I'm a huge fan of Frank and Angies, having eaten there for three years because I work downtown. I went to Huts for lunch as a change in pace and I knew they were owned by the same people. I had the Alan Freed burger and these guys know how to do it right! Their homemade hickory sauce it wonderful. I would suggest making this stop for lunch :)
This is defiantly one of my all-time favorite places to take people that have never been to Austin before! The Staff know whats going on and always are on top of things, the burgers are awesome and there are endless combos of burgers to make!
Went to Hut's with co-workers. I like my burgers simple: no sauces, with lettuce, tomato, onion, and pickle. This means I'm at odds with most people in Austin (but not Ft. Worth). I ordered a double burger and a side of fries and rings. The burger was good (but not great). The fries were burnt, as most places in Austin haven't figured out how to cook fresh cut fries without burning them. On...
I have always ordered a hamburger, but yesterday felt like a chicken fried steak. They brought out the plate and it looked like a child's plate. I thought I might have accidentally ordered the child's portion as the chicken fried steak was about the same size and shape as a hamburger patty, just chicken fried. I couldn't believe it since this is Austin Texas and so many restaurants have very ...
Hut's serves great hamburgers, and great onion rings. A typically Austin establishment in every way, both good bad, Hut's is on 6th Street, which is one of the busier streets in downtown Austin, and has very, very little in the way of a parking lot. I always have to park on the street nearby, which often entails circling the surrounding blocks a few times. Once you get to the door, a wait almo...
We ordered the All American (regular burger; no gimmick sauces or anything). The burger was just average; only a little better than a Sonic burger, but 3x as pricey.
The meat was grassfed beef, but did not have much flavor. Small machine pressed patty. The bun was nothing special, and the toppings were old. Our salad was wilted, and the water was bad. Only Pro was good service and choice of be...
Very good food, but staff is underpar .
I love this place, the burgers are the best, also fun and great amosphere. I highly recomend.
This place offers the best hamburgers i've ever tasted,
best burger in America.
Great food!
Buy one get one burgers on Wednesday! Yummy!!!
Huts is over acclaimed. The food is palatable but nothing special. I certainly wouldn't wait for a table; there are much better burgers to be had in Austin. I believe the rumours that Huts once earned its stellar reputation, but I suspect this place has been riding on its laurels for some time. The wait staff and management don't seem concerned about repeat business, and sadly, they have so man...
The burgers are good, but not great. Over all a fun spot that you can see why it is an institution in a college town. Location! They should be open until 3am everynight, bet they'd do great business.
Great atmosphere and in general place but don't expect the best burger ever (mind you it isn't bad).
Don't listen to anyone who gave this place a bad review. They are terrorists... they hurt innocent women and children. Do you hate terrorists? Then eat at Hut's!
A lot of burger joints overlook the quality of the patties. Most of them are too thin and lacking in flavor, concentrating too much on what goes on top of it. The first thing we noticed at Hut's was that the patties tasted like real meat with substance and flavor. The patties were also thick and juicy and cooked as ordered. Hut's has a wide variety of burgers, but also giving you the option to bu...
Me and my boyfriend visited Austin from Houston this weekend and this place was recommended as a great lunch spot. We only had to wait about 5 min for a seat, which i thought was going to be longer since it was so crowded. Our waitress was nice and the hamburger was out of this world. Now im wishing we had that place in Houston. We will for sure go back the next time we are in Austin.
I love this place to death. They have the best burgers and milk shakes in town. Amazingly affordable, and I always leave there full. One time, our waiter even got our desert on him (me, my brother, and my aunt). The place is a little cluttered, but beacuse of that there is always something new to look at while you're waiting for your food.
Basically just great!
the food is bad. i will nere eat here, do not like. the seather can not read or write, is racestBe conversational: Write it as if relaying your experience to a good friend.
Be specific: Generalities like "lazy service" or "tasty pizza" leave people wanting more detail.
Be yourself: If you're an expert on burgers, let us know. If this is your first-time massage, say so.

The Monday night special on veggie burgers makes this restaurant a weekly ritual. The Theta Special or the Chubby Chuck both top Hut's unique veggie patty with delicious hickory sauce, sandwiched between soft hamburger buns - yummy but messy. The service is fast, the waitstaff are nice, the atmosphere is "Austiny", and the drinks are huge so you never have to wait on a refill.
On the downs...
Hut's Hamburgers is the BEST!!! I love going there. I think they have one of the best burgers in town!! Even when there isn't a ton of waiters, they all try to make your experience good. I also love that they have flavors for the sodas like an old-fashioned hamburger joint. They have been there for ever and have tried to keep things as original as possible...very cool! A++++++++++
This is a really fun place to go. The decor is nice, wait staff friendly. It's definitely an Austin type of place.
The menu is impressive and you definitely can get a burger made in ways I'd never think of on my own.
Parking isn't as bad as you might think given the downtown location.
Hut's Hamburgers is a must-do for out-of-towners! Great food in a particularly, Austin atmosphere. The intimate venue lends itself to wonderful moments with friends, family, coworkers or anyone just looking for a good meal! Highly recommend Huts!
Why does this place keep making the top. It sure isn't as good as it used to be. If I wanted a hamburger this is not the place in Austin for it.
As a vegetarian married to a carnivore it can be hard for us to find a restaurant we both love, but Hut's is just that. Their on site made veggie burger hits the spot every time, I always plan on trying a burger off the menu but the first one I tried was so good its hard to stray from it. The huge burger and heaping portion of fries is very filling, so share if you want room for dessert. I did br...
As a vegetarian it is sometimes hard to find food out, but Hut's comes through in spades. Upon entry into the restaurant you are greeted with an eclectic Austin atmosphere. The waitstaff is very friendly, and quite attentive, and the food is even better. There are many choices for the vegetarian, and meat-eater alike. Their menu lists 20 hamburgers (any of which can be made with a veggie patty on...
This is a great place if you want a monster buger! It's a small place with lots of austin character with amazingly fun service. There food is great and they have several options for a vegetarian fare. Huge burgers, great shakes. I wouldn't waste too much time on the onion rings-they were pretty peppery but everything else was so beyond delicious. We find any excuss to go into town for Hut's....
Love this place! Been here a few times and it never fails to impress. The burgers are big, juicy and filling. Plus you can put pretty much anything on 'em. I got the bleu cheese burger with bacon and loved it. The fries are good too. The prices are more than fair and the portion sizes will have you loosening your belt. Bartenders are friendly and attentive and the selection of draft beer i...
Coming from Lampasas and raised on Storm's Hamburgers, Hut's is the only thing that can get me off in the burger department. I love the Hut's Favorite, which is your classic, everything-on-it burger. The beef is served slightly under well, which is perfect. The fries are a dream, and the shakes aren't bad either. Parking is usually pretty negotiable.
Being health conscious, I took the chicken burger - nice piece of chicken breast, but not very big. I filled up on a tossed green salad that was fresh and good. Sunday night there were no problems parking on the street. Friendly service.
Great location and the diner atmosphere was interesting and funky without being too over the top. I had a Buddy Holly burger and onion rings. The burger was served a little under the advertised medium well, which was a good thing in my book. The right amount of grease and pretty flavorful, nothing special but not bad either. The onion rings were incredibly bland even after adding salt. I ha...
I took the family to Hut's y esterday, and I'm amazed this place is rated the best burger in town. Our food was cold, service was horrific, and the rest of the staff was rude. I left thinking I would have been better off with a quarter pounder from McDonald's. I think the best burgers in Austin can be found at Houston's.
ok. I think we all know there are better burgers in Austin. You only love huts for the novelty, or perhaps your taste buds are not functioning. The reason they offer to put so much junk on your burger is because they are gross and flavorless. My cheese was gross and had quite possibly gone bad. the onion rings are doughy and gross and one out of ten fries was crispy, the rest of the basket left s...
Great hambugers, and the best onion rings! The only complaint is that there is too much food for one person to finish.
Such a good place to go eat a hamburger. They give you 20 options on how to eat a burger and you can still mix it up. Onion rings are the size of your face. Fries are also big, if you are a fry lover. Gotta try this place out!
I love their burgers but they also do a great chicken fried steak and their daily specials are a good value. I like the atmosphere and the staff is always nice.
The best is Dirty Martins, hands down. Huts does a good job tho. The one thing I'd suggest to everyone is to order the burger the way you want it, and not the way the one you choose comes. Most are just to damn messy. DO NOT order the chicken fried steak, trust me on this. It is a burger place, stick with what they do.
Ok, so it's not snazzy, poppy, or jumpy. Some may call it a "Greezy Spoon". People may say Hype this, or Hype that. All I know is theres this wendy's comercial that has these people kicking a tree, then this guy that says he wants a "Hot Juicy Burger". long story short, the opening three words of this discription on CitySearch Are "HOT JUICY BURGER" and thats what they serve. In My Opinion, Delic...
I eat at Hut's about once every other month and there burgers are always delicious. I still have yet to find a burger in Austin that is as consistently juicy as Hut's. They deliver a unique atmosphere, rich in Austin history. It is certainly not a quiet spot, but this is not a problem because you can always expect a busy, noisy experience. Now, I cannot recommend anything other than burgers. They...
I heard these were good, so I tried them. LOL. What a mess. I really dont understand why Austin thinks these grease nuggets are good. I really felt like a burger this day, thought I would have a good one. When this thing came out I almost laughed outloud. I had one bite and threw that thing away. I left shaking my head totally confused by the hype. I ended up driving to Carl's Jr. in San ...
My husband and I ate here a few months ago. We were pretty new to Austin and just came upon Hut's. We eat burgers very often and were excited to try a new place. The burgers here were NOT GOOD. I am usually fair about restaurants and criticizing their food, but I could get a better burger anywhere else. Our burgers were below average, very dry. The shakes are pretty good, but that is hard to mess...
Took the kids here and it was a good choice. Friendly service, nice selection of burgers. Fries were pretty good and the burgers were HUGE. No need for the double if you're an average Joe. Tasty fries but the onion rings were still raw (not fried long enough). The batter wasn't that hot either. All of our burgers were very good though. We will return for sure.
Downside: No kid menus & everythi...
Burgers ok at best. They get a good crowd that must not care about the food.
But for the price you can't have everything and in this case the food suffers.
My wife loves this place, but I still don't get it, even after going multiple times. The burgers aren't really anything special, and despite all of the different "specialty" burgers, most of the condiments are your typical burger additions...pickles, mustard, onions, mushrooms, chili, etc. As much as I love burgers, I've found myself ordering other items from the menu (like catfish), which also...
You've got to try the Alan Freed burger (with a substituted veggie patty of course)!! It's a mess, just covered in bbq sauce. Plus on wed. you get 2 for the price of one. Two burgers for less than $5? Can't beat that with a stick!
Pros: awesome for vegetarians, CHEAP! friendly service
Cons: you may have to wait a while for a table
Hut's should be number one on that poll. Crowded, noisy, big messy burgers. They put anything on a burger and make it taste great! The onion rings are large enough to fit around your arm!
Hut's is great! If you are a person who likes the taste of meat in all it's natural glory, eat here. The burgers are thick, and the toppings are heaped on. They have 20 different combos on the menu and will alter anything to your liking. The $5 dollar shake is perfect for sharing.
I've lived in Austin all my life and eaten at almost every burger place and this is hands down the WORST. It tastes like a cheap, greasy burger from Dairy Queen. There is nothing about this place that is worth the wait.
I am new to the area from Houston, and on a whim, my husband and I decided to try Hut's. The location is cool, and the inside is very diner-like. I can see why it is so popular, but we were not impressed with the burgers. The fries were cold and soggy too. I have had many better burgers at many other places before. We were hungry, and it was a cool place to go and get a quick bite to eat, but I w...
Ye- haw!!!!! Austin Texas has a legend in the heart of its metropolis - Hut's Hamburgers! I tell you what! This little place is hoppin' like a grasshopper in a field full of hefers! They have a mouth waterin' buffalo burger that will temp the bellies of any ol' hungry mouth! And with a side a fries that'll fill a waterin' trough! If you haven't tried Hut's you are missing out!
I don't understand the raves. True, the burgers are very good. They come hot and juicy. But anyone that says that these burgers are any better than Fuddruckers is dreaming. Take a Fuddruckers restaurant, take away 70% of the floorspace, cram people in by the elbow, put a U.T. cap on everyone, and you've got a Hut's. Also, the hot fudge used on their ice cream is kind of weird. It comes luke...
Hut's has a burger for everyone. The restaurant is in a great location and is a good spot to go for lunch. You can't beat the prices for the size portions you receive.
Is Hut's the only hamburger joint in Austin? No. But it might as well be. Fantastic burgers, great sides, all reasonably prices. Very consistent here.
PROS: flavor
CONS: none
The menu here isn't extensive, but the wide variety of burgers are among the best you'll ever taste, and are also availble with chicken, vegetarian patties, and even buffalo meat. The waitstaff has always been friendly when I've visited.
PROS: Best burgers around, reasonable prices.
CONS: No free refills on soft drinks.
Hut's is so great!! The burgers are so good and filling! The onion rings are enormous! Fantastic is all I have to say!
Hut's has the best burger in Austin. The atmosphere has a fun 50's/austin funky feel. Incredible! Try the onion rings, cherry coke, and milkshake!
A must visit on any trip to Austin. Get a buffalo burger if they are not sold out. A longhorn beef burger is a good second choice. Rootbeer floats are yummy and the perfect accompaniment to your burger. Onion rings are exceptional (and HUGE), fries surprisingly are merely average.
If your waistline can allow it, try one of Hut's ultra creamy made from real ice cream milkshakes. As good ...
Tried to have a Hut's burger for the first time, but the plan was foiled by bad service. The wait time was excellent, only a 2 minute wait. After noticing that parties after us were getting served first, we knew something was wrong. It got worse after our waiter asked us to refresh his memory. He went to check on the order and didn't inform us of the status. After a few minutes we decided to leav...
Super good onion rings. Tasty longhorn burger (they have buffalo too). Wife thought the vegi burger was so-so. Fries are not all that. Quaint little hole in the wall kinda place with very nice service.
Dined in at Hut's a month ago and see no reason for the food to be rated this well. The meat in the burgers was bland. The service was terrible. Would not recommend this place to anyone, unless it was someone I didn't like.
. . . especially if you think you are what you eat! Hut's is one of the few places in Austin that uses free-range, drug- and dope-free beef. Yee haw! And believe me you can taste the difference. And for vegetarians, Hut's wins two thumbs-up for creating their own, falafel-esque burger (and I think it's vegan) that you can have in place of beef hamburgers. Oh, and I'm less than an hour away ...
Absolutely our favorite place to eat in Austin. Buffalo burgers are out of this world! Phenomenal onion rings, and the fries, with some melted cheese...oh, chest pain, but worth it!
Am I the only one who thinks that Hut's is way over rated? Their burgers are dry and tasteless.
I wasn't impressed. I'm from Dallas and was hoping for an awesome burger. I got the double, one pattie was done the second was medium rare. Not how I like to eat hamburger meat. And the whole thing fell apart. Yuck.
The double double (fries and o-rings) were ok. The fries were real potatoes, but, kind of old. The o-rings were extremely large, but not crunchy enough.
I can't believe what some of these reviews say. Are you sure they're not written by Hut's competitors? These burgers are great! The beef they use is terrific. The buffalo burgers are yummy too--I don't know anywhere else that serves them. My health conscious and vegetarian friends love the chicken and veggie burgers. And with all the different varieties--there's always something new to try....
I read all the reviews here and tried out huts. Should say they do have good food but not the best! You can find the same kind of burgers elsewhere too. I would agree that Hut's is a little overrated.
Their blue plate specials are a good value and there is a 2 for 1 special on a burger almost everyday.
Their milkshakes are definitely worth trying!!
i never knew there could be so many choices when ordering a burger... i suggest the richie valens burger... it really hit the spot.
Hut's hamburgers are the bomb. If you are worried about gaining weight, then don't eat hamburgers. Hut's has an awesome mushroom burger and the buffalo burger is killer. If meat is what you want then double up. this place is definetly an Austin establishment. No one would know that it was an old gas station.
Hut's Hamburgers is a overrated Austin location. When you are carnal enough to want to eat a burger then you don't want vegetables or other fruity items included with your meal. The waitstaff? What waitstaff? Service is not on the menu at Hut's by any stoke of imagination. If you mean to eat an item such as a burger stick with a location that doesn't try to make chic out of horrible.
Really good hamburgers, really good shakes. Onion rings, though huge, are a little bland. Get the fries instead.
I went to Hut's anticipating a great hamburger and great service, but was very disappointed. My husband and I are not caucasian and we felt as if our server had never waited on our ethnicity before. Also, he was completely unattentive. The hamburger was mediocre at best, but not worth what it costs. I felt like I wasted my time on all those calories. Hut's is probably the most popular hamburg...
Great burgers!! Lots of greese. No where to park and can be very busy...but the good ones always r.
I have been on a quest to find the best burger in Austin. Since locals know best, I have been to Hut's three times, and I have been greatly dissappointed three times. The burgers are burnt to a crisp, the onion rings(althought beautiful) flavorless and the mushroom gravy room temp., too salty and lacking in any sort of mushroom.
I used to love Hut's, but a recent visit after being out of Austin for a few years was very disappointing. Our burgers were overdone and the usually yummy fries and onion rings were tasteless. Our waitress was terrible. She brought me the wrong burger and then proceded to argue with me that it was correct. I finally had to get the menu to show her that Arnold's Best isn't made with sour cream and...
I thought Red Barn was great. Johnny Fin's had a fantastic burger too. Then I got a taste of a Hut's burger and was shown what a true burger is. If you got Wednesday you get 2 burgers for the price of one. And the burgers are thick and juicy. They also have the best french fries in town. Recommended. Service and atmosphere were excellent. Parking can be hard to come by but is is 6th St. so what d...
Anyone who thinks a burger is a burger has not eaten at Hut's. Not only are these burgers big and juicy, but they're topped with options from the standard cheese/lettuce/tomato to guacamole, pineapple and ham. My favorite is the Dagburger, which is nothing more exotic than 2 giant patties with the standard fixins, but man, is that a burger!
The entire menu is indescribably delicious and has been for more years than I can remember.
their hamburgers rock, and their fries are great, but not the BEST, but a close second.
JUST RETURNED FROM AUSTIN. HUTS IS A TRADITIONAL LAND MARK. GREAT BURGERS & UNBELIEVABLE ONION RINGS. THE FATS DOMINO BURGER IS EXCELLENT. THE CROWDS CANT BE WRONG.
Food was way too greasy, salad had brown cut edges, did not get my order correct the two times I visited. Place could use some serious cleaning, not very appetizing.
the burger was alright...but i have to say that it isn't as good as burger tex off airport blvd...and for some reason....you leave as if you didn't get your money's worth. just my .02.
Huts has a great 2 for 1 special & they offer many different options on the classic burger. All this in a burger joint w/ enough stuff on the walls to jumpstart any conversation.
Th number 12 Theta burger with hickory sauce and grated cheese is the absolute BEST!!!! It is purely dreamy. Hut's definitely has the best burgers I have ever tasted and a fun atmosphere to boot!!!
Whenever someone asks me where do i want to go for burgers, one place comes to mind, Huts! It's friendly and the best food aroung. There shakes and floats are faboulous. They have great onion rings, and of course amazing burgers. With its inviting attitude, busy crowds, and college-ish decor its always a great casual place to dine.
Its the only place I know in the area to get a good, juicy hamburger! Avoid on Fridays - too packed! Get the turkey sandwich - very good.
Good hamburgers served many different ways and huge baskets of onion rings are the best picks at Huts.
The last 3 times I've been to Huts has been a major disappointment. The burgers have been overdone and over salted, and the onion rings and fries have been so salty they couldn't be eaten either.
I can normally only eat half a burger, but when I frequent Huts, I drink a chocolate malt, have cheesy french fries and eat an entire hamburger! They are absolutely the best I've ever had!
Great burgers, fries and onion rings. 2 for 1 can't be beat.
Order any burger on the menu and I guarantee you that you will be satisfied. The only reason I gave it a rating of 8 in food is because their french fries and onion rings are nasty. The decor is very corny and random and the service is slow but the burgers are worth it all!
Tastiest, largest, best buger in town, hands down. Took family and friends from out of town and they loved it!
This place always hits the spot. Milkshakes and burgers....mmmm Try the Dagwood for a different treat. Don't have to dress up, either!
Food is great, service is always friendly and fast, the beer is cold. What else can you ask for?
I expected great... I got Whataburger. Bun was oldish and fell apart. French Fries and onion rings, and shakes are good. The vegetarian burger option is terrible! The person with us who ordered it couldn't eat it because it was so bad. (they did take it off the bill) The service is pretty good.
One of the best burgers I've had and was well worth the wait. There was a wait to be seated when I arrived and not very many places available to stand/sit and wait
The veggie burgers are great. You can change any of the burger variations to a veggie burger.
The are a lot of good burgers to be had all over Austin but Hut's gathers a wonderful variety in one downtown location. You can enjoy classic beef and cheese or toppings such as BBQ or guacamole. There's even a veggie version for non-meat-eaters. Add to the the greeat fountian drinks (vanilla Coke - MMmmm!!!), and you've got a winner!
I moved to Austin almost 3 years ago and have found Austin to be lacking in good burger joints. Huts is one notable exception. They have good selection, good food, and a great atmosphere. I've tried a number of their burgers and they have consistently been good. Unlike most burgers in Austin, the burgers aren't overly greasy and the buns aren't covered with oil/grease. The fresh-cut fries a...
I took my girlfriend (JLR) to Hut's for a quick hamburger. She and I were very impressed with the selection and atmosphere of the place. The onion rings are to die for...
Get the Keller's Burger! It is awesome and a classic from another classic burger joint in Dallas, TX. The trick is the Thousand Island Dressing.
I've eaten just about every burger on the menu, and they're all winners. And I hereby declare the onion rings to be the best in Austin.
