I think they have changed management and ownership. We ordered take out for new year. Even after requesting to make it spicy they didnt. They said it would take 20 mins but it took an hr. The containers wern't labled so we were guessing what we were eating. The quantity wasn't much. For the price I paid for the food, it wasn't worth it. I won't say authentic indian cuisine. The biryani is nothing...
I've eaten here a dozen times and their lunch buffet is always great! These guys are the same people that own Moksha and both restaurants are great and will not disappoint when you're looking for some great authentic Indian food.
Having always loved Indian and Spice Foods, I spent over 2 months in India, fell in love with the Chicken Tikka Masala there and gained 25lbs. Came home and of course went searching for the same quality dish here in Cali. I went everywhere almost every night, I even went to little India in Cerritos, It took me over 3 months to find it but the Clay Oven actually makes the real deal and the addict...
If you like variety and bang-for-your-buck, this Indian food restaurant is pretty good. The quality of food in the buffet is not as good as if you were to order a dish separately, though. It seems like everything is just a bit too greasy. But a nice perk is that there are always two different types of dessert included, and also unlimited chai tea. There are always three or four vegetarian options...
At this point, Clay Oven has become one of our favorite restaurants in all of Los Angeles. The absolutely best Indian food in the whole town, bar none. And we go to lots of Indian restaurants. Not Tantra, Lal Mirch or the rest can hold a candle to this place. Not the fanciest place (Lal Mirch is fancier) nor the trendiest (Tantra does a good job in that department), Clay Oven is both trendy t...
My fiance' and I had dinner there last night and absolutely everything tasted fresh and flavorful! The mint sauce, samosas, okra and vegetable biryani were the best I've ever had. The atmosphere is somewhat hip, fairly romantic... and the food will keep you eating way past "full." My fiance' is vegan and some places can be less than accommodating, but Clay Oven actually caters to the vegan cro...
Clay Oven has great indian food. The service is fast. The atmosphere is really nice. The yellow daal is too good. They remodeled the whole place and it looks great! Mindblowing ambience.
It was my wife's birthday, got a babysitter at noon to watch my 3 year old. Went for lunch buffet at 1pm. Restaurant was hardly thirty percent full. I saw an open booth and asked the hostess for it. She rudely said it was only for 4 people. So she sat us down next to an obnoxious group of six very loud people. Other than the booths, the other tables are tightly pressed up against each other...
I thought this restaurant was brilliant. My husband and I went for dinner and the food was just amazing. We ordered the chicken curry and the lamb korma with saffron rice, it was delish! WE would deff go back again. THe waiters were really nice too, Manu the manager was extremely friendly. The ambiance was very simple, they should add some artwork to their walls but overall it was very nice. It w...
I've been to the Clay Oven for the buffet a few times now and I really like this place. I had been wanting to try this place for a while now but I thought it would be hard to find parking on Ventura. There is actually a pretty decent parking lot in the alley behind the restaurant. The ambiance was much nicer than I expected- All the tables have linen, lots of servers walking around refilling ...
We tried it for the first time and were VERY unimpressed. We usually eat at Great India Cafe on Ventura in Studio City, but we thought we would give this one a try. We both ordered meat dishes and found the meats to be very inferior quality. Mystery meat would be the best way to describe it. Usually we have enough left over to take home for lunch the next day. When the waiter asked us if we wan...
The food was delicious - we had their new Mango chicken, which was just the best. Their garlic naan wasn't the best I've had, but that's not what's going to make or break ratings for me. Also, the waiter was a bit odd - we got the impression that perhaps he wasn't happy that we were sharing the majority of the meal. But it wasn't that big of a deal, actual service was still good, and the chicken ...
Used to be decent, although it seemed to have changed management/ownership a few times over the years... went on Friday night, the place has been closed down. Not sure if it's just for a remodel or permanent.
Service was great. The food was good. My chicken jafrazzi was very good and my wife's vegetarian kora (sp?) enlightment was amazing. I would definately recommend and go back!
My wife and I visited this restaurant twice. On our first visit, the service was mediocre, but acceptable. Everything took a very long time, waiters went the entire meal without checking to see if we needed refills on drinks (which we did). Which I could understand if the restaurant was full, but there were only six tables of customers in the entire place. We ordered chicken and lamb tikka ma...
Been here twice - for champagne brunch and for dinner. very happy both times. Good food, good service, Nice atmosphere. I had aloo gobi and delicious naan. I'll be back and very frequently!
I have been to this restaurant on four different occassions in over four years and have been consistently disappointed. Although I asked for the food to be spicy (which the rude waiter kept insisting may be too hot) the food was mild at best and not seasoned well. The chicken tikka was tasteless, the saag paneer greasy and tasteless, the mango chicken greasy and tasteless...you can see a pattern...
Clay Oven has the best curries in LA for my taste buds. Their Chicken Tikka Masala and Lamb Korma are just the best. Great Naan, great veggie dishes, and King Fisher beer (the best indian beer)! Their grilled meats are good, but not the best in the area, and I say stick with the curry style dishes because they are the best!
I like to sit out on the patio and take my time, which they are more t...
Clay Oven's ambience and staff is very inviting and exotic. The late hours on Fridays and Saturdays are a HUGE PLUS, but that doesn't mean anything if the food wasn't scrumptious. The food is just AMAZING, when you order your dish the food is placed on these mini tea light warmed copper pans, so it makes it easy to share with friends!
A group of my friends & I were out and about in the valley and our appetites were calling out for food. We opted out on fast food and drove by Clay Oven thinking it would be closed by now...about closer to 11ish at night. Low and behold there were patrons inside and in the patio. The sign in front read "Open until midnight Fridays & Saturdays" or close to something of that nature. We were jus...
Never let's me down, excellent food!! Extra spicy is the way to go!!
I've tasted Indian Food throughout the Valley restaurant and by far, Clay Oven tops them all. The flavors and ingredients are so good that it brings me back for more. The Chicken Tikka Masala is a must try dish! Friendly service.
I've been dining, take-out & deliveries for years. They are happy to take coupons found in Clipper & Valpak. Food is Great, Atmosphere Eclectic for enjoying fine dining. Friendly service is a plus. They are now open until 12 midnight on Fridays & Saturdays. They also serve lunch buffets on weekdays and champagne brunches on weekends. It's convenient and not at all pricey for the food quali...
We've been to this restaurant twice, and both times, the vegetarian entrees tasted utterly bland and the vegetables themselves looked like they came straight out of the frozen food section at Ralph's. The chicken dishes are a mixed bag--the tikka was good, but the lasooni was dry and too heavy on the cilantro. We're not going back for strike three...
The food is so good at this place. I recently went with my Indian friend and he was commending the chef with each bite of the food we ordered. Besides the exceptional garlic Nan, the Chicken Coconut Curry, Spinach Sag with Tofu and the Chicken Tika Masala have all become my favorites. They serve the food in bowls raised above tea light candles which seem to float over the dining table. Eatin...
I would not recommend this business based on the fact the customer service is horrible. The food is okay. They are not expensive. They do have a coupon in Valpak.com, but they really hate when you use it. They are not friendly people. They specialize in Indian Cuisine. They do offer a lunch buffet, but you'd better make sure you have gotten all you are going to eat before 2:25pm, because th...
I've been to virtually every top Indian place in LA, and this one is definitely tops! Nice ambience, good service, but the food is truly fantastic. The tandoori lamb chops and chicken coconut curry were out of this world. The vegetarian curries were bursting with flavor and complex spices. Can't wait to go back!
My girlfriend and I just had dinner over the weekend with another couple and it was quite busy. We were seated promptly with courtesy. We've eaten at other restaurants before but none has made their chicken tikka masala as good as Clay Oven's. Our friends were quite impressed too since it was their first time here and our fifth or sixth time. The wine and music just made it even better for o...
Lots to say! We had dinner in Clay Oven on November 5 and was looking forward to write my experience to people who are fans of indian food and to those who are not, I recommend this indian cuisine. You will love it. I loved the Ambience, Beautiful chairs and silverware. Service on top of the line, It was crowded when we got there. Our waitress was very friendly, and she was also very professional...
As a world traveller, I have tasted food in India and Clay Oven is the best restaurant by far that serves authentic Indian food for those who have not been to India. Namely, chicken tikka masala and saag (spinach) tofu. Yes, tofu! It's delicious and nutritious. Moreover, eating it with the fresh garlic naan makes you want to savor for more. The service was prompt and friendly. I dine in and...
We dined at this place for their buffet lunch and was quite impressed with their food. Albeit, they had pretty basic Indian-style foods, nothing too fancy or out of the ordinary. Nevertheless, we enjoyed their food and friendly service. You have to try their bottomless chai tea! It is AWESOME! They did take quite awhile to bring out more but as soon as they did, there was a mini-line that fo...
