is the best I've ever had. Very fresh and inventive. The Habachi is very flavorful no matter what you order. The environment is trendy and hip. Whenever I have a chance I take friends from out of town or someone from the Pittsburgh area who has never been there. I also enjoy the rewards program they offer. It...
I absolutely loved everything about Nakama. I took my girlfriend there for dinner, and she loved it almost as much as myself. The sushi was fresh, the cook was entertaining, service was prompt, and the atmosphere was lively yet quiet enough to be romantic. The food and service recieved at Nakama was overall excellent, and I would highly reccommend it to anyone, whether you are looking for ente...
Nakama has a great atmosphere and fabulous food. The trendy bar offers a great spot for happy hour drinks, while the restaurant offers the traditional steak house experience. The food is excellent, the service is quick, the chefs are talented and I would recommend this restaurant to anyone. There is something for everyone, whether its going out to get a drink, sushi on a date, or Habachi with t...
The reason I am writing this review is because I was prompted to by the owner of Nakama---however I cannot be "bought" as many of the previous reviewers have mentioned concerning the $10 gift certificate offered for a good review. I will not be looking for any type of monetary "reward" or certificate. I believe that reviews cannot be all good---just like the Steelers can't win every game!

This place is definately my favorite place in Pittsburgh to eat. I recommend it to all of my friends.
I've only been to Nakama once for lunch and it was my first time at a restaurant like this. The food was very good and it was an enjoyable experience. I'm taking my husband there for his birthday this weekend!!
Nakama is not only trendy, but the appetizers are delicious, the staff is ultra-friendly, the drinks yummy! You cannot go wrong stopping here to start your night, or to spend the entire night with friends or a date. Wonderful!
Nakama is awesome!!! I absolutely dream of their Hawaiian rolls. A must try! Wonderful atmosphere. Great food. Highly recommended.
I've been a VIP member of Nakama since they opened; my husband and I shared the best dinner there the night we were engaged; it's our favorite place to hang out when "you gotta get out of the house".
The reason Nakama has so many loyal customers and a BUSY, SUCCESSFUL restaurant is because they have great food, great service and GREAT MARKETING. Don't be disenchanted by a few bad reviews; the r...
I loved everything about the restaurant. The real live grill with lots of fire. The Sushi was to die for. I love eel and as soon as i took a bite of it i thought i was gonna melt.
My boyfriend and I have been going to Nakama for years and have been pretty happen with it. There have been times where I have gotten sick from eating there, but nothing serious. The bill is affordable only if you go during lunch, have a coupon, and order water to drink. Since we have been there more than once, it is quite noticable how inconsistent the quality and amount of food you are given......
Nakama is a great place to have a fun time while eating great food. The location is perfect for all city-dwellers and is definitely not too far from those that live outside the city. The food is great (i've never been disappointed). The service is quick and very efficient. Highly recommened!
I absolutely love Nakama! It is the best place in the area. It's fun to watch the chefs cook the food and it's a wonderful environment to spend with one person or many! Highly recommended.
I'm apalled that people would give up their opinion so easily for a 10.00 gift certificate. You want to save 10 dollars? Eat at Benihana, it might be a chain, but the food beats Nakama's and it's less expensive. I spent one birthday at the restaurant--the food was overpriced, 2 orders at our table were incorrect, and the atmosphere is horribly loud. I won't be going back!
i've been a loyal nakama customer for years now. and, i keep going back for one reason - i love it there. the food is top quality and the atmosphere is fun and sophisticated. sure, sometimes the service has been a little slow - but, come on now, people, their food is made fresh to order. . . the way sushi should be served. if you want to score some sushi on the quick, then go and get the st...
The chefs, managers, servers are all so friendly & talented. My son Timmy & I have been going to Nakama since it 1st opened. We try to eat there a few times a month. They offer a wide range of delicious foods at reasonable prices. We enjoy our experience every time we go! Kudos to chefs: Ron, Tom Chee & Luke!!!!! Awesome cooks! Plus, the quality of food is so outstanding! Can't wait to go...
I have gotten my sister and husband hooked on nakama and they live in Sterling VA so I am here to tell you their food and prices are kickin. I could eat this everyday but I have to work too. This is always a request when my sister is in town.....
My wife and I loved Nakama. The atmosphere is realy nice there including the people and especially the friendly servers. Their tempura shrimp rolls are delicious. I will be back soon to try some thing different on the menu.
The service is absolutely great along with the food. Fresh sushi and amazing filet mignon! It is one of my favorite restaurants in Pittsburgh!
I love this place. The entertainment is excellent! The service is wonderful! I have recommended this steakhouse to all my friends and they have came back to me with complete satisfaction.
Nakama is worth the trip! It dishes out some of the best food in the city and the happy hour scene is hot AND affordable! I contstantly recommend it to out of town friends, vendors, and consultants that our visiting Pittsburgh. If you've never been you don't know what you're missing and you need to stop by immediately. Don't forget to call ahead for reservations.
Nakama should be ashamed. They are buying the good reviews. Do not listen to the raves on this site- they are not pure. Nakama sent a mass email offering $10 to anyone that posted a good review. Look at all the suckers that Namaka bought with $10 for a few simple good words dated 9/18 and 9/19. Honestly, I liked Nakama, but this was a BAD PR move! Although the sushi is good, the place is su...
I am being totally honest - Nakama is the best Japanese in Pittsburgh. It's one of the hottest spots on the South Side. If you're looking for great food, excellent service and a sophisticated vibe, Nakama is it.
Best Hibachi I have ever tasted! Highly rec. the filet. Bartenders very friendly and the atmosphere is great! If you looking for an excellent place to have dinner you have found what you are looking for!
I absolutely love eating at Nakama! It is a wonderful place for special occasions because they accommodate large groups and the customer service is amazing as well as entertaining! I go there every year for my birthday, my boyfriend's birthday and our anniversary! I had signed up for the Nakama online newsletter and receive coupons thru my email account! The food is always fresh and even when it ...
Trying to buy positive reviews buy offering customers a $10 gift certificate is LAME. Shouldn't good food, good service speak for themselves? There are plenty of other great sushi houses in town. I think i'll go to one today and leave an extra $10 for the waiter/waitress. Sorry Nakama, but you lost me.
Other than finding parking (use the valet service if avaliable - so worth it), Nakama is the best Japanese Steakhouse I have been to. I drive 45 minutes to go to Nakama even though there is another one 5 minutes for my house. And if you like sushi...they have the best.
I think the whole $10 certificate thing is being blown out of proportion. It was to serve as an incentive in exchange for validation, evaluation, and an invitation to share a positive experience at the restaurant. Most people are too busy to do this sort of thing so the gift certificate was implemented for motivational purposes. Nothing more!!!! I love Nakama and I visit every chance I get. B...
Great food-great parking-Clean Most other Hibachi restaurants have a baked in old oil smell to them & their food tastes like old oil no matter how tender the steak is-but after 2yrs of me and friends coming to Nakama-still No old oil smell or taste! Love that!!!
Good things: We emailed to make reservations and we sat very promptly. I really liked the email option for reservations. Once the food was brought out, it was good. My specialty drink was very good too.
Bad things: It is VERY loud in the restaurant and you can not hear the people sitting next to you. Our waiter was on the slower side and forogt to bring us the water we requested 2 times. I ord...
My husband and I love this place. It's always the first pick for special occasion dinners. The food is fantastic, the atmosphere is a lot of fun and the portions are more than generous. The bartenders are super friendly and the hibatchi chefs are a real trip. This place ranks among our favorites in the city, not only for the food, but for the experience.
All I know is I used to somewhat enjoy Nakama until the last time I was there. I agree that it is VERY overpriced, but when I was there with my two girlfriends, one of which didn't have a seat and the owner and a few of his friends were at a table in the corner by the bar and there were two empty seats and when we asked if we could have one for my friend to sit down the OWNER said no.... with an...
Nakama is a wonderful resturant that serves the best sushi and japanese food in town. The dining experiance is very relaxing. The chefs cook in front of you and the food is amazing!! You can also choose to sit else where in the resturant where the chef does not cook in front of you. The decsion is yours! I highly recommend you eat at Nakama!!
Nakama is one of the few trendy spots in Pittsburgh. The ambiance is great... very attractive to a young professional crowd. The food is awesome and you always get plenty. I would recommend Nakama to anyone!
Nakama has excellent food, great service, and the cooks are wonderful! They provide entertainment to the table, and my friends and I try to visit Nakama as much as we can whether it is for drinks, dinner, or just a great time!
Nakama is theplace to go if you're craving sushi and want a nice place to go on the South
Side. Contrasted by all the smokey bars and rowdy college places, Nakama is a classy, open place to enjoy a meal.
My boyfriend and I have recently started eating sushi regularly and this was one of the first places we ate it. It was excellent and we have gone to at least 10 different places since then, in Pennsylvania and Florida, and it is still the best that we've had! You must try the Hawaiian rolls, they are awesome!
I really do not even know where to begin - I guess in the order that it always happens. The hostess is always very nice, even though you might have to wait for your table sometimes (the time they tell you always is more then the time we actually wait which is always good), it is WELL worth it. The atmosphere is trendy and Nakama is THE place to be on the South Side. I don't know of another pla...
Nakama is boasts a fun atmosphere, friendly, talented chefs and to-die-for tuna steak. The restaurant is great for dates or just going out with friends. Also, if you're interested in appetizers try the caterpillar roll- cute and tasty!
We have been to Nakama three times now and love it. The tuna and scallops are the best I've ever had. It can be VERY busy on the weekends after about 7:00 so we go early. We also try to get Mike as he is very entertaining.
I got the email too about getting a $10 certificate, but I decided to be honest instead. The last time I was there was in December for my friend's birthday. She had a reservation, and it was an hour and a half after her reservation that we were even seated. It was extremely crowded in the little waiting area, very uncomfortable, and the wait staff was extremely rude to us. I was late to a Chr...
I enjoyed a very nice birthday lunch at Nakama. The service was very prompt, the cook was skilled and entertaining, and the food was very good. It was a nice change of pace from the usual lunch fare. I can't wait to go back with a group of friends!
I absolutely love this place! I went with a huge group of people for my birthday and everyone had a great time. Food was amazing and so fresh. I would recommend the tempora to everyone!
Took friend here for birthday. We had great service and wonderful food. Very friendly and very reasonable prices.
I went to Nakama recently with a group of 10 people to celebrate a birthday. I didn't even make it halfway home without having to pull over. EVERY SINGLE ONE of us got HORRIBLE food poi'son'ing. I called the restaurant the next day and they told me they didn't know what we were talking about, that this never happened before. They barely apologized only after I made it very clear how sick ALL ...
Nakama is of the best restaurants I have ever eaten at before. My husband adn i drive over an hour to ome there because its that good!!! Everyone must try it!!!!
I've eaten at Nakama a few times and every time is great. I am entertained ever time I go there. It is a great place to go for a romantic dinner, out with friends, or a business dinner. Overall, Nakama is a great dining experience and I recommend it to everyone.
These reviews mean nothing!! They are a result of bribes from the owner. If you write a good review you get a $10 coupon!!!!! The food is not authentic Japanese. It's expensive. The "non-smoking" area is smokey because it's right beside the bar with little separation!!
I was reading the reviews, and since the Nakama email with $10 offer for a good review was passed out, there were additional 5 reviews in 10min timeline talking about how great Nakama is. Well, for people that are looking forward to the certificate, just want to say don't get your hopes too high. I, similarly to the guy that posted a negative review, had the experience where I received a certific...
Nakama Japanses Steakhouse is one of the hottest places on Pittsburgh's Southside. Come early or make reservations for this very entertaining meal. Service is fantastic even when the place is crowded - and it does get crowded on weekends, which only positively adds to the atmosphere. Menu offers a wide selection of entrees, sushi, and appetizers that represent the best in Pittsburgh. Keep an ...
Nakama is one of the best Japanese restaurants I have ever been to! They also have some of the best sushi. I would highly recommend Nakama to anyone who is a lover of great food!
Before reading my email today I was planning on celebrating my birthday at Nakama next month. I actually started making plans with friends this weekend. However, you will see that 261 emails were posted today prior to mine. 4 were just as displeased as I however, 257 Pittsburghers have sold their vote for a mere $10. The owner sent an email asking for a good vote and in return she would send ...
AWESOME service.!! the food is outstanding!!! I personally think this is the best place in the city right now to eat. I have yet to have a more positive eating experiance!!! NAKAMA RULES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I can't even count anymore how many times I have been to Nakama! The food is amazing, always fresh, and keeps you coming back for more! The caterpillar roll is s must-have! It's not your traditional Japanese restaurant environment, but that's what makes it so great!
Nakama is the best Hibachi restaurant I have ever been to. I have tried several in the Pittsburgh area, but Nakama tops them all. The service is great and it is definitley kid freindly. I would reccommend it to everyone...
I love Nakama! It is a fun place to go with a large group. It is entertaining to watch the delicious food being cooked. Try it ou!
Great hibachi and sushi, excellent quality and quantity for the price. Can get very busy on Friday and Saturday evenings but well worth the wait.
I have been to Nakama on three occasions, and each time I had a very pleasant experience and excellant food ! We are planning a night out with friends and will probably be going back to Nakama !
I love this place! Never a complaint when I go. Try the Sushi boat, it is to die for. The hibatchi is also great, but you need a take home box.
Everyone I have ever taken there loves it. I recently tried Yokusa at the waterfront. The place was empty and they told us a 45 minute wait. After we tried to leave they sat us at the sushi bar. We sat there for over 20 minutes without a menu or drink, and we finally left. We are sticking to Nakama from now on!
My friends and I love Nakama. The staff is wonderful the chefs are great and the food is amazing. Theres nothing more exciting than watching the highly skilled chef cook your food right in front of you. I can never finish my whole dinner because you get soo much good food. I recommend Nakama to everyone I know and even people I don't know. The VIP program is amazing, they reward all of their cust...
I love Nakama's....the food, the atmosphere, and the overall ambiance is spectular. The chefs are great especially Luke and Miso! In fact, Luke is awesome...we took a family member out for graduation and he treated her like a princess giving her extra attention and putting the biggest smile on her face :-)
Additionally, the service it great...you do not have to wait a long time for your food ...
Nakama is not only a place for great food, but a great place to get drinks with friends or co-workers. The bar drinks are among the best and fanciest in the Southside. I would definitely recommend it as a trendy place to meet for drinks and dinner.
First off, the bar at Nakama has one of the best vibes around. I love to stop in with my sweetie and have a fabulous martini and soak up the atmosphere. It is an excellent place to stop after work or kick off your weekend. On the occasions we've stayed for dinner, we've had wonderful service and scrumptious food--like a Benihana experience with a touch more class and sophistication. Add to that t...
I have eaten numerous times at this restaurant and absolutely loved the food. everything is served warm and fresh. Not only is the food good, but so are the drinks. The weekends are hectic though, so to get the most out of your experience, go at an off time
The food and atmosphere are great at Nakama. The staff is very helpful and nice. The sushi is the best in Pittsburgh. I've eaten sushi throughout the US and Nakama is right up at the top of my list. Thanks for a great time and can't wait to go back!
My boyfriend and I go to Nakama about every 2 weeks. The food is excellent (especially the filet) and our chef has always been friendly and entertaining. The atmosphere is really modern and lively. My friends and I always gather there for birthday's too. I love going there and would recommend it to anyone!!!
We just recently went to Nakama for the first time. And we will be going back again...and often. We sat at the sushi bar and enjoyed our drinks and food. It was the best sushi I have had in Pgh. Amazing! The only other place I would compare it to is a restaurant in Atlanta - MF Sushi. We liked the food so much, we ordered more sushi once we finished our first platter.
I've visited Nakama several times in the past 3 months. They have great service, food, and drinks. I eat sushi a lot, but Nakama has some of the best in the Burgh. I highly recommend visiting this place. They have a very large variety of awesome food at a cheap price!
I give Nakama a 10 out of 10! This was a great experience for my entire family. Great food and lots of it! Nakama gives more than any other Japenese restaurant we have been to.
I have been going to Nakama since it opened a few years ago and it is definitely my favorite Japanese and Sushi restaurant. We have spent birthdays, other special occasions and just nights out there. Even my 5 year old nephew loves it. The one thing I love about Nakama (other than the food) is the early bird specials. It really helps out so that I can go there more often. Also having Valet p...
I am a regular at Nakama. I try to make it there once a week or 1 every two weeks. The employees are friendly and the service is great. Nakama has a great happy hour, with great a great atmosphere. If you are in the 20's and 30's singles scene is a great place to frequent. I am a very big sushi eater therefore I am a big critic, and Nakama's quality is always great. I always recommend this ...
NOT ONLY DO I FEEL THAT NAKAMA HAS EXCELLENT FOOD, THEIR SERVICE AND WELL AS EMPLOYEES ARE ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL.. SOUTH SIDE HAS IT'S UPS AND DOWNS CAUSE I'VE BEEN HERE LONG ENOUGH BUT NAKAMA IS A PLACE TO BE WHERE THERE ARE NO WORRIES ABOUT THE FOOD OR SERVICE. I GO EVERY TUESDAY AND SOMETIMES TWICE A WEEK. I CAN'T GET ENOUGH OF NAKAMA!!!!!!
From the time we arrived until we left, we were amazed at the energetic atmosphere, the entertaining chef, and the very helpful staff. I never knew that dinner could be so fun. We will go back for the great food and wonderful feeling this place gives off. The cost was very fair and maybe even a little low as for the value we got. You definitely have to try this place, as I know you will be ho...
Nakama is a wonderful Japanese restaurant with the best sushi i have ever had! the workers are very friendly and the atmosphere is very classy and wonderful. Nakama is alot of my friends and I favorite restaurant in Pittsburgh and we come here often.
I recently ate at Nakama and it was one of the best dinners I have had for months. The food is amazing, the prices are low especially for the amount of food you get!!! The atmosphere is wonderful because everybody is so funny and the chefs are very entertaining. It is now mine and my girlfriends favorite Japanese Steakhouse!!! I would Highly Recommend this restaraunt to anyone!
My husband and I treat ourselves to Nakama anytime we want to celebrate. The sushi and appetizers are excellent and the service is great. Nakama is a nice stop for Happy Hour on a summer evening and a cozy setting for a snowy winter night. It's one of our favorite places to eat in Pittsburgh!
Great sushi! Order the "boat" of you have a lot of people, and time. The window seats are the perfect place to see and be seen, too.
Just an FYI, Nakama recently sent out an email to its mailing list offering a gift certificate in exchange for writing a good review on this site. Sites like this only work if they contain honest opinions. I think this blatant manipulation of the system is completely unacceptable. Below is the content of the message....

WE had a great meal at Nakama. It works out so great because there is such a variety on the menu. So I can have sushi and my boyfriend can eat what ever he likes.
I can't think of a better happy hour...the people, food and drink all are great. We met more fun and interesting people in one night than we have in months. We will be part of the regular Friday night happy hour crowd.
I was fortunate to be taken to Nakama for my b-day and had the surprise party arranged by my husbands and friends. The experience was wonderful. What stood out for me was the sushi. I eat sushi in many different states and I have to say that this is the best sushi that I have ever had. Everyone loved their meals and the b-day celebration was great.
I look forward to returning and trying even ...
I have been to Nakama 5 times and will continue to go back. The food is very good and I like the happy hour crowd (mostly younger professionals). The only advice I have is, if you are going in a large group, or going with any number of people on the weekend, make reservations because it is typically crowded.
Nakama was a great experience, especially for our 1st wedding anniversary. The chef was amazing and fun to watch, the food was excellent and extremely well priced and the drinks were out of this world. We have been to several sushi restaurants in the Pittsburgh area and Nakama is definately the best!! I would highly recommend Nakama to anyone looking to celebrate any occasion. We are repeat custo...
My family and I (9 adults and 5 children)visited on a Sunday evening following a Steeler game and were very pleased. The waitstaff and chef were extremly firndly and family oriented. The food was outstanding and the prices were very reasonable.
I would definitely recommend this establishment to anyone looking for EXCELLENT meal and a GREAT time.
My boyfriend and I are avid Nakama goers! We love the food and the atmosphere. If you go a lot be sure to join the VIP club. It's free and rewarding! Nakama is a must for sushi lovers! Also, you can't beat the lunch specials!
I had my first sushi experience at Nakama and I was pleasantly surprised. The waitress was kind enough to recommend the items she felt would give be perfert for my first taste. The dinner was very good and the portions were more generous than other Japanese restaurants that I've been too. What I liked most was the mix of crowd there. There were families, people on dates and groups of friends....
Nakama is the best Japanese steakhouse I have ever been to. Their service is above and beyond and the food is mouthwatering. You will never leave Nakama hungry -- excellent!!
We love Nakama, and believe that their sushi is the best in Pittsburgh. Even better, we enjoy sitting at the bar for Happy Hour - the staff is friendly, they have a great drink menu - and you can't pass up the Happy Hour specials. The seared ahi tuna is phenomenal ... and half price during Happy Hour! You can also enjoy a great view of the happenin' Carlton scene.
Had dinner there for a group of 8 about a month ago; what a great experience from the servie to the food choices and quality. Will be back many times.
Prices are VERY reasonable for the quality of the sushi you recieve. I definitely would suggest sampling the Nakama Roll along side one of the signature martini's from the martini menu (also one of the best I have seen in Pitt - very creative). Highly reccomended to anyone from families to dates!
If you are looking for a great dining experience you have to try Nakama. The atmosphere is second only to the quality of the food. The south side is fortunate to have such a quality restaurant in its center.
When you go to Nakama, you go for the experience - it's like none other in the city. I love the atmosphere, and the staff is very attentive. Overall, it's always a fun night out with friends when we dine there. And, to top it off, I never even like Japanese food until I tried it there!
I LOVE Nakama! I have been there many times and can't get enough. I was just there this week and had anoter tremendous dining experience. The food, the staff, and the atmosphere are superb. the fillet is the best that I have had anywhere and the lobster tail is incredible. Also you can't go wrong with the sesame chicken. The shrimp sauce is wonderful on the fried rice. If you are looking f...
Nakama is by far the best Japanese Steakhouse I have ever been to. The food is excellent and the service is friendly and quick! This is the resturant I pick on special occasions like birthdays and anniversarys!! I promise if you go to Nakama you will NOT be disappointed!!
I have been to Nakama on several occasions. Once with my children. I have never had a bad experience. In fact, my children loved it so much that if they had their way we would eat there everyday! The staff is very friendly & the cooks are wonderful. It was a wonderful experience. If you are in the SouthSide area, you should stop by and give Nakama a try. It is an experience like no other!!...
my friends and I make it a point to eat at nakama as much as we can. The food is great and so is the atmosphere! I must say this is my favorite restaurant around!
I have always enjoyed my visits to Nakama. The food is very reasonably priced- meals, appetizers, and sushi; and Nakama continously gives out freebies for mother's/father's day, birthday's etc... plus the points reward card to get free meals are just that--free meals. I have no problem abiding by their rules on how I use the point gift. cert. since they are free! It is not authentic but it does...
I love this place -- it is difficult to choose appetizers as they are all fabulous - freshly made and arrive HOT ! Servers remember me and as I always ask for extra " pink sauce " - they remember that too. Try the Seafood Tempura - portion is so large you need to take some home or share it. Sushi is fabulous - first rate and I know my sushi.
One extra plus - after a long day at work & fee...
we go to your restaurant a few times a month. although all of your food is exceptional, we especially enjoy your sushi bar. The sushi is always fresh and the chefs are very friendly. The atmosphere is always good, with plenty of people to talk with and just hang out.
Nakama, located in the SouthSide of the city isn't your ordinary Japanese Steak House. It is a bustling establishment every night of the week with a crowd covering every social and age spectrum showing that Nakama really does appeal to everyone. The food is excellant, the presentation is aweing, and the staff is courteous, even during the busiest times. Whether it is for an intimate meal with ...
Nakama has the best sushi that I've had in Pittsburgh. The Hawaiian and Hanalei rolls are to die for. I've had some similar rolls around here but nothing compares to the freshness at Nakama. Nakama also beats some of the best Sushi restaurants in Miami. The sushi chefs are wonderful!!
Five stars!!!
This restaurant is my favorite when I travel into the city. If you want to eat there on the weekends (or on a busy week night), be sure to have a reservation. There's a wide selection of hibachi and sushi. They have food for every kind of eater. Parking is always hard to find on the South Side, so be prepared to drive around a bit (if the valet is full).
There was a group of 18 of us for dinner and everyone said the food and the service was excellent! I would recommend this restaurant to eveyone and have!
Everytime I go to Nakama, my friends and I have the best time! We love the atmosphere and the food is phenomonal! Our favorite appitizer is the Yakitori and we love the hot waiters too! If you're looking for great food in Pittsburgh, this is where you should go!
Nakama is a great place for some after work, evening, or weekend gathering with friends. The sushi is delicious, the atmopshere and decor of the place is very metropolitan, and the overall enviornment is perfect for young and old alike.
Highly recommend this carson st. hot spot!
Nakama is by far the best spot for sushi that I have found in the city. It has a great atmpsophere for casual city dining. Prompt service, friendly, and reasonably priced!!
Highly recommend the key lime pie martini
I used to live across the street from Nakama, and became totally addicted to the great drinks, great food, and awesome service. I've never been in the dining room, but the bar is a great place to eat, chat & people-watch. That being said, it's really hard to get in there at conventional happy-hour/evening times. Best times are in the afternoons for weekends; you get better/quicker service, can...
Look, quite simply, this is a top place to eat in Pittsburgh. Our server was outstanding. I had so many questions and she was right there to help with each one despite being very busy. The show was fascinating to watch and the food was just incredible. I thought I wasn't big on this style, but my shrimp was delicious, my steak was perfect and the rice was flawless. We also got an appetizer o...
I just wanted to say how wonderful your restaurant is. I have only been there once and can not wait to dine there again. I was very impressed with your food. Also the cooks were wonderful and entertaining. Your sauces that you make are absolutley divine.
It has been the first time in a long time that I had a steak and didn't need to use A1 sauce because the flavoring was exquisite.
I can't wa...
4 of my coworkers/friends headed to Nakama after work to have a drink and dinner. When we arrived we were informed that from 4 - 6 they had a happy hour and we were SO impressed with the discounts! They had drinks, appitizers, soups and salads all half price! We ordered various dishes of sushi and had a such a great time sampling the appitizers and drinks! We ended up staying much longer then ...
Nakama has a great atmosphere and fabulous food. The upscale bar offers a great spot for happy hour drinks, while the restaurant offers the traditional steak house experience. Either way Nakama is a place worth checking out!
This restaurant has great hibachi and a sushi bar with lots of variety. Come here on an empty stomach and you will be very pleased.
My husband and I eat at Nakama frequently, and I have never had a bad experience there. The food is all very good (especially the filet!), and the sushi is excellent. There is usually a long wait, and not always enough room to comfortably wait in the bar or sushi bar, so try to go during off hours or make reservations pretty far in advance. It is also somewhat loud, so maybe not the place fo...
I've been to the Nakama several times and each time i am pleasantly surprised with the quality of food which was preceded by service of which you have to experience to believe. Great bartenders which know their drinks and are always very courteous. Parking has never been a problem either, a block away there is a lot of which i never had a problem getting a spot.
Again i truly recommend you at ...
Nakama is one of the best Japanese restaurants in the city. The service is always great and the price is affordable for how excellent the food is!
Nakama is my absolute favorite place to eat. The service is great. The chefs are very personable and entertaining!!! Most of all, the food is incredible!!! Always a pleasurable experience. Always looking forward to going back!!!!!
Nakama has always treated me and my friends with great friendly service. we usually go down for happy hour on friday nights to get some sushi hen head of to diesel for some more drinks. while at nakama we always are treated well and taken care of. people are friendly and out going and remember you when they see you. the food is always great. and never experienced a problem there. use people have...
I am a devoted Nakama customer, and I can not say enough about how fabulous this restaurant is. I try to make it there at least once every couple weeks. Not only is the food amazing, but it could feed anyone. I have never seen someone leave this restaurant hungry. This is a great place to go with a bunch of friends and just have fun!! Nakama also has a great rewards program which is always se...
I am a big fan of Japanese Restaurants and I have been to everyone in Pittsburgh. Nakama is by far the best. The service is excellent, the cooks put on an incredible show, the portions are huge and the atmosphere is amazing. I try to make it to Nakama at least twice a month, if not more. You will not be disappointed. Everything about Nakama is Wonderful!
great sushi, always a fun atmosphere. definitely go during happy hour - great deals, always lots of people, good drink selection.
Every time I've visited, we have had a fabulous meal, excellent and entertaining service, as well as a wide menu selection to satisfy all! The atmosphere is fun, energetic and happening. Additionally, the email newsletters and updates that offer specials, newsy material, birthday dinners, etc. make this restaurant really stand out. I would recommend dining at Nakama to anyone!
Bob's triple Combo is worth a visit to the South Side. It is reasonably price tfor the quality/quantity of food that you get. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. Very good food with a professional type ambiance. I will definitely be a loyal customer for years to come.
My co-workers and I visit Nakama at least once a month for their outstanding lunch menu. What a great value... you can get a whole meal (ex: soup, side & entree w. rice) for practically nothing. And it's all served up right in front of you on the hibachi grill. I've never had a bad meal yet. Looking forward to checking it out for dinner soon.
My friends and I try to get to Nakama's at least once a month. We have found that the atmosphere allows us to have so much fun. We can laugh and talk loud and be entertained by the chefs. Not to mention that the food is great. The portion sizes are huge which means you have plenty left over for lunch the next day. My favorite is Bob's Triple Combination. And if you join the mailing list (or club)...
You wont find better sushi in the city- or martinis. The sexpotini is my favorite! Their ahi tuna is out of this world too! When you walk in to Nakama you'll forget that you are in Pittsburgh- you'll thin you're somewhere like NYC or Miami--you wont find an atmosphere like this anywhere else in the 'burgh!
I have been to many "top" restaurants and none can compare with Nakama. The food is great, the service is great and there is a nice atmosphere. I drive 35 miles to get there and its worth it!
I recently went for my freinds birthday. the food was excellent....great portions. the service and atmospere was great. im am eager to return in the near future to try the sushi bar this time
Nakama is the restaurant I alway's visit when in Pittsburgh because it is exciting, the sushi is not only delicious but artful, like the Hawaian Roll, and the hibachi dinners are fun. The service is fantastic with attention to detail and smiling faces. I live in Northern Virginia about 40 miles from Washington, D.C. Besides being near the nation's capital, we have fantastic restaurants. Nak...
Nakama has the best social scene in the 'Burgh as evidenced by the long line of people waiting to be seated not only during the weekend but the weekdays as well. The Hibachi grill is excellent. The diver scallops are tender and reasonably priced. My husband, who is usually very picky about trying new places, loves the food as well as the atmosphere. I have to say that the bartenders make the ...
This Japanese steakhouse is great. The food is excellent. The service is quick, and the chef are talented. I will continue to recommend this restaurant to friends.
I've eaten at every Japanese Steakhouse in Pittsburgh. Nakama is the Best. Their food is consistent and their chefs are always very skilled and entertaining. The wait staff caters to your every need throughout the meal (this is where most other Japanese Steak Houses fall flat, they usually meat you, seat you, and after providing your beverage choices, you scarcely see them until they present y...
One has to wait hours to get in but its worth it as the food is great, esp. the sushi. We drove 7 hours from Louisville, KY to get there at 9"30 pm on a Friday night and had to wait over an hour to get in, but it was delightful. We were enroute to Baltimore, MD. On our return two weeks later, we drove an extra 100 miles to return to Pittsburgh for a late lunch at Nakama's and were delighted wi...
Nakama is all around a wonderful experience, not only does it have some of the best food in all of the city of Pittsburgh, it has some of the best atmosphere and entertainment around. The sushi bar is incredible! There is something for everyone, whether its going out to get a drink with the girls, sushi on a date or Habachi with the family, Nakama is absolutely wonderful.
this is a great place to take a date or a just a great place to pregame before you go out to the bars. The food and drinks are great
I enjoyed watching the chef prepare my meal, along with the interaction between the chef and the customers.
My boyfriend and I have been to Nakama several times and every time we have had a great experience. We try to go in big groups but it is a great experience either way, by ourselves or with a bunch of friends. The food is excellent and you will never leave hungry!
Don't trust all the good reviews. Nakama is offering a $10 coupon to anyone who writes a good restaurant review on this site. If that is not out and out bribery, I don't know what is.
That said, I do enjoy the food there but it can get quite crowded, esp. on weekends. Don't even think of showing up unanounced on a Friday or Saturday night unless you are prepared for a 2 hour wait.
I have been coming to Nakama since it opened. My boyfriend and I had our first date there at the sushi bar and continue to celebrate monthly (or as often as we can) only at Nakama. When we go out to dinner...we go to Nakama. The hibachi is wonderful, the sushi is awesome, atmosphere is chic, and the people are sweet. There is no other place I would rather spend my money than Nakama. Most of ...
I have eaten at Nakoma a number of times and have hung at the bar area with my friends. The food in unbelievable and it is also fairly reasonably priced for the amount of food you get. The bar area is a nice place to hang out with your friends and drink an assortment of delicious martinis. The atmosphere is great to relax after a hard day at work. Overall I think Nakoma is a great addition to S...
We had never been to Nakama and I made reservations online for my husbands birthday. We arrived 45 minutes early and were seated right away. After our salad, the chef came over to cook and the grill was not ready to cook our table's order. The waiter took it upon himself to talk to the manager and we were given a discount on our bill for only waiting an extra 10 minutes. We then in turn gave ...
Nakama is by far my most favorite place to go to eat.
I've had sushi at other restaraunts such as Sushi Two, Yokoso, and Fish Market and they do not compare to Nakama. I met a guy at Nakama once who said that he travels all over the world, including Japan and he stated that Nakama has better sushi than anywhere!!!
The bartenders are very friendly too.
The VIP program that Nakama offers is ver...
I recently had dinner at Nakama. The service was awesome. I'ts a great place to take your first date.
My husband and I love Nakama - it's not the "tacky" atmosphere my mind conjures up when I think of a Japanese Steakhouse. I love coming here with friends - it's a great place to cut loose and have a fun time - not stuffy.
This weekend my husband and I came alone for the first time and sat at the sushi bar. It was warm and intimate. We had a fabulous time - feels like a New York scene - no...
My wife and I recently visited Nakama and loved it. I had a great selection of sushi including Avocado noki and tuna rolls which were perfect. We then ate at the Hibachi and had a wonderful time watching them cook our food. Overall it we both had a great time.
Loved the atmosphere. My husband and I ate there for our 2nd anniversary and we really enjoyed the whole experience. The food was delicious--similar to many other cook-the-food-in-front-of-you Japanese restaurants, but the atmosphere of this restaurant set it apart from the rest.
I've eaten at Nakama several times and the only problem I've ever experienced was not being able to go enough! The food was absolutely delicious. I especially recommend the seafood diablo. It's my favorite. The food is well priced and the portions are large. Every chef I've had has been friendly and entertaining, and the waitresses were always polite and courteous. The service was fast and accura...
A great place for sushi. I sat in the bar area and Stephanie, the bartender, took excellent care of us. I met some friends for lunch, it was busy but not crowded. The appetizers were great and the sashimi platter was top notch. Very fresh and very yummy. I recommend Nakama to all of my friends.
I am new to the city and a few friends took me to Nakama. It was the first time I had been to this type of restaurant and I had a great time. We had to wait 45 minutes for a table (so i suggest reservations), but it was definately worth the wait. The food was delicious, the show the chef put on was really fun to watch, and the atmosphere was really neat. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyo...
This may be the hottest spot in the city and with good reason. This restaurant has it all. Whether you like sushi or the Japanese steakhouse fare you will be more than satisfied with the quality of the production on your plate and palate. The attention to detail that goes into everything they make whether it be food or drink cannot be understated. It is a great place to take a date or a group o...
Whenever I have visitors to Pittsburgh I always take them to Nakama. We went last night and had a great time. It was Sunday night and the cook was running behind. To make up for the wait the waitress bought our table a round of drinks on the house. When the chef did arrive he was very friendly and talked with my guests about their trip and impressions of Pittsburgh. Everyone loved the food a...
I have been to Nakama many times, with family, co-workers and friends. The birthday celebrations are great. The service has always been excellent. I have eaten in the dinning room and at the bar. I especially love the beef tips. I would deffinetly recommend this resturant to anyone.
This is one of the best places in Pittsburgh to go celebrate a birthday or any special occasion. Nakama has wonderful food and atmosphere. I have been there at least 10 times and it is one of our favorite places to go have fun, drink and eat.
Nakama is awsome! My whole entire family and all of my friends enjoy eating here. We mainly go for the sushi, I've even taken my boyfriend who hates sushi to try to persuade him otherwise, and it worked! We've been coming here for the past couple years and will continue to do so. It has a wonderful atmosphere which is great for hanging out with friends on the weekend or celebrating with family. T...
I've never had a negative experience at Nakama. The waitpeople are friendly and the crowd is always a good one. You have to try the green noodles appetizer--it's one of the best appetizers I've ever had.
Nakama has been a favorite of my family and co-workers over the last year. We have visited for lunch, and special dinners. The wait-staff has been courteous and accomodating to adults and children in the party. Our chef, except on 2 out of 10 occassions was energetic, funny and entertaining making the dining experience worthy of frequent encores. We will opt to return whenever possible!!!
I've been a loyal customer at Nakama for several years now, and I don't think there's a better place in the city to entertain friends or family. Always a "happening" spot on the weekends...but never too busy to accomodate if you plan your reservations at least a day or 2 in advance. I've even got a favorite chef, Luke...but all the chefs are very experienced and very entertaining. Steak & vegg...
We went with about 12 people one night and had a blast. Started out with a couple drinks at the bar, while being entertained by a magician. His card tricks were amazing. We were seated quickly, which was nice because we only had reservations for 7 people, but slowly added more as the night went on. THe check was great. We asked him to do the volcano with an onion and he knew exactly what we ...
I love NAKAMA! Fantastic food and a great place to eat. I highly recommend making reservations very early in the week because everyone is at NAKAMA during the weekends! Waitstaff is very friendly and attentive. My husband and I went for our 2nd Anniversary and had such a great time!
I recently ate at Nakama, and the service was outstanding. The sushi was to die for and I will definately be returning soon!
I am a vegetarian, and LOVE LOVE LOVE it there - they went out of their way to make sure my tofu didn't touch any meat - even though i didn't ask them to do that! they make everything quickly, the food is amazing - everyone needs to try this place, they will love it.
Wonderful restuarants. Splendid atmosphere with food being cooked in front of you. Waiters are excellent and food is incredibly delicious.
I live nearby to Nakama and frequent regularly. The atmosphere, food, and people are top notch! This is the best Japanese Steakhouse in the area, and the food is always cooked perfectly! The filet is amazing, and the sushi is some of the best in Pittsburgh. Make sure to make reservations on a weekend, cuz it's always hopping at Nakama!!!
Nakama is the best restuarant in Pittsburgh!! I have eaten there several times and have had the best service and food each and every time. The serving staff and cooks are friendly, attentive and informative and the food is out of this world. The menu has something for everyone...even vegetarians! I highly recommend Nakama!
I heard about Nakama through a friend, and because I am an avid sushi lover I couldn't wait to try it. I have tried sushi throughout the United States, and (I make it a point to wherever I go), and Pittsburgh's Nakama definitely takes the cake! They have an amazing variety of sushi, as well as a yummy drink menu (My personal fav is the Cosmo). The past two times I have visited I ordered a roll an...
I admit, I am writing this for the $10 gift certificate. However Nakama gets my dinner dollars anyway so I am happy to be able to save a few dollars eating at one of my favorite restaurants. I have never visited this site before, so I am glad to write a review based on my experiences. I am not prone to dining out alot but Nakama is one place that I truly love. I have eaten at the restaurant m...
I've been introducing LOTS of out-of-towners to Nakama. I'll take any excuse to go there for the delicious fresh sushi and martinis. :) Aside from the sushi Nakama always delivers a wonderful atmosphere where you can enjoy great conversation with friends and often strangers you dine with. The food is delicious and more than generous portions!
Nakama is by far my very favorite restaurant. The atmosphere is inviting, trendy in the bar area, and a little more subdued in the hibachi dining section of the restaurant. The chefs are both skilled and entertaining. It is truly a unique experience every time I go to the restaurant as I have always been treated to a savory meal and a creative show with food and fire on the side. The bartend...
Nakama is definitely the place to go if you want to have fun, delicious food (i recommend the Kobe beef and any of their sushi), and yummy drinks (I highly recommend the sexpotini). Ive never had a bad time at Nakama - its always great fun with your friends and even with the people you get to meet at your table. Although its always busy - that just adds to the atmosphere! The bar is always a grea...
I have been to Nakama on numerous occasions and always recommend it to anyone looking for a great place to eat. The food is delicious, the show is exciting, and the atmosphere is always fun. I have never had a bad experience at this restaurant and look forward to enjoying it for many meals to come.
Nakama is my first experience with sushi and I absolutely love it! My frineds go to Nakama 2-3 times a month and I always have a great time there. The food is fantastic and the service is wonderful. I never leave there unsatisfied.
We recently were in a party of 35 that ate at Nakamas in there enclosed party room of the restaurant. The food was wonderful and the service was very efficient. I will definately be making plans to get more groups to go there for dinner and a night out!
I have gone to Nakama on 2 occasions with my boyfriend. Both times we were greatly impressed with the service and food. I ate at the Hibachi grill and the food was excellent and the show that the server did made the dining experience that much more enjoyable. Everything is cooked to order right in front of your face which makes Nakama a great place to order steak from. I had other people tell...
I LOVE Nakama's atmosphere, friendly service, excellent ginger salad and sesame chicken, not to mention the chef's putting on an entertaining performance/presentation!!
I would recomment this restaurant to anyone!
One of my favorite places to go in Pittsburgh for happy hour. I love the variety of appetizers and they are 1/2 off. Can't beat it. I would recommend the beef tips and lettuce wraps. So great! And one of my favorite drinks, Plumy Yummy!
I have been to Nakama twice. My Fiancee enjoys the Hibachi while I enjoy the Sushi. Nakama has a great atmosphere. The chefs are funny and entertaining. It is my favorite place for Sushi. I can't wait to go back again.
great sushi and dinners, very nice employees that remember you, loyalty program keeps me coming back!!!
My first experience at Nakama was on my birthday a couple years back. We were seated right away and the food was to die for! The chef's are amazing. My fiance and I soon went back, but just for sushi this time and we became a VIP members. Nakama's sushi is like none other. I have eaten at Nakama on over a dozen occasions, including having my work Christmas party there; everytime, I have experienc...
I've heard great things about Nakama and passed it frequently on my visits to Pittsburgh. My girlfriend, who now resides in Pittsburgh, wanted to go there one day and I agreed we should give it a shot. It so happened to be April fools day and our Chef got played tricks on by the other chef's (he had his eggs replaced, his bottles were filled with other liquids, etc etc). At the expense of his emb...
I have been to Nakama several times and have always had a wonderful experience. The wait staff is pleasant and attentive, the chefs are amazing, and the food is always great! The sushi is some of the freshest I've ever had. The atmosphere is very vibrant and there always seems to be a crowd at the bar and for dinner. Nakama is a must for anyone who likes sushi or habachi dining!
Wonderful food, service and atmosphere !!!
This was a great experience. The food could not have been better and the service was great as well. We have been to several other Japanese restaurants and Nakama is by far the best !!! I took my mother in law. Need I say more.
I've been dinning at Nakama since their opening and it just keeps getting better! The atmosphere is great, the wait staff is helpful, the chefs are entertaining and the food is always wonderful! I recommend it all my friends!
Nakama is a great place for happy hour any day of the week. The atmosphere, food and service all make for a great evening on the southside.
I luv this place! The food is terrific, always fresh. The service is as quick as can be expected from a popular restaurant that is always crowded! You will always see someone you know there which makes it pretty fun. The bartenders also make the best cosmos around! Do you know what a pain it is to try to explain how to make a cosmo?? Never had to at Nakama. We usually go about 3 times a month o...
My friends and I will find any excuse we can to go to Nakama (seriously, for a while we were there 2-3 times a week earlier this year - we couldn't get enough of the shrimp sauce on fried rice). I continue to go at least once a month. The food is always excellent, our chef is always entertaining and the lemon-tinis are the greatest. I've taken my parents, friends from out of state, as well as ...
My family and I dined at Nakama a few months ago for a birthday dinner. The sushi and food were excellent, especially the scallops, we were seated right at our reservation time, and had a wonderful dining experience. The food is much better than other area Japanese restaurants. We can not wait to return again.
This is the go to stop for my group of friends for anyone's birthday!! Festive mood fills the place. Trendy but not over the top. And who wouldn't want sake bombs on their birthday???
I love eating here! My roommates and I come here for birthday dinners and for the lunch specials. The food is great and the chefs are so fun to watch! Great for dates or girls night out.
Nakama is by far one of the best Japanese steakhouses I have ever been to! The spicy tuna rolls and the Scallops are to die for! I have never had a problem with them honoring reservations, incorrectly placing my order or having to wait for long periods of time. The service is always supurb and the chefs entertaining! I choose Nakama for all of my special occassion dinners and am never disappo...
Regarding the email we received to write a review, I have to say that I can not be bought with $10, so for anyone to think that I would lie in a review to receive $10, give me a break. Nakama does have the best sushi in town in terms of consistency, quality, taste, and freshness. It is fairly priced. The bartenders are some of the best in town. They work their rearends off and always have a g...
I've eaten in the most exclusive and exquisite sushi bars from LA to NY. Upon moving to the Southside, I shuttered at the thought of sushi in Pittsburgh! And then came Nakama. Thank goodness. The wonderful fresh scallops and sweet shrimp...the perfection and artistry of the chefs. Yum yum! They make a rose from my tuna and fancy my crab with it. But the freshness and taste doesn't have to be dres...
My family and I love Japanese Restaurants! When we heard Nakama was coming to South Side we were so excited. As soon as it opened we made reservations to go and, I must say, Nakama exceeded our expectations by far. The food is execellent and the service was wonderful! For every special occasion my 10-year old son picks Nakama to celebrate. (Birthdays, good report cards, or just to have some ...
Nakama has the best food and customer expirience on the southside. Not only will you have great food for lunch or dinner, but you will have a great time watching it be prepared. Prices are also reasonable and portions are large. Don't miss an opportunity to eat at Nakama.
My wife and I have lived all across the country and love to dine out. When we moved back to Pittsburgh, one of the things we were most excited about was that we would be close to Nakama. This is always the first choice of our kids when we ask them were they want to go. The service is awesome, the food spectacular and the chef's performances are second to none! We'll be back this week for our ...
Nakama has great prices for japanese food and the quality can't be beat. All of sushi is expensive. I've been to Yokoso in the Waterfront and their prices are even higher. So if you're in the mood for a good price Japanese food Nakama is your best bet. They give out a lot of coupons and incentitives for being a member. Yokoso doesn't do that. The last time I was at Nakama, I forgot my purse...
I've been eating at Nakama since the first day the doors opened. It's the best sushi in Pittsburgh -- I've tried them all. Not only is the food great, but the service is terrific too!
It's a great place to hang out and people watch. There's alway a crowd at Nakama --- they must be doing something right!!
Nakama is great for a night out or a large group going out to dinner. Reservations are taken for large groups. The sushi is fantastic, tha Hanlei roll is our favorite! The service is always great, everyone is friendly. Lunch service is quick and the food is just as good as it is for dinner. The hibatchi dinners are kid friendly and great place to celebrate birthday's!
Nakama is an amazing restaurant...not only that, it is an experience like none other. The food is great and it is extremely entertaining to have all of the food cooked in front of you. I would recommend it to anyone. This include family, dating couples, friends, and especially birthdays. It is a lot of fun if you get a large group of ppl together and go. GO THERE!!!
I've been to Nakama several times and have yet to have a bad experience. The food is fresh and flavorful. The Sushi is delicious and aesthetically pleasing. The staff was courteous and prompt.
Nakama is one of my all-time favorite places. When I take friends there for the first time, they rave. No other Japanese steakhouse that I have been to has food as excellent as Nakama's. If you're planning on going there for dinner it is always best to make a reservation and allow time to find parking, but other than that the food is to die for and the atmosphere is great.
Great atmosphere with promt and friendly service. Certainly one of a kind. My personal favorite place to dine in Pittsburgh.
Nakama is the best Hot spot in town to meet people and enjoy great dining!! The atmosphere is wonderful - the food superb - the location perfect - it really has it all!!! It is a must try for all Pittsburgher's and a great place to bring out of town visitors to showcase our great city!!!
Nakama is one of my favorite Japanese spots in Pittsburgh. Their Halaki Roll is AMAZING and they have great lunches, too!
I have been to Nakama many times, with family, co-workers and friends. Every time I go there the service and food has been excellant!!! Stephanie the bartender takes very good care of all the customers in the bar area. I have also sat in the dining rooom and never have had a bad meal, server, or chef. It is a delicious dining experience. My boys 16 & 21 insist I bring them home take-out when...
My boyfriend and I went to Nakama with another couple of friends of ours. We made reservation and although we did have to wait a few minutes for our table, there was a magician there to entertain us and we just loved him! I had sushi for the first time and I loved it! But we also had a dinner prepared by the chef right in front of us and it was delicious! I can't wait to go back again.
What a great night spot for some fantastic japanese food! entertaining enough for family and classy enough for dates!
This is a great restaurant for lunch. You are in and out quick and still get great quality food! Worth every penny!!
Nakama is an excellent resteraunt I have never had a bad meal there. Definetly the best sushi in Pittsburgh
I have always had a great experience at Nakama...my friends and I usually eat at the bar or sushi bar, buy a bottle of wine and enjoy the food. The prices are reasonable and the bartenders know us on a first name basis....a definite good time!!! We love the shrimp tempura and the dipping sauce....
Nakama is one of the most trendy restaurants on the South Side. Nakama is very versatile as it is a great atmosphere for many occasions. It has a perfect atmosphere for a cocktail after work, and the best sushi bar I've experienced. In addition, it is a great place to celebrate special occasions, just be sure to reserve the private room because the main dining room is a bit loud for a large gr...
lets start with the valet parking. it's great, because i don't have to drive around looking for a parking spot, blocks away. food has always been exceptional. the staff have always been very nice. the only problem we have is when we are just there to eat sushi, all the tables are being used by customers just waiting around to get seated in the dinning room. and that there were bigger tables so...
I am a frequent visitor to Nakama for both personal and work functions... when I got pregnant, I thought no more of those great martinis and no more sushi.... Why go to Nakama now? .. BUT, I still love it --- The atmosphere, the non-raw items of sushi, and the non-alcoholic fruity drinks make up for all of it.... I can't wait to have Sushi and a martini again ( In fact, I am bribing my friends t...
My fiance raves about sushi, but I had never tried it. We went to Nakama on the South Side and now I am a sushi fan! I tried a couple different dishes and was blown away. Everything was so fresh and the presentation was beautiful. The service was wonderful and the atmosphere was clean, zen-like, and relaxing. I've been back several times since my first sushi experience and have never been dis...
A great place for dinner or even just to have drinks at the bar. Always a fun crowd. Dinner at Nakama is truly a great dining experience!
As a Parent of three young children me and my husband find it hard to find a restaurant where we can enjoy our meal as well as our children. We prefer our kids eat healthy and not the typical hot dog, chicken fingers, grilled cheese everyone else offers for kids meals. They also stay very entertained thru Dinner and it allows me and my husband to enjoy ours. My kids love Nakama and it is their to...
Some of the best sushi you'll find in the city and the dinners are always great. Thursday nights at Nakama is beat by very few others in the city.
Nakama is one of the best Japanese restaurants I have ever been to! I went with my boyfriend my brother and my Mom and we all loved it. My brother especially loves the ahi tuna so me and my boyfriend tried it and its delicious. We will definately be coming back for more!
The food at Nakama is delicious! I enjoy it more than some of the other Japanese Steakhouses around the Pittsburgh area. The atmosphere is fun, the food is great and it's a wonderful place to meet friends and have a great time. I highly recommend Nakama to anyone who enjoys this type of cuisine.
I frequent Nakama's at least once a week. The food is tremendous, excellent customer service, and trendy atmosphere. I LOVE IT!!! I mainly go for the Sushi and I havent had any problems. It melts in my mouth! As a frequent customer, I receive many benefits, coupons and discounts. Its my favorite place in the South Side.
My husband and I had date night every other thursday before our daughter was born. Now we have family date night, we love the sushi and atmosphere ( and the saketinis don't hurt) and our 4 year old loves to eat with chopsticks and watch the chef prepare her dinner. The hibachi is fabulous, the service well timed, the sushi is by far the best in the "burgh" and the fun we have is a family is pr...
Nakama has a very classy atmosphere with excellent Japanese cuisine. Watching the cooks perform tricks as well as cook is also an extra perk. Service is also great. Nakama is a great place to eat whether you're on a date, or with a group.
Recently one of my friends was celebrating their 30th birthday. To start the evening off right, we headed to Nakama. After spending quite some time at the bar, we move to a table where we had the best service and the best chef. The evening was lively and fun. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a great time.
I recently took my family in from out of town to Nakama - i was there recently for some cocktails and people there were raving about the atmosphere and the quality of the food. We were seated together for a hibachi-sytle meal, and enjoyed the table commentary by the chef that prepared our meals. Everyone got something a little different, and we enjoyed sharing our different dishes with each oth...
I have been to Nakama once with a group and had a fun experience. The food was decent, and the chef was entertaining. The server, although somewhat neglectful, was pleasant enough. I had planned on returning again soon and would have recommended Nakama to anyone until I also received the email offering $10 for a positive review. I have 10 years of serving experience and am extremely displease...
I have been to Nakama several times now, and I have enjoyed it every visit! The food is delicious, the portions are generous, the service is great, and the atmopshere is fun. It is a great place to bring family or friends.
I recently ate for the first time at Nakama in Pittsburgh's happening South Side...loved it!!! Our chef prepared an excellent meal for us...great atmosphere....sushi was outstanding...and i even enjoyed my beverage with the light-up ice cube! Definately a unique place, well worth it!!!
Fantastic food and drinks! We live in the South Hills and frequent Hibachi Japan in McMurray. This is sooooooooooooo much better. It is a little dark and loud, but hey that gives it flavor! We drive 35 minutes just to eat here!
I have been to Nakama's many times, enjoyed everything about being there. Good food, great tricks, the service. The employees were very helpful in whatever we needed. I never waited for "another beer" and that is a real plus!! The bathrooms were very clean and the attendant was very pleasant and caring. I recommend Nakama's highly, It's the best around!!!!
I've eaten at Nakama numerous times and just love the sushi. My boyfriend is a huge fan of the hibachi. Overall, Nakama is a great dining experience and I recommend it to anyone looking for great sushi! The ginger dressing is great too!
They have the best spider rolls there. Excellent service. I usually get takeout during my lunch hour and they are very quick and always very nice. Its the best sushi in town.
This restaurant is downright amazing. From the decor and ambience on through to its sushi and hibachi-style dinners, Nakama epitomizes the perfect dining experience. In addition, they send out informative monthly newsletters, hold contests, and generally treat their patrons better than any local restaurant. Go to Nakama and you'll see what I mean!
I have become a devotee of Nakama and make it a point to eat there a few times a month. The sushi is the best I've eaten ANYWHERE! Even in my travels, I have found no other japanese restaurant that even comes close. The Hanalei and Boston Rolls are not to be missed!!! I've even taken friends to Nakama who swore they didn't like sushi and they've always left with a whole different outlook. Th...
I have been to Nakama twice....once for dinner and once for lunch. Both were excellent. I actually recommend lunch because it is less crowded and only a little less food for a lot less money. However, I would not hesitate to go at any time. I have been to several hibachi restaurants and this is the best by far.
I love this place! It has the best and freshest sushi in the city and if you like spicy tuna, you will love theirs! It's always a tough choice of what to get because everything is good.
The wait staff is always available and quick to make suggestions.
A very good place for a night out!
Nakama is one of my favorite restaurants in Pittsburgh. The atmosphere is fabulous and the staff is always friendly. I've ate at the sushi bar and in the dining area and enjoyed myself at both. I brought my friends from out of town to Nakama and our chef was absolutely fantastic. He even let us get up and cook!! Looking for a good time and good food, go to Nakama!
A must if you live or are just visiting the Pittsburgh area. The hibachi is to die for an the sushi is just as good! Service is excellent and there is usually valet service out in front. The bartenders are experienced and create tasty martinis, like the "T-D tini". I definitely recommend the hibachi dinner. Plenty of choices to choose from. I prefer the Land & Sea which is a combination of ...
Always enjoy taking business associates or friends/family here. Great Sushi and great Steak House menu. Above all, though, great bar scene that is always in full swing.
Nakama is amazing. Best sushi/restaurant in Pittsburgh. You can't beat Bob's Triple Combo and the Hanelei Roll, but everything I have ever tried as been delicious. Great to get a group together and go, or just have a nice night out for 2.
I first tried sushi at Nakama a year ago, and since I have become a sushi lover. I now eat sushi everywhere I go that it is served, and I can't find any as good as that served at Nakama. The seafood at Nakama is so fresh. I have become a regular at Nakama. I go about once a month, and have never had anything but the best of times there. The food is exceptional, the chef is always entertainin...
I was so excited to go to Nakama for the first time and my expectations were definitly met! My chef was so friendly and entertaining and the food was amazing! Make sure you try the shrimp sauce!!!!!
I love Nakama not only because they serve great food, but also because they entertain me while doing it!! But what I really appreciate is learning about their special events and feeling like "one of the guys" when I receive their newsletter. I am a definite fan!
I recommend Nakama to anyone whether the person is a local or from out of town. I met some very cool bartenders there who I've seen outside of Nakama and they continued their friendly personalities. The sushi is very good and I've compared their sushi to quite a few places. It is a great happy hour place as others have noted. The owner is also very cool...while I've only had email communication s...
I go to Nakama with my girlfriends atleast once a month. We always have the best time. The food is unbelievabley good....I have NEVER had a bad meal and the service staff and chefs are always knowlegable and entertaining. I would absolutly recommend this restaurant.
Best sushi in Pittsburgh! I've been to Nakama a number of times - both for lunch and dinner. Service has been great and sushi is always wonderful! Especially the Hanalei Roll!
Nakama is the best sushi restaurnant that I have been to since I moved here to Pittsburgh. Being a VIP member, they send me coupons and promotional offers to dine in the restaurant. Recently I brought a friend of mine from California, and we had a pleasant dinner at the sushi bar and the service was excellent!
Nakama Japanese Steakhouse is an awesome restuarant for afterwork drinks in preparation for an excellent dinner. They have wonderful chefs which provide plenty of entertainment with your meal along with great customer service. If you are willing to pay the extra money for a wonderful evening in the Southside of Pittsburgh, which is great for taking that special lady, then Nakama is the place to...
Ever since Nakama opened in the South Side, I have always had a wonderful meal, great service, and an enjoyable experience! The owners are innovative and bring a little fun back to the Pittsburgh dining experience. It is because of them and their friendly staff that I keep returning to this true "gem" in the South Side. Even if it is for just a late night snack of sushi, I am delighted to find...
I'm a hero! Every client I've taken to Nakama invariably calls me to find out the next time we'll go there. The food is outstanding, the service superb and the prices, (especially during "Happy Hour") are affordable. I highly recommend Nakama to sushi afficionados as well as "first-timers". Even if sushi isn't your cup of tea, take in a show tableside. All of my clients were impressed with the pe...
This is one of the best japanese hibachi and sushi restaurants ANYWHERE. Great atmosphere, service does vary, but overall very good. Meat and fish is always as fresh as can be! Never compromised as they say. Highly recommend!
Nakama's environment is very friendly. The customer service is excellent. From waitresses to chefs, we were treated like royalty.
The food is also always served perfectly to order specifications. The chefs are well trained and it shows in the way that they pay attention to your requests. They aim to please and my wife and I are always pleased.
This is one of the best japanese hibachi and sushi restaurants ANYWHERE. The restaurant is so comfortable, and the services has always been good for me, (of course you can only judge on how crowded or non that it is. I recommended this place to all of my friends and they have nothing but the nicest things to say as well. I hope everyone gets a chance to try it atleast once.
Ever since I came to Nakama one night for dinner almost a year ago, I've been in love. The food, atmosphere, and experiences (and unfortunately the pounds get added in as well), I gain everytime I come to Nakama I wouldn't trade for anything!!
Mondays are my special days... Every Monday I walk in the door and am pleasantly greeted by name by whomever is at the front desk. They know I love Rae ...
Nakama on the South Side of Pittsburgh is the best sushi place. Their unique and tasty appetizer salad is to die for. I can't wait to go back to Nakama and devour their Hawaiian rolls again. They are amazing!
My boyfriend was in town and he is a huge seafood/sushi fan. I've heard about this resturant from some friends who raved about their grill tables and suggested it to me. Unfortunately, I called too close the to time we wanted reservations (they wouldn't be able to get us a grill side table until 10), but luckily we were still able to get a bar side table. Even though they were very busy, the wait...
I have been to Nakama twice both times were for a birthday celebration. I loved it the food is great the people were very friendly. My children loved it my husband said it was one of his best birthdays.
The sushi is always the freshest and best tasting from anywhere around. The hibachi chefs are entertaining, and the food is delicious. It's a busy place, so be sure to get a reservation, but the great atmosphere, great food, and great location make Nakama a must for anyone looking for something different to do.
Ive been to Japanese restaurants all over the country and Nakama takes a back seat to none of them! Outstanding sushi, terrific entrees prepared in an entertaining fashion, and fabulous drinks. great place to take your children, as well. Love Nakama!
I like Nakama ok, but I think there are many other similar & tastier places to eat for the money.
The skills at the tables are pretty bland although I like the food ok.
See how many of you are selling yourself out for a bribe of $10?
I got this email from the Nakama mailing list today:
"If you have a few minutes and would like to get a $10 gift certificate to Nakama then I would like to ...
Nakama was such a wonderful experience, I had been a bit reserved about going, because I didn't like Japanese food, but a trip to Nakama is now my absolute favorite meal! I've gotten the Kobe beef every time, and have never been disappointed. The staff is both professional and entertaining, and the restaurant is beautiful and welcoming, a great place for an exciting sit down meal, or just for d...
Just love this place. We choose it for all special events. One of our favorite places for sushi. We go at least once a month.
whenever i go to nakama, i have a wonderful experience. the chefs are entertaining, you get a variety of items along with the meal, and the overall setting is perfect for a celebration or jsut a nice, casual dinner.
I have never had a problem at Nakama, the people there are very nice, the music is great and the atmosphere is fantasic. The food and the tricks that are done are great! I wouldn't change a thing about Nakama. All of their coupons and specials are very true. As long as Nakama stays in Pittsburgh, I will continue to serve them!
All I need to say is...Hanalei Rolls -- You HAVE to try them!. :) If you're looking for an exciting bar atmosphere, EXCELLENT sushi bar (and the hibachi is pretty damn good, too), friendly bartenders, TVs showing various sporting events and great "mood music," look no further... Nakama is the place! :)
My husband and I go out to dinner with friends at least two times a month, and we go to Nakama every single time! Not only is the service excellent, and the food great but the atmosphere speaks for itself! I recommend it to anyone and everyone i talk to! Def #1 in PGH!
I have been going to Nakama since it has opened and it is by far the best sushi/japanese restaraunt in Pittsburgh. The atmosphere there makes for the ultimate dining experience with some of the best chefs in Pittsburgh and such a great location in the heart of South Side. And their sushi is extremely fresh and some of the best around!!
Fresh, quality food and the best service in Pittsburgh. Every time I go to Nakama I buy sushi and a dinner entree, but I end up with delicious leftovers that go to work with me the next day. While my co-workers are chewing on hot pockets and lean cuisines, I'm feasting on sesame chicken with sides of fried rice, mushrooms and vegetables. The staff has been friendly and helpful on every visit. Mus...
Excellent service and the food was beyond my expectation. I have eaten sushi in many places across the world and this is one of the best. Presentation was well done and the price was the best part. I would recommend this place to anyone who likes good sushi and Japenese food.
The service and food are always excellent. I have tried almost everything on the menu and never got something I didn't enjoy! If you go on a busy Friday or Saturday enjoy a drink at the well stocked bar and order the sampler platter you won't be dissappointed.
My girls and I had an awesome time at Nakama this last visit, just like all the others. I'm not a big fan of sushi and that type of food, but I definately loved what I got. My friends shared with me and now I may actually like it, because I tried it. Excellent food, excellent service, can't wait to go back!
i shared a hibachi table with 5 of my friends last friday...some of us had experienced them before, while for others this had been their first time...we all had an excellent dinner and enjoyable "show"...by far the BEST filet mignon i have EVER had!...thank you and keep up your superior service!!!
I've been to Nakama's dozens of times - sometimes with my boyfriend, sometimes friends, sometimes family - and every time I try something new (and I have yet to be disappointed). Whenever I make a reservation, we are seated a few minutes after arriving. The ambiance is unlike any other. I've worked in the restaurant industry for five years and I've seen both good and bad waitstaff -- and Nakama's...
I have been going to Japanese tableside cooking restaurants for years. I have tried all the ones in the area as well as ones while I was traveling. Nakama is my absolute favorite. The food is terrific and the service is great.
I joined the VIP club. I get tons of great discount offers on birthdays and anniversaries.
This is a great restaurant for a special occasions or just a nice d...
I have lived in Pittsburgh my entire life, and even though it is still relatively new, Nakama has surpassed everywhere else I have ever eaten and is most definitely my favorite. Whether I go for sushi or hibatchi, everything is always spectacular. The staff is always friendly and VERY knowledgable about everything on the menu. They have gone so far as to alter ingredients in a meal because I was ...
This past august, I went to Nakama for my anniversary dinner with my boyfriend. The food was amazing and the chefs were outstanding. I would recommend Nakama to anyone of my friends and family. It was also a great way to meet new people. The people that were seated next to me were just enjoyable. The evening was a wonderful success. Thank you for the evening! Cristen Gides, Pittsburgh Pa
Nakama is really violating the spirit of this website! Look at all the good reviews posted today. Nakama sent out an email stating they'll give gift certificates for positive reviews! I've eaten twice at Nakama and been underwhelmed both times. The service was lousy and the restrooms were in desperate need of a cleaning. Shame on Naklama for being so sneaky!
We have been to Nakama on a number of occasions and have always had a great time! It is a great place to go with a group of people. The service is excellent! They have a very friendly wait staff and great chefs! Plus, after dinner you can hang out at the bar. I will definitely be back.
Nakama was one of my first sushi experiences and it really turned me into a sushi lover. I have yet to try their hibachi, but the sushi is delicious. On my first visit to the sushi bar, I didn't know much about sushi and wasn't sure how and what to order. The sushi chef was very helpful and actually enjoyed explaining everything to be. It was very educational and tasty!
Simply Stated : Surprisingly Delicious ! Worth the price! The atmosphere is busy and fun..definitely have to make reservations -even on a Monday!! That tells you something right there! Compared to Yokoso in nearby Waterfront -> NO COMPARISON ! You've got to go !
Patty from Pittsburgh
I am very picky with my food. Not many resturants in the area have many things to choose from. I have always been able to find a meal that I enjoy on their menu.
I have eaten at Nakama numerous times and it is a great restuarant. Actually, one of the best in Pittsburgh. The Sushi is phenominal and the Hibachi style cooking is fun and taste great. Everyone should try it!!!
My family recently went to Nakama and the experience was wonderful, the service, the food and the atmosphere was fabulous. My daughter wants to go weekly now. I recommend everyone going here. You get allot of food for your money and that is hard to find these days
I dined at Nakama with my finacee about a month ago. I had been to a few other hibachi style restaurants, but I was really impressed with Nakama! We started with the lettuce wraps, they were delicious! We both had a chicken and shrimp entree and it was just fantastic! The smokeless grill was really impressive too (didn't come home smelling like smoke!) We also thought the atmosphere was very...
Been there three times for dinner and sushi. I have eaten in 5 or 6 of Pittsbutghs Sushi resteraunts and Nakama is the best hands down. The soft shell crabs rolls are to die for. The service is excellant, the cooks are friendly and entertaining. Each time we were there we were witha group and none of us had any complaints about anything. I will be back again and again! I an't wait for our ...
I've dined at Nakama several times and had great experiences there EVERY TIME!!! The chefs are very personable and professional and the entire wait staff is very attentive to your needs. I recently went there for my 21st birthday in August and chose the surf and turf...AMAZING as always and they made it a very memorable birthday dinner!!!!
Good grub, spacious restaurant, great selection, and entertaining atmosphere. Not to mention the best happy hour around. This is truly the Burgh hot spot for hanging out, but the secret is definitely out. Nakama is no longer the secret on the South Side!
I just moved to the city about a year ago. I always heard great things about Nakama and always talked about wanting to go so my boyfriend took me there on my birthday. The sushi was amazing! The sake and Japanese beer was fantastic! The service was and atmosphere was great! Sitting at the sushi bar and watching the chefs prepare our food was so much fun! Loved it!
LOVED the food and the atmosphere. The wait staff were friendly and polite. The food -- just WOW. The portions are huge and if you leave there hungry, it's your own fault. I can not wait to go there again! This is my new favorite place.
Nakama is the greatest place ever! There food is the bestest. If you love seafood then this is the place to go. Everything is wonderful from the soup to the bean sprouts! If you have never been there go, and if you have been there go again!
Nakama offers great food and service in a very pleasant atmosphere. It is a restaurant where you can take your family and be amazed at the chef's culinary skills, or choose a booth and have a nice romantic evening.
Nakama is the best Japanese Steakhouse that I have ever been to. The environment is great and so is the food and service. Everytime I have been to Nakama the experience has been absolutely wonderful.
I just love this place! My husband and I go at least once a month. The food is wonderful and the cooks put on a spectacular show! It is the perfect place for a night out with friends. It is a place to visit while in Pittburgh!
My daughter adores Japanese food, so I took her and her husband to Nakama for her 34th birthday.......we were VERY pleasantly surprised.
The food was delicious, especially the soup as it was made from REAL beef stock, not colored chicken broth. The gentleman preparing our food was personable and competent.
We had a little wait at the end of the meal waiting for our waitress to bring us change, ...
Sushi can be a tough thing to order, especially if you don't know what you are ordering. Nakama Japanese Steakhouse has the best sushi in the region, served with one thing you may not get anywhere else... KNOWLEDGE! You'll never get a bad recommendation from their staff. I never had a bad meal there. And the service is both speedy and friendly. I'm going back many times!
Nakama is a great place to have an amazing time with friends. The service is always great, the drinks awesome, and the food amazing.
No matter how many times I return I am always impressed by Nakamas.
I have been to Nakama several times and have always had great service. Everyone is really friendly. The food is great for the price. The atmosphere is very unique and I love the dim lighting. It makes for a really great romantic evening. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to enjoy great food. It's especially a great place to go on a date.
My husband & I recently had dinner and had the lobster tails and kobee(sp?) beef. The meal and entertainment was excellent. We shared a table with 6 strangers, and yet, the chef still tried to encompass us all in the entertainment of the food preparation. We so enjoyed ourselves!! Next time, though, I'll take along people we know.
I have used Nakama for several small corporate dinners and have had great success with their service. The service is attentive and the menu options suit everyone. Will continue to use them for business as well as pleasure.
I have been a regular at Nakama since it opened and i love the place!! I go once a week and the food and the atmosphere is wonderful. When i take my son with me, the staff does everything to entertain him and they are so great to him. Heidi has gone out of her way time and time again to put a smile on his face. We go there for every special occasion and always have a great time. The food is ...
My son goes to school in Pittsburgh, and when I visit we almost always go to Nakamas for the sushi. The service has always been good, and sometimes even entertaining. We are VIP members. I read the negative review, and must say I agree that the coupons should be good for the sushi bar as well. My coupon experience was that when I asked our waiter to honor it at the sushi bar, he asked manage...
Every time I go to Nakama, I enjoy it more and more each time. The food is awesome... I seem to always take some home, the portions are so big. The service is always spectacular and the ambiance is always inviting. Not only do I love eating there, I love drinking there too!! Thursday nights in Pittsburgh belong to NAKAMA!!
Before I moved to Pittsburgh, a friend took me to Nakama. While there, I signed up for their VIP club or whatever they call it. After spending considerable amounts of money there in the sushi bar, they sent me a $20 gift certificate for my birthday. When I tried to use the gift certificate in the sushi bar, the waitress would not honor it. She told me that it was only good for "dinner," and "...
Nakama is for the 21-41 crowd looking to "mingle" and to see and be seen. If it is an appetite that you are looking to satisfy, then Nakama has a pretty extensive menu. Whether it be sushi or the habachi grill there is something for everyone--and if you pay attention, you can find some good deals i.e. Bobs special for $19 on Tuesdays (I think that's the right night). For me, I get sick everyti...
Nakama Japanese Steakhouse did not honor our reservation in a timely fashion on June 10, 2006. We had to wait 35 minutes past our arrival at 7 pm. Even with that delay, we had to continially request to be seated. The food was slightly above average. Our waiter and chef were helpful to special diet needs (low sodium). The management and hosts were unhelpful and surly. While waiting to be seated ...
I have travelled all over Asia and I love Asian cuisine. Nakama is more of a fusion of Japanese food with a little bit of American touch. The food is wonderful, the hibachi sometimes is great other times is above average... Some chefs are great, some are so/so.
The price you pay is a bit high for the quality of food you get. Again its great but if you are used to eating good Japanese foo...
Nakama is a great addition to the South Side. With the bar in the front and Hibachi tables in the back, it provides a complete dining experience. As soon as you walk in you are greeted by a fantastic island bar that is chalk full of beautiful people. The chef for our table was less than exciting, but I believe he was in training. Also, the place is a bit loud to have conversation with anyone ...
This Japanese steak house and sushi will delight you. The habachi cooked meals are prepared before you eyes. The experienced chefs make it a fun evening. Start out with some delicious sushi and you will have a great meal.
Nakama has good food and an even better atmosphere, located right in the Southside. Sushi is good, but the restaurant really specializes in hibachi. Waitstaff is quick and friendly.
After spending $130.00 for two people, I left Nakama wondering what all the fuss was about. As I was rudely informed by the Maitre D', Nakama is the "hottest place in the South Side". I guess this will always cause me a bit of confusion. Do yourself a favor, if you're looking for great sushi, there's a restaurant also on Carson St that will deliver in their promise of great food and great atmos...
From seasoned sushi veterans to hibachi novices, there is no better place than Nakama. Their Happy Hour special include half-off appetizers, sushi rolls and drinks! I would particularly reccomend their Catarpillar Roll, the Calimari Steak Tips and their delicious Chocolate Martinis.
PROS: Beautiful environment and great service.
CONS: A little on the expensive side, but worth it.
I have never had a bad experience. We use nakama for all of our family and friend get togethers! Not only is the food great but the service is always prompt and friendly. I highly recommend Nakama to anyone interested in a great meal and a great time!
I have eaten at Japanese steakhouses all over. Nakama was one of the best meals. The sushi was fresh and perfect. The chef was entertaining, friendly and professional. He cooked a perfect medium rare steak for one of our party as well as my scallops and shrimp being "just done". I was only disappointed with the fact that we had to wait for the table to fill before we proceeded. Parking was ...
My husband and I chose Nakama from the internet! We drove from Ellwood City to go there & it was well worth the drive! The Cook was exciting and funny to watch and the waiter made us all feel welcome even those of us who had to save a few weeks to afford the night out! Drink prices were normal for the City and They got us in quite fast!
After going to their competion and getting snubbed and w...
Fabulous place and atmosphere, other Japanese steakhouses in the area pale in comparison!!
I have always had great service and fun. I eat and drink mostly in the bar but also have had diiner parties in the back. I love the Nakama card.... it offers get benefits for return customers. Newsletters are great also. Plus it's one of the few restaurants that actually give you a free dinner for your birthday.
Food lacks authenticity. For example, take the spicy tuna roll: the tuna tastes bland and mushy (as if it had been frozen and thawed), the tuna is not rubbed with chili powder, and a sauce of about the same taste and appearance as THOUSAND ISLAND DRESSING(!) is squirted all over the cut pieces of the roll. In fact, this thousand island dressing sauce is used to compensate for the blandness of ...
The waitstaff is very kind and attentive, the food is incredible, the performance on the grill is spectacular, it has a very cool and beautiful ambiance and is a GREAT place to take a date or take that special someone on an anniversary. Perfect!
For the cost of the meal we expected a much better show. Our table cook was grungy looking and rather lifeless so that it put an overall damper
on the meal. The sushi was lower quality compared to that of other Japanese restaurants in town like Kiku or Sushi House. The Kobe steak chunks were tasty though and the filet and strip steaks our party ordered were well received.
