MY SON IS GETTING MARRIED AND WAS CONSIDERING THIS PLACE TO HOST THE REHEARSAL DINNER. NOT ANY MORE!!!
NFL star Chad Ochocinco paid in advance and brought 45 fans for dinner and they turned him away because they believed that "45 random folks would lower the value" of the restaurant. i've been before, food is good but there are plenty of places to get good sushi in LA without being bougey and exclusive. Go to Nozawa or Katsu Ya instead.
My husband and I went there last night and if I had read the reviews I might not have gone, but I am glad I did. We ordered the Izakaya Feast and it was fantastic!!! Our servers name was Chris and he was charming, our food came fast....very fast actually. Our tea was constantly refilled without asking, our food was introduced and explained to us as it was served, the manager came over and gave us...
Went there on Sunday night, place is empty, hostess tells us there are large parties coming in so she can not seat us outside and that we can either sit at the banquettes in front or at the bar. We ask her if there is service at the banquette and she said "yes" so we sit and every waiter in the place walks right by us. I ask the hostess if she could send someone over to take our order, she says "...
Great meal, great place to socialize, had a great time!
The waiters were fun. The food was excellent & my fav, the volcano cake. ;O) Thanks!
When we went there the service was a little slow but the staff provided us with free dessert which was to die for. The chocolate lava cake was delicious!
I just left at 7:45 pm on Sunday August 9, 2009 from having drinks and appetizers with a friend at Katana, and I have never had a worse experience at any restaurant as I did tonight. Our waitress was inexperienced and unprofessional. While she made a series of undoubtedly mistakes (that even she admitted), she was unapologetic and rude about having to serve us. She ordered the wrong meal for my f...
My girlfriend and I I just returned from an absolutely awful dining experience at Katana. We thought we were going to have a nice girl?s night out, but this turned into a nightmare. I usually do not write reviews but this was soo bad that I can?t just act like it never happened. This is my 5th time dining there and my last. All other times I have been nice, hence why I returned. However, tonight ...

The sushi and sashimi is fresh and attractively prepared. The server kept up with our ordering pattern, but seemed a little distracted (overworked?) and it took a few reminders to keep the drinks coming in concert with the food. In general, I would give the thumbs up for taking a date or a small number of guests -- nice interior, very clean, professional service environment without the uptightnes...
I love this place! great crowd! The presentation is particular and the full bar with a warm patio make this place a perfect location for a Saturday night
My friends and i loved the food. It is kinda pricey but I thought it was worth every penny! It is so gorgeous inside! I think it would be the perfect date place. I'll be back for sure, with a smaller party of course.
Katana is beautiful... really nice spot. Salmon is my favorite seafood so I seem to favor the rainbow roll. But they are way overpriced. club sushi is more in my budget. The average amount you will pay per entree is between $15 and $25.
First of all, I've been here quite a few times and I strongly recommend a reservation, especially during peak hours.
Katana is located in the heart of Hollywood and it's a nice place to go to get to know someone special (as I did this past weekend) or just hang out with friends and meet people. The patio is especially nice. The food is quite good, but the portions are small. I think the p...
The patio is great in the summer months for watching the scene on Sunset. Sushi is fresh, people are nice.
They have the best sushi in Los Angeles (that Ive had). The best people watching in LA too. And its in the best location. Def try it
I give this place 5 stars for decor and location. the place is so beautiful and big. Staff was very friendly. We were the first ones to show up on a thursday night (or wed, can't remember) so we got the fusion drink (awesome!). They kept forgetting some of our order which was annoying, but were still very friendly. The music outside was mellow and i loved the vibe of the whole place. Sushi was go...
Check out the review of this and many other happy hours at: happiest hours(dot)blog spot(dot)com - no spaces between words, but City Search won't allow it any other way. First, the important stuff - the atmosphere here is great, and for a Tuesday night, it was a decent crowd. Young professionals, friendly bartender, good decor. The downside is that for two people having drinks and food, the total...
Four of us went for dinner, promptly seated, decent table, very dark inside. The place was slow but it quickly filled up. The service was generally good until they got busy. We liked some of the food a lot, and hated some of it a lot... we sent back a raw tuna that was fishy smelling and then later, we had a shrimp tempura roll that was completely inedible. I mean, it just tasted like over fr...
I've been here several times for "date nights" and am always impressed by the great service and the good sushi. My fav is the spicy tuna roll and the asparagus wrapped filet! Oh, and try the infusion drink at the bar - it's great as a martini or over ice. Yum.
I went with a friend for her birthday and we had an amazing time. Our waiter was polite and made great suggestions based upon our personal likes. We loved the kobe, sea bass and shrimp wrapped with bacon from the Robata menu. They had a fun sushi menu although I've definitely had better sushi before. I'd suggest dining outside (at least while the weather is warm) because it adds a new dimensio...
My wife and I go here about once a month to enjoy the food, the drinks, the ambiance and each other. The food, to me, is better than anything else I have ever eaten. We love the robata, especially the black cod, the chilean seabass and the ribeye. Green beans are a must. They have an appetizer that has fresh crab stuffed into soy paper which melts in your mouth. Try the pear martini -- it's perfe...
The entire wait staff thinks they are better than the diners- all waiting to be discovered. Periodically, this isn't such a bad thing as you get to be around beautiful, want-to-be-liked, early twenty-somethings, but generally speaking, they tend to want to please so the service industry works for them (hence all the actor/waiters in this town). It is as sadly typical of Los Angeles as we've fou...
Katana is a great sushi and robata restaurant. The patio overlooking Sunset Boulevard is spectacular. The drinks are good and it is a great place for people watching!
All my experiences at Katanas have been great. The sushi is delicious and robata is unparalleled in taste and quantity.
The bar is exceptional...try the Fusion, its great!
Trendy, fun, sexy and great sushi! The drinks are awesome as well... As soon as you walk in the Sushi Chefs make it known that you've entered the building! FUN!! Get to the Sunset Strip today and enjoy this lovely establishment!
so yeah there's a scene... but can you say yummmmyy!!! during the summer outside is a plus but be sure you call at least a week in advance and request it.. if outside is not possible sit in the tea garden room inside.. you are inside but you feel like you are in this magical sushi garden..... almost private.. very vip like area. last time i was there we were sitting next to tyra banks .. i dont k...
I dined here alone - in town from work. It was kind of funny that they have a guy manning the "red rope" yet they don't ask if you have a reservation or anything. It's a cool building and is right on the strip. I sat at the Robata bar. The food was good and the staff was attentive. I had the tempura vegetables which come as a large "brick" of sorts. They tasted SO good though - good appet...
I love katana...great atmosphere and the best sushi in town. Spicy tuna rolls are amazing and so is the filet mignon wrapped around asparagus. The drinks are great..the service is a little slow but its worth the wait. Try to go during the week as it gets really packed on the weekends and theres no seating outdoors. call in advance for outdoor seating reservation. its definitely pricey but worth e...
My friends and I have always heard great things about Katana and decided to give it a go. From the moment we walked in, we liked what we saw. Very stylish decor, a lil' dark (what restaurant in L.A. isn't), cozy feeling in a weird way. We got sat about 20 min. after our reservation time in a cozy corner area and was greeted fairly quickly by our server. He explained to us how the restaurant works...
Going along with all the other happy reviewers, I thought this restaurant was pretty great. The pros were the amazingly fresh sushi, the friendly service, the drinks, the decor... Just impeccable all around. The only con was, well, how friggin' popular this place is. The bar was SO crowded on the Saturday night I went (I know, duh). Yummy mojitos, though. And also, we were originally taken to a t...
The biggest advantage of Katana is of course its location. I really enjoy sitting in its patio and observing the traffic on Sunset blvd, the luxury cars and people walking around. People there are just beautiful. Even though it is always crowded in Katana, the crowdness doesn't annoy me. As all the restaurants and lounges on Sunset, the valet parking is just a little overwhelming.
The food here is amazing!! I love that you can order small pieces of meat from their grill- I love the Chilean sea bass. Also, the sushi is high quality. The mojiots definitely don't skimp on the booze. Come here for your birthday and they put a huge sparkler-type candle in your dessert- it's amazing! Make reservations!
The first time I went here was a few years ago. I went there on a date for my birthday and the experience was phenomenal. Everything my date ordered was really tasty. The drinks were perfect and the service was good. It's a good spot for drinks. After that I 've been back many times with a large group and it worked out just perfect. I recommend this place to the younger crowd.
Went for happy hour...nice selection of small robatta and sushi dishes for a reasonable price. Very tasty execution on all of them. Drink specials were limited; however, one must try the Kyoto Rose or Pear martini if you are in the mood for something different and not too terribly sweet. The shaved parmesean served with the pear martini truly "makes it". However, if you don't tend to care fo...
I have eaten at Katana over a dozen times and never written a review. Overall I would recommend Katana for a few reasons.
Here are the Pro's- They have a knowledgeable staff, a nice Sake list, extremely friendly Sushi chefs who love to interact (this is difficult to find in LA!!!), a warm atmosphere, nice robata selection and good sushi, friendly bartenders and servers.
Cons- The food coul...
It was our very first time at the restaurant so our very friendly server gave us several recommendations that made our dining experience amazing that night.
First he recommened the Tsukune and the Tanuki Robata, both are made with chicken and the latter is mixed with some shitake mushroom. Very nicely grilled and the chicken is tender, blends well with the shitake.
Next we had the Gindara ...
This is not a place to go for sushi!! My husband and I ordered several sushi selections last night and all were horrible. Sushi is very black and white: it is either a good cut of fish and ultra-fresh or, in Katana's case, NOT. We were so blown away by how awful it was. I will say the atmosphere was beautiful , the service was excellent and the drinks were good.
Anyone who has a problem with this place is just a hollywood hater and can't put their opinion of the "scene" aside to appreciate amazing amazing food and drinks. AMAZING. I highly recommend the striped bass, it will scare you when you first see it, but it's mouth-watering.
While this spot has had its heyday, it's still a fine location with great views over the Strip, particularly on a warm evening. The appetizers are good and the drinks strong. The scene provides cool decor and lots of people watching. All in all, it's not the kind of place locals really go to -- it's more for suburbanites and out-of-towners looking for what they think is a cool scene or trying to ...
Katana has the best happy hour in town! The $5 menu is a bargain for such a cool spot. The food is delicious and so are the drinks.
Katana is an awesome dining experience. The food is delicious and the service is top notch. All my questions about specials, robata grill were answered and I loved our waitress' suggestions. Can't wait to go back!!
I love this place, I go there with my fiance about once a month, and we always had a wonderful time.
The food -especially the sushi- is amazing; the service is good considering how busy they are.
Just make reservation, they are packed even on week nights.
I recommend this place.
The Sushi was amazing the drinks were good service was great good place to take the one you love or groups.
Ate there last nite and was amazing as always. I like sitting at sushi bar so you can watch masters at work
Love the decor, the ladies, the staff, fun atmosphere and good food as well. If it is too busy in the dining room hang at the bar and people-watch.
I have to say that I enjoy eating at Katana whenever I am in town (about once each month). The food is great!!! I am especially impressed by the head hostess on weekends. She is friendly but professional. I feel as though I am just as important as the so called Divas who come through the door. All of your hostesses and your wait staff are professional and friendly.
I will continue to retu...
I used to eat at Katana a couple nights a week. The staff has completely changed within the past 5 months. Since this change, the service has been HORRIBLE! The hostesses are wanna-be's much like the new clientele. This restaurant is on it's way out. The atmosphere has declined, although the food has been consistently good. They need to adjust into a service oriented company. Remove the attitude ...
What a great place...The most beautiful hostesses I have ever seen...............even though you might wait 20 minutes for a table with a reservation.......everything from the food and the service is great........one thing to watch out you need reservation just to valet park............try to get a seat on the patio.............I will be back
I was visiting LA recently and decided to grab some dinner with my family at Katana! What a great idea! The atmosphere is great, the robata grilled items, and sushi were divine! The service was prompt and our waitress was on top of things. Typically, I would not say this was a "kid friendly" restaurant, but my children LOVED IT!!! One of my favorite restaurants in LA. Very cool and trendy! ...
I took my mother for her 50th birthday about a week and still have not stopped raving about it. There preselected choices are awesome. The lobster is awesome! We were late for our reservation and they still were able to accomdate our needs.
Is this really the "in scene" anymore? The food is always good, but the service is so awful. 10,000 sushi places in L.A., pick another one without the attitude!
Where do I begin??? My reservation was delayed for an hour, and when I finally got seated, the waitress didn't come over for another half hour... The entire time, the waitress ignored our table, our food took forever to arrive, and some of my friends had to wait another half hour for their food after everybody else had already finished their dinner. At that point, we tried to cancel our food orde...
Great food if you can ever get seated! We had an 8pm reservation. We weren't seated until almost 10 pm. Nothing can make up for that. The sushi is great....but its great at other places that will also treat you better. You can spot celebrities if that is your thing....but I only find that annoying. Decent service once you are seated, but the prices are outrageous and I can think of 10 ...
If you want very, very good sushi, Katana is remarkably consistent. It's a scene, particularly on weekends, and the hostesses, who act as if they're prima donnas, display an obnoxious attitude at times, particularly if you don't have a reservation. However, get past all of that and you'll have an amazing dinner. Lots of pretty people clamoring to dine here. Don't miss the lobster roll.
Sit outside and enjoy the great food along with the great atmosphere. Sashimi offerings are amazing as are the yakitori courses.
Katana is a sure bet, it is always superb. I go to Geisha, Koi and Nobu in New York but I always have a great time at Katana without so much attitude. Make a reservation for a Friday night or go during the week. The black cod is just as good as the ones at the other restaurants and it's only $12. I definitely recommend Katana and it is great to take for a date or business.
The view, the location, the scene and the food. Katana offers it all. Located right in the middle of the Sunset Strip & across the street of the Mondrian Hotel, which hosts the Sky Bar, KATANA offers quality food and outdoor dining in LA's social scene. There is a nice indoor bar for a quick fix, indoor and outdoor patio dining that is available. Watch out for the long wait times and the n...
Katana has some of the best sushi in L.A. Not only is it located on the sunset strip but on Sunday's, they even have a D.J. That comes out and spins music on the patio. So, if you love sushi and like loud music and great drinks, go to Katana for a good time. . .P.s. you will want to make a reservation.
Katana has some of the best sushi in West Hollywood! I love to come here with a big group and have dinner and cocktails. Although it gets pretty crowded, the staff is very friendly and courteous. This is better than some of the overrated sushi joints in LA! The crowd is still trendy after all these years and is ahit with out-of towners!
the ambience in the restaurant was amazing. it overlooks hollywood and the decor was beautiful. it's a trendy, yet not up-ity restaurant. the sushi was premium & the sake was amazing. i'd recommend this restaurant for special ocassions or those nights when you just wanna do something different.
This place is so beautifully decorated. Going to Katana is an experience in itself - even if you choose not to eat. The ambiance is romantic and warm and it is definitely a place to be seen! If you are trying to impress someone this is the place to take them. The Robato skewers are my best recommedation - they are grilled to perfection. The kitchen staff cooks everything in the open. There is a s...
I have never wrote a review on citysearch but after reading the wonderful reviews of this place I had to give my 2 cents so people don't go there. The hostess, as beautiful as she is, was a completely je*k to us. The food was horrible, if you are sushi lover. There is 100 better sushi places in la. The only reason to go there is if you want to be seen or if you like to see many attractive gir...
Forget that it is in Hollywood. Forget that you might see a movie star. All you need to do is sit at the sushi bar and tell Seiji (the best sushi chef around) "omakase". Masterful creations will appear. Beautiful appearance, sublime taste.
I have been to Katana several times in the past few years and have always been blown away. However, after dining there this weekend I left very disappointed. The food was amazing as usual but our server seemed very distracted and uncomfortable. The server uniforms on the patio were very distateful and seemed to down play the classy atmosphere in the main dining area.
If you are real sushi/sashimi lover, and also happened to like trendy Hollywood restaurant, this is a good one for you. When I say real sushi/sashimi lover, it means no CA roll, no crunch roll bs. I think they have those but I don't even think those are the real sushi. I ordered premium sashimi plate, it was super fresh and good, as good as the ones I had at very good sushi restaurant in Ginza...
I've eaten here twice and had some of the best sushi I've ever had! I reccomend the crunchy tuna roll and the california tempura roll, totally awesome! The really pushy waitress though was totally bent on me and my date getting the Robata, which does not seem all that appealing to me. Paying an exhorbitant price for little pieces of gilled beef or chicken served on sticks, no thanks. Do yours...
This place is pretty good, it's always packed on the weekends. However the problem is that service is kind of slow and the food is just average for the price....
If you want the experience, you'll find it here. The menu is extensive and the food amazing. But let's face it, this isn't the 90s. A restaurant is no longer just about the food. The staff were courteous and informed but the the crowd also deserves credit, they really made the night.
After reading all the excellent reviews on Katana, I recently went for the first time and fell in love. It is a strikingly beautiful restaurant. The vibe doesnt get any better. It definitely has a scene and is trendy, but yet it still feels intimate. The food is excellent. I had several of the different skewers. The shiitake mushrooms stuffed with minced chicken are my favorite, so heavenly....
i recently made reservations here for an intimate dinner for my boyfriend's birthday. after reading the rave reviews and even getting some personal recommendations from associates, i have to say that i was very excited. however, my experience here was a disaster from start to finish. first of all, the hostesses are completely ditzy, it takes three of them to make one decision. obviously just ...
Price is for the sit and not for the food.
Sushi was not that special but robata was unique...
Very nice interior job and staffs were very friendly but kindda slow...
Good place for a nice dinner out but parking's pricccccyyyyyyyy too!!!
I take clients out for a living. I have been to almsot every good spot in LA. I say that Katana (including both cuisine and decor) is one of the best in Los Angeles. Who would complain about having to wait 30 minutes for a table when the clientele looks as good as they do? Not to mention, the bar is 10 feet away!!! And the food...the food is EXCELLENT! The robabta grill is the best in the c...
i luve this place. if u like robata grill, u gotta try this place. this place is better than koi n sushi roku. excellent food. nice decor. beautiful crowd. dress up when u go here as u r going to a club. i got intimidated when i was parking my car there. everyone had porche, bmws., mercedes, etc. i wil def go back. i luve the food here.
Sunday night (before Memorial Day), reservation for 9:30pm. Hostess said on the phone that they were only open until 11pm. They were actually open until 12:30am for the holiday. Had to fight a huge crowd to get to the hostess desk. Waited forever to check in. Waited another half hour with hostess saying our "table was being set". Watched the hostesses pull anything out of their arses to appeas...
I have been to Katana's many times. I always go for the robata grill. It is wonderful. The wait can get long late night on the weekends. They don't take reservations for the robata grill, it's first come first serve. If you are going for the robata grill, you must get the mushroom stuffed with chicken. For sushi, I had the special that day, it was the santa barbara shrimp, very expensive bu...
Had made reservations but was forced to wait a full hour for our table even though we numbered only two. The food was good, as was the service. Pretty cool place but wouldn't recommend for a night of sophistication as a bit too hectic to be taken seriously as a restaurant. Special mention to the guy in the cheap suit who lets you in to the carpark. His sense of humor was misplaced and he should ...
The food is above average and the atmosphere stellar. Take a date to this restaurant and you are certain to impress. Don't forget to call ahead for reservations as it books up quickly.
I cannot say enough great things about this place. Best Japanese I have ever had! I have been to Tokyo too, and I think it beats any restaurant I ate at there! The food is exceptional, and it is by far my favorite restaurant in LA, and belive me we eat out A LOT!...Ambience is great, service great! Make a booking tho, or you might have to sit at the sushi bar too, which is fun also!
My girlfriends and I went to Katana on Saturday 3/11/2006 and had a great time. The ambiance is very intimate, upscale and trendy without being pretentious. Our server was very nice and accommodating and the food was excellent. We sat outside and overlooked Sunset Blvd which was very entertaining. They have tall heaters running on cold evenings so you don't notice any adverse weather conditions w...
It's hollywood at its best/worst. Don't take the scene too seriously and you can actually have a great meal.
Delicious lobster rolls, sweet melt-in-your-mouth unagi and fun, creative fusion drinks make Katana the perfect spot for kicking off a night on Sunset. The vibe is trendy, but not stuffy. Every time weve been there, service has been exceptional. On warm nights, you can relax on the patio and watch the show of people trying to work their way into the side door at Sky Bar across the street. Always...
I am very easy to please but Katana's food is just plain bad. The sushi overall is very poort. Most strip mall places in L.A. have better fish and rolls. We had a lobster roll that tasted as if it was covered in Velveeta cheese and with way too much mayo. At 7 p.m. on a Friday night the kitchen was out of a certain tomato salad (how can you be out of tomatoes?). The service was a nightmare. I'...
I'm afraid my first time at Katana left much to be desired. Although the ambiance was fabulous, the food left a a bitter taste, actually burnt, to be exact, in my mouth. How does one mess up a California roll?? At least the desserts were tasty. Go for the drinks and the trendy bar scene, but make sure you eat dinner before you leave the house. Oh, and carpool, because parking ended up costing ...
It's definitely an excellent place for entertaining overseas visitors. Both food and service are of high quality.
This place has nice trendy decor & good services. Food are great, but dessert is superb, I'd say try their chocolate volcano cake, it'll left you craving for more ;)
The food was good, but not great. I tried several of the various robatas, which were good. The sushi was at best average given the price, and the service was kind of slow. On the whole, Katana is not the place to go for fine dining. However, I definitely reccomend it as a hip spot for a date, or a place to start a night out on the Sunset Strip. The decor was striking inside, and the patio dining ...
This place is fun, has great food and although it's scene-ish, it's a great spot to get together with friends..Robata is something you can't find in many other places and it's really good. Definitely try the chicken robata
Went there last night & the friendly waiter suggested one of their specials to start the meal: shrimp wrapped in bacon. They should add this "special" to their menu. It was by far the best part of the meal! The sushi that followed didn't even come close to comparing with the shrimp appetizer. Ask to be seated outside because it was so smoky from the grill inside the restaurant that my clothes...
This is not the place to go for sushi. Though, they serve it, they really specialize in grilled meats and fish. The cod is superb, best I've ever had. The drinks are good. It is a great place to people watch and for a celebrity owned restaurant, I think it's the best in town. For upper class tapas, the prices are very reasonable. Whether you are with friends or on a friendly date, Katana is...
I used to adore Katana, and admittedly it's still hard to beat the setting. But the last two visits suggest that the food is just something the kitchen churns out to kill time until the bar scene gets cooking. For a place this expensive to turn out so-so sushi is a crime. Still a great place to take an out-of-towner for drinks
I was pleasantly surprised with my experience. Located in the heart of Sunset Blvd, Katana is the perfect place if you want the feeling of cruising the boulevard. There is plenty of noise, pretty people, and people watching to be had. This isn't a place I'd go to impress a date or for a quiet evening, it's more of a place to go with pals to people watch and have a fun time. It's stereotypical...
Nice ambience and interior. Both the sushi and the skewered grill items are yummy. If you can, reserve a table outdoors... it's nice for a romantic dinner or a party with friends. Reccomendations: Sushi: shrimp tempura roll, tuna carpachio appetizer, chicken karage. Skewers: chicken meatball, salmon, shrimp
A gorgeously decorated restaurant with beautiful people enjoying delicious food and drinks, what more could you ask for. If you do not like noisy bars/rest. then do not attempt to go there on the weekend. However any of the sushi is great, the mushroom caps stuffed with chicken are heaven. Get advice on some sake and you're all set. Try to sit outside with a view over Sunset and spend the nig...
Recently dined at Katana upon recommendation from The Standard Hotel where we were staying and had an awesome dinner. We were seated immediately without reservations on a Sunday night. It did get quite busy about an hour after our arrival so reservations would be helpful. Our waitress was extremely attentive in an unobtrusive way and very pleasant. She recommended the foie gras filet mignon ...
Situated in the thick of Sunset's chaos, Katana attracts a very "Hollywood" crowd. Interesting decor and very loud. We had reservations for a Wed. night and still waited. The service is iffy because it's so busy.
Avoid the sushi and peer over the robata menu. I had the quail eggs, chilean sea bass, shrimp in tarragon miso, and filet mignon w/foie gras, and all were excellent. The portions are...
A feast for the eyes more than for your stomach. The decor is a lot of fun (be sure to visit the restrooms), but while the menu reads creative, the food is just so-so.
We made a reservation for 9PM, then waited an HOUR to be seated. By 10PM we were starving so we particularly appreciated the speedy & friendly service. Customers ranged from early 20's beautiful people to hip mid-40's on a date...
I'm all grown up now, but I miss my stupid nights on Sunset so I told my wife that I wanted a night on the town. We chose Katana for its 'rep'. We ordered their version of the tasting menu and the first thing arrived were the Popcorn shrimp flown in direct from Applebee's. The skewers were glazed in a secret teriyaki sauce stolen directly from Teriyaki Bowl in Pacoima. The service was horrendous,...
The robata and some sashimi items are pretty good. However, the sushi needs a little more kick and the desserts are overall creative. Service is prompt and you have to try their drinks~~
Really good food. I love the variety on the menu and the ability to order in small quantities -- this really allows to you to taste the wide variety of samplings. I found the service to be really warm and friendly. Great atmosphere, fun people, fantastic food!
Definitely one of the best restaurant ambience in town, good for impressive a date or client, but can be very crowd and loud (even on a Wed). Food is just above average at best. I have had plenty of better Sashimi and sushi elsewhere for much less, Zagat rating of 21 ($49) vs. Fat Fish of 28 ($27).
Worst of all is the valet parking (not part of Katana). They stamped us with an earlier arriv...
This restaurant was a great way to visit a trendy LA environment. The robata and sushi were great and the waiters recommendations were useful. Ask the waiter to explain the menu. It can be overwhelming. Beware smoking is allowed on the enclosed patio so eat inside if you want to avoid it.
The food was only average-- but the scene was pretty hip. A good place to have dinner if you want to hang out on the Sunset Strip-- good for guests from out of town who want to do the LA thing and see B-List celebrities.
Dining at Katana last Wednesday was an incredible experience. With a reservation for the patio, I found myself surrounded by three different A-list celebs as well as 11 of my closest friends. They can truly accomodate large parties and their food is perfect for that set up as well. You have to try the Robata skewers with the sauces and don't miss the crab legs. Service was solid especially si...
Wow, I was greeted by the host and hostess on a packed Friday night and was treated so nice! They treated me like a "somebody". Completely wonderful and unheard of in Los Angeles. That spirit was carried over in the service and the food. Amazing food! A great place to people watch etc.
But the Staff...are the Stars! I have never written a review for anything but I just had to for Katana!
Than...
This place has nice ambience but the food is mediocre. The sushi and the rolls were not that great and the scewers were not the best sukiyaki I've had, although they were OK they came out all at once and were cold before you got to half of them. The waitress was noce and attentive and the hostess was OK she did however force us to give our table before we were ready to. The worse part of this p...
Katana is a really hot spot right now, which probably is the reason for such slow service. Went on a Friday night and it was jampacked. Valet full, so had to pay the $15 parking in the lot beside the bldg. Even with a reservation, the hostess gave my friend a hard time as some in the party were late (she refused to let them have the table until all of us arrived). Good food, but make sure to chec...
The hostess was an absolute snob. She had no manners and was very rude. She's best at shooing customers away, as I witnessed a few people just walking out because she had a bad attitude. There's a LONG wait even with reservations (I went on a weekday). Not worth your while...SERIOUSLY.
if you want a restaurant with the whole nine yards this is the place to go.. it's a place where people come to hang out, eat great food and enjoy the hip atmosphere. i sat at the bar and the food was great ... for first timers, if you don't know what to get, just ask the waiters/cookers to make you their own specials .. overall it was a great experience and i would definitely recommend this rest...
if you want to treat urself to a restaurant where the atmosphere is hip and intimate, check it out. the food isnt quite filling but the desserts and drinks are orgasmic. the food comes out in small portions so you have time to conversate. nice place for a date or gathering of a few friends. try the kome kome and plum wine for drinks, green tea fried tempura is a must for dessert! pricing is ...
Definitely fet a table out on the patio. The heat lamps will keep you comfortable and it's a blast to watch the Sky Bar crowd across the street coming and going in their limos and haute coutre get-ups. The sushi is nothing to shout about, but the desserts are pretty tasty. i recommend this place as a post dinner (eaten elsewhere) dessert place.
The sushi and other food items were fresh, well-presented, and delicious. The service, however, was remarkably not attentive. I've been to Katana twice; I guess you have to be a celebrity to receive good service. If you don't like your dinner companions the noise won't bother you, but if you want to have a conversation without yelling, good luck.
The food is astounding; sushi is the same as long as you go omakase. But to be blunt: Don't bother showing up if you've got no style. This place is a haven for the jet set crowd or folks with star power. Its 'modus operandi' is identical to a Sunset club: Guys - I hope you have a date or plan to sit at the bar/terrace. Gals - you'll be seated shortly. In general. dress to impress, and you'...
Went to this restaurant for a company dinner with no expectations..Then went back a week later because it was a great experience overall i.e., food, services, drinks, and crowd.
One of the best places I have been to in a long time. Good to go for a date. Great food and location
This is the most beautiful and unique place to grace sunset strip in years. The robatayaki is phenomenal--although a little addictive. The servers are friendly, helpful and quick. And the atmosphere is unparalleled anywhere in Los Angeles. I love the patio seating. It offers great views of the strip, non-stop people watching, high energy, and amazing food. The people at Katana really seem t...
At first I didn't want to go to another Sunset Strip restaurantl. However, once I discovered it was the same owner as Sushi Roku (my favorite restaurant in town), I decided to check it out. To my surprise, not only was the sushi as good as Roku's, but the ROBATAYAKI grilled items were perfect. It was a great way to share and try lots of various items. The place is probably double the size of ...
Beautiful space, nice music, nice table, great menu! But... then poor service, too many servers, cold food, okay food, incredibly high price for two people.
There are a million other places in LA where you can great food, great service AND a cool vibe for a fraction of the cost.
Not worth it.
With its exotic decor and boisterous crowd, this is a wonderful place to celebrate any occassion. The diversity of the menu means there's something for every palate and, between the sushi and the robata, the opportunity to taste a variety of foods. The skewers of steak stuffed with asparagus and fois gras were devine.
Nice patio above Sunset strip. Ive found this to have an older crowd at times. No posers and no attitude - thank God. Wonderful food and pricey. Great drinks and sake.
If youre going for a night out to watch beautiful people at a trendy sleek new restaurant, then this is definitely the place. The food is not bad, just not great.
You wanna go to the place with the most beautiful people? Then this is the place. Great place to go with friends and great Food. I love this place!!!
If your looking for a place to be seen, this is the one. We were greeted by a rude hostess then dined on the smallest portions I've sever seen. The prices were high, but the atmospher great. TOTAL HOLLYWOOD HOT-SPOT AT THE MOMENT.....
Visiting from NYC, we stayed at the Mondrian. We walked across the street to Katana and had our best night in LA. We actually went back two nights later. This place not only has incredible food, but the staff, from the hostess to our busboy, were all helpful and sweet. On our six nights in town, we went to all of the recommendations of our concierge and Katana was THe Greatest. We actually...
This has got to be the worst restaurant with the most undeserved hype. The food is over glazed with teriyaki sauce. The crowd is full of posers and wannabes. The service was slow and full of attitude. Way over priced for what you get. Definitely an over-hyped restaurant that will not survive on the quality of the food alone.
Service was great, loved the food and the bartender makes a great drink! Gotta sit on the patio and watch Sunset below ... really chill night.
A wonderful restaurant. Great ambiance, and the ingredients are fresh. Great service awaits the early bird, as you get the attention of all the staff. For the late diners, a crowd of fashionably beautiful people along with great food is yours to take! A great restaurant, often hard to find on Sunset.
Food is awesome- the wait for a table with a reservation makes me never want to return. Out of the 4 times I have been there, two times I have had a reservation and have been made to wait over an hour. They need to get that aspect of their service corrected
Good food, great ambience, hip crowd, relaxing view on the patio. Definitely one of my favorite restaurants. The servers are always helpful. The food is always good, especially the robata halibut and dynamite sushi. Definitely make reservations otherwise the wait will be a while.
Sakura House has better Maki, however the ambience is good, and it makes a fun night.
So good......the skewers are the way to go! The food is even better than the scene is, and that is rare on Sunset!
My husband and I live in the Hollywood Hills and are amazed that it took this long for fine dining to come to Sunset Strip. We are regulars at Sushi Roku but Katana is so close. The new "skewer" cuisine is very inventive. We've tried everything from the lobster to the steak skewers and loved the dipping sauces. The sashimi was excellent and the braised pork from the kitchen is the best we've ...
Average food, ridiculously bad service, and horrific attitude from management. It took 30 minutes from when we were seated on the patio to see a menu, another 30 minutes for the so-called server to come back and take our order, and - by the time the food arrived (after we complained 3 times) 45 minutes later - we were disappointed. Plus, it took so long that it cost us $20 each to get our cars ou...
This place is an absolute joke. The reservationist's are exstremely rude and the restaurant service is terrible. For the prices you pay the restaurant is a complete dissapointment. Two words: OVER RATED
Katana certainly is a glamorous dinner destination. Beautiful people, trendy clothes and plenty of stiletto heels. The outside patio is delightful for both eating and cocktail-ing, mainly because you get the benefit of checking people out as they're coming and going. The food is just OK. Sure, the kabobs are pretty cool and pretty good, but nothing better than you could accomplish on your own. Ch...
Well ,The Valet was 14 dollars and the edame was too salty and overcooked. My Sashimi salad was "not as fresh" as should be but it was only $8.00. The Sushi I ordered was below average, Overall the atmoshphere and vibe made up for the so so meal. I will go back and give it another try if they could get better waiters who know how to make better suggestions to first timers. Menu was confusing and ...
This place is beautiful inside and out, it is a cool spot with lots of trendy people, and a place that even stars show up at. If you just want to hang out in a dimly lit, stylish, Japanese restaurant and then Katana is the place to. The food is good but not worth money, it is very pricey yet very average. The staff is friendly, they get very busy but the service is satisfactoy. I would suggest goi...
The owners of Sushi Roku and Balboa have pulled out all the stops for this stylish new eatery. Sit at the robata bar and watch your food as it gets grilled. A great new food experience.
